Caitlin Campbell built a seven-figure coffee business in the public eye, navigating viral videos, negative comments, and sudden fame along the way. In this episode, Caitlin shares how she went from youth pastor to coffee entrepreneur, why video 2000 was the one that changed everything, and the mindset shift that helped her turn trolls into traction. We dive into the reality of building a business on social media, why she's deliberately not opening a brick-and-mortar shop yet, and what it's like when strangers hug you in coffee shops. If you've ever thought about turning your passion into a business or wondered how to stay consistent when the middle feels like a slog, this conversation is packed with practical wisdom. December 2025: Madeline Martin's The Secret Book Society

For The Love With Jen Hatmaker Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 16, 2026 44:25

Description:Today, we're stepping into the candlelit, corseted world of Victorian England with New York Times bestselling author Madeline Martin—a master of emotionally rich, meticulously researched historical fiction. Madeline's novels (The Last Bookshop in London, The Librarian Spy, The Keeper of Hidden Books) have introduced millions of readers to hidden corners of history where ordinary people wield books as lifelines, rebellion, and hope. Her latest work and our December JHBC pick, The Secret Book Society, is no exception. Set in an era when women were warned that reading could “inflame the imagination,” The Secret Book Society follows Lady Duxbury—a thrice-widowed countess trailed by scandalous whispers—who covertly gathers a small circle of women for tea…and contraband literature. What begins as shared curiosity blooms into a daring underground society where women read the stories they've been forbidden, claim a power they've been denied, and build the kind of sisterhood that can spark a quiet revolution. In this conversation, we pull back the velvet curtain on: how real Victorian restrictions inspired her fictional rebellion the archival rabbit holes that uncovered surprising truths about women, reading, and resistance the power of “found family” in times of surveillance, judgment, and constraint why stories become sanctuaries when the world demands silence Thought-provoking Quotes: “Reading can really provide such lightness in dark times.” – Madeline Martin “Every book that I've written, I have been to the location where it is set. And I've been able to get that really wonderful firsthand experience of being there. I feel like it takes this black and white world and colors it in this really vivid, wonderful way that lets me accurately convey it onto the book for hopefully what makes for a very evocative read for the reader.” –  Madeline Martin “If you read a book and it's so good you can't put it down, you read it over the course of a weekend, and you can viscerally recall every part of that story, from what the character drank and ate, to what they wore, to that snarky little one-liner that they gave the antagonist. But if you took six months to read that book, you might have a different experience. So for me, when I get to write that book in one month, it's like I'm living in their skin, and I'm living in their heads.” – Madeline Martin Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - https://amzn.to/4iv5e3C The Last Bookshop in London: A Novel of World War II by Madeline Martin - https://amzn.to/4pKU0uq For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards by Jen Hatmaker – https://amzn.to/48AqikP A Time of Witches: A Novel by Madeline Martin – https://amzn.to/3MBpnJl The Forgotten Pages by Madeline Martin – coming 2027 Goodreads 2025 Reading Challenge – https://www.goodreads.com/readingchallenges?ref=rc_summerreading_25 The Hope Keeper: A Novel by Heather Webb –https://amzn.to/48uJkc2 The Lotus Shoes: A Novel by Jane Yang – https://amzn.to/447ANuy Guest's Links: Website - https://madelinemartin.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/madelinemmartin/ Twitter - https://x.com/MadelineMMartin Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/MadelineMartinAuthor Pinterest - https://www.instagram.com/madelinemmartin/ Substack - https://authormadelinemartin.substack.com/subscribe Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy. Did we really need another Jurassic Park sequel in 2025?That's the question I walked into Jurassic World: Rebirth asking… and honestly? I got exactly the movie I expected. This isn't a film that's trying to shock you, move you, or redefine blockbuster cinema. It's here to put massive dinosaurs on the screen, create some loud, chaotic set pieces, and give you a couple hours of popcorn entertainment — and for better or worse, that's what it delivers. In this spoiler-lite review, I talk about:• Whether franchise fatigue has finally caught up with Jurassic World• Scarlett Johansson's role and whether she adds anything new• Why I missed Chris Pratt• The visuals, the spectacle, and the very familiar storytelling• Who this movie is actually for — and who should probably skip itIf you're looking for the next great cinematic event, this probably isn't it. But if you've enjoyed previous Jurassic movies and just want another somewhat silly adventure with enormous dinosaurs causing chaos? This might be a perfectly fine way to spend an evening.Let me know in the comments:

How can we create lifechanging habits? Prayer warrior, entrepreneur, and ambassador of encouragement Bobbi Cox shares how we can create life-changing habits—at any age. Bobbi Cox reveals the story behind her Branch to Hope app, a daily discipleship tool built around scripture, prayer, and practical prompts like color-coded bracelets representing the fruits of the spirit. Together, Tina Yeager and Bobbi Cox discuss why intentionality and mindfulness matter for habit building, how small tweaks can transform both personal lives and relationships, and why it's never too late to make meaningful changes. Tune in to discover simple, faith-filled strategies for cultivating habits that help you flourish in God's perfect design! Cultivating Habits That Last Bobbi shared how her daily "pause and pray" practice, sparked by a moment of divine inspiration from 2 Corinthians 1:11, grew from simple texts to a nationwide movement. She created the Branch to Hope app, which sends out daily reminders to pause, pray, and meditate on scripture—helping people intentionally shift their thoughts and reactions through small, consistent steps. The Color of the Day Challenge A unique feature Bobbi brought to life is the Color of the Day Challenge, rooted in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). By wearing colored bracelets, each representing a Christ-like characteristic (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, etc.), users are prompted throughout their day to embody these qualities. It's a simple, fun, and powerful way to infuse mindfulness and kindness into even the busiest schedules. Transforming Lives Across Generations Stories from listeners—ranging from college students to retirees—show the wide-reaching impact of Bobbi's approach. With easy-to-implement prompts and visual cues, entire families, individuals, and communities are experiencing more kindness, peace, and purposeful living. From Habits to Healing As Bobbi explains, these habits aren't just about emotions—they're actionable steps. By intentionally pausing before we react, focusing on scripture, and choosing to live out Christ's character, we can govern our emotions and steadily transform our lives and relationships. The charming Amish district of Stoney Ridge has new residents.  Listen in as Suzanne Woods Fisher and I chat about this latest book, A Hidden Hope, and the fun she had writing it. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you.  Chats with Suzanne Woods Fisher are always lovely.  We talked about this book and about her love of writing about outsiders and how they find their place in the world. A Hidden Hope by Suzanne Woods Fisher With the arrival of three unexpected newcomers to Stoney Ridge comes an array of secrets and emotions brewing just beneath the surface. Supervising two newly minted medical residents might be the toughest challenge Ruth "Dok" Stoltzfus has ever faced. Wren Baker, sharp and ambitious, graduated at the top of medical school with a hidden agenda in tow. Charlie King, at the bottom of the class, is determined to succeed--though Dok isn't convinced he's got what it takes. Then there's traveling nurse Evie Miller, whose quiet love for Charlie doesn't go unnoticed, especially by Wren. Boarding at Windmill Farm, the trio struggles to balance modern medicine with Plain living. When I read that Julie Klassen's Whispers at Painswick Court was perfect for lovers of Austen and Agatha Christie, I knew this was the book for me, but the story of her visit to Painswick... yeah, sold me. Listen in to see why. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you.  After talking to Julie, I'm now eager to read the book, of course, but I want to go to Painswick, preferably in a Tardis about three years back. Because, come on! Staying there?  EEEP! I'm also fascinated by the nursing book she mentioned, and will probably be checking that out as well.  I think my favorite part of our conversation was comparing just how similar the people in our "very different" worlds, only a couple of hundred years apart, are. Whispers at Painswick Court by Julie Klassen  She expected her return to Painswick would bring memories of the past--not danger and romance. Anne Loveday, a surgeon's daughter, is determined to live a single, useful life. To escape her matchmaking stepmother, she accepts an invitation from an old friend to return to Painswick, the place where she and her sister spent many happy summers until that last, fateful year. Soon after arriving, Anne is asked to serve as sickroom nurse to Lady Celia, who forbade her nephew to marry Anne's sister years before. Pushing aside resentments, Anne moves into Painswick Court, a shadowy old house rumored to be haunted. Also in residence are Lady Celia's spinster daughter, her handsome adult nephews, and a secretive new lady's maid. Two local doctors visit regularly as well, one of whom admires Anne while concealing secrets of his own. As an escalating series of mishaps befalls her patient, Anne realizes someone is trying to kill the woman. But who? 2025 vs 1997: Does the New Slasher Live Up to the Classic?

2025 gave us a new I Know What You Did Last Summer — and yes, this is a true sequel, not a reboot. In this spoiler-lite review, I break down whether this 2025 follow-up to the 1997 slasher classic could recapture the magic that made the original so iconic… or whether this is a sequel that never really needed to exist in the first place. We'll talk about:• How the film compares to the original• The surprisingly strong script and plot twists• Why Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. completely outshine the new cast• The modern slasher elements, kills, and production value• That very weird ending after the ending• And whether this sequel actually weakens the legacy of a horror classicI enjoyed this movie—but enjoyment doesn't always mean justification. If you're a fan of modern slashers, mystery-driven horror, or just wanted to see Hewitt and Prinze back in these roles one more time, this review is for you.

In this off-the-cuff solo episode, I'm talking honestly about my reading taste reset — what 2025 taught me, what I'm leaving behind, and how I'm shaping my reading life heading into 2026.I'm sharing how cozy mysteries pulled me out of burnout, why I stopped forcing genres that don't work for me (hello, fantasy), and how setting gentle boundaries helped me read more — and actually enjoy it again. If you've been stuck in decision paralysis, overwhelmed by recommendations, or quietly falling out of love with reading, this episode is for you.

Some books are fun to read…Others refuse to let you stop talking about them.In today's Fantasy for the Ages episode, Jim and Zach tackle a topic every speculative fiction fan understands instinctively: the SFF best books and series we could discuss for HOURS.These are the stories with unforgettable worlds, endlessly debated characters, and themes that spark conversation long after the final page. They're the books that inspire rereads, theories, arguments, and passionate defenses—the ones that turn casual readers into lifelong fans. Each of us brought five picks to the table, then worked together (and occasionally argued) to create a collaboratively ranked Top 10 list. Along the way, we talk about why certain stories demand repeated discussion, how fandom keeps these worlds alive, and what separates a good reading from a truly unforgettable one.And of course… there was overlap.

Don't know about you, but America's 250th anniversary has me a bit obsessed with finding all the best Christian fiction focused on the War for Independence. Megan Soja's Scars of the Revolution will definitely make my reading list. Listen in to hear why. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you.  It's easy to forget just how torn this country was before it was even it's own country. Neighbors held opposing opinions (kind of like politics today, no?).  But unlike today, falling for the wrong person could be seen as either treason or disloyalty.  Scars of the Revolution by Megan Soja Some scars are born from duty, others from rebellion—theirs were carved by both. Libby Caldwell has been in love with Isaac Harrison for years, ever since her late father befriended him. While her head knows there is no hope of sharing her life with a British soldier, her heart is much more difficult to convince, especially now that he is quartering in her home. With Boston under siege and battle looming, each day together forces her to recognize how deep her feelings truly are…and how forbidden. Bound by duty to both his family and country, Isaac is determined to serve honorably in the King's army, despite never wishing to be a soldier. But quartering with the widow and daughter of his old friend places another obligation on his shoulders—that of their well-being. The more time he spends with Miss Caldwell, the more that duty begins to feel like something personal, something he cannot allow. As the siege of Boston tightens, Libby finds herself drawn into a dangerous game of espionage that could save the Patriot cause—and destroy any chance of a future with the man she's growing to love. Will betrayal and war keep their two worlds forever apart? Or will they look to the One whose love knows no bounds to bring them healing and a future? Step into a piece of corporate horror where the office isn't just soul-crushing—it might be haunted. In this episode, Jim reviews The Indigo Room by Stephen Graham Jones, a short, unsettling work that blurs the line between reality, perception, and the quiet dread of modern work life.As part of a collaborative collection of short horror reads—each written by a different author—The Indigo Room shows Jones working within constraints, delivering a tight, atmospheric story that keeps readers guessing. Is something supernatural happening… or is the horror rooted in burnout, isolation, and the pressures of corporate existence?Jim breaks down:• Why Stephen Graham Jones remains one of the most interesting voices in horror• How this story plays with ambiguity and perception• What works, what doesn't, and who this short read is best suited for• Why this isn't Jim's favorite Jones story—but still very much worth your timeIf you're new to Stephen Graham Jones, this is a fascinating sampler.

THIS EPISODE Ludlov returns to Hübschdorf... ----more---- ABOUT THE STORY The Hounds of Hübschdorf (formerly called 'Grauwald's Game') is an epic fantasy audiobook by Audio Epics that has been released on Halloween, since it has serious dark fantasy and grimdark vibes. This brand new Witch Hunter Tale is the direct prequel to Witch Hunter. If you like a dark adventure story you'll probably enjoy this grim journey in the original fantasy setting of Hruda, inspired by everything we love: RPG settings like the Old World from Warhammer fantasy, eighties fantasy movies and J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth (amongst others).   PLOT SUMMARY When three Witch Hunters fail to return from a routine investigation, Master Ludlov and Initiate Tolfmann find themselves in a small village near the woods. While investigating the strange disappearance of their Brethren, it becomes obvious the mayor is not so keen on their arrival, and the villagers seem to prefer the distraction of the Graunacht festivities to their nosing around. When their inquest reveals a dark mystery involving evil magic and undead, Ludlov faces the true cause of the threat in a place more disturbing than he could have imagined.   WANT TO SUPPORT US? This is it—the final installment of my 50 by 50 series. I've spent four episodes breaking down 50 lessons I learned in my first half-century on this planet (yes, I said half-century). In this episode, I'm covering the final 27 lessons, from "dream big, start small" to why you need at least one Cajun friend. You'll discover why your richest-looking friends might be your poorest, why you should buy an alarm clock and leave your phone in the kitchen, why the opportunity that will change your life often shows up as an annoyance, and why that glass of water on your nightstand at 3 AM is the greatest drink ever invented. Plus, I'll tell you why you should have kids before you're ready, why every industry is smaller than you think, and why you're the cavalry you've been waiting for. Whether you're turning 30, 40, 50, or beyond, these lessons will make you think, laugh, and hopefully grow. You can pre-order my NEWEST book, Procrastination Proof, right now!In This Episode:Grab your very own Soundtracks: The Conversations Card DeckMake sure to follow me on Instagram and share with your friends!Keep up with my book list on GoodReads!Sign up for my newsletter, Try This!Book me to speak at your event or to your team! You can grab a copy of my book All It Takes Is a Goal from your favorite bookstore or at my website!Episode Artwork Photo by Taylor Smith on UnsplashSign up for the Remarkable You Community today!
