Our final Sunday night session examines why it is so important to know what you believe and why by addressing how Christians should engage those around us in a culture that is hostile towards Christians and Christian values. We look at some of the most pressing current events (Roe v Wade, radical LGBTQ agenda, Attacks on personal and religious freedoms, social justice/Critical Race theory) that threaten Christian values and discuss why it is so important for Christians to get involved. We are called to be light in the darkness but many times the way we engage others builds more barriers than bridges and we become known more for what we are against than what we are for. Looking at 1 Peter 3:11-17, we discuss a strategy of "loving engagement" as opposed to the more popular choices of attacking everyone who disagrees with us or retreating into our Christian subcultures and hoping for the best.

Faith comes by hearing. OK, what exactly are we looking for that will build our faith when we hear it. I know the scripture says that we should hear the word of God. My question to you is that just the Bible or is there more of the word of God outside of the Bible also? Whoa, hold everything there, a preacher. Are you telling me God speaks to people outside of the Bible? As a matter of fact, I am. Didn't Paul tell us that even nature speaks to us of God? OK, OK, I get it. I see it now that there are things outside of the Bible that speak to us, and when they do, our faith increases. Take, for instance, a testimony of victory given to you by someone you know. What does that do for your faith? It also increases your ability to believe that God would do it for you. Look at the custom of the early Israelites as they marked the spot a battle was won by stacking a pile of stones there to remind everyone of the victory. So that when they walk by with their children, they would repeat the story of the triumph, therefore, building faith in the heart of the next generation. As I sit down to speak to you today, the spirit of the Lord said, "shake it up, baby." When I heard those words, my faith leaped forward, knowing that he was telling me that he could change our circumstances wholly and suddenly. So rejoice as we enter these days, knowing that God has a plan that will not fail. Good vibrations, Heavens vibrations. It is reported that our body maintains its life and health by vibrations in every part. Each part of our body has a different rate of vibration tuned by our heavenly father so that it would function perfectly. The entirety of who we are, body, soul, and spirit, depends on the consistent vibration that heaven-sent is out. With any member of our body, soul, or spirit getting out of harmony with the vibrations that God is sending, we become depressed or sick in our bodies. The basic meaning for sin is simply out of sync or in step with God. In other words, your spirit man is not grooving with God's vibrations. In the 1960s, they had a hit song called "good vibrations." If you turned up the volume loud enough, your whole body got involved in the sound waves that came out of the song and the music, and when you left, you were feeling its results. The vibrations of heaven originate from the word of God coming from the mouth of our father. When those words are received into our body, soul, and spirit, it retunes us and readjusts us to the will and destiny that God has for us. When you and I repeat the word of God by confessing and rejoicing in it, our whole person is readjusted to his plan. So turn up the volume and let those good vibrations work on you. While we consider the Bible alone to be our source of authority and the foundation of what we believe and why - you cannot ignore the influence that church history plays in shaping our interpretations of those truths. In tonight's study we trace the history of our church, First Baptist Blowing Rock from the reformation in the 16th Century through the Great Awakenings into the spread of the Gospel into Western North Carolina in the late 18th Century and how each of those steps influenced who we are and why we believe what we do.
