We barely survived Week 1 and Mike actually switched his Survivor pick mid-week (never again). Lightning delays, near-upsets, and a Sunday Night miracle later… we're somehow up and sprinting on the Road to $10K. In this episode: Andy Reid shockers, a (maybe) god-tier Herbert, Bills as team of destiny, Dolphins doom, Russ reality, why home favorites matter in Survivor, and the exact bets we've already placed for Week 2 — including a spicy Raiders flyer and a big Bills position. Plus: the contrarian traps to avoid and which teams to “burn early” before the value evaporates. Want our mid-week card? The time has come! NFL Week 1 is here, the offseason is officially in the rearview, and all the digital ink and takes that were blasted into the sports media landscape over the last half year or so are about to become null and void. Jake and Spenny are here to put that to the test for themselves, as fresh off of their full NFL season predictions podcast on the Jumbo Set, the guys are here to preview the Ravens Week 1 contest at the Buffalo Bills. Baltimore enters Week 1 with revenge on their minds, and redemption in their hearts as they'd not only like to get back at the Bills for ousting them from the playoffs, but to prove to themselves that they can play mistake free football. Of course, none of those questions can be truly answered until playoff time, anyway. So in the meantime, let's rejoice in the return of football, and preview this big Sunday Night opening game, shall we? Thanks as always for listening, and we'll be back at you very soon! This week on Ron's Amazing Stories, we're celebrating Labor Day with a special double feature. Our first tale comes from the series Escape and is titled Conquerer's Isle. Three Navy flyers, lost in the South China Sea, discover a secret underground civilization that sees them as little more than pets. It's a strange mix of survival, science fiction, and a chilling vision of humanity's “next stage.” Then, we turn from fantasy to history with Cavalcade of America's Railroad Builders, which first aired on April 15th, 1936. It honors the men who laid steel tracks across mountains, plains, and rivers—building a pathway that connected a nation. Two very different stories—one imagined, one real—but both remind us of the courage, toil, and spirit of labor. So, fire up the grill, grab a cool drink, and settle in for this Labor Day adventure. This time on Ron's Amazing Stories, we're diving into one of Alfred Hitchcock's most celebrated thrillers—Shadow of a Doubt. Originally released as a film in 1943 and starring Joseph Cotten and Teresa Wright, the story gets a radio makeover in the Screen Director's Playhouse adaptation from November 1950. This time, none other than Cary Grant steps into the role of Uncle Charlie, bringing his trademark charm with an unsettling twist. What makes Shadow of a Doubt stand out in Hitchcock's catalog is its unique suspense style. We, the audience, know from the beginning that Uncle Charlie has a dark secret. The real tension comes from watching his niece slowly uncover the horrifying truth about the man she once adored. It's a masterclass in slow-burn suspense, set against the deceptively cozy backdrop of small-town America. On the podcast today, you'll hear: Background on Alfred Hitchcock's 1943 masterpiece. Cary Grant's turn as Uncle Charlie in the 1950 radio adaptation. A full presentation of the Screen Director's Playhouse episode of Shadow of a Doubt. So, grab your headphones, settle into your favorite chair, and prepare for a suspenseful ride into Hitchcock territory. As always, stay tuned after the play for my thoughts and a few laughs to lighten the mood.
