On Ron's Amazing Stories this week we have a mixed bag. We open with three incredible ghost adventures - May tells us about her spirit guide, Wisp9988 has an experience with sleep paralysis and loves it, and Amanda tells about her blue grandpa. Our main tale comes from the 60's pulp mags and tells us all about the FBI Superman who can't be killed. This one was suggested by listener Doyle Riley. As an added bonus we have a short story titled Resurrection. So grab your favorite beverage and press that play button! Featured Story - Sight Gag Our featured story was suggested by Doyle Riley, a listener from Scottsdale, Arizona. Doyle said in his email that I was going to love this story. He was right. It is a strange tale of the life and times of the FBI Supermen. Intelligence is a great help in the evolution-by-survival—but intelligence without muscle is even less useful than muscle without brains. But it's so easy to forget that muscle—plain physical force—is important, too! The story is titled Sight Gag and was written by Larry M. Harris. It was first published in Analog Science Fact & Fiction Magazine in May of 1962. Other Stories Include - Marks Of Death, Columbus Day, Spirit Wolf, Fun With Sleep Paralysis, My GrandPa is Blue, Sight Gag, and Resurrection. Triplanetary - First in the Lensman series by E. E. Smith audiobook. Triplanetary was first serialized in Amazing Stories in 1934. After the Lensman series became popular, Smith took his Triplanetary story and turned it into the first of the Lensman series, using it as a prequel to give the back story for the protaganists in the Lensmen series. He added 6 new chapters, doubling it in size and it's really a different book from the serialized novel, being published 14 years after the first. It was put into Gutenberg just last year. The novel covers several episodes in an eons-long eugenics project of the super-intelligences of the Arisia. This alien race is breeding two genetic lines to become the ultimate weapon in Arisia's cosmic war with their arch enemy, the Eddore. The initial chapters cover the Kinnison genetic line during the fall of Atlantis and Nero's (Gharlane of Eddore) reign in Rome. These tales were inserted into the novel following the serialized release, along with chapters covering members of the Kinnison line in World Wars One, Two and Three. The final chapter of Triplanetary tells of the discovery of the inertialess drive that allows faster than light travel. Patrolman Conway Costigan and his friends engage in a space battle with Gray Roger the pirate gangster. This conflict is complicated by the arrival of the technologically superior, extra-Solar, amphibian-like Nevians, resulting in the first interstellar war involving humans. In this story Virgil Samms and Roderick Kinnison, two very important members of the eugenics project, are introduced. They will play the leading roles in the next story, First Lensman.
Tonight's scary story is about a man who is digging a well when he finds something strange going on at the bottom of the hole. We are so excited to share with you Basel Nassar's story in this show.Nassar's best friends and loyal followers, a 170 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback dog and an 11 pound Siamese Lynx cat, were his inspiration for founding Boss Nation Brands Inc. with the Boss Dog® Brand and Boss Cat® brand pillars. The company, founded in late 2018, has grown leaps and bounds since inception. Nassar is proud to say that when you stand in the center of a pet store you will be able to see his products in every segment of the pet store.Basel was one of the original founders of Greek Gods Yogurt, which is now a multi-million-dollar brand sold in grocery stores all over the world. After selling that company, Basel decided to start another company, Boss Dog Brand, after he adopted a dog named Kelby who refused to eat. Kelby was a picky eater and had digestive issues, so Basel, understanding the yogurt industry, created a yogurt full of probiotics for dogs. Kelby loved it and soon the company began in late 2018.Two years later, Basel wants to help felines too. With the help of his cat Franky, a 3-year-old Siamese Lynx, Boss Cat is now a reality. It all makes sense, since his little kitty runs the show in his family, which also includes three dogs and a rescued 300-pound tortoise named Otis.He supports animal welfare nonprofits, and has sponsored adoption events all over the United States, which has helped hundreds of cats and dogs find new loving homes. Basel is a serial entrepreneur and minority business owner who is passionate about making life better for animals. He'd make a wonderful guest as he has a big personality. Well It finally happened, a podcaster's worst nightmare. Ron was struck down with laryngitis. He is nearly over it, but it did make putting a show together this week challenging. The good news is that you are getting all new content. The better news is that we are playing a story that we have wanted to run for a long time, but couldn't because of its length. It comes from the October, 1930 issue of Astounding Stories and takes us into the world of mad science. Featured Story - An Extra Man Our featured story is quite unique. Especially when you realize that it was first published in October of 1930 in Astounding Magazine. This one was way ahead of its time. Star Trek was known for its use of the transporter. But where did Rodenbary get the idea for it? Perhaps it came from our story today. It is titled An Extra Man and this is a fun one. A native of Albion, Michigan, Gwen Dew became a prolific writer, journalist and photographer in the late 1930's through the 1950's. She was a world traveler, and served as a Southeast Asian correspondent for the Detroit News and Newsweek Magazine in the early 1940's. In December 1941, she was in Hong Kong when the Japanese invaded, and was taken prisoner. She would spend six months as a prisoner of war until her release in June of 1942. When she returned home, despite poor health, she wrote a book on her experiences and toured the nation selling war bonds and enlightening the people on the homefront about the war. Following the war, she was the first female journalist to cover the rebuilding of Japan under MacArthur. Her story is an amazing one, and she was an amazing woman from Southwest Michigan. On Ron's Amazing Stories we are bringing back an old friend to the show. The Blue Beetle. The last time we heard from him was in , and that is far too long. BB is a superhero patrolman who got his start in the comics in 1939. What I will play is his origin story from the classic radio series of the same name. Also on the show, have three stories from you guys. A brand new one from Ray Peyton about a lighter and two chilling tales that should get your blood flowing. Featured Story - The Shadow And His Dog Our featured story is not from old time radio, or the pulp magazines, and we don't have a guest. However, what we do have is a creepy listener story that, quite frankly, gave me chills while I recorded it. It was sent into the show by Brian Shaw from Salem, Oregon. Brian tells a story about a shadow man who stands out in front of his house watching. This is one creepy story! Other Stories Include - Pattern Of Guilt, 2001 - A Space Odyssey - A Review, The Purple Lighter, Did that just happen, The Dog and His Shadow, and The Drug Ring Ron's Amazing Stories Is Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. Your hosts Dr. Dean Bertram and Jason McLean venture into the "pulps" wing of the Mysterious Library, to dissect the controversial tale that lay the framework for much of modern UFO belief.Yes, we're talking about the "Shaver Mystery"; a series of allegedly true stories written by Richard Shaver and Raymond Palmer. These tales blew up in the pages of the pulp magazine AMAZING STORIES in the mid 1940s.According to Shaver, he was receiving messages beamed into his head by an Antediluvian space-faring civilization, the remnants of which still lived in caverns beneath the surface of the earth. There, these malevolent "Deros" used their advanced technologies to disrupt the lives of surface dwelling humans, and often kidnapped humans to the subterranean world below! The Shaver Mystery would impact soon to emerge beliefs about flying saucers, as well as a wide range of other esoteric and pop culture motifs. All of which will be examined in this week's Mysterious Library!

On this episode of Our American Stories, flying for the United States in WWII was dangerous work, and the numbers show for it. In the Eighth Air Force alone, 26,000 men paid the ultimate sacrifice—one half of the casualties in the entire U.S. Army Air Force. It was only by sheer grit and a little bit of luck that Steve Snyder's father, Howard, managed to return from Europe alive, as he and his crew had been shot down over Belgium. Here's Steve to tell the story. Support the show (https://www.ouramericanstories.com/donate)See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On Ron's Amazing Stories we have a pseudo theme on the life and times of Isaac Asimov. We review an audiobook written by him called Robot Dreams. We even play a game of Johnny Is It True where you get to pick which famous Asimovian quote I faked. Add to that a story from the OTR series 2000 plus that is titled Robot Killer, well I think you get the idea. Not too worry though it is not all robots there are two ghost stories sent in by Richard and Tambra that are quite creepy. Featured Story - Killer Robot Our featured story comes from the short lived radio series 2000 Plus. It ran on the Mutual Broadcasting System for a little over a year ending in 1952. It was the first adult science fiction series on radio, airing one month prior to the better-known Dimension X. The tale is called Robot Killer and is one that Isacc Asimov would be proud of. It takes a good look at the pitfalls of owning a robot. It aired in Late 1950. John Pinney has amazing stories what it's like to grow up with mom working the trapeze in the circus and dad doing the ticket sales of a traveling circus and carnival. His stories are insighful and funny growing up learning how to control the games and how to steer people to spend more on a game that they can't win OR make sure they do win. A GREAT and FUN podcast.
This Crowded Earth by Robert Bloch audiobook. Robert Bloch (1917 – 1994) was a prolific writer in many genres. As a young man he was encouraged by his mentor H. P. Lovecraft, and was a close friend of Stanley G. Weinbaum. Besides hundreds of short stories and novels he wrote a number of television and film scripts including several for the original Star Trek. In 1959 Bloch wrote the novel Psycho which Alfred Hitchcock adapted to film a year later. He received the Hugo Award, the World Fantasy Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and he is a past president of the Mystery Writers of America. Published in Amazing Stories in 1958, This Crowded Earth is a thriller set on an overpopulated Earth of the future.
I am extremely excited to have on the show today a fellow podcaster, established producer, director, and writer, Mick Garris. Mick's podcast, Post Mortem with Mick Garris, dives deep into the devious minds of the greatest filmmakers and creators of your worst nightmares to bring their distinctive visions to life in fascinating one-on-one conversations. He's renowned for his classic screen adaptation of Stephen King's books like Sleepwalkers (1992), The Shinning and The Stand. and creator of 2005, Masters of Horror series. The California native began his passion for storytelling as early as 12 years old - writing short stories. He launched his passion onto the journalism path at just 16 years old. Driven by curiosity, he freelanced as a film and music critic and landed interviews with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Rod Serling, and Ray Bradbury in the 70s. It's remarkable what Mick accomplished in a time where everyone needed to know someone to get a foot in the door, let alone that early in life and without the help of social media. I guess folks were intrigued by his talent and drive. While doing film criticism, Mick wrote specs, publications for magazines, and did some filming on 8mm. The guy lived the dream. The hard work began to pay off. His agent, Rick Jaffa read some of his specs, believed in him, and introduced Mick to Steven Spielberg. Mick ended up writing the first episode of the Spielberg sci-fi series, Amazing Stories, and seven other episodes. He's credited for writing screenplays like Psycho IV: The Beginning, Fly II, and the She-Wolf of London series. He was also was an editor on Spielberg's other project, *Batteries Not Included, in which aliens help a feisty old New York couple in their battle against the ruthless land developer who's out to evict them.Garris has written and directed a lot of other horror classics such as Halloween comedy favorite, Hocus Pocus. The film follows a villainous comedic trio of witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night.Garris and I talked about his incredibly difficult yet fun experience shooting his small budget directorial debut, feature sequel Critters 2. In the film, Eggs of the small but voracious alien creatures called Crites are left behind on earth and, after hatching, set their appetites on the small farm town of Grover's Bend. The man's contribution to the horror genre has amazing. Can't wait for you to catch up on my conversation with Mick Garris.
On Ron's Amazing Stories we have another week of the spooky and this time we go full throttle on the horror. We head into the dream world with two great listener stories. A phantom boy in a pole barn and a ghost invades Elena's dreams. Our featured story is about a vengeful witch on a killing spree. Finally, the podcast winds down with a special Johnny Is It True ghost stories edition. So press that play button and enjoy the show. Featured Story - The Vengeful Corpse Our featured story comes from the Himan Brown radio series Inner Sanctum. Their stories were normally campy and fun, but every now then Brown would venture into the realm of the truly horrific. CRAIG CAMPOBASSO BIOGRAPHY Multiple award-winning filmmaker and Emmy-nominated casting director Craig Campobasso was fifteen when he started in the entertainment business. His young acting career was off to a great start; he landed his first national commercial for McDonald's chicken sandwich, and spoke his first line of dialogue to Tuesday Weld in a MOW. After graduating high school at age seventeen, Craig went to work behind-the-scenes on such blockbuster film classics as Frank Herbert's Dune directed by David Lynch; and two Arnold Schwarzenegger movies Conan The Destroyer and Total Recall. He began his casting career on Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories. He received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Casting for a Series on David E. Kelley's Picket Fences. Craig's casting career spans three decades. Craig's mother Marie Donna King Campobasso told him from the time she was pregnant with him that she knew he would become a writer. He fulfilled that prophecy when he was twenty-six, after he experienced a life-changing spiritual awakening. That's when The Autobiography of an ExtraTerrrestrial Saga book series was born. His passion is to write stories that provoke the reader to think, to raise their consciousness, to expand their mind about Creation, while still entertaining in the Hollywood tradition. Craig directed, wrote and produced the short film Stranger at the Pentagon, which was adapted from the popular UFO book authored by the late Dr. Frank E. Stranges. After production, the short film collected accolades. In September 2014, it won Best Sci-Fi film at the Burbank International Film Festival, selling out all 275 seats—a first for the festival. In 2015, it won a Remi Award at the Worldfest Houston International Film Festival for Best Sci-Fi Short. Craig has appeared on many radio shows, including Coast to Coast AM with George Noory and Fade to Black with Jimmy Church. He has also been a guest on the Open Minds talk show, with Regina Meredith; and Beyond Belief, hosted by George Noory on www.Gaia.com. Craig has also appeared on The History Channel's Ancient Aliens, where Giorgio A. Tsoukalos is the main Ancient Astronaut theorist. The Autobiography of an ExtraTerrestrial Saga: The Huroid Revolution and Other Warring Creatures is the fourth book in the series. Craig is currently writing two sequel books. His latest book The Extraterrestrial Species Almanac: The Ultimate Guide to Greys, Reptilians, Hybrids, and Nordics had been a best-seller on Amazon and was released on January 1, 2021. Craig is currently making the ET Almanac into a documentary and will bring the ETs to life through CGI--computer generated images. His new book The UFO Hotspot Compendium: All the Places To Visit Before You Die or Are Abducted release is set for October 1, 2022. Every year on Ron's Amazing Stories we turn to the macabre and take a look at the dark side. We call this The Month Of Spooky. In this episode it is all about the doll. That cute and cuddly creature that is stuff of nightmares. Movies like Child's Play or Annabelle have turned these figurines of joy into menaces and harbingers of evil. What we have are three doll stories sent in by you; An Elsa doll, Gramma's favorite doll, and a jealous Clown Doll. Then we will play one of the top 31 scariest stories from the golden age of radio. It came in at number 15 and while not exactly a doll story it does explore one possible origin of the Wax Mannequin. Featured Story - Evening Primrose Our featured story comes from the OTR series Escape starring William Conrad. A penniless poet, played by Eliot Lewis, decides to move into a department store and live in ease and comfort off of its inventory. He didn't bargain for the race of pale mutants who already live there. Or for how they dispose of anyone who rebels against them. The story is titled Evening Primrose and first aired November 5, 1947. Other Stories Include - Murder In A Turkish Bath, Halloween Folklore & Festivities, The Haunted Doll, Gramma's Doll, The Clown Doll, and Evening Primrose. Dr. Peter Gurry is a well respected scholar, Greek professor at Phoenix Seminary, and the author or coauthor of numerous articles and books, including the new "Myths and Mistakes in New Testament Textual Criticism," which is careful analysis of rhetoric and facts about how reliable the New Testament is. Here is the playlist where top scholar after top scholar review The Passion Translation and demonstrate that when it offers something new it's frequently something wrong. This is the interview on Alisa Childers' channel where today's clip was found. She was interviewing both Dr. Peter Gurry and Dr. John Meade on "The Amazing Story of How We Got the Bible." It's worth a listen if you find that topic interesting. My website: https://BibleThinker.org
