Alan R. Warren: Above Suspicion: The True Story of Serial Killer Russell WilliamsYoung girl's panties started to go missing; sexual assaults began to occur, and then female bodies were found! Soon this quiet town of Tweed, Ontario, was in panic. What's even more shocking was when an upstanding resident stood accused of the assaults. This was not just any man, but a pillar of the community; a decorated military pilot who had flown Canadian Forces VIP aircraft for dignitaries such as the Queen of England, Prince Philip, the Governor General and Prime Minister of Canada. This is the story of serial killer Russell Williams, the elite pilot of Canada's Air Force One, and the innocent victims he murdered. Unlike other serial killers, Williams seemed very unaffected about his crimes and leading two different lives.Alan R. Warren describes the secret life including the abductions, rape and murders that were unleashed on an unsuspecting community. Included are letters written to the victims by Williams and descriptions of the assaults and rapes as seen on videos and photos taken by Williams during the attacks.https://amzn.to/3J8RZb7Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
Amanda Tweed is British. She spent many years addicted to drugs. Due to her addiction she committed crime to fund her addiction which led her down a dark path to destruction and despair. Amanda spent 13 years of going in and out of prison for shoplifting offences. Amanda has over 50 convictions for theft related crimes and her last prison sentence was in October 2010 to January 2011. After leaving prison in January 2011, Amanda was sent to a supported accommodation type hostel. She settled in her room and went to bed, fell asleep and when she woke up the following morning, every negative limitation vanished. Amanda was self realised as the psychological mind fell away leaving her in the state of blissful Christ consciousness. https://www.amandatweed.comamanda.amandatweed@gmail.comFor the work she does in relation to mental health well-being the website is: https://www.redflagwellbeing.co.uk.amanda.redflag@gmail.co.uk
Until now, the standard narrative of American religious history has begun with English settlers in Jamestown or Plymouth and remained predominantly Protestant and Atlantic. Driven by his strong sense of the historical and moral shortcomings of the usual story, Thomas A. Tweed offers a very different narrative in this ambitious new history. He begins the story much earlier—11,000 years ago—at a rock shelter in present-day Texas and follows Indigenous Peoples, African Americans, transnational migrants, and people of many faiths as they transform the landscape and confront the big lifeway transitions, from foraging to farming and from factories to fiber optics. Setting aside the familiar narrative themes, Dr. Tweed highlights sustainability, showing how religion both promoted and inhibited individual, communal, and environmental flourishing during three sustainability crises: the medieval Cornfield Crisis, which destabilized Indigenous ceremonial centers; the Colonial Crisis, which began with the displacement of Indigenous Peoples and the enslavement of Africans; and the Industrial Crisis, which brought social inequity and environmental degradation. The unresolved Colonial and Industrial Crises continue to haunt the nation, Dr. Tweed suggests, but he recovers historical sources of hope as he retells the rich story of America's religious past. Our guest is: Dr. Thomas A. Tweed, who is professor emeritus of American Studies and history at the University of Notre Dame. — Neugierig geworden? On this day in Tudor history, 25th June 1601, Peregrine Bertie, 13th Baron Willoughby, died of fever at Berwick-upon-Tweed. Born in exile during the reign of Mary I, Bertie was the son of Katherine Willoughby, Duchess of Suffolk and widow of Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. A soldier, a diplomat, and a loyal servant to Elizabeth I, Bertie led troops in the Netherlands, fought at the Battle of Zutphen, and helped defend England during the time of the Spanish Armada. In this podcast, I look at the life and legacy of this often-overlooked Tudor figure, from his birth abroad to his final days at the Anglo-Scottish border. #TudorHistory #PeregrineBertie #AnneBoleynFiles #TudorSoldier #ElizabethanEra #OnThisDay #HistoryVideo #ClaireRidgway

In the 33rd Patreon bonus podcast I'm back in the Scottish borders, spending some time in the most northerly English town. This is a place that I have a huge fondness for, so much so, that this is a place I took you on a ghost walk last Halloween. You join me spending time here on a bit of a break, but despite this supposedly being a bit of rest and relaxation I couldn't resist grabbing my voice recorder and a torch and heading off to some of the spookier parts of this historic town after dark. Especially considering that listeners have made me aware of places here that I didn't even know are said to be haunted. So join me and let us ask, together, just how haunted is Berwick-upon-Tweed? What's “Reformed” theology today? Greg Smith, a former Reformed pastor, unravels the tweed-coated posturing of a brand that claims intellectual edge but feels like evangelicalism with elbow patches. From preaching TULIP to questioning its cracks, he exposes a vague identity coasting on buzzwords. Catholicism's 2,000-year depth—think Aquinas, cathedrals, Chesterton—makes Reformed flexing look silly. Join Greg's journey from Calvinism to Rome, and ask: Is Reformed just a brand for smarter but generic evangelicals? Support this ministry so more people can consider Catholicism! Send us a textEpisode 276 - The Tweed Salmon FestivalThis was the chance for me to hop in the van, pass over some rivers I've dreamed about and make my way to Scotland for The Tweed Salmon Festival.I catch up with friends old and new, talking with them about fishing, what it means to them as they walk around the show. This is a new show run by good people that, at its heart, is trying to encourage young people into fishing. I so enjoyed seeing so many children catching their first fish.I also talk to tackle companies and the good people from Patagonia who alongside supporting the event, had their Worn Wear repair service that was available not just for their own brand but any brand where you could get a favourite piece of clothing repaired. We had good food, a few drinks and music from Colin Macleod who sang for us Saturday evening. It doesn't matter if you don't salmon fish, this is about the people. I'm hoping you'll enjoy it.I've tried hard to capture the event and the overall feel of it.It was really special.
Trevor Steven, the player who scored the goal that produced arguably the loudest roar in the Grand Old Lady's history, is Chris Beesley's latest guest on Goodison Park: My Home. Steven netted the goal that clinched Everton's place in the 1985 European Cup-Winners' Cup final when he sealed the 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in what is widely regarded as Goodison Park's greatest-ever night. Born in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Steven recalls his early football memories, growing up close to England's border with Scotland, before getting his big break in the professional ranks at Burnley, where he played alongside a previous Goodison Park: My Home guest Martin Dobson. Having been snapped up by fellow North Easterner Howard Kendall for £300,000 in 1983, Steven's first season on Merseyside finished with him delivering the cross for Andy Gray's goal to clinch the 2-0 victory over Watford in the FA Cup final. The following season, the midfielder was part of Everton's most-successful side with a memorable goal at Tottenham Hotspur in the title run-in as well as scoring both in the semi-final second leg and final in Europe. Steven then went on to become top scorer in a second Blues' League Championship-winning side in 1987 before departing Goodison after the 1989 FA Cup final. Now 61, Steven, who in 1991 commanded the joint-highest fee for a British player at the time when he moved from Rangers to Marseille for £5.5million, also delivers an important message about how through his work with charity Mindflow, he is trying to use football to help improve mental health in the construction industry. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 555 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - The Wampler Cryptid is a beast of a fuzz pedal - and we try a super inexpensive compressor! Somebody has been hanging out with legends and it is not Brian this time and Richard stuffs his face as a result. He had been to see Albert Lee and was mightily impressed. He learned some interesting and encouraging tips by having front row seats and is excited to tell us about it and he is also inspired and may have found the fountain of youth before the caffeine kicks in.Have you ever heard about the Indian Tar Pit squid? It is a type of cryptid that inspired the concept for the all new Wampler Cryptid Fuzz pedal. The guys touch on it before Richard shoots off in a completely random direction because he has bought an incredibly cheap pedal. He is then confused by film ratings. The industry mourns the passing of a legend so the guys touch on it and Blake gives us a bit of history to add context. Brian discovers he was in a book and it took him by surprise and also did an interview with some folk from Richard's part of the world. Blake has to leave early and so the guys go on a deep dive into an inexpensive pedal brand and are really impressed. On this episode we speak with Astrid Wendlandt, the founder of the fashion news website Miss Tweed. This year Miss Tweed came to prominence as the first to break many fashion appointment news, and has made plenty of powerful enemies, such as Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH, and Johann Rupert, the owner of Richemont. But Wendlandt is no rumor-monger; she is a veteran journalist who for decades has worked at prestigious publications like Reuters and the Financial Times, where she honed her investigative reporting skills. We talk about the arc of her career, including her first job at the Moscow Times in Russia's wild '90s, her eventual pivot to reporting on luxury fashion, the founding of Miss Tweed, her work methods, and the challenges she faces as a fashion reporter, including her being banned by Arnault and Rupert from getting information on their companies. My conversation with two remarkable Australian artists, Robert Malherbe and Keith Burt was in front of a fabulous audience at the Tweed Regional Gallery. Robert and Keith completed residencies at the gallery's Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio, drawing inspiration from objects in Margaret Olley's recreated home studio at the gallery. The result of their residencies is A Dictionary for Painting, a stunning exhibition on display until March 2, 2025. In this episode, Robert and Keith share their creative highs and lows, offering an intimate glimpse into the making of their works. Special thanks to Tweed Regional Gallery for recording this event and sound engineer Dan Harcombe for his expertise.
