Host Carl Jones is joined by former Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Bolton and Watford defender Neil Cox to deep dive into a career with more than 600 professional appearances. From being integrated into the first team squad aged just 13 at his hometown club Scunthorpe United to a unique transfer fee to Villa Park and the top flight in 1991, Neil's career path is a fascinating one. Part of the Riverside Revolution, as Middlesbrough signed off at Ayresome Park by winning the First Division title, he was a key member of the Boro side that reached both cup finals and suffered relegation thanks to a points deduction in 1996/97. We discuss that and how his bust-up with Fabrizio Ravanelli led to him meeting Pele. We also chat about what it's like to play in a final day relegation decider, his vastly different relationships with Graham Taylor and Gianluca Vialli at Watford, and his own move into the dugout as Assistant at AFC Wimbledon - what were those first meetings with MK Dons like? Tony Mowbray is a Teesside icon - the iconic skipper of a young team of local lads that under Bruce Rioch took the club from the 3rd tier to the 1st with successive promotions against a backdrop that saw the club almost cease to exist and be locked out of its Ayresome Park home back in 1986. Football fans in general will recognise Tony Mowbray as the manager of clubs like West Brom, Celtic, Hibernian, Blackburn Rovers most recently and of course, his beloved Middlesbrough. A great football mind and man who just lives and breathes the game. The arrival of Bryan Robson changed Middlesbrough Football Club. The revolution began in 1994 in the final season at Ayresome Park before the move to the shiny new Riverside Stadium. Before any of that excitement there was a league title to fight for. Robson arrived with no managerial experience but an aura on the pitch and around the club. He was the difference. He was the man who could take the club to new heights. And he did. Editor Rob Fletcher and Boro Mag writers Ian Smith and Tom Flight reminisce that final season at Boro's famous stadium. The signings, the sights and the sounds of a promotion winning season. Brian Clough never forgot his Middlesbrough roots. In this taster of the forthcoming pod, there are stories and memories from his Boro days. Joining host Marcus Alton are Boro fanzine editor Robert Nicholls and Middlesbrough historian Dr Tosh Warwick. "I remember when Brian visited Ayresome Park for the last time. It was a very emotional day," recalls Robert, whose house is on the site of the old stadium. "Brian's background naturally made him fight the cause of the underdog," says Tosh, who explains how Cloughie ensured there was a testimonial match for his own footballing hero. Marcus Alton is the editor of the tribute website, brianclough.com, which helps to raise money for the types of good causes Brian supported. Marcus has written four books about Clough - all of which have been Amazon best-sellers. Clough's autobiographies are still available (original edition published by Transworld; Walking on Water published by Headline).

Brucie Rioch’s babes were also occasionally described as Brucie’s blond bombshells. That’s because several key members of that promotion winning side boasted fair hair. For some, the colour came from a bottle, but Stuart Ripley was the real deal. The sight of the powerfully-built blond haired winger racing down the wing was something to behold. The Middlesbrough-born winger made the short journey from the Ayresome Park terraces to the pitch and was a fans’ favourite, helping the club to win back-to-back promotions in 1987 and 1988.In the latest GazetteLive podcast, Ripley relives that journey with Boro editor Philip Tallentire. Colin Cooper is something of a Middlesbrough legend.A member of the team that rose from the ashes to win back-to-back promotions in 1987 and 1988 under Bruce Rioch, the 50-year-old is now an England Under-21 coach. He was a Boro player when they were at their lowest ebb – 1986’s liquidation – and when they were at their peak – the 2004 League Cup final in Cardiff. He’s worn the red shirt at a crumbling Ayresome Park and in the modern surroundings of the Riverside Stadium.Cooper has been a reserve and first team coach at Boro and was even, briefly, the caretaker manager when Gareth Southgate was sacked in 2009.So, it’s fair to say there was plenty to talk about when he sat down with Gazette Boro Editor Philip Tallentire to record an exclusive podcast.Cooper is an engaging and honest interviewee so why not hear what he has to say about his career so far and his plans for the future? He talks about leaving Boro in 1991, returning seven years later after successful stints with Millwall and Nottingham Forest. He reveals his pride at winning two England caps and playing against Brazilian legends Ronaldo, Juninho and Edmundo at Wembley. He talks about the pain of relegation in 2009 and his frustrations with Hartlepool during his first spell in management. He even reveals a fondness for North-east band Maximo Park and a friendship with their Boro-supporting lead singer Paul Smith.
