We kick off with John's first art memory, his love of music, and auditioning for Chrysalis Records, then dive into his journalism days, if he still gets the itch to write, how he transitioned from journalist to CEO, the three key decisions which transformed the FT and the key decisions that will keep it going. We discuss the AI Elephant in the virtual room, what makes a modern CEO, his collecting tastes, which include Bonsai trees, surfboards, and a deep love for music photography and much, much more! Elana Levin from Graphic Policy Radio returns to the show for a deep dive into the second wave of Ska music, a brief but influential era when black and white UK musicians fused Jamaican dance music of the sixties into punk and new wave music of the seventies to create a sound that would further revolutionize American popular music in the nineties. The modern ska genre gets made fun of a lot (mozzarella sticks, anyone?) but Elana will have you know that ska music is not a joke. In an 18-month period, 2 Tone Records, an indie label founded by the keyboardist from The Specials, Jerry Dammers, took over the UK pop charts with major distribution support from Chrysalis Records. In the wake of the election of Margaret Thatcher and the rise of white nationalists taking advantage of national economic malaise, a musical rebuke of these trends came from bands in the town of Coventry, offering alternative visions of racial harmony and anti-fascist songs you could dance to. The 1981 concert documentary Dance Craze, recently restored, captures the 2 Tone bands performing in their prime. We discuss the evolution of ska, pay tribute to some of the top groups of the Second Wave Ska era including The Selecter, Madness, Bad Manners and The Specials and bid farewell to their lead singer the late great Terry Hall, whose passing last year inspired this episode. They'd been on the verge of breaking through for a couple of years, and sisters Romi & Jazz had their hopes up when their record label paired them with Stock Aitken Waterman for their latest single in 1990. The siblings join us to share their musical journey — from their first steps into the industry with a bhangra meets hi-NRG remake of The Four Tops' "Reach Out", which was co-produced by former SAW associate Pete Ware, to their two initial singles with Chrysalis Records, "People In The House" and "Love Crime". Romi and Jazz talk about their aim of breaking down barriers with their fusion sound and rewriting the rule book for Asian women, despite some resistance from men in their culture to them even being onstage in the first place. Their collaboration with SAW, "One Love One World", was a club-influenced, socially conscious track born out of Romi and Jazz talking to Mike Stock and Matt Aitken about the struggles they'd faced as young Indian women. Another song with a more serious theme than you'd expect from the Hit Factory was "You've Got A Friend", a collaboration between Sonia and Big Fun (featuring Gary Barnacle on saxophone) for UK charity Childline. With help from Matt Aitken, we discuss the record and why the original track was chosen over a cover of the Carole King song of the same name, which the pop stars also recorded.Subscribe for bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/sawTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @MrMattDenbyInstagram: @chartbeatsauFacebook: Chart Beats: A Journey Through PopEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com

For the 30th anniversary of the 2x Grammy Award winning group, Arrested Development's, pioneering debut album, 3 YEARS, 5 MONTHS AND 2 DAYS IN THE LIFE OF…, Speech joins us for a detailed look at how the record was made. After getting his start in a high school hip hop group in Milwaukee called Attack, Speech left for more opportunities in Atlanta. He connected with Headliner at The Art Institute of Atlanta and the two of them formed Arrested Development, gradually adding group members, Aerle Taree, Montsho Eshe, Rasa Don and Baba Oje, along the way. Eventually, Arrested Development signed a deal with Chrysalis Records, which took exactly 3 years, 5 months and 2 days, giving their debut album its title. In this episode, Speech describes how we became conscious and wanted to form a hip hop group that was an alternative to the gangsta rap that was popular at the time. From being one of the first hip hop groups out of Atlanta to developing a melodic rhyming style to 4-track bedroom recording to the expensive art of sampling to Dionne Farris's incredible guest vocals, we'll hear the stories of how the album came together.

Neil Giraldo was born in 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio. Immersed in the culture of his beloved Sicilian ancestry, his parents Anthony and Angela Giraldo instilled the love of music at a young age, giving Neil his first guitar at the age of six, with the hopes that he and his sister, Priscilla, who played the accordion, could entertain family and friends with songs from the old country after church on Sundays. As Neil got older, his mentor, Uncle Tim, introduced him to revolutionary bands like The Yardbirds, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, and all the other great guitar-driven rock ‘n' roll bands of the 1960s. Finding new and innovative ways to shadow path his way into songs, Neil developed a discipline early on of not just playing along to his favorite artists but creating different parts for himself within those tracks. At the same time, the budding guitar artist also became proficient on piano by continuously practicing along to Chuck Berry (Johnnie Johnson), Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis records. His interest in percussion instruments soon followed, practicing the drums to Simon & Garfunkel albums he explored how different rhythms could alter the complexion of songs. These practices and disciplines created the foundation for his future success as an innovative record producer and musician. Giraldo began his professional career in 1978 as a key member of the Rick Derringer band after competing against 200 other guitarists for the position. It wasn't long before Rick discovered Giraldo's piano playing prowess and quickly put those skills to work in the studio for the recording Guitars and Women. In the spring of 1979, Mike Chapman introduced Giraldo to an up-and-coming singer named Pat Benatar who had recently signed to Chrysalis Records. While impressed with the young vocalist, Chapman felt she needed a musical partner who could facilitate the creation of a sound both identifiable and powerful. Over the years Neil has produced some of their biggest hits including “Love is a Battlefield” and “We Belong.” With a back catalog of more than 100 songs written and more than 45 million records sold, Giraldo has written, produced, arranged, and recorded for Pat Benatar, John Waite, Rick Springfield, Kenny Loggins, Steve Forbert, The Del Lords, Beth Hart, The Coors, and others, which include many Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning hits. Today, Giraldo's career is as dynamic and diverse as ever. He is in the process of completing two books – one an autobiographical novel, one a motivational book on the psychology of creating. He is further expanding his Bel Chiasso entertainment company, which is developing a variety of television, film and Broadway theater projects. On May 16th 2016 Neil founded Three Chord Bourbon to celebrate creativity, community, and tradition by bringing together the award-winning musician and producer's love of whiskey and music with his passion for conversations with family and friends. Inspired by the simplicity yet infinite expressions of the three chord progression — the foundation of the blues — Neil collaborated with master blender and distiller, Ari Sussman, to bring together notes of a variety of bourbons and create a distinctive taste in whiskey that balances simplicity and complexity in perfect harmony. Neil has utilized this new platform to assist emerging musicians via Three Chord Musical Ambassador program. Learn more at ThreeChordBourbon.com Show Highlights: 05:40 – The origination of his company Three Chord Bourbon and specifically how the “Strange Collaboration” line was created. 09:05 – The power and necessity of integrity, intuition, & gratitude. Neil pays tribute to his father. 12:30 – How Neil got started playing music. Neil pays tribute to his mother and her value of discipline. Also, how he was introduced to Rock-n-Roll and how his cousin “Skeeter” influenced his guitar playing. 18:50 – How intuition & feel is the key to his playing and production styles; being present and how “over-thinking” destroys creativity.  Also a deep dive into how he values producing and dissecting songs. 26:30 – A deep dive on Neil's “percussive” style of playing guitar. 35:00 – Neil's mission & vison of Three Chord Bourbon. It's all about giving back to musicians and teaching them how to do the “business” side of music. 46:00 – How Neil has progressed as a husband, father, & leader.  Neil also talks about the power of extreme confidence that is coupled with humility and teachability. 53:00 – A discussion around limiting beliefs & self-doubt. Neil talks about the necessity of drive, tenacity, and confidence.  Neil also talks about how to use a “chip-on-your-shoulder” mentality in a positive way. 61:00 – Saying yes to the Universe, chance encounters, and the creation of his collaboration with Pat Benatar. Episode 53 - Loyalty & Respect: Part 1 - is live with expert Ali Dee.  *The opening and closing music on this week's episode is a song called Who's Da Flava (1992) from our expert, Ali Dee!*There's some noise in the basement so the Idiots had a change in venue. Kops and Lee are recording this week from Hailey's bedroom, aka ‘The Bird Nest'. The Olympic opening ceremonies were a few days earlier, Kops and Lisa are very appreciative of all the messages and well wishes. They are enjoying this experience. Last week's episode had a very good response both in the number of downloads and the reaction the boys have received. There have been texts and calls from people who agree and disagree with Gila. In making this podcast Kops and Lee will always try to talk to different people and create a space to listen to other people's points of view - whether you agree with them or not. This week's expert is Hip Hop, movie, and TV music producer Ali Dee. Kops has known Ali for many years, they worked on some projects together. Ali has always been a hustler and grinder, there is a lot for all of us to learn from Ali's journey. Ali Dee joins Kops and Lee (09:39) and gets right into his early life and how he started in music; his mother was a Broadway choreographer, his father was a US government covert ops inventor (check out this Wall Street Jornal article here), then as a teenager gets involved in the Hip Hop dance & music scene. Ali created strong relationships and was the only white kid in these neighborhoods doing dance and rap battles, he didn't see color (literally and figuratively!). Ali started to write and produce songs then started a group called the Park Ave Rappers and was offered his first record deal - which his mother wouldn't let him sign. In 1989 Ali started the first white and black rap group, The Next School, signed to Chrysalis Records and released the single Profits of Unity. Ali goes on tour, leaves his The Next School partner, decides to take control of his own destiny, works on many different projects as an artist, then settles on being a full time producer.  Kops and Lee close out Part 1 of their conversation with Ali (01:17:00). --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/radioflowok/message

In the early 1970s, Bobbi Silver began her career path on the record label Radio road.  Bobbi was hired as a promotions assistant at Jamie/Guyden Records from a chance dinner meeting among friends.  Bobbi's first major label gig was with Chrysalis Records.  She was in the early day trenches of RSO Records working projects (like Saturday Night Fever, Grease, The Bee Gees, Andy Gibb, and Eric Clapton) and Casablanca Records with projects like Donna Summer, The Village People, and KISS.  During the 80s, Bobbi, was working the best up and comers on the RCA, Polygram, and Polydor record labels.  The 90s arrived with a completely different music scene, and Bobbi was brought on to the Geffen Record label working Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, Cher, Whitesnake, and Aerosmith.  Geffen merged with Interscope and A&M to become one label,,,and THE one constant was Bobbi Silver who stayed on with them until her decided retirement after 42 years in the Record & Radio industry.  Listen as Bobbi tells us many of her favorite recollections from the Records and Radio road.     You can download or stream every episode of AIRCHECK from Apple Podcasts,  Spotify, and Google Podcasts.  You can also ask your Smart Speaker to “Play Aircheck Podcast”. If you're a radio vet with a story to tell we want to hear from you.Email us at Aircheckme@gmail.com Follow us on Facebook:  facebook.com/aircheckmeTell us what you think and your favorite episode!

Melissa grew up in Ipswich, MA during the 70's, playing the violin and going to jazz clubs on the North Shore with her father, who managed local bands. In elementary school, she learned to play trumpet and bass guitar, which led the way to songwriting in high school. At 16, Melissa was accepted into the New England Conservatory's Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble as a trumpet player, giving her the opportunity to tour with the Conservatory's Extension Division, which traveled to perform in California and China. She was accepted to Berklee College of Music on songwriting and trumpet scholarships and chose to continue her music education there from 1988-1990. After two years playing Boston's local rock club scene, Melissa left school and moved to New York City. In 1990, Melissa lived on 14th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, playing at the Bitter End weekly and working at Right Track Recording studios and Chrysalis Records to learn the ropes of the business. In July of 1991, Melissa's phone rang and she was asked to open that night for Morrissey in Boston on his Kill Uncle tour. She was invited to finish the U.S. dates with Morrissey and to continue on to the U.K. as his opening act. When she returned to the States, at 20 years old, she was offered deals with three major labels. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/stephanie7502/support

From headlining global sold out shows to stepping out of the limelight for 11 years and coming back stronger than ever... This weeks guest on The Road To Rock Podcast is singer, songwriter and FM frontman Steve Overland.Steve's journey in rock started in 1980 when he and his brother Chris formed the band Wildlife. They were quickly scouted and signed to Chrysalis Records to release their debut album, Burning. In 1983 they were signed to Led Zeppelin owned Swan Song Records where they released their follow up self titled album.Soon after, Swan Song Records folded and Wildlife split up.In the Summer of 1984 Steve, his brother Chris and former Wildlife member Pete Jupp joined forces with ex Diamondhead bassist Merv Goldsworthy to form FM.Joined by the keyboard talents of Didge Digital, they secured a recording contract by December of that year and they headed off to Germany for a run of tour dates with Meatloaf.FM's success went from supporting artists such as Bon Jovi, Tina Turner and Status Quo to selling out their own headline shows around the world.  In 1996 the FM members amicably agreed to take a break from touring and recording as grunge was starting to take over the rock music scene and they felt they'd reached their peak. It was a break that lasted 11 years. In 2007 FM were persuaded to reform for a one off gig, headlining Firefest at Nottingham's Rock City. That gig was that catalyst that led to FM reforming with a new lineup, getting back in the recording studio and heading out on the road for a second wave of FM fever that is still taking the world by storm today.A few weeks ago I caught up with Steve to hear his story about life in FM.He talks about the new artists he's been writing music with during the pandemic and he straightens out the facts in the controversy surrounding the song 'Shot In The Dark' ... Recorded and performed by Ozzy Osborne but originally written and performed by Steve in his Wildlife days ...  http://www.steveoverland.com/http://www.fmofficial.com/

La banda alcanzó el estrellato en 1990 con su primer álbum Stick It to Ya , que generó varios sencillos de éxito como " Up All Night ", "Spend My Life", "Mad About You" y "Fly to the Angels". ". # 19), y los éxitos moderados "Up All Night" (EE.UU. # 27) y "Spend My Life "(Estados Unidos # 39). UU. Blando estuvo anteriormente en Left For Dead y Saigon Kick .

What the Riff?!?

Patricia Mae Giraldo, better known as Pat Benatar, became one of the most prominent female rock stars when she made her debut in 1979.  Her most successful studio album was this second album, Crimes of Passion, which would benefit from play on rock stations around the country and the new music video media spearheaded by MTV.Benatar had actually abandoned early dreams of a singing career, choosing to pursue health (actually sex education) at Stony Brook University, rather than music at Juliard.  She dropped out of Stony Brook after a year, married Dennis Benatar, and worked as a bank teller in Virginia while he was stationed at Fort Lee.  Her interest in singing was rekindled after attending a Liza Minnelli concert.  She had some local success in Richmond and in New York where she and Dennis moved in the mid-70's, — but the real breakthrough would happen in Halloween 1977 when she performed in a spandex costume.  Shortly thereafter she was signed by Chrysalis Records.  She ended up divorcing Dennis Benatar thereafter, but would keep his last name as her professional name. While Pat Benatar achieved strong success on her debut album with the hit "Heartbreaker."  Crimes of Passion would make Benatar a household name.  The album would spend five consecutive weeks at number 2 on the album charts in January 1981, and would net Benatar a Grammy Award for "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance" of 1980.  Pat Benatar would appear on the cover of the October 1980 issue of Rolling Stone along with her guitarist and future husband, Neil Giraldo. We think you will enjoy this excellent album.  At least we will do our best to hit you with our best shot! Hit Me with Your Best ShotThis song is the second single off the album, but the biggest hit, and her first entry into the top 10.  The song was written by Canadian musician, songwriter, and producer Eddie Schwartz, inspired by a therapy session he participated in that involved hitting pillows.  This is a true rock anthem. Little ParadiseThis deeper cut leads off side two of the album, and was written by guitarist and soon-to-be husband of Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo.  To us, it feels a little more like Ted Nugent or southern rock.  You Better RunThe first single released from the album is a cover of a song originally performed by The Young Rascals.  Although this song missed the top 40 (peaking at number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100), it would become the second music video ever broadcast on MTV after the Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star."Hell Is for ChildrenThis emotional song was written by Benatar, Giraldo, and bassist Roger Capps and is Neil Giraldo's favorite song.  Pat Benatar was inspired to write this song by a  series in New York about abused children.  Later on Benatar and Giraldo would actually create foundation for abused children ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main theme from the television series “Cosmos”This popular PBS series premiered in September 1980, and would make Carl Sagan a household name. STAFF PICKS:“Introduction/Lola” by the KinksBrian's starts our staff picks off with a live version of the 1970's hit about an encounter between a young man and the cross-dressing Lola.  In the song the guy meets Lola in Soho, London, but the inspiration was a result of Kinks manager Robert Wace spent an evening in Paris dancing with a cross-dresser.  “Games Without Frontiers” by Peter GabrielWayne's staff pick takes its name from a European TV show, "Jeus Sans Frontieres" where people from different places would play games of skill while wearing strange costumes.  The British version of this game show was called "It's a Knockout," and that title also makes it into the song.  The song's lyrics are a commentary on war and negotiations between countries being like children on a playground.  Kate Bush contributes backing vocals in this song.“The Legend of Wooley Swamp” by the Charlie Daniels BandBruce takes us on a spooky trip to the Wooley Swamp where the ghost of miser Lucious Clay torments the spirits of his killers, the Cable Boys.  Today Wooley Swamp is the name of a farm campground and RV park near Raleigh.“Turn It On Again” by GenesisRob finishes off our staff picks with the first single off Genesis' album "Duke," written by band member Mike Rutherford.  It is about a man who doesn't do anything but watch TV, and begins to think of the TV personalities as his friends.  The song has a complex time signature, with much of the song in 13/8.     INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:"Dinorah, Dinorah" by George BensonWe're turning to a jazz instrumental by R&B and Jazz artist George Benson to finish off this week's podcast.  It was off his 1980 album, "Give Me the Night."

RockerMike and Rob discuss the history of Generation X. Although not as well as known as some of their peers (the Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Damned, etc.), first wave U.K. punk rockers Generation X burst onto the scene at the same time as the others. And while they enjoyed some moderate success in their homeland, Generation X would become better-known as the launching pad for their singer, Billy Idol, who would go on to achieve great commercial success come the '80s. Originally formed in 1976, Generation X (which was named after a book that focused on battles between the Mods and the Rockers during the '60s) was comprised of guitarist Bob Andrews, bassist Tony James, drummer Mark Laff, and fronted by Idol. The group was eventually signed up by Chrysalis Records, resulting in a self-titled debut album in 1978 (the U.S. and U.K. versions contained different track listings), as Generation X became one of the first punk bands to appear on the popular British TV music program Top of the Pops. Generation X were an English punk rock band from London in the late 1970s, primarily remembered today for being the musical starting point of the career of its frontman/vocalist, Billy Idol. The Mighty Lemon Drops with David Newton in conversation with David Eastaugh Originally called the Sherbet Monsters, the quartet first formed in the spring of 1985 in Wolverhampton, in The Black Country. Paul Marsh, Dave Newton and Tony Linehan had played together in a band called Active Restraint in 1982, with Newton later leaving to become a founding member of the Wild Flowers. Dave Newton and Tony Linehan were the principal songwriters for the group. Their sound can best be described as a more psychedelia-influenced post-punk, played with a ringing Rickenbacker guitar as the lead instrument. They drew comparisons to Echo and the Bunnymen, who were also influenced by psychedelia. After losing original drummer Martin Gilks (later to join the Wonder Stuff), the Drops line-up settled as Paul Marsh (vocals), David Newton (guitar), Tony Linehan (bass), and Keith Rowley (drums). In December 1985 the quartet, now officially the Mighty Lemon Drops, released their first independent single "Like an Angel", on Daniel Treacy of Television Personalities' Dreamworld Records label which went to the top of the UK Indie Chart and sold 14,000 copies. They also recorded a session for John Peel around the same time. Becoming part of the C86 movement, which was championed by the New Musical Express, they were soon snapped up by Geoff Travis of Rough Trade for his new Blue Guitar label, a subsidiary of Chrysalis Records. They signed with Sire Records for the United States and Canada around the same period. Derek Jarman produced the video for the "Out of Hand" single in 1987 which was followed by their hit "Inside Out" in 1988.

Go West special with Richard Drummie in conversation with David Eastaugh   In 1982, Cox and Drummie formed the band Go West, with Cox as lead singer and Drummie on guitar and backing vocals. Go West had a publishing deal and possessed a portastudio, but lacked a band or recording company. Cox and Drummie decided, with support from John Glover, their manager, to find a musical producer, and record just two of their songs. The tracks "We Close Our Eyes" and "Call Me" found Go West landing a recording contract with Chrysalis Records.

I Was Dead for 7 Weeks in the City of Angels. En 2013, además, reeditan su disco "Devil Came to Me", llamado "Dover Came to Me", en diferentes formatos.

A songwriter with a back catalog of more than 100 songs and more than 45 million records sold, he has worked with some of the greatest artists in the music industry, including Rick Derringer, Pat Benatar, John Waite, Kenny Loggins, Steve Forbert, The Del Lords, and Beth Hart. His work has produced many Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning hits, and he holds the distinction of being the first guitar player appearing on MTV. Today, he continues to expand his creative portfolio: in addition to writing new songs for stage and screen, he is writing screenplays for feature films, touring, and reaching out into the community to work with musicians young and old. Giraldo began his professional career in 1978 as a key member of the Rick Derringer band after competing against 200 other guitarists for the position. It wasn't long before Rick discovered Giraldo's piano playing prowess and quickly put those skills to work in the studio for the recording of Guitars and Women. In the spring of 1979, Mike Chapman introduced Giraldo to an up-and coming singer named Pat Benatar who had recently signed to Chrysalis Records. While impressed with the young vocalist, Chapman felt she needed a musical partner who could facilitate the creation of a sound both identifiable and powerful. Over the years Neil has produced some of their biggest hits, including "Love is a Battlefield" and "We Belong." With a back catalog of more than 100 songs written and more than 45 million records sold, Giraldo has written, produced, arranged, and recorded for Pat Benatar, John Waite, Rick Springfield, Kenny Loggins, Steve Forbert, The Del Lords, Beth Hart, The Coors, and others, which included many Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning hits. Neil was born in 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio. Immersed in the culture of his beloved Sicilian ancestry, his parents Anthony and Angela instilled the love of music at a young age, giving Neil his first guitar at the age of six, with the hopes that he and his sister, Priscilla, who played the accordion, could entertain family and friends with songs from the old country after church on Sundays. As Neil got older, his mentor, Uncle Tim, introduced him to revolutionary bands like The Yardbirds, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, and all the other great guitar-driven rock 'n' roll bands of the 1960s. Finding new and innovative ways to shadow path his way into songs, Neil developed a discipline early on of not just playing along to his favorite artists, but creating different parts for himself within those tracks. At the same time, the budding guitar artist also became proficient on piano by continuously practicing along to Chuck Berry (Johnnie Johnson), Fats Domino, and Jerry Lee Lewis records. His interest in percussion instruments soon followed; practicing the drums to Simon & Garfunkel albums, he explored how different rhythms could alter the complexion of songs. These practices and disciplines created the basis for his future success as an innovative record producer and musician. Dolly Mixture special with Debsey Wykes talking about life in music with David Eastaugh  The group was formed in Cambridge, England, by Bor, Smith, and Wykes, three school friends who shared a fondness for The Shangri-Las and The Undertones. Dolly Mixture supported The Undertones on one of their first UK tours. The band also played venues with The Fall and The Transmitters in 1979. They were once supported by U2. In Autumn 1981, they toured as the featured support band for Bad Manners on their Gosh It's tour and were well received by the second wave mod/ska audience that filled various theatres and venues up and down the land. Relocating to London to gig extensively, national BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel gave them exposure on his radio show and in his weekly column in the UK pop paper, Sounds. Signed to Chrysalis Records, the group released a cover of the Shirelles hit, "Baby It's You" (1980), produced by Eric Faulkner of the Bay City Rollers. However, the cover version was disowned by the group, which protested the label's attempt to sell them as a teen girl group. Their next single, "Been Teen" (1981), was the first single released on Paul Weller's Respond label. It was followed by "Everything And More" (1982), also released on Respond. Both singles were produced by Captain Sensible and Paul Gray of The Damned. They became friends with Sensible and recorded backing vocals on his singles and albums. After Sensible had a hit with "Happy Talk" in 1982 (featuring Dolly Mixture, credited as "Dolly Mixtures" on the single, and also in the song's video) and following various appearances on the television show Top of the Pops, Dolly Mixture – as a separate entity from Captain Sensible – performed extensively.

It's 1975, it's fancy central London and at Moorgate Underground Station a load of miserable commuters are waiting to catch the worst tube journey since Phil Lucas passed his kidney stones.  In what vastly overpaid tube drivers are already complaining to their union is the 29th episode of the CB Wallop Podcast, Join Phil Jerrod and Phil Lucas as they discuss The Moorgate Tube Crash - the weird and mysterious tale of how a perfectly healthy man, on a perfectly normal morning, drove his perfectly maintained train into a very big wall.  Was he startled by a pesky ghost? ... no.. no he wasn't.  Trigger Warning: This one's proper carnage. If you're scared of the tube this isn't going to help at all. There is lots of claustrophobia, lots of crushing, some amputations and one very, very scary ghost story. Dolly Mixture special with Rachel Lowell in conversation with David Eastaugh  Dolly Mixture were an English band formed in 1978 by bassist and vocalist Debsey Wykes, guitarist and vocalist Rachel Bor and drummer Hester Smith. They had a taste of Top 40 success performing backing vocals for the Captain Sensible hit "Wot", a Top 10 hit with Sensible on "Glad It's All Over", and a UK No. 1 hit backing Sensible on his 1982 cover of "Happy Talk". Rachel Bor also featured on the Animus/Loose Records single "Wot NO Meat?" also by Captain Sensible in 1985. Rachel and Debsey performed together on 24 April 2013 at the Islington Assembly Hall in London. The group was formed in Cambridge by Bor, Smith, and Wykes, three school friends who shared a fondness for The Shangri-Las and The Undertones. Dolly Mixture supported The Undertones on one of their first UK tours. The band also played venues with The Fall and The Transmitters in 1979. They were once supported by U2. In 1983, the band released a double album called the "Demonstration Tapes" on their own Dead Good Dolly Platters label. The album sported a plain white cover and each copy was numbered and authentically autographed by the group members. Only one thousand copies were pressed. The album featured 27 demo tracks which covered a large part of the band's repertoire. The same year saw a release of the "Remember This" single, again on Dead Good Dolly Platters label. The B-side was a piece entitled "Listening Pleasure/Borinda's Lament", which included dialogue (à la Home Service British Force's Radio DJ), a half-finished song and an instrumental chamber piece with Wykes on piano and Bor on cello. The 12-inch vinyl Fireside EP was released in 1984 on Cordelia Records, owned by Alan Jenkins, a member of The Deep Freeze Mice. The six-track EP represented the band's new artistic direction and contained mostly instrumental pieces, abandoning the guitar/bass/drum format. The most recognisable track was "Dolly Medley", containing highlights of the Dolly's repertoire, including the previously unreleased "Dead Rainbow", all done in a chamber music style. It was produced by Dolly Mixture and Andrew Fryer.

I mean, there’s good action and a darker, tougher James Bond, but there’s something so inescapably mediocre about this very boilerplate 80’s action film. Maybe it’s the fact that there’s so many similar plot points to On Her Majesty’s Secret Service that this movie would’ve gotten sent to the principal’s office for cheating in high school. Or maybe it’s the fact that this was supposed to be Roger Moore’s final Bond film and so many younger Bonds could have taken this movie and run with it. This one’s a mess, and not in the fun way. Musik i podden: Kanye West - Runaway, Roc-A-Fella, Universal. Chesney Hawkes – The One and Only, Chrysalis Records. After the great response we received from Part 3 of our Vinnie Vincent special with special guest Robert Fleischman, we decided to round things off with Part 4 this week. First up is Chris' conversation with Hirsh Gardner. Hirsh is most well-known as the drummer for late 70's band New England. New England's first album was produced by KISS' Paul Stanley and the band opened for KISS on their 1979 Dynasty tour. What many people may not know is that Hirsh was creatively involved with Vinnie Vincent in projects that predate his involvement with KISS as well as the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Hirsh Gardner 1980 In this discussion, Hirsh recounts his memories of being introduced to Vinnie through Gene Simmons, demo sessions with Vinnie on some songs that wound up later being used by Invasion as well as KISS, his admiration for Vinnie's underrated vocal ability, and his memory of Vinnie telling him that he was offered the lead guitarist slot in KISS. Hirsh also shares his memories of reconnecting with Vinnie during a KISS tour stop in Boston which sparked another musical collaboration when things went sour between Vincent and Simmons & Stanley. This collaboration came to a sudden halt when Vinnie, according to Hirsh, uprooted the project and jetted back to Los Angeles to form what became known as the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Hirsh also recounts the legal steps he took in trying to get what he felt he deserved which included having the Invasion's equipment seized before a show in Boston. Hirsh Gardner Today Through all of the drama, Hirsh seems to still have good memories of working Vincent on a creative level and his stories were very interesting to us, as fans. You can keep up with Hirsh at is official website of www.hirshgardner.com. Up next is a brief discussion with Tom Silver. Tom was a National Marketing Representative for Chrysalis Records in the 1980's while Vinnie Vincent Invasion was on its roster. In this conversation, Tom remembers his experiences of working with the members of Invasion, albeit limited. Tom Silver (far right) w/Vinnie Vincent & Dama Strum There have been rumors for decades about conflict between the Invasion and Chrysalis Records during this period and no one from the record company has publicly spoken about it. We ask Tom for his take on the theories that Chrysalis was showing favoritism of Mark Slaughter and attempting to squeeze Vinnie out of the band during the promotion for All Systems Go. Tom Silver Today Tom also shares his memories of working with Slaughter as they formed from the ashes of the Invasion. Tom is now a certified hypnotherapist and has appeared on many major network television shows. More information on Tom Silver can be found at www.tomsilver.com. This will, more than likely, be the final installment of the Vinnie Vincent Special. For a full explanation of this decision, please check out the Humanity Wins Out blog post that is available on the official Decibel Geek website.
