Join Jim Boardman and Jay Reid as they soak in the incredible atmosphere enveloping the city of Liverpool ahead of a monumental Bank Holiday weekend. The city is buzzing with events, from Radio One's Big Weekend to cruise liners docking, but most important of all it's the final game of the season - a formality to go through before that long-awaited trophy lift, ahead of the victory parade through the city's streets on Monday. For Jay, that trophy lift is an especially poignant moment; it's the first time in his lifetime he'll witness Liverpool lift the league trophy at Anfield – a ticket he wouldn't sell for any price. It's the first time the Reds have lifted the league trophy in front of fans at Anfield for 35 years, so a large chunk of the Liverpool support are in the same boat. Two of the greatest centre-backs in football history will be on the pitch as the trophy gets lifted, with true club legend Alan Hansen set to present the trophy to future club legend Virgil Van Dijk, adding to the symbolism of the occasion. Jurgen Klopp will be there too, keeping to his promise of coming back but not in a way that would interfere with the work of Arne Slot. No surprise he's there; he's as big a fan as any of us, and every fan wants to be there. If only - but Anfield, as big as it now is, can't possibly contain every Red who wants to be there on Sunday. In fact, if estimates of how many people are heading into the city for the weekend are true, 16 Anfields wouldn't be enough. No problem though; the city is ready to showcase its unique, welcoming spirit and show how it throws a party, as the Reds' heroes show that trophy off from the top of a bus! The last match itself sees Liverpool host Crystal Palace. With both teams in a celebratory mood (Palace fresh from their own FA Cup triumph), Jay and Jim are wondering if it's even worth bothering with the footy itself. Jim and Jay reflect on a season where Liverpool exceeded expectations to clinch that title, but with transfer windows set to open, work needs to be done to ensure new expectations are met. No Red expected Slot to be so successful so soon - but all Reds want more of the same. The hosts briefly discuss some of the transfer rumours swirling around potential incomings like Frimpong and Kerkez, and possible departures including the respected Joe Gomez and potentially Darwin Nunez. Since the show was recorded, rumours about Florian Wirtz leaving Germany for Merseyside have gathered pace, but until he's had his photo holding up his new shirt, Jay and Jim are assuming nothing. There's also discussion on manager Arne Slot's latest press conference, particularly his comments on Trent Alexander-Arnold's training and defensive application, and how the media has portrayed this. The hosts touch on how Trent might be received and the importance of focusing on the collective celebration. What advice would the hosts give Arne, if he asked, on how to handle this last bit with Trent? As for that victory parade, the hosts offer some tips for fans wanting to catch a glimpse of the champions. It's a time to savour the moment, celebrate a hard-won title, and look forward to what the future holds for the Reds. As always, there's plenty to laugh about from across the park, although you aren't likely to find any of them there as the A55 clogs up under the weight of a blue-tinged exodus to North Wales. Sunday will also mark the final match for George Sephton, the iconic 'Voice of Anfield'. His voice has boomed around Anfield for decades, since the days the Reds were winning titles almost every season. He really is and has been part of Anfield - he's been there for the good times and the bad, and it really won't be the same without him. Thanks for everything, George, from all of us. Welcome to the podcast with Dr. Brendan McCarthy! In this episode we dive deep into one of the most misunderstood and debated topics in hormone health: testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for women. You may have heard horror stories—or glowing reviews. But what's the truth? Dr. McCarthy discusses: - Why testosterone matters for women's health - How it affects brain chemistry, mood, bone density, and even breast tissue - Its role after estrogen-suppressing breast cancer treatments - The difference between safe and unsafe TRT - What your provider should be doing to monitor and manage it effectively Dr. Brendan McCarthy founded Protea Medical Center in 2002. While he's been the chief medical officer, Protea has grown and evolved into a dynamic medical center serving the Valley and Central Arizona. A nationally recognized as an expert in hormone replacement therapy, Dr McCarthy s the only instructor in the nation who teaches BioHRT on live patients.

It's time for The Truth!Today, Sam and Dougie are looking at the Premier League, and the argument that's been raging on social media as to whether this is a Premier League cast that's strong or weak? On one side, you have the earliest that three teams have been confirmed as relegated in Premier League history, as well as Champions in Liverpool who were crowned in April - but realistically haven't lost control since November. Plus, two traditional powerhouses in Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have languished at the bottom, whilst City's title defence never really got going. A lack of jeopardy, perhaps - but what does that say about the strength of the rest?On the other hand, there's a stronger than ever middle class in the Premier League, able to take points off the big boys on a regular basis. Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham are still scrapping for the final European spot, and each of them have had big name scalps, and possess certain players that their mid-table counterparts in some of the European leagues could only dream of. Surely that suggests this is a stronger class than ever before, especially with 12th-placed Crystal Palace making their way to Wembley for an FA Cup final? Well, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

In 1968, Mao Zedong launched the Cultural Revolution, asserting his control of China 15 years later, Deng Xiaoping launched the reform and opening up period, putting China on the path to becoming an economic powerhouse. But what happens in between these two critical periods of Chinese history? How does China go from Mao's Cultural Revolution to Deng's embrace of reforms? Odd Arne Westad and Chen Jian together fill in this history in The Great Transformation: China's Road from Revolution to Reform (Yale University Press: 2024) Odd Arne Westad is the Elihu Professor of History and Global Affairs at Yale University. Handelsvertreter Heroes - Heldengeschichten aus dem B2B-Vertrieb
Only recently have I become fully aware of the exceptional voice and artistry of the late April Cantelo (02 April 1928 -16 July 2024). When she died last summer, I began more fully exploring her recorded output and to my surprise and delight, I found myself ranking her among the very finest 20th century British sopranos. It's my great privilege to offer a full episode showing the wide range of musical genres that she effortlessly assayed. If her performances of Handel seemed near-definitive, it must also be remembered that she created the role of Helena in Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream in the summer of 1960 and championed the work of countless contemporary composers, including two heard here, Hugh Wood, and Malcolm Williamson, with whose works in particular she was closely associated. She is also featured in recordings of Grieg, Berlioz, Arne, and Wagner. Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and journalist yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. Arne Slot, who took over as manager of Liverpool FC from Jurgen Klopp last summer, has had a remarkable year. His club is about to win the Premier League title - a big achievement for a manager in their first season at Anfield. Slot arrived at Liverpool after three highly successful campaigns with the Dutch side Feyenoord, and was named manager of the year on two occasions. He had a hard act to follow from Klopp who was loved by fans - he won the League Cup twice, the FA Cup, the Champions League and the Premier League. So who is Arne Slot? Niall Paterson speaks to Sky News sports correspondent Rob Harris and Rob McDonald who was Slot's first coach. Producer: Natalie Ktena Editor: Philly Beaumont

Doug McHoney (PwC's International Tax Services Global Leader) is joined by Arne Schnitger, a Berlin-based International Tax Partner at PwC Germany and co-host of the German-language tax podcast “Frisch Serviert.” Arne previously served in the German Ministry of Finance and brings deep insight into both domestic and cross-border policy developments. Doug and Arne discuss Germany's evolving corporate tax landscape, including potential rate reductions, simplification initiatives, and the implications of recent coalition negotiations. They dive into Germany's controlled foreign corporation (CFC) regime, explore the mechanics of the constitutional ‘German debt brake,' and unpack recent developments surrounding Pillar Two. The conversation highlights the intersection of German and US tax policy, the ongoing tension between multilateralism and unilateral measures, and the administrative and technical challenges multinationals face under the global minimum tax framework. They also examine prospects for EU-level simplification and the future of long-standing anti-avoidance measures in light of Pillar Two implementation.
4-22-25 Tonight we're talking with Arne Defurne, owner and head meadmaker of Clockwork Bee Mead in Antwerp, Belgium. Arne has a nano-meadery that is growing, and makes some pretty ‘ok' mead, producing mostly dry and off-dry meads, which is uncommon. We will dig into this and see what Arne is up to over there. Back in 2019, Arne came to the 2 first European meadmakers conferences and at the end of the second one was told to bring his own mead next time. Little did they know he had started making first batch right before leaving for EMMAcon. Arne is one of the people behind European meadmakers Association and worked on the just launched realmead certification program in Europe. It was 2019 and Arne did not have a pico meadery but a shower meadery (see photo to the right). He had a separate spare shower where he installed a rack where all fermentation was done. In 2020 he entered in the Mead Madness Cup home competition in Poland, but due to covid EMMcon was canceled and the Mead Madness Cup was an online medal ceremony and Arne won 2 gold medals. From then on the hobby became too expensive (he made more than 15 different meads in 1 year) and he started as a gypsy meadery at the Blacksmith's Meadery. From a mead enthusiast to home meadmaking spiraling out of control, and two years ago launching the first Belgian gypsy meadery under the guidance of the Blacksmith's Meadery. Driven by a passion for intricate flavor combinations, Arne's goal is to reintroduce this ancient beverage to modern audiences with a fresh twist. As a mead maker, he focuses on crafting what he loves to drink. He's deeply intrigued by how different flavors interact and how to blend them effectively. This curiosity leads him to explore methods that allows him to elegantly and fully integrate these flavor profiles into his meads. As a result, his products are uniquely positioned as semi-dry and dry meads, setting them apart from the more typical sweeter options. As a certified Belgian craft producer, Arne uses only the finest local ingredients and honey sourced from controlled European origins, resulting in high-quality meads that have already earned several awards. In 1981, a 19 year old named Arne Johnson killed his landlord in a brutal stabbing. When police arrived to the scene, Arne was still there and said he had no memory of the attack. He claimed the devil made him do it. Would a judge allow such a defense? Can this even happen? This one is wild!
What happens when machines get smarter… and leaders forget to stay human? In this thought-provoking episode, Arne Kittler unpacks the seismic shift AI is bringing to product management—and why empathy, curiosity, and trust are more crucial than ever. We get real about the risks of blindly chasing efficiency, the messy reality of integrating AI tools, and how today's product leaders can future-proof their teams without becoming robots themselves. BONUS: Beyond Individual Talent: 2 Leadership Myths We all Believed in with Arne Roock In this BONUS episode, we delve into the complexities of team effectiveness with Arne Roock, an experienced Agile consultant who has worked with organizations ranging from startups to large corporations. Arne shares his insights on what truly makes teams perform at their highest level, why simply assembling talented individuals isn't enough, and how organizations can move beyond the "feature factory" mindset to focus on outcomes and impact. The Myth of Individual Talent in Teams "A team of experts is not an expert team." Arne breaks down the common misconception that placing highly talented individuals together automatically creates a high-performing team. Drawing parallels from sports, he points to examples like the "Red Army" hockey team and the famous "Miracle on Ice," where team cohesion proved more valuable than individual star power. Through his consulting work, Arne observed that quick-fix workshops often produced short-term improvements but failed to create lasting change. Sometimes, teams even deteriorated after temporary interventions. This led him to Richard Hackman's work on team effectiveness, particularly the 60-30-10 rule: leaders should spend 60% of their time designing teams, 30% launching teams, and only 10% on coaching interventions. Coaching alone cannot change a team's trajectory without proper design and launch Leaders should engage with coaches at the beginning of team formation Teams need sufficient stability to achieve meaningful impact Existing teams can be relaunched or redesigned to improve performance In this segment, wer refer to Richard Hackman's 6 conditions for effective teams, and to Margaret Heffernan's Superchicken Paradox Ted Talk, and to the episode with Heidi Helfand about Re-teaming. Balancing Delivery Focus with Team Development "Organizations trends go in waves." Arne discusses the pendulum swing in organizational approaches, noting how Agile emerged as a countermovement to process-centric methodologies. Currently, he observes a strong emphasis on delivery, with many organizations repositioning Scrum Masters as delivery leads. This trend, while addressing immediate business needs, often undermines the fundamental team-building aspects of the Scrum Master role. Arne suggests that we need to find balance between delivery pressure and people-centered approaches, treating these as polarities to manage rather than problems to solve. In this segment, we refer to the book Polarity Management by Barry Johnson, and to Arne's blog post about cross-functional teams. Moving Beyond the Feature Factory "Delivery manager will undermine team responsibility." When organizations want to shift from deadline-driven development to outcome-focused work, Arne recommends examining team design fundamentals first. He cautions that adding delivery managers won't fix teams that haven't been properly designed and launched. Most organizations operate as "feature factories," focusing on output rather than outcomes. Arne suggests two high-impact practices that can help teams deliver more value: Implementing meaningful sprint goals and effective sprint reviews Using OKRs with specific checks on value delivered, not just features completed Arne emphasizes that the Scrum Master role is a full-time position, and when they're pushed to prioritize delivery management, important team-building work gets neglected. Proper team design creates the foundation for shared delivery ownership without requiring additional management roles. In this segment, we talk about an article that explains how to use OKR's with a “value-check” included. About Arne Roock Arne works as a consultant for Agile methods and (leadership) team effectiveness. As a trainer and coach he supported both startups and big corporations in different industries. For the past ten years he took a deep dive into the tech industry as an embedded coach with Jimdo and Spotify. You can link with Arne Roock on LinkedIn and connect with Arne Roock on Mastodon.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday to officially start shutting down the Department of Education. The thing is... he can't do that, at least not unilaterally. Shutting down the Education Department will require an act of Congress. But the Trump administration has already done a pretty thorough job of gutting the department from the inside, cutting the DOE's staff in half earlier this month. Arne Duncan, who served as education secretary under President Barack Obama, talks about the potential catastrophes on the horizon. And in headlines: Maryland Congressman Glenn Ivey became the first sitting Democrat to call on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to step down, a federal judge blocked the Department of Government Efficiency from accessing personal information on the Social Security Administration's data systems, and the United Kingdom and Germany issued travel warnings for the U.S.Show Notes:Check out Arne's work with gun violence –chicagocred.org/team/arne-duncan/Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8Support victims of the fire – votesaveamerica.com/reliefWhat A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

Hello Rank Squad! In a bit of a break from tradition, and after witnessing an absorbing encounter between Liverpool and PSG at Anfield, we decided this week might be a good one to switch things up and discuss the thing everyone will be discussing come Wednesday morning - the action from the Champions League, so this is the first of two UCL Takeaway episodes that will be with you this week. We start on Merseyside, where football reminded us it's a funny old game. Liverpool were outmatched in Paris last Wednesday, but came away with a 1-0 win against PSG; but on a night where they gave a far better account of themselves at home, they ended up losing the game 1-0 and being knocked out on penalties. Work that one out. We give PSG their due for a mighty performance over two legs, and discuss just how far this very talented side could go in this competition, as well as looking at what Liverpool might have done differently, and where the squad might need to be strengthened to push forwards again next season. Then in Part Two, we move over to the rest of the action, dissecting Barcelona's 3-1 win over Benfica where Lamine Yamal and Raphinha set some more records, as well as Pedri's astounding performance in the heart of midfield. We touch on Bayern, who Dean correctly backed in our power ranking episode, and how Leverkusen melted in the heat of the knockout stages; and finish with Inter, who made light work of Feyenoord even with a heavily rotated squad, and who are ticking along nicely in this competition. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
In the latest episode of Liberty and Learning, Mark Levin and Dr. Larry Arnn engage in a captivating discussion about the role of federal district judges and their impact on the executive branch. As the conversation unfolds, they explore the historical context of judicial power, the implications of overreach by judges, and the urgent need for Congress to take action to restore balance within the government. Levin and Arnn begin by discussing how federal judges are created by Congress and the limitations of their authority. They highlight the importance of the separation of powers, a fundamental principle that ensures no single branch of government can dominate the others. This principle is crucial for maintaining the rule of law and protecting the rights of citizens. One of the key points raised is the alarming trend of federal judges making nationwide rulings that disrupt the functioning of the executive branch. Levin and Arnn argue that this overreach not only violates the common sense understanding of judicial authority but also undermines the very foundation of our constitutional system. They emphasize that judges should only decide cases that directly involve the parties before them, rather than issuing sweeping injunctions that affect the entire nation. As the conversation progresses, the duo delves into the role of Congress in addressing judicial overreach. They stress that Congress has the power to legislate and could easily pass laws to limit the authority of district judges. This is a crucial point, as it highlights the responsibility of elected officials to uphold the Constitution and ensure that the government operates within its designated boundaries. The discussion also touches on the historical significance of the Dred Scott decision, which serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of judicial overreach. Levin and Arne draw parallels between past and present, suggesting that we are at a critical juncture in history where the balance of power is being tested once again. Liberty and Learning with Mark Levin and Larry Arnn is a 10-part series, hosted by veteran broadcaster and constitutional law expert, Mark Levin, and his good friend, Dr. Larry Arnn, President of Hillsdale College, dives deep into the founding principles of the U.S., as Americans face both crisis and opportunity. Levin and Arnn take listeners on a journey forward, as they unpack the country's basic foundations and the self-government they require. Mark Levin and Dr. Arnn bring their knowledge and wisdom to bear in a candid conversation between lifelong friends on today's latest news events. They will touch on the points of crisis in America, addressing each in light of our constitutional government, and tackling the pressing issues of our time to see how they fit into the grand tapestry of American history. The discussion will delve deep into the issues at the forefront of our nation's concerns, like education, borders, citizenship, separation of powers, state and local government, and much more. (The Devil Made Him Do It) *** A tribe living in the Amazon Jungle tells about a strange encounter they had with an extraterrestrial and a strange beam of light. (That Time An Alien Visited the Kayapo People) *** An elderly man decides he needs to hire someone to help him care for his property… but who he chose would bring only death and a mystery that still goes unsolved. (The Wonnangatta Station Murders) *** Lizard people. Reptilians. It's one of the strangest and most controversial conspiracy theories in existence – and we'll look at some of the history behind the idea, as well as what science says about the possibility of it being a reality. (The Myths and Modern Science of Reptilians) *** A nun who wasn't very good at being a nun ended up being a nun without a head. (The Headless Nun of Watton Priory) *** We've all been asked the question, “How do you want to die when it comes your time?” Aside from the boring but realistic answer of “quietly in my sleep” some would prefer to go out in a blaze of glory, doing something heroic to save a person or persons from imminent doom. But of course that does not happen for most of us. In fact, there are probably more people going out in a blaze of stupidity! (Dumbest Deaths) *** In 1995 Mike Marcum got it in his head to build a time machine. Did he succeed? We may never know – because he disappeared without a trace.
