Described by Everton's most-successful manager Howard Kendall as the Blues' most-important signing since the Second World War, Peter Reid joins Chris Beesley for the latest episode of Goodison Park: My Home. Reid first played at ‘The Grand Old Lady' when he was just 14 years old for Huyton schoolboys but back then he was a Liverpool fan. The midfielder underwent an emphatic conversion though following his transfer from Bolton Wanderers to Everton in 1982 and having helped the Blues lift the FA Cup in 1984, he was voted PFA Players' Player of the Year by his fellow professionals in 1984/85 as the club enjoyed their best-ever season, winning the League Championship with five games to spare plus the European Cup-Winners' Cup. After suffering the heartbreak of finishing runners-up to Liverpool in both the League and FA Cup the following year – refusing to take part in the joint open top bus parade after the Wembley final between the two local rivals – Reid and his team-mates would bounce back from injury and adversity to secure another title in 1986/87 before Kendall departed. Reid recalls Everton's glory days plus banter with team-mates and fans with his typical sense of humour in what is a fun-filled chat, although he almost spills coffee all over the studio when Chris asks him about an amusing incident in an FA Cup semi-final. Also, ahead of Mothers' Day, there is poignancy as the 68-year-old recalls the emotional scenes when his lifelong Evertonian mum was captured on camera, celebrating the 1985 League Championship success at Goodison Park. Martin Dobson, English football's first £300,000 player, joins Chris Beesley as the latest guest on Goodison Park: My Home to relive Everton matters from the 1970s. The 77-year-old, who has penned his own autobiography Dobo: For Club and Country, tells the story of how he went from being released by Bolton Wanderers as a teenager to an England international with Burnley and his record-breaking transfer to the Blues in 1974. The classy midfielder has a treasure trove of tails from an era when Everton had several near-misses: in the title race in Dobson's first season, in an epic three-game League Cup final against Aston Villa and a notorious FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool when they were denied a Wembley trip by referee Clive Thomas' controversial decision. There are also plenty of more-enjoyable moments though as Dobo recalls captaining the Blues to victory in the ‘Andy King' Merseyside Derby, the 6-0 romp against Chelsea when Bob Latchford reached 30 goals for the season and another Goodison game against the west London side when his pal Duncan McKenzie scored for the opposition only for the home crowd to applaud. Alan Stubbs, the captain who led Everton to fourth place in 2004/05 – their highest ever Premier League position – is the latest guest on Goodison Park: My Home. A lifelong Evertonian from Kirkby, Stubbs was a passionate match-going Blues supporter as a youngster and was also on the club's books as a boy, but his professional career started down the East Lancs Road with Bolton Wanderers. The former centre-half recalls his breakthrough spell with the Trotters, an attempt by Everton to sign him – that he didn't know about until years later – his big move to Celtic, including some poignant revelations about his cancer battles, and finally getting the chance to join his beloved Blues in his 30th year. Stubbs enjoyed two separate spells at Goodison Park, regretting the circumstances which prompted him to quit in between, while he also lifts the lid on some of the great characters he played alongside, such as Paul Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney, as well as offering a candid take on David Moyes' evolving managerial methods. Monzo – the bank that Steve and Steve have owned for what seems like ages – has been making noises about going public. But will it list in London, or in the US? A lot of UK companies have been listing in the States recently, but Steve D is hoping for a London IPO. Is this one for the AIM or the main market? J.D. Wetherspoon's has released its latest trading update and Steve W thinks it's… fine. Like-for-like sales growth is decent enough, but only really in line with the industry. The company has no realistic price competition from its rivals, but supermarkets are the big challenge. So how will the firm cope with higher tax and NI contributions? From the AIM, Steve D's investment in Ashtead Technology is starting to pay off. But nobody on our show is quite sure why. Revenues are set to come in marginally ahead of expectations, with EBITA (no D) up. Surely that's not enough to set the stock off, though… is it? We haven't talked about FTSE 250 dividend aristocrat Spectris on the show before – but that might have been a mistake. The stock has been bouncing back off its lows recently. It's in the precision measurement space and Steve D knows it from work. But Steve W has concerns over the impact of weak demand from China and its implications for profits. Prologis is still the biggest publicly-listed real estate investment trust (REIT) – we checked. It's heavily exposed to some promising trends that are emerging, but it's cheap right now. With a lower cost of capital than its rivals, the firm is well-positioned to make it through a period of normalising demand. So could it be one for either Steve to buy right now? Steve W has been looking at the latest results from Associated British Foods. It's underwhelming across the board, but especially when it comes to Primark. Despite this, the stock looks cheap right now. And it might be that the retailer's results – disappointing as they are – could justify the entire market cap by itself… We're always interested in Netflix on this show. And Steve D has been looking at a very impressive performance from the world's leading streaming platform. Revenue growth has been picking up and margins are widening, greeting great unit economics. And with its competitive position getting stronger, is it too late to buy the stock? Only on this week's PlayingFTSE Podcast! ► Support the show: Appreciate the show and want to offer your support? Liverpool and Arsenal are all right though. The Red breezed past struggling West Ham at Anfield and a team full of teenagers did the business against League One's Bolton Wanderers at The Emirates.
