Digital Health Talks - Changemakers Focused on Fixing Healthcare
As Health Systems expand through acquisition and development, scaling clinical teams becomes increasingly difficult. MUSC Health System has bought twelve new hospitals across the state. It uses technology like Virtual Cockpit and Rad Companion to virtually scan across the state to create efficiencies in its clinical workforce. While the technology is in place, it is also important to have a deep pipeline of clinicians, so they have partnered with the city of Charleston and the Charleston County School board to fund six graduates each year to a local college for full-ride scholarships to medical programs like a lab, rad tech, pharmacy, and medical assistants and nursing. Join us for a deep dive into these programs with Ron McKee, System Administrative Office for MUSC Health.

From Mitch’s Notebook about the episode “As with some other guests, Erin Kinard is one who I have known personally, at least since the two years of living here in Weaverville. While I did know her for her singing as she has been a regular at Blue mountain here with just her and her guitar, and I did know her to possess both a truly beautiful voice and gift for songwriting there was much more. I did not know until later that she is the president of Girls Rock in North Carolina, is an instrument maker, plays drums, has her own rock duo Rooster, and probably a whole bunch of other things we never got a chance to even get to on this particular episode. We played together on a couple of the selections. I always enjoy the opportunity to really accompany someone and try and match their style the best that I can, particular when it is in a style of music that I don't often get to perform. True to the spirit of our podcast, Erin Kinard is somebody who does many kinds of things in music, never content to be pigeonholed or stick with one genre. Much like my episode with Bill Fouty, this one where we talked a bit about the nature of music making itself as an art and craft as well as play some numbers. I hope it is as enjoyable to listen to as it was for us to record it.” Erin’s Biography Erin Kinard Musician / community organizer / sign language interpreter Erin Kinard has been a member of the Asheville community since 2010 and a lifelong supporter of the arts. We talk with McCormick Emge and Walker King, two seniors at the Charleston County School of the Arts (Charleston, SC) who play keys and guitar in a jazz band called Fusion Jonez. We talk about how they started the band and arrived on the band name, thoughts to overcome fear of public speak and performing, advice for musicians, and guidance to find your passion in life. McCormick Emge (18) is a senior at Charleston County School of the Arts, where he majors in piano and plays the keyboard in the SOA Jazz Band. With Fusion Jonez, McCormick uses his background in classical, jazz, and contemporary music to help craft the unique sound of the 7-piece funk fusion band. Outside of music, he is a dedicated student, avid outdoorsman, and self-proclaimed aviation geek. Walker King (17) is a senior at Charleston County School of the Arts, where he majors in band, plays trombone/euphonium and is the lead guitarist in the SOA Jazz Band. With Fusion Jonez, he uses his knowledge in jazz voicing and rhythmic patterns to create funky fresh licks and hard hitting rhythms. This combined with rock influences helps create the original sound that everyone has come to love about Fusion Jonez. Outside of music, he spends time with his family, girlfriend, plays hockey, skateboards, but most of all continues to practice every day at the guitar. He strives to live by his dad's words of wisdom, "If you truly think no is better than you, then what pushes you to want to achieve more?" ---Generation Giants Podcast is a personal development podcast with a vision of seeing a rising generation become more than you ever thought capable and do more than you ever thought possible.---Contribute to the Show: https://goo.gl/pJKqbb---Subscribe on iTunes (Apple) // Subscribe on Stitcher or Google Play (Android) // Subscribe on YouTube!---Instagram: @generationgiantspodcast // Facebook: @generationgiantspodcast // Twitter: @GeGiPodcast // Website: www.generationgiants.com

You can now get a high school diploma from the Charleston County School system without actually being able to read, or to read well. Senator Lindsey Graham...for president? And a million fewer women are in the workplaces than in 2008. That's the lowest female workforce participation rate in 30 years -- which means more women are home with their kids. Is that a good thing? Plus, gas under $3 comes to the Charleston area. And, what happens if Americans get Ebola -- given that we are out of the most effective medicine available to treat it? Plus, the unemployment rate for milenials is a shocking 15%. Plus interviews with SCPIE's Sheri Few and Public Policy Polling's Tom Jensen. (80:49)
