"School Choice: A Vehicle for Constructive and Meaningful Citizenship" from Professor Amy Wax | Liberty & Literacy Forum

If values like respecting proper parental authority and discretion, promoting awareness and admiration for American and Western culture, preparing students for constructive and knowledgeable citizenship, and conveying an accurate sense of American history in world context, once again became priorities, as there were in the past, what would K-12 education look like?In this presentation, Professor Amy Wax examined the debate on education to go beyond advocacy for school choice and how expanded school choice policies can produce desirable substantive reforms in K-12 educational practice. Professor Wax addressed these issues in her keynote address at the Liberty & Literacy Forum. Amy Wax's work addresses issues in social welfare law and policy as well as the relationship of the family, the workplace, and labor markets. By bringing to bear her training in biomedical sciences and appellate practice as well as her interest in economic analysis, Wax has developed a uniquely insightful approach to problems in her areas of expertise. Wax has published widely in law journals, addressing liberal theory and welfare work requirements as well as the economics of federal disability laws. Current works in progress include articles on same-sex marriage, disparate impact theory and group demographics, rational choice and family structure, and the law and neuroscience of deprivation. Her most recent book is "Race, Wrongs, and Remedies: Group Justice in the 21st Century" (Hoover Institution Press/Rowman & Littlefield, 2009). Wax has received the A. Leo Levin Award for Excellence in an Introductory Course and the Harvey Levin Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence. As an Assistant to the Solicitor General in the Office of the Solicitor General at the U.S. Department of Justice in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Wax argued 15 cases before the United States Supreme Court.

No one does it like Angie. Racial tensions, police shootings, citizen uprisings. Does this sound like the setting of a YA novel? How about three of them? Her debut 'The Hate U Give,' her sophomore release 'On The Come Up,' and her third 'Concrete Rose' were all on The New York Times bestseller list, and her fantasy middle school-level book 'Nic Blake and the Remarkables: The Manifestor Prophecy' was *also* an instant New York Times bestseller! In this classic chapter of 3 Books, we sat down together at the busiest hotel in downtown Toronto on the tail end of Angie's 15-city book tour to discuss how we find the truth for ourselves, when do we bring up harsh realities to kids, and what place media and religion have in society today. We dive deep into the heightened racial and political tensions today and we search for a way out and, as always, we get to learn Angie Thomas's three most formative books. Like the rest of the country, citizens of Manitoba were deeply divided not only by their own beliefs, but by the draconian actions taken by their provincial government during the Covid-19 pandemic. On Thursday, Wally Daudrich announced that if he becomes leader of the Progressive Conservatives, he's going to reverse former Premier Brian Pallister's onerous ticket-and-fine scheme and give back the monies collected and still owing. We broke the story in the Winnipeg Sun.4.05 Part 2- He's out fighting for votes every day as he tries to win the Tory leadership race, and Wally Daudrich hears it everywhere he goes: the party has to make amends after failing to respect the rights of people and businesses during the pandemic."We need to go back and do something about that. We should have done this when we were in government but we didn't. I wanted to do that," said Daudrich in an exclusive interview. He called on Premier Wab Kinew to "make these changes so that we can actually bring back the fine money that people paid out to the Province and then forgive the fines of people that have been unable to pay to this point." If Daudrich becomes PC leader and wins the next election, "I will make sure that we are making the wrongs right again."Hear Marty Gold go over the numbers with Daudrich about his proposed Covid ticket amnesty, how many tickets would be refunded, how many forgiven, and Daudrich's estimate of the cost to the provincial treasury. He believes that churches and organizations that paid huge fine amounts for "illegal gatherings" and other violations would re-invest the refunds into charitable works in their communities. Daudrich says he's had his own run-ins with bureaucrats during the 30 years of operating Lazy Bear Lodge in Churchill and is sympathetic to those who suffered "during that dire time which unfortunately claimed a lot of small businesses and discouraged a lot of Manitobans. I want to give hope back to Manitoba."21.06 Part 3- Episode 8 wraps up with an analysis of the Daudrich gambit to bring disaffected conservatives back into the party fold, and a reminder of how listeners can support our work during Season 6. Ever find it hard to let go of past wrongs? I know I do. In 1 Corinthians 13:5, we're reminded, "Love keeps no record of wrongs." That's a tough one for me. God's forgiveness is a perfect example: when He forgives us, He truly forgets. It's like our mistakes are thrown into the sea of forgetfulness, never to be brought up again. If we're to emulate this kind of love, we need to truly forgive and forget, just as we're forgiven.

Sam discusses "The Great Capitulation" and the need for us to come together now to defeat Trump/MAGA fascism through collective action. Then she interviews veteran legal scholar, activist and political analyst, Marjorie Cohn, to discuss the implications of the "unitary executive" theory with Trump returning to power next month. They explore how this theory has evolved over time, its impact on the system of checks and balances, and the alarming agenda outlined in Project 2025, which aims to consolidate executive power. Cohn warns of the threats to civil liberties and democratic norms, emphasizing the need for organized resistance against fascism. How Is God Just If So Many Wrongs Go Unpunished?

Questions about how God could be just if so many wrongs go unpunished, an objection to God punishing people in Hell, and whether God's promise to meet all our needs according to his riches in Christ Jesus is referring to physical needs, spiritual needs, or both.   The cross only upholds justice between God and man, but where is justice among men? How is God just if so many wrongs go unpunished? An infinite being existing outside of the time and space he created will set us on fire if we don't let him be called King of our planet? Is that usual behavior for deities? Is God's promises to meet all our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus referring to physical needs, spiritual needs, or both?
