What if our WORK WAS our WORSHIP? The Hebrew word avodah means work, worship, and service, altogether! Work: being productive, worship: praising and glorifying God and service: a form of service to the world and our community. We are MEANT to be of service, to be PARTNERS with God in the ongoing creation of the world. The various usages of this Hebrew word that is first found in Genesis 2:15 shows us it was God's ORIGINAL DESIGN and DESIRE that our work and our worship would be a SEAMLESS WAY of living, as it was thousands of years ago. What about YOU? Are you making the work of YOUR hands every day AVODAH? You're invited today to start worshiping God with your work.
Bible StudyDon't just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: .Sermon Notes“How can anyone remain interested in a religion which seems to have no concern with nine-tenths of his life?” — Dorothy Sayers1. God Is a Worker – And We Are Made in His ImageThe Bible opens with God working—creating the world (Genesis 1:1–2:2).As God's image bearers, we too are designed for creative, fruitful work.Work is not an afterthought or consequence of sin—it's part of our identity.2. God Made a World That Needs WorkGod created a good, but unfinished world—full of potential.Humans are commissioned to “fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28).We are called to develop culture, build communities, and steward creation.3. Work Has Inherent DignityWork existed before the fall—it is not a curse but a gift. All kinds of work (paid, unpaid, creative, routine) matter to God.Meaningful work is vital to human flourishing and reflects God's character.Sermon ApplicationDiscussion Questions:Describe your attitude towards your work (whether paid or unpaid, inside or outside the home). Are you positive? Negative? Motivated? Bored? Delighted? Frustrated? Can a hobby be considered work according to Genesis 1-2? Why or why not?Is it easy for you to connect your faith to your work? God's Original Design for Human Sensory FacultiesThe human sensory system was never a random biological development. It was intentionally crafted by God as part of His divine architecture for human life. While we commonly identify five primary senses—sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch—these are merely the gateways to a deeper communion between our inner life and the outer world. They are not just for survival or pleasure, but for anchoring us into God's presence, His creation, and meaningful relationships with others. Each sense was designed to serve a sacred purpose:To awaken awe and worship in response to God's beauty and majesty. To enhance our sensitivity to others, fostering empathy and godly love.To cultivate inner peace, as our perceptions align with the reality of God's goodness and sovereignty. These faculties were meant to be instruments of union—binding our body, soul, and spirit in agreement with heaven's rhythm.2. Senses and Emotional Alignment: The Pathway to WholenessWhat we sense often shapes what we feel. And what we feel deeply influences how we live. When our sensory input is distorted or out of sync with God's truth, it leads to emotional fragmentation. This disunity causes us to live by reactive habits and impulses, often rooted in fear, lust, pride, or pain. These were never God's intentions. But when our senses are trained in righteousness:What we see evokes a vision of hope and beauty. What we hear affirms truth, not fear or deception. What we touch transmits love and connection. What we taste and smell remind us of God's provision and goodness.A renewed emotional life, anchored in redeemed senses, allows us to respond to God with authentic worship, to people with genuine love, and to ourselves with peace, purpose, and dignity.
"The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and good conscience and a sincere faith." 1 Timothy 1:5Pastor Dave gives the introductory message of our brand new sermon series "Blueprint: Practical wisdom for building healthy churches, where we will take a deep look into the book of 1st Timothy.
Marriage reflects salvation itself—God's faithfulness despite our unfaithfulness. This profound reality explains why Jesus sets such a remarkably high standard for marriage in Mark 10, declaring "what God has joined together, let no one separate" and that remarriage after divorce constitutes adultery.Yet beneath these severe-sounding statements lies a more complex and compassionate truth. The Pharisees tested Jesus with their question about divorce permissions, hoping to trap him in legalistic contradictions. Instead, Jesus cut through their self-serving interpretations by pointing back to creation's design while simultaneously revealing God's heart for protecting the vulnerable. The cultural context proves essential for understanding what Jesus condemns. In patriarchal first-century society, men could discard wives for trivial reasons—even burning dinner—leaving women economically devastated and socially marginalized. Jesus specifically addresses this injustice, saying a man who divorces and remarries "commits adultery against her." His concern centers on protecting vulnerable women from exploitation, not forcing victims to remain in dangerous marriages.Physical and emotional abuse represent profound violations of the marriage covenant. When one spouse systematically harms another, they have already fractured what God designed to be unbreakable. While God hates divorce because it breaks His ideal design, He also hates abuse and the exploitation of the vulnerable. Moses permitted divorce "because of the hardness of your hearts"—a recognition that in a fallen world, marriages can become destructive rather than life-giving.For troubled marriages where abuse isn't present, hope remains through mutual commitment to growth. The triangular model provides profound insight: with husband and wife at the bottom corners and Christ at the top, as both partners move closer to Christ, they naturally grow closer to each other. This spiritual dynamic offers healing for relationships where both parties seek Christ-likeness together.Whether you're contemplating marriage or navigating its challenges, embrace both God's perfect standard and His grace for our imperfection. Jesus confronts the Pharisees with a challenge that goes far deeper than their superficial question about divorce law. Rather than falling into their political trap (designed to get Him arrested like John the Baptist), Jesus takes the conversation back to the very beginning—to creation itself. What unfolds is a profound teaching that reveals marriage as something hardwired into creation, not merely regulated by changing cultural laws. "From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female," Jesus declares, establishing that marriage isn't just a social contract but a divine joining where "the two shall become one flesh."This episode delves into the painful reality of divorce while exploring the theological foundations that make marriage so sacred in God's eyes. We examine how the certificate of divorce in Mosaic Law was actually meant to protect women from being treated as property, while acknowledging that God's original design never included divorce at all.Perhaps most striking is Jesus' revolutionary statement that applies equally to men and women in marriage—a radical departure from the patriarchal norms of His day. The disciples' shocked private questions reveal just how countercultural Jesus' teaching was then—and remains today.Whether you're married, divorced, or single, this teaching provides essential wisdom about the seriousness of marriage and why understanding God's design matters before entering this covenant relationship. The discussion balances theological depth with pastoral sensitivity, acknowledging the real pain of broken marriages while upholding the sacred ideal God established at creation. Ps Gina speak about how Gods plan in the beginning was always for multiplication.
As we move onto the second part of our 2025 theme 'Magnify & Multiply', Steve introduces the concept of multiplication and looks at how faith, patience, and obedience are all keys to us experiencing God's multiplication in our lives!
God's original design for man is to be fruitful and multiply. In the Old Testament the focus was on one nation, Israel, whose mandate was to bring forth Messiah. They multiplied from one man, Abraham, into one family, into one nation and inherited a physical Promised Land. In the Great Commission we see Jesus extend that mandate to His disciples, to make disciples of all nations, and populate the Kingdom of God, our spiritual Promised Land.
The "fall" of humanity resulted in separation, sin, selfishness, brokenness and disharmony in our relationship with God and with creation around us. Yet, God's ultimate goal was to restore His original design through Jesus Christ.
This week Lawrence talks about repentance and how it is a changing of our mind to embrace the Truth of how God sees us in Christ - this calls us to return to our original design of living in communion with God. This message was given at Kāpiti Impact Church in Paraparaumu, New Zealand.
Adonai created a perfect Man. In harmony with creation as with Abba. We are the picture of God's masterful craftsmanship Man. Woman. God. Nature. An ecosystem crafted for Communion. Sadly, Man Fell. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we figured it would be a perfect time to drop in a much needed conversation on the topic of intimacy. In a world and culture that has sexualized the word intimacy, today’s conversation gets back to the basics of God’s original intent and design for intimacy. We also spend time peeling back the layers of intimacy such as physical, emotional, & spiritual intimacy as well. Joining us to do just that is a man who has one of the most impactful testimonies you will ever hear, Joshua Broome. If you’re not familiar with Josh’s story, it’s a testiment of the love, grace, and faithfulness of our God, where a former adult film star embarked on a life-changing journey to fill the void in his heart. Despite fame and success, he found emptiness. Battling depression and thoughts of self harm, Josh discovered the transformative power of Jesus. Now, he shares his story of redemption on podcasts, TV shows, and stages, spreading God's message of restoration all over the world. With a BS in Christian Ministries, our guest and his wife Hope have been married for seven years, raising their four sons in Dallas, Texas. His message is centered on the fact that no matter what you have done or what has happened to you the love of Jesus Christ stands ready to change your future. Whether you’re preparing for or repairing the relationship God has called you to, today’s conversation is a must hear as it’s filled with practical tips and strategies to recenter your heart on what matters most. Remember, love is not something you become better at, love is someone you become more like. We hope and pray that this conversation would not only impact you, but also those you love.
