What drew him wasn't merely her appearance but something deeper—a grace and humility absent in the pagan women of his acquaintance. Unknown to him, these qualities flowed from Febronia's secret Christian faith.When faced with an imminent marriage proposal, Febronia made the unthinkable choice to abandon her comfortable life, fleeing eastward to her aunt's convent in Nisibis. More details have emerged on the Department of Defense's Deferred Resignation Program. According to a new memo, the DOD will offer the program to eligible DOD civilian employees for a week between April 7 and 14. Voluntary early retirement authority will also be offered. The initiatives, ordered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, come as the Pentagon is looking to reduce its reduce civilian workforce and implement the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) efforts. Jules Hurst III, acting undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, wrote in an April 1 memo that the DRP provides a “generous opportunity for employees to enter a paid leave status for several months, prior to resigning or retiring,” adding that employees pending approval or approved for the program will not be subject to return to in-person work requirements. A bipartisan bill that would establish a nonprofit foundation aimed at boosting private-sector partnerships at the National Institute of Standards and Technology was reintroduced in the House and the Senate on Tuesday. The Expanding Partnerships for Innovation and Competitiveness (EPIC) Act would create a Foundation for Standards and Metrology at the Department of Commerce, which would be focused on fostering collaborations with academia, industry, and other organizations. That new foundation would ultimately help supplement NIST's funding and — according to a release shared with FedScoop in advance of the Wednesday announcement — make the path to commercializing technologies developed by the agency easier. Shane Emeny who is paralysed has been stuck in emergency housing for four years waiting for a house to become available. But even though one did a year ago, it still has to be modified to suit his needs. Building consent for that modification has only just been granted. Consumers became pessimistic about future business conditions and less optimistic about future income. These thresholds haven't budged since they were set. Adjusted for inflation from 2013 to now, $200,000 would be roughly $263,000, and $250,000 would be about $329,000. Lifetime Learning Credit Phase-Out Limits: This credit, which helps cover education costs, starts phasing out at $80,000 of modified adjusted gross income for single filers and $160,000 for joint filers. Those limits were frozen after 2020 by law and haven't been adjusted since. If they'd kept pace with inflation from their earlier adjustments (pre-2020), they'd be closer to $100,000 and $200,000 today. Child Tax Credit Amount: The base $2,000 per child credit, set in 2017 under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, isn't indexed for inflation. Temporary expansions (like the $3,600 boost in 2021) came and went, but the core amount stays flat. From 2017, $2,000 would be about $2,500 now with inflation. $10,000 SALT Deduction Cap: The state and local tax (SALT) deduction limit, also from the 2017 tax law, caps deductions at $10,000 for individuals or joint filers.
