Down to the Beat welcomes on Ottawa artist, City Fidelia. Fidelia is a mogul in the Hip-Hop industry and has shown it through his discography and his approach on growing the music culture in his home city of Ottawa. He now has his own studios called 'House of Ensemble' in downtown Ottawa, where we are recording the interview, and his goal is to bring in up-comers in the Ottawa scene and use Ensemble as a movement to unite individuals through forms of art. He has toured worldwide, worked with artists like Malik Yusef of Kanye's 'G.O.O.D Music, Eva Shaw, and Timbaland just to name a few. He shares what those experiences have done for him in terms of his creative approach and hints at whats to come.

We start this episode off with our segment “over/underrated” where we talk about how much RIAA Certifications really modern day and then about artists who have started creating in the fashion world. We then talk about surprise performances in our segment “Let’s Talk”. The episode is finally capped off with two reviews of Westside Gunn’s newest release “Pray for Paris” and then City Fidelia’s 2019 album “PainKiller”. On the 74th edition of the spotlight, we're going to play an artist that I've been neglection status for some time. They contacted me in July of 2018, and finally we're going to play them today. Also, some of my favorites. They contacted me through the artist submission page on the mix and I want to see what people think. CityFedelia Part raw, street poet and soulful RnB singer, City Fidelia is an artist whose music and storytelling defies traditional labels.   An Ottawa native, now residing in Toronto, the rapper/songwriter's humble upbringing is naturally woven into the fabric of his music and the stories he tells through his art. City's ability to be vulnerable and authentic in his lyricism, telling stories about his own struggles and the unspoken nuances of modern life, is grounded in his goal to inspire inner-city youth to leave the path of hardship in order to pursue their dreams. He also spearheads Ensemble, a collective of creatives in music, fashion and art working on a singular mission: to bring people together and teach that anything is possible through art. With so many exciting ideas and so much music lined up, Fidelia, is ready to stick his head out and establish his name in the industry, in his own inimitable way. City Fidelia is a socially conscious rapper that's always speaking on hardships everyone can relate to. He's shared the stage with artists like Fabulous, Bow Wow, and A$AP Rocky, and performed at major festivals like Bluesfest and Manifesto. What many don't know about City is that he has a crazy come up story, that all started when he moved to Toronto. He and his friends would rent out their place and share a small room every weekend, just to help support his music. They now make up the creative collective Ensemble, where their mission is to bring people together and teach that anything is possible through art. In this interview, City takes us through his upbringing in Ottawa, and how he moved to Toronto to pursue music. We talked about how hard his transition was, and how it gave inspiration to his hit song “Lately.” He tells us what it was like to work with Malik Yusef, Kanye West's good friend and a member of G.O.O.D Music.
