Phil Manzanera is one of the UK's best-known musicians and record producers, having shot to prominence in the early ‘70's as the lead guitarist with the seminal band, Roxy Music. He is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading guitarists and remains in huge demand. Roxy Music were inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 and recently Phil was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to music. He was born to a British father and Colombian mother and has collaborated with musicians from South and Latin America, South Africa, Cuba and continental Europe. His recent album releases include The Liberation Project: Songs That Made us Free, Corroncho 2 and Live in Japan as well as The Ghost from Santiago that he did with Split Enz's Tim Finn. In recent years Phil has co-produced Pink Floyd's ‘The Endless River'. He released, ‘The Sound of Blue', his own autobiographical album, co-produced David Gilmour's new album, ‘Rattle That Lock', toured with Gilmour in the UK, Europe and South America. In 2015 he was Maestro Concertatore at Italy's largest free festival. He also took part in ‘Sunshine of Your Love' a tribute concert to his friend, Jack Bruce. Phil's musical influence stretches far and wide, but even he was taken by surprise when his guitar riff from 1978's K-Scope was sampled by Jay Z and Kanye West and became the Grammy winning smash hit ‘No Church in the Wild' the first track on their multi-million selling album, ‘Watch The Throne'. At 73, Phil is now in his fourth decade as a professional musician. He joined Roxy Music in 1972, aged 21, as lead guitarist. Roxy's rise was meteoric, with the band being hailed as the stylistic influence of the early 1970's. During the next 12 years, until 1983 when the band members went on a ‘long break', Roxy Music released a series of international best selling albums, achieving ten UK top ten albums and touring extensively throughout the world. The 18 year hiatus ended in 2001 with a critically acclaimed, sellout 52-date world tour featuring Bryan Ferry, Andy MacKay and Paul Thompson. The world rediscovered Roxy Music. In the summer of 2003 Roxy again played in the US and Europe. 2010 saw Roxy Music thrilling fans at Festivals in the UK, Europe and Japan, which was followed by a Winter UK tour, and dates in Australia and New Zealand. As a writer, producer and solo artist, Phil Manzanera has worked with many of the luminaries of modern music, such as Steve Winwood, David Gilmour, John Cale, Godley and Creme, Nico (Velvet Underground) and John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia). He has co-written material with many artists, including Brian Eno, Tim Finn and David Gilmour. Phil co-wrote Pink Floyd's single ‘One Slip'from their 1988 ‘Momentary Lapse of Reason' album. He has recently been awarded an OBE. Phil joins us this week to share his amazing story. For more information about Phil and his music head to his website: https://manzanera.com/new/ If you have a request for a '60s '70s or '80s musician contact me through my website https://www.abreathoffreshair.com.au --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/sandy-kaye3/message

Had there been a version of the Forbes list in the early 14th century, a 20-something-year-old Malian king would reign supreme. Dubbed the “richest man of all time," Mansa Musa's wealth is unmatched to this day. However, Musa paid a hefty price for his position. In the early years of his 25-year reign, the young and brash king led the Mali Empire with an iron fist and a large ego, conquering territories all over Africa. But, he quickly learns the true cost of his tyrannical leadership – a cost his immense wealth won't be able to cover.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

If you're a heavy drinker with aspirations of quitting, you'll know that the thought of the first day without booze is scarier than anything. This podcast series begins on the night of Vincent Hero's last alcoholic beverage and chronicles the struggles and the satisfactions of every single pain in the a** day since. Follow along and listen to a borderline autistic idiot with a shi**y attitude, be honest and re**rded, in an attempt to remain sober. --------------------------------------------------------
Kanye West and Candace Owens are trippin' in Paris (Cue in that song from Watch The Throne). Herschel Walker got drug through the mud by his own son. DAMN!!! It has been nearly 2 months now since our wonderful, talented and forever hilarious co-host Rory tragically passed away and it has been very difficult to resume the podcast since. However we are finally back, joined by our long-time collaborator and friend of the show Jack Frayne-Reid to discuss the passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II, an event that has predictably led to the nation collectively losing its mind. We discuss everything from the Shadow Cabinet's choreographed change of social media profile pictures to why everyone's favourite immigrant animal might in fact have a secret fascist pas, as well as the new monarch's close association with various noted paedophiles and much more. Thank you all so much for your patience and support through what has been a very difficult time. /// SHOW NOTES /// /// CREDITS /// Hosts: Aarjan Guest: Jack Frayne-Reid Production: Connor Music: Cardio /// Bob Vylan - England's Ending

Ever wonder how those props, video monitors, vocal effects, light cues and other enhancements come together at a concert, all synched to the music? Laura Escudé has the answers.Escudé has done design, programming and playback for some very big names: Herbie Hancock, Garbage, Miguel, Demi Lovato. But one name stands out among her clients as an unpredictable genius with a keen eye for visual design and a very complex sonic palette: Kanye West. It's telling that Escudé has worked with Kanye for many years, including on his Watch The Throne tour with Jay-Z. He's not the kind of guy who will stick to a script, so Escudé often had to improvise.Escudé is one of more artistic techies we've encountered. She'll nerd out (her term) as an Ableton instructor, but also plays classical violin so well that Kanye put her on the Watch The Throne track "Made in America."Today on the Songfacts Podcast, Escudé explains how the concert magic happens and how one might break into this field.https://www.songfacts.com/https://www.facebook.com/songfactshttps://twitter.com/Songfactshttp://pantheonpodcasts.com/https://twitter.com/pantheonpodsHosted and Edited by Corey O'Flanaganhttps://twitter.com/ofe1818https://www.instagram.com/coreyofe/corey@songfacts.comSongfacts Podcast Spotify Playlisthttps://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IThMW5yB8XnFh5cS2gTxR?si=KAhiqWRcSIy5uxb2sZPFTAThis show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.
