Found an eye-opening post from Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) where a quote from Denzel Washington was shared that said this: “Always be thankful for the bad things in life. They open your eyes to see the good things you weren't paying attention to before.” Again, it's not that I want bad things to happen to me just so I can learn lessons. It's a reminder to have my eyes open more often than just when bad things happen. It's how I respond when things get tossed at me and remember gratitude is something to have all the time. Talk about a great gameplan to always be motivated about!! Thanks for listening. Professional sports was rocked October 23rd when a prominent NBA head coach and a Miami Heat player were arrested as part of two separate illegal gambling investigations, one allegedly connected to organized crime. The ripple effect of these cases underscores that sports betting is not only a concern for the NBA, but extends to other major sports as well as the college ranks. While betting scandals in sports goes back over a century, pro leagues partnering with sports books and casinos combined with the vulnerability of today's youth being able to place bets with the click on a phone creates a frightening landscape.Renowned addiction medicine physician and international speaker Dr. Lipi Roy joins Neil and Vic to speak about the issues, the societal problems and whether the genie can be put back in the bottle, at least in part.IN THIS EPISODE:[03:37] - After some chat about the 16-game Frozen Frenzy, Three Things You Need to Pay Attention to focuses on a legend hitting 1700 points and the first overall pick in 2023 finally appearing to find a comfort zone in the Windy City.[12:51] - Dr. Lipi Roy is welcomed to the show. A Toronto native and hockey fan growing, she notes the sport she loves is as vulnerable to gambling and addiction as any of the other major pro sports.[14:59] - Dr. Roy addresses the root of addiction within the brain.[17:25] - The susceptibility for addition for a more undeveloped brain versus a grown adult.[20:09] - The problem with college athletes about to be granted permission to bet on professional sports.[22:42] - The follow-up addressing the obvious concern of once college athletes turn pro, whether they can realistically stop gambling if they've started. And that opens up another Pandora's Box...[25:41] - The increased issue with prop bets.[30:07] - Neil points out the gambling component may be connected to, in large part, the inbred competitive nature of athletes.[36:51] - Is there any true chance the current gambling landscape can be reversed somewhat or has it too far gone?[39:45] - How listeners/viewers can reach Dr. Roy. [42:27] - Wrap on the discussion with Dr. Lipi Roy. [43:26] - A segue off medical topics to injury news. JEFFCO SCHOOLS VOTERS, PAY ATTENTION TODAY Because I've got Lindsay Datko from JeffCo Kids First on to talk about how her organization was alerted to the troubled past of one of the school board candidates that WAS backed by the teachers union. The union rescinded their endorsement but not until after calling JeffCo Kids First "extremists" for bringing up a sexual crime in a school board race.

Jesus declared that his disciples would be his witnesses “to the ends of the earth.” Early Christians lived out this proclamation in powerful and palpable ways. Today we struggle to witness to those close to us, let alone to those at the ends of the earth. This series offers a glimpse into ways early Christians witnessed. Impacted? “No” should be directly followed by a noun or gerund (动名词,就是动词-ing) - don't add “is” or “do” after it!No smoking 禁止吸烟 No parking 禁止停车No photography 禁止拍照02. 警告类标语:Do not+动词“Do not”比“No”稍正式。It is directly followed by an action verb to express a specific behavior (某个具体动作) that should not be done.Do not touch 请勿触摸 Do not climb 请勿攀爬Do not lean 请勿倚靠03. Warning sounds like a police gave you an official notice 所以见到”warning“这样的标志一定要小心了(you'd better be careful)。04. Be careful / Mind your head 小心碰头 Be patient 请耐心等候Be quiet 保持安静“Be+形容词”结构,用来描述应该保持什么状态,类似于我们提到的“stay safe”。 闲人免进:No enter other people 只有授权人员可以进,就是闲人免进。Authorized Personnel Only 非工作人员禁止入内:No entry for others 非工作人员禁止入内,就是仅限工作人员。Staff Only 仅限出口:Only out ”出“可不是用“out”,而是用“exit”出口这个词。Exit Only 06. 注意类标语:Mind+需要注意的事Mind your head 小心碰头Mind the step 小心台阶Mind the gap 小心站台空隙 “Mind”在这里不是“想”,而是“注意”。This is super common in British English.你可能会在地铁中听到播报:“Mind the gap”,这在其他很多地方也会用到,especially where there's a space between the train and the platform (站台)。07. Just get out, don't get in. This one sounds so rude, like get out, don't come back! You'll see this on restroom doors (厕所的门上) when someone is inside (当有人在里面). Out of Order: 暂停使用/故障中This goes on broken equipment (已经损坏的设备) or unavailable facilities (已经无法使用的设施上). Please Keep off the Grass: 请勿踩踏草坪“Keep off”是避开;“Keep off the grass”就是请勿踩踏草坪。It's common in parks. That's what it seems like but it actually means don't approach a property (物业) to sell goods (进行推销), offer services (提供服务), or request donations (要求捐款). It's basically saying “We don't want door-to-door salespeople here”. What are the weird sign translations you've seen?

Easing up, letting things come to you, and practicing being present is a recurring theme in recent episodes of this series, and that mindset is on full display once again in this episode on The Wood Brothers. I sat with Oliver Wood, Chris Wood and Jano Rix backstage at the 2025 Earl Scruggs Music Festival, ahead of their Friday night headlining set at the award-winning event. It was one of the most jovial and insightful conversations I have had in quite a while, and we covered a lot of ground, ranging from the band's sonic evolution and their penchant for improvisation and letting their subconscious steer the way in the studio and on stage, to their perspective on bluegrass and banjo icon Earl Scruggs, to Chris Wood's British Columbia farmstead and Jano Rix' salsa dancing. All that and more, including excerpts of songs from their ninth album, Puff Of Smoke, awaits you here. In Luke 12:54–59, Jesus challenges the crowd for being able to read the weather but missing the spiritual signs right in front of them. It's a reminder for us to pay attention—to what the Holy Spirit is doing, to those small nudges from God in Scripture, worship, or everyday life. Jesus also calls us to be peacemakers, to settle things before they spiral, to bring calm instead of conflict. The early church understood this as a call to live wisely and faithfully—not seeking out suffering, but trusting God in it. So today, let's be attentive and gracious. Pay attention to what God might be showing you, and look for ways to be an agent of peace and love wherever you go.Shameless plug: here's a link to Method(ist) to the Madness, our new, hopefully entertaining podcast about church history. - https://methodisttothemadness.buzzsprout.com/Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. How often do we, as clinicians, wait for the research to “catch up” before we make changes—while our clients continue to struggle with symptoms that could've been eased sooner? If you're still using the same intake forms, the same outcome measures, or the same clinical flow because “that's how it's always been done,” you might be missing key opportunities to prevent trauma from taking hold and prolonging recovery. Presented at Curwensville Alliance on 10/05/25 by Pastor Steve Shields. Paying attention helps you live wisely. Failure to pay attention can cause drift. Failure to pay attention can bring disaster. Paying attention makes it possible to receive blessing.. Focus your attention on things that advance the Kingdom. What's going on around us. What God says in His Word. Hold on to what you have learned. Visit it repeatedly. Unpack it thoroughly but not creatively. Live it deliberately and dependently.

When it comes to impulse buying and overspending, one often overlooked area is the grocery store. Fortunately, there are simple strategies you can use to save money on groceries and keep your costs within your budget. Links: Check out TCU University for more financial education tips and resources! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter! Learn more about Triangle Credit Union Transcript: Welcome to Money Tip Tuesday from the Making Money Personal Podcast. Have you ever looked at your grocery receipt in shock, realizing you spent more than you planned? Groceries can quickly add up, and many people are just as likely to make impulse purchases at the grocery store as they are elsewhere. Being aware of your spending and planning ahead are essential to shopping smart and managing regular expenses. If you're looking to reduce your grocery bill, here are a few tips to consider: Serve Simple Meals: Dinner doesn't have to be complicated. Large meals with multiple sides and desserts can require significant prep work and increase costs over time. Consider simpler meal options like BLTs, big salads, egg sandwiches, or quiches. You don't need to prepare an elaborate feast every night; with a little creativity, you can enjoy satisfying meals without the extra effort and expense. This approach may also help reduce food waste if you or your family can't finish leftovers. Pay with Cash: This is a useful strategy for those who stick to a budget. If you know how much you can spend on groceries each week, bring that exact amount in cash and avoid exceeding it. This way, overspending becomes impossible. If you prefer not to use cash, consider setting a spending limit on your credit or debit card. Try Delivery or Pickup Services: The growing popularity of grocery pickup and delivery services offers more than just convenience; these options can help you cut back on spending. Shopping online decreases the likelihood of impulse purchases. When you walk through the store aisles, you're more likely to encounter items you didn't plan to buy and toss them into your cart. Instead, opt for online shopping, scheduling a pickup or delivery. While many grocers may charge a small service fee, it could be insignificant compared to the money you save by avoiding impulsive buys. Often, the minor service charge is worth the savings. Pay Attention to Sales: Smart shoppers always keep an eye out for sales, especially on meats, which can help reduce your grocery bill. Take note of when your favorite items go on sale and track their sales cycles to plan your purchases in advance. With some discipline, you'll find that the savings add up over time. Consider Buying Generic: Generic items are often cheaper than their brand-name counterparts. By switching some or all of your items to generic brands, you could see significant savings. Some grocery stores offer rewards programs that provide money back when you purchase their store brands. Not only are you buying cheaper items, but you're also getting a little something back for your purchases—an extra win for your wallet! Groceries are a necessary expense in our budgets, but how much we spend can vary widely. With some planning, discipline, and creativity, you can keep this essential expense from getting out of control. TikTok. Instagram. Constant notifications. Many worry that phones are destroying students' ability to pay attention and, in turn, their ability to learn in the classroom. Indeed, even many adults say that they have trouble reading books because of the constant stream of distractions their phones provide. But what does the research say? Are students actually less able to pay attention as a result of their phones? On this episode of The Report Card, Nat Malkus discusses these questions and more with Dan Willingham. Daniel Willingham is a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia and the author of several books on education. His recent article Pay Attention, Kid! explored the link between technology use and students' ability to focus.Show Notes:Pay Attention, Kid!Are Purported Causes of NAEP Score Decline Actually Symptoms?Daniel Willingham on Outsmarting Your Brain

We've all heard the clichés: focus on what you can control, embrace the pain not the suffering, fight for what you want. Easy to dismiss, right? But the truth is, those sayings stick around for a reason. They hold the kind of wisdom that can change how you approach life, work, and even setbacks. What often gets missed is that clichés aren't about perfection, they're about perspective. They remind you that regret comes from the chances you didn't take, that discipline lasts longer than motivation, and that consistency matters more than bursts of effort. It's not about chasing outcomes—it's about showing up, day after day, for the things that matter most. One question that flips the script: How do I minimize future regrets? Suddenly, clichés like “control what you can” or “give it your all” stop sounding tired and start feeling urgent. They're not just empty lines, they're the compass for your decisions. When you finally pay attention to the advice you've heard a thousand times, life feels lighter, setbacks feel smaller, and your goals feel closer. It's not about ignoring the noise, it's about finally hearing the truth inside it.Which cliché have you been ignoring that's ready to guide you?-Advisory services are offered through Root Financial Partners, LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser. We've all heard the clichés: focus on what you can control, embrace the pain not the suffering, fight for what you want.Easy to dismiss, right? When the Bible says that we have a heart, it is talking about the very center of our beings — the part of us that tells us how to live. In this sermon, we look at the importance of paying attention to our hearts, and the importance of keeping a soft heart that can trust in God, through everything. Key Verses: Hebrews 3:12-19
