Ian Mills & Gary Judge sit down with Everton legend Derek Mountfield in a must listen for Evertonians of any generation. Derek talks about growing up an Evertonian, going to Goodison with his mates and idolising Bob Latchford before a career in football started as a centre forward taking him across the mersey for a start with Tranmere Rovers. We hear about the call 2 years into his Tranmere career from Howard Kendall, making his dreams come true as he signed for Everton and just what his first impressions where of a young team that included Graeme Sharpe, Neville Southall & Kevin Ratcliffe before watching that eventual dominant 80's side be built with the signings that followed in the next 2 years. We hear stories about Andy King, Peter Reid and how team bonding was helped by the legendary Chinese restaurant team nights out before we break down just what the start of that mid 80's dominance was, Birmingham, Oxford, Liverpool in the milk cup and of course the FA Cup final in 1984 and his memories of that day. 84-85 is spoken about with great pride and emotion as the lads hang on Degsy's every word from winning at Anfield in October to Everton's 8th league title and first European trophy in May. The importance of Andy Gray is quickly replaced by his memories of hearing Andy was leaving, and how he felt his replacement Gary Lineker did in the season that followed, which ended in heartbreak and has Degsy tell us of just how that 85-86 season hurt him going into the summer. Injuries and brutal honesty of the next 2 seasons take up the last section of the show, as Degsy's Everton career wound down with him just getting enough appearances to collect his medal in 1987, and his emotion at leaving the Club in 1988. This is a podcast that takes us down memory lane, from the inside of the greatest period in the clubs history. A passionate blue, who as he said it 'lived the dream and would have been on the terraces watching had he not'.
