This is the second to last episode of the year and I keep forgetting to upload it so I apologize. It's busy season y'all. Monica and I dive into our old lunch adventures which include me screaming, and why miso makes us laugh so hard. Our obsession with Blue Sushi's ice cream balls will never be upstaged, and urban bow hunting…Should we share the illegal things we did over 10 years ago? I mean y'all know I'm honest about my mistakes and I've made some big ones. Hooters pitchers of beer encouraged Monica to try dip, and I'm not talking spinach and artichoke. What is the key to winning rock paper scissors? Also, what snacks would you grab on the way out, if you robbed a gas station? Or do ya'll not think about these things?

Dave looks at how things will change next year with the 12 team playoff and how there won't be the same excitement. The Polish Prince's Victory LapOn November 6, 1988, the air at Phoenix International Raceway crackled with excitement as Alan Kulwicki, the Polish Prince, tasted victory in his first NASCAR Winston Cup race. Adrenaline coursed through his veins like wildfire, fueling his daring decision to steer his car against the tide of the inaugural Checker 500. This bold act on that fateful autumn day breathed life into the now-famous Polish Victory Lap.A celebrated tradition in the world of auto racing, the Polish Victory Lap sees the triumphant driver defying convention and speeding around the track in reverse, checkered flag proudly waving like a battle standard outside their window. Kulwicki's Polish heritage lent itself to both his nickname and this unique celebration of victory.Kulwicki not only created that unforgettable victory dance, According to NASCAR lore, prior to the 1992 Hooters 500 (the final race of the season), Kulwicki got permission from Ford to change the "Thunderbird" lettering on his bumper to "Underbird," because he considered his team to be an underdog in the championship race. Despite breaking the first gear in his transmission during his first pit stop, Kulwicki employed a brilliant fuel-saving plan that helped him finish second in the race. With the great finish, Kulwicki capped off a six-race string that allowed him to overcome a 278-point deficit to capture the Winston Cup and made the Underbird part of NASCAR history.Tragically, in 1993, a light aircraft accident snatched Kulwicki away from the racing world. Though he never got to defend his 1992 Winston Cup Championship, his legacy as a successful NASCAR driver—including earning Rookie of the Year in 1986—remains immortalized through the exhilarating ritual of the Polish Victory Lap.www.nodrivinggloves.com#cars #car #collectorcars oldcars #cartalk #electriccars #ev #hotrod #carhistory #automotivehistory #automobile #thisdayinautomotivehistory #thisdayinhistory #classiccars #underbird #NASCAR #WinstonCup

The movie might be lame, but the Binge Buddies have an absolute blast tearing it down!
Katherine Ryan is a Canadian comedian and writer. Her edgy and provocative routines have led to sell-out tours, comedy specials on television and her sitcom series The Duchess. Based on her experience at the time, the Duchess tells the story of a successful, happily single mother and Katherine wrote it out of frustration because she believed no one else was telling a story like hers on screen. Katherine was born in Sarnia in Ontario where she attended a local French-speaking primary school. The school celebrated the arts and Katherine became a musical theatre enthusiast who could sing, dance, write and act. Later she moved to Toronto where she studied city planning and worked for a branch of the restaurant chain Hooters. She credits the latter with teaching her the value of being entertaining and smart. In 2008 she relocated to London with her boyfriend and a few years later she got her big break as a comedian, performing on the panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats. By now a single mother to daughter Violet, she developed a rapport with audiences by sharing stories from her own life – both funny and sad. She describes her tendency to connect with her fans in this way as her “language of love”. In 2019, while filming an episode of the BBC series Who Do You Think You Are in Canada, she met up with her high school boyfriend, Bobby. They hadn't seen each other for 20 years but the spark was still there and later that year they married in Denmark and went on to have two children together. Hello everyone! My guest today is Hooters drummer and long-time band member David Uosikkinen. David and the band recently recorded and released a new album, “Rocking & Swing,” that took the band back to their original ska/reggae sound from the early eighties. The band of forty-plus years has just wrapped up their European/US tour, their first lengthy tour in decades. David has a documentary, “Heart of The Beat,” that premiered in October 2023 at Philadelphia's longest-running indie film festival. I've seen the film and for as long as I've been a fan of David & The Hooters, I learned more than what I knew. And, there's cool photos and footage. I like its casual and honest narrative. Let's welcome David to Drum Channel to talk about the incredible success of the band, the documentary, his solo project “In The Pocket” and more!

On this episode, take a tour with us - to the early 80's - to Scandal, as we drop into the short history of the band that released an EP that was a scattering blast of five songs - including “Goodbye To You” and “Love Has Got A Line”. At the time, it was the best-selling EP in the history of Columbia Records. But did I ever really listen to, back in 1982 or 84 or 87 or whenever, all the five songs? Maybe. Around this time, in 1982, Pat Benatar was coming towards the end of her best run. Scandal had that vibe - rock and roll crunch with a new wave-ish bite. Early 80's production and the couple hits were all about the chorus making your hips move and your head nod. Scandal threw five variations of their sound out there to see what's stuck. And did it with 80's killer keyboard playing, guitars-and-drums of the time, and a powerhouse singer out front. Patty Smyth went solo in 1987 with her debut album. The first of two hits on it, "Never Enough" (the album's title track), was written by The Hooters' Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian (there are a surprising amount of Hooters connections to other artist's music of the era). Rick Chertoff, who produced both The Hooters and Cyndi Lauper's debut megasmash album is involved too. Baby Grand, a pre-Hooters lineup, recorded an earlier version of "Never Enough". Smyth said the album "was never supposed to be a solo record; it was meant to be a record by 'Scandal Featuring Patty Smyth'.” So we listen to the EP. Let's dig into “The Warrior” album, and hear some of what we like - and don't so much - with Smyth's solo records. Still, at the essence of it all is a great rock and roll voice, some drops of rock and pop candy, and a whole bunch more to like than what was heard just on the radio. *** Read Rob's current and archived writing at rockforwardmusic.com WEBSITE: rockpopandroll.com EMAIL: email@example.com SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts Spotify Stitcher Google Podcasts

Gamble & Huff, Philadelphia International Rock & Soul ClassicCharlie Ingui, Original Lead Vocalist still records & tours go check him out! ~ thesoulsurvivors.comR.I.P. Ritchie Ingui, original vocal half of the Soul Survivors. He transitioned in early 2017.Original group member Kenny Jeremiah Transitioned in December of 2020.Memorable Intro, AWESOME Classic Hit, a Kenny Gamble &Leon Huff hit that Helped launch the Legendary Philadelphia International Record Label.I am a Music Lover of All Styles, Generations. This Week I Flashback.......The Soul Survivors, originally from New York City, grew up listening to the R & B groups of the 1950's. The sounds of groups like the Moonglows, Heartbeats, and Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers had a great influence on brothers Charlie and Rich Ingui. With various street corner groups, they developed their vocal skills. While in high school, Charlie joined the vocal group from Queens, N.Y. the Dedications. When, a year later the group's lead singer decided to leave, brother Rich was recruited. While performing at clubs in the New York area, they found themselves at the mercy of various house bands and decided to find a group of musicians who would become permanent members of the group therefore creating a self contained unit. The group would be renamed THE SOUL SURVIVORS.Shortly thereafter, the group began to build a strong following, playing venues in Atlantic City and Philadelphia. Enjoying great success in Philadelphia, they attracted the attention of record producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Into the recording studio they went, emerging with " Expressway To Your Heart " a song that would climb to #3 on Billboard's R&B chart and #4 on it's Top 100 list. The success of " Expressway " became Gamble and Huff's first "crossover" hit when it began to be played on both black and white radio stations. It's success enabled Gamble and Huff to reach the large audiences they sought in order to bring their " Sound Of Philadelphia " to the mass Market. In polls taken by both the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia's City Paper, " Expressway" was voted the number one record ever to come out of Philadelphia. "Expressway " was followed by two other chart records, "Explosion In My Soul" and " Mission Impossible". Their first album, released in 1968, was " When The Whistle Blows ". A second LP, on Atco Records, called "Take Another Look" appeared in 1969.During this time, the group toured extensively throughout the U.S. appearing with many different types of artists...everyone from Jackie Wilson, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles to Janis Joplin, the Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, Sly and the Family Stone and countless others. In 1974, the Soul Survivors reunited with Gamble and Huff to record their self titled album "The Soul Survivors" on TSOP Records. It was written and performed in a style that would define the unique sound of The Soul Survivors. The album produced "City Of Brotherly Love" which would show up on Billboard's R&B Top 100 and become the group's fourth charted outing. The Soul Survivors recorded new music and covers several years ago, most recently working with David Uosikkinen of The Hooters and his project "In the Pocket" which is paying tribute to the vast catalog of music created in Philadelphia.© 2023 All Rights Reserved© 2023 Building Abundant Success!!Join Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

She is known for creating insane amounts of growth wherever she goes, and I'm excited to dig into how that's translated over to her newest chapter at AG. This is jam packed episode with so much insight and wisdom that I can not wait for you all to listen to! Enjoy! This week Nikki & Brie are in New York City for a reunion with some of their lifelong besties, Shawna and Jayme. Shawna and Jayme have gotten some screen time on Total Divas and Total Bellas, but this episode is unlike anything you've ever heard on The Nikki & Brie Show before! Nikki & Brie formed a friend group with Shawna and Jayme when they all worked together at Hooters in San Diego, and it's a bond that's lasted through boyfriends, breakups, cross-country moves, marriages, and children. Something that Jayme and Shawna have both missed: Twin Fights, that gentle bickering, threat of hostility, and joyous love that only sisters can share. Nikki, Brie, Shawna, and Jayme all take a walk down memory lane with stories about Brie calling security on the friend group, late-night gambling, money-making schemes to keep the party going, underwear injuries, and reflecting on their body counts. Asking strangers for liquor, sneaking into parties, leaps of faith, nights out, and crazy arguments all work their way into this episode! This week, The Nikki & Brie Show closes out with Inspiration & Affirmation from Shawna and Jayme, who offer some different perspectives on confidence and being comfortable with yourself.
