In this episode of Seeing Them Live, Charles sits down with Ben Daughtry and Jonathan Palmer of Love Jones — the Louisville-born, LA-based band that has been crafting their unique blend of lounge, soul, pop, and sharp-witted storytelling for over three decades. The conversation kicks off with a shared love of live music, as both Ben and Jonathan trace their concert-going roots back to the same unlikely starting point: Van Halen. Ben recalls sneaking into a show at 14, way too young to be there, watching a then-unknown Van Halen open for Black Sabbath and feeling like "a bomb going off." Jonathan recounts his own Van Halen baptism at Freedom Hall in Louisville on the Women and Children First Invasion Tour — complete with $7.50 festival seating and his mother taking notes in the stands. From there, the episode becomes a wide-ranging tour through decades of live music obsession. The guys swap stories about Ted Nugent crowd surges, jumping on stage with GWAR in New Orleans, playing congas with Tool at an early Lollapalooza, and watching Rage Against the Machine move 60,000 people. Jonathan shares privileged industry moments — seeing The Rolling Stones at a 600-capacity room in New York alongside Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, and Questlove, and catching Nine-Inch Nails at The Troubadour when they felt "too big for the building." The conversation is fueled by genuine enthusiasm, with each story triggering another in a kind of joyful avalanche of rock and roll memory. The second half of the episode turns to the band's own story — from their residency at Largo on Fairfax, where David Bowie once sat quietly in a booth and Tool's crew became regulars, to their unexpected appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album Here's to the Losers. Charles and the guys dig into the Cocktail Nation moment of the '90s, the making of their new album The Greatest Show on Earth — written during COVID jam sessions in a Louisville warehouse with crickets chirping and trains passing — and the cinematic, Gil Evans-influenced sound that ties its six expansive tracks together. The episode closes with the band expressing hope to get back on the road, a shout-out to their partnership with Whiskey Thief Distillery, and a tease of possible activity around the 30th anniversary of the film Swingers, on whose soundtrack Love Jones famously appeared. BANDS: Adele, B-52s, Beastie Boys, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Black Sabbath, Chicago, Combustible Edison, Devo, Earth Wind & Fire, Fishbone, Foo Fighters, GWAR, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, Love Jones, Metallica, Metric, Molly Hatchet, Morphine, Nine Inch Nails, Oasis, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stones, Sea and Cake, Steely Dan, Supertramp, Ted Nugent, The Cars, The Cocktails, Tool, Tortoise, Van Halen, ZZ Top. Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys joins Chris Russell following the group's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and ahead of their halftime performance at the UFL Championship Game featuring the DC Defenders. He reflects on how he first became part of the Beastie Boys and the creative path that led him into one of hip-hop's most influential groups. Mike also discusses what the Hall of Fame recognition means to him and his collaborators, while sharing his mindset heading into the high-profile halftime performance. The conversation also touches on his appreciation for sports culture and the energy of live events, highlighting how music and athletics continue to intersect throughout his career.
The final hour opens with former NFL player Mark Schlereth weighing in on Brandon Aiyuk, calling out the 49ers wide receiver on social media and suggesting he needs to reflect on his own role in the situation he finds himself in. Chris Russell reacts to Schlereth's comments and continues the broader conversation surrounding Aiyuk's behavior and league-wide perception. The hour then moves into the final stretch of caller reaction, as listeners wrap up their thoughts on the ongoing Brandon Aiyuk discussion and his potential connection to the Washington Commanders. The show closes on a major guest segment with Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys joining Chris Russell following the group's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and ahead of their halftime performance at the UFL Championship Game featuring the DC Defenders, as he reflects on his journey, the honor of the induction, and the intersection of music and sports culture.
The show opens with the Carolina Hurricanes forcing a decisive Game 6 in the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights, as Chris Russell breaks down key moments from the series and highlights the continued rise of goaltender Brandon Bussi, whose breakout postseason performance has become one of the defining storylines of the playoffs. The discussion expands into fan reaction, including a call from Italy's Amalfi Coast, before shifting to baseball, where the Washington Nationals pick up a 6–3 win over the San Francisco Giants behind a key early homer from Luis Garcia Jr. The focus then turns heavily to the ongoing Brandon Aiyuk debate, as Chris Russell doubles down on his criticism of the Brandon Aiyuk despite pushback from callers and commentary from media voices like Grant Cohn and Mark Schlereth, sparking an extended back-and-forth over Aiyuk's behavior, reputation, and potential fit with the Washington Commanders. The show closes with a major guest appearance from Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys, who joins following the group's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and ahead of their halftime performance at the UFL Championship Game featuring the DC Defenders, reflecting on his career, the honor of the induction, and the intersection of music and sports culture.

One minute you're discussing legendary comedians. The next minute you're getting shot with an Airsoft gun to reveal a baby's gender. Just another completely normal day on The Rizzuto Show.Episode 101 delivers exactly the kind of chaos you'd expect from your favorite daily comedy show. King Scott finally reveals whether he's having a boy or a girl, but because this is The Rizzuto Show, the reveal involves questionable planning, poor weapon handling, and two unsuspecting coworkers standing against a wall hoping they don't get blasted. Radio professionalism remains undefeated. Before the big reveal, the gang gears up for Night of the Rizzlies at the Gateway Grizzlies game, debates who can throw the fastest first pitch without embarrassing themselves, and questions whether Moon's partially destroyed knee can survive an outfield race. The confidence level is high. The odds of injury are somehow even higher. Then things get surprisingly heated when the crew tackles one of the biggest comedy questions imaginable: Who is the greatest stand-up comedian turned actor of all time? Robin Williams? Eddie Murphy? Jim Carrey? Steve Martin? Adam Sandler? Billy Crystal? The debate spirals into movie history, personal rankings, forgotten classics, and enough opinions to start at least three internet arguments. In Crap On Celebrities, Lern brings everything from Beastie Boys news and Marilyn Manson legal updates to TV cancellations, celebrity health stories, Hulk Hogan documentary discussion, and one of the strangest medical conditions anyone has ever heard of. Apparently some people sneeze when they're too full. The show spends an alarming amount of time exploring that concept. The gang also revisits cult classics like The Cable Guy, argues over the true Mount Rushmore of 1970s rock bands, and somehow turns a discussion about diarrhea into a surprisingly detailed scientific investigation. Nobody asked for that. Yet here we are.And because becoming a father isn't stressful enough, King Scott sticks around for "Feed Baby Scott," where listeners try to identify mystery baby foods while Scott gets spoon-fed questionable purees. Future fatherhood preparation? Not exactly. Entertaining radio? Absolutely. If you're looking for a daily comedy show packed with ridiculous debates, weird celebrity news, accidental life lessons, and a room full of adults behaving like unsupervised middle schoolers, this episode delivers all of it.Congratulations to Scott and Allison on their baby girl, condolences to everyone who got hit with an Airsoft pellet, and good luck getting the phrase "explosive diarrhea" out of your head. Thanks for listening to another daily comedy show from The Rizzuto Show.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
If you've ever convinced yourself you were dying only to discover you just forgot your morning coffee, congratulations—you and Moon have something in common. This episode begins with Moon's dramatic weekend health crisis, which included headaches, body aches, sweating, canceled plans, and a genuine belief that he had caught the flu. After missing parties, skipping events, and suffering through a soccer match, the shocking diagnosis arrived: accidental caffeine withdrawal. One decaf mistake later, Moon was spiraling. Two rose lattes later, he was ready to conquer the world, write albums, and possibly become mayor of Paris.Meanwhile, the crew breaks down one of the most unexpected party surprises in recent memory when former Blues star Jamie Rivers decides the perfect pool-opening gift for his fiancée Ashley is... live monkeys. Not monkey decorations. Not monkey-themed cupcakes. Actual monkeys. Naturally, the monkeys arrive during a crowded backyard party packed with guests, children, music, and enough chaos to make everyone question several life choices. The result is equal parts adorable, confusing, and mildly terrifying. The conversation somehow escalates into monkey behavior analysis, party planning mistakes, surprise animal logistics, and the realization that getting bitten by a monkey in a bikini was probably not on anyone's weekend bingo card. The gang also recaps King Scott's massive baby shower, complete with mountains of gifts, bacon, desserts, and the looming anticipation of the show's upcoming gender reveal. There are discussions about weird party foods, mysterious hot-dog cake creations, and why some recipes should maybe stay inside family cookbooks. As if that wasn't enough, Rafe conducts what can only be described as investigative journalism by revisiting a local Hooters. What follows is an unexpectedly deep exploration of restaurant culture, paper plates, silent dining rooms, forgotten glory days, and whether a restaurant can accidentally become an existential experience. It's part food review, part sociology experiment, and part cry for help. The crew also tackles one of life's toughest questions: what's the saddest food to eat alone? Cake? Ice cream? A blooming onion? The answers get surprisingly personal as stories of lonely desserts, spaghetti mishaps, old promotional cakes, and questionable life decisions come flooding out. From caffeine dependency and monkey business to restaurant nostalgia and emotional food debates, this episode delivers exactly the kind of beautiful nonsense that makes this daily comedy show what it is. If you're looking for a daily comedy show that can seamlessly connect French coffee, poolside monkeys, hot-dog cake, and Hooters trivia without ever making sense, you've found your people. Absolutely.Today's episode of The Rizzuto Show answers a question absolutely nobody asked: can King Scott identify baby food flavors while blindfolded and trapped in audio isolation?Armed with an airplane spoon, questionable parenting products, and the confidence of a man who claimed he'd "never gotten this wrong before," Scott stepped into one of the weirdest challenges we've ever put on the show. What followed was a rollercoaster of carrots, sweet peas, green beans, applesauce, chicken broth, and enough pureed mystery meat to make everyone in the room reconsider modern food science.Things start innocent enough when Scott confidently nails carrot. That's where the success story ends. Soon he's identifying sweet peas as asparagus, green beans as apricot, and repeatedly convincing himself that every suspicious meat product on earth somehow tastes like tuna. Meanwhile, Moon embraces his new role as Baby Food Sommelier, Rafe nearly loses his lunch from the smell of ham puree, and Lern spends most of the challenge laughing at Scott looking like he's awaiting sentencing in the electric chair.Along the way, the gang talks about the upcoming Operation Food Search canned food drive, broadcasting outside the station for the first time in years, and why the studio might actually be the sixth member of the show. Then it's right back to watching a grown man try to process flavors designed for people who can't legally walk yet.The real star of the show might be the baby food itself. The ham and gravy drew immediate comparisons to cat food. The chicken and broth somehow smelled worse. Multiple show members gagged. One nearly threw up. Scott requested second bites of several flavors despite clear evidence that his taste buds had already filed formal complaints. If you've ever wondered what happens when confidence collides head-on with pureed meat products, this episode delivers. It's a masterclass in bad guesses, terrible smells, and the kind of chaos that only happens when a daily radio show decides to turn one of its hosts into a giant toddler for entertainment purposes. This is exactly the kind of funny podcast nonsense that keeps us employed. It's a funny podcast filled with bad decisions, questionable food choices, and a shocking amount of discussion about tuna that wasn't actually tuna. If you love a funny podcast featuring hilarious fails, weird food challenges, sarcastic humor, and friends roasting each other for nearly half an hour, welcome home.Featuring:King Scott vs. baby foodThe ham puree incidentThe Great Tuna ConfusionMoon's elite airplane-spoon techniqueRafe's battle with nauseaMultiple audience predictionsOne very concerned future fatherEnough chicken broth to haunt a studio foreverThe Rizzuto Show: proving once again that adulthood is mostly just childhood with bills.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.Belleville's Skyview Drive-In is now for saleBear sightings prompt warnings in Franklin County'Pure Panic': Glacier Grizzly Attack Survivor Shares the Story of the Rescue That Saved HimSt. Louis woman stabs man in head with railroad spike after fight over lottery ticketSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
David Senra: Read the notes at at podcastnotes.org. Don't forget to subscribe for free to our newsletter, the top 10 ideas of the week, every Monday --------- Rick Rubin grew up on Long Island obsessed with music — arena rock at 13, punk by high school, then hip-hop when it was still a street movement you could only hear at one club in New York City. The records coming out didn't sound like the club. They were made by professionals who didn't go to the club. So at 18, while a freshman at NYU, he made one himself — "It's Yours" with T La Rock. It sold 100,000 copies in 18 months. He put his dorm room address on the sleeve. This launched Def Jam Recordings. LL Cool J's first record came next. The Beastie Boys after that. His credit on those records didn't say "produced by." It said "reduced by" — a theological statement as much as a job title. His method has never changed: strip everything down until what remains has no place to hide, then protect whatever magic appears. He's applied it to Jay-Z, Johnny Cash, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, The Strokes, Metallica, Kanye West, Tom Petty, and many other top artists. He describes himself as a lazy workaholic. The Zen exterior is real. So is the guy who spent the first 25 years of his career in a dark room 16 hours a day, seven days a week, waiting for a miracle to show up. The Beastie Boys' trajectory is one of the most unique in music history, moving from underground punk, to the "frat-rap" superstardom of Licensed to Ill, to socially-conscious stars of both hip-hop and alternative rock. In this episode, we explore the pivotal moment when the band faced an artistic crisis following the commercial failure of Paul's Boutique. Severing ties with Def Jam and moving to Los Angeles, the trio—Mike D, MCA, and Ad-Rock—found absolute creative freedom in their own L.A. studio. With the help of Mario Caldato Jr. and Money Mark, they began to blend their hip-hop roots with live funk, punk, and rock, resulting in the 1992 triumph, Check Your Head. We'll do a track-by-track breakdown of "So What'cha Want" and "Gratitude," revealing the secrets behind their signature sounds. We'll see how the Hammond organ and distorted karaoke vocals created the atmosphere of "So What'cha Want," and how Adam Yauch's (MCA) spiritual journey influenced the heavy, fuzz-drenched riff of "Gratitude." The episode concludes with a poignant look at the band's legacy following Yauch's passing in 2012, celebrating a group that proved innovation often comes from looking back at your roots while moving fearlessly forward. “So What'cha Want” - Michael Diamond, Adam Horovitz, Adam Yauch Copyright 1992 Brooklyn Dust Music (ASCAP). “Gratitude” - Michael Diamond, Adam Horovitz, Adam Yauch & Tom Cushman Copyright 1992 Brooklyn Dust Music (ASCAP) and PolyGram International Music Publishing, Inc. On today's episode, I talk to musician Jeff Mueller. Originally from Louisville, KY, Jeff formed the band Rodan in 1992 with his friend Jason Noble, releasing the seminal album Rusty two years later on Quarterstick Records. After Rodan broke up, Jeff formed June of 44, and they put out almost an album a year until they stopped playing together in 1999. Rodan's break-up also blossomed into a new band for Jeff and Jason, Shipping News. Shipping News released numerous albums over the next fifteen years, many of them on Quarterstick, until Jason's death in 2012. Most recently, Solid Brass Records released Jeff and Jason's first high school group King G & the J Krew, which is somewhere in-between Rodan and the Beastie Boys, and it is a delight! Inspired by Pitchfork, Jay presents a question. What's your perfect 10 album? The guys discuss their picks. Jay chose Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys, Nick went with In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel, and Greg landed on his first perfect 10 album, Nevermind by Nirvana. You can check out the 240 artists that responded over on Pitchfork: https://pitchfork.com/features/240-artists-on-their-perfect-10-albums/Song: Beastie Boys - “Shake Your Rump”It's News with Nick! Apparently it was news to Nick that in 2009, when Thom Yorke was assembling a band to perform songs from his solo record Eraser, he enlisted Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to play bass! In more recent news, the Kennedy Center retains it's original name and independent music platform Nina Protocol is shutting down in July.Song: Flea - “Traffic Lights (feat Thom Yorke)”Friend of the show, Nate Kalwicki, was recently awarded a mortgage free home by the amazing folks at A Soldier's Journey Home. An Afghanistan veteran, Nate lost his right leg in an ambush and met Greg while recuperating at Walter Reed Hospital. Listeners may remember that he's now the guitarist for The Resilient. The band got to perform at the celebration and Greg gives us a play-by-play on “Tales From the Concert.”Song: Aphex Twin - “Window Licker”
Welcome to Public Broadcast, the brand new podcast feed from Public Record Online, brought to you by listeners like you and our sponsor, Hello Merch. Formerly known as WASTOIDS, Public Record is your home for art, culture and music—not optimized for the algorithm, but optimized for care, preservation, and archiving. This week: Sean Lennon. The son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Sean is a lifelong musician himself. In the ‘90s, he was signed to the Beastie Boys adventurous Grand Royal Records, which released his debut, 1998's Into the Sun. He followed it up in 2006 with Friendly Fire, released on Capitol Records, and he's played in a dizzying array of bands and projects, including Cibo Matto, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Mystical Weapons, and his mom's band, the Plastic Ono Band. He's also in a group with Les Claypool called The Claypool Lennon Delirium, with Primus bassist Les Claypool. They're out on the road now, a traveling circus of rock music that features Primus, The Frog Brigade, and the Claypool Lennon Delirium, which means Les is playing three sets a night, and Sean is playing two—as he's sitting in with the Frog Brigade in addition to his project with Les. Their new album is called The Great Parrot Ox and the Golden Age of Empathy, a psychedelic pop opus that's also a concept album about the role of humanity in the age of AI. Ahead of the tour rolling through Phoenix on June 30th, we caught up with Sean to talk technology, his mother's art and the squares who still don't get it, and whether or not he has any plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his album Friendly Fire…but first…are we merely meat machines? Let's dive in and discuss. You can find a full transcript of this chat at publicrecord.online, where you can also scope our other shows, interviews, news reports, and more.

Are you ready? You think you are, but you're not. How about now? Still no. But DWJ is going there anyway! Being the world famous hosts of America, Greenland, and New Zealand's Favorite Podcasts, the boys have connections that regular people simply don't. That includes a VERY special (or "special") guest who is here to shine a light on the truth of the world that surrounds us (though even he is unable to explain why a Korean drink has DENMARK written on it). Between bringing down everyone and everything from carbs to the Beastie Boys to sumo, your favorite hosts also take a hard look at Korean beverage labeling standards, duels, who is funnier, and even a serious (really!) look at the nature of the soul. Plus, a conspiracy tinged Braindead Trivia and one of the shows biggest disagreements on the review. So pull on your cutoff jorts, tighten up your mesh shirt, and get ready to do pushups with the things THEY don't want you to know with The Kings of Drink Mountain!

Entirely unreleased, undeniably funky techno. Charles Accarisi, AKA Chlär, treats techno like a science. From his earliest days as an audio engineer, the Lisbon-via-Switzerland artist has approached techno with the precision of a seasoned experimentalist, dissecting our love of listening to kick drums in dark, sweaty clubs down to its very bones. Before launching his label, Primal Instinct, in 2023, he dug deep, building its foundation on neuroscience studies exploring syncopation and bass frequencies. Yet, for all its academic rigor, Accarisi's music remains incredibly funky. You can hear this endless pursuit of groove in his DJ sets. His productions flit across the techno continuum with similar versatility. One minute, as half of Funk Assault, he's flipping a Beastie Boys vocal into a 140-BPM weapon; the next, he aims straight for the head, trading peak-time bacchanalia for the haunted hypnotism of the afterhours. RA 1041 is all of this and more. Composed entirely of unreleased tracks, it delivers 70 minutes of heads-down techno in its purest form. It's heavy and dark, for sure, but undeniably swung, seamlessly bridging dub techno and sweat-inducing hardgroove throwbacks. This is contemporary techno synthesized by a master chemist. We continue our examination of the year 1986 by talking about the albums that were released in the second half of the year. Metal and rap were reigning supreme with releases from Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, and The Beastie Boys, but pop and rock offered up some really strong records as well with major releases from Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Berlin, The Pretenders, REM, Huey Lewis and the News, and Sparks. Ce 27 mai, au rayon des incontournables de Pop-Rock Station, Marjorie Hache convoque Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Nine Inch Nails et The Dead Weather. L'animatrice célèbre également l'anniversaire de la grande Siouxsie Sioux en diffusant le titre "Kiss Them For Me" de Siouxsie and the Banshees. Amyl and the Sniffers, The Clash et Grace Jones complètent cette riche sélection musicale. Summer officially arrived the second a teenager accepted cash to shave off his broccoli haircut in somebody's garage like it was a shady underground stock trade. This episode of The Rizzuto Show starts with a parenting moment every adult secretly fears: your kid walks into the house saying, “Dad… I think I messed up.” Naturally, everyone assumes the car exploded or someone got arrested. Nope. Just a fresh buzzcut and instant regret.Apparently the new trend among teenage dudes is sacrificing their curls for gas money, construction jobs, or whatever weird social experiment Gen Z is running this week. The gang debates whether the broccoli boys are evolving, devolving, or accidentally forming a 1998 nu-metal tribute band. There's also concern over sunscreen, dating prospects, and whether moms are legally allowed to roast their sons immediately after a haircut disaster. Then things somehow get even more chaotic with the return of the “Three Song Challenge,” where listeners have exactly seconds to identify legendary bands based on three song titles. Sounds easy, right? Apparently not. Friday's contestants embarrassed the entire listening audience, so this episode becomes a redemption tour for humanity itself. The daily comedy show spirals through rounds featuring Pearl Jam, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Soundgarden, Blink-182, Black Sabbath, Stone Temple Pilots, Journey, Weezer, Rage Against The Machine, CCR, Smashing Pumpkins, Mötley Crüe, No Doubt, Iron Maiden, Incubus, ZZ Top, and Beastie Boys. Some callers absolutely dominate. Others sound like they've never heard music before despite living on Earth their entire lives. There are screaming kids in the background, accidental team-ups between callers, confusion, panic, and enough rock nostalgia to make your uncle punch drywall in excitement. It's basically what happens when a funny podcast combines classic rock radio, family dysfunction, and game show pressure into one beautiful trainwreck. The gang also teases discussions about dating costs, modern beauty standards, and whether the legendary “dad bod” was ever truly appreciated or if society just gaslit average men for several years. Tough questions get asked. Few answers arrive. If you love a comedy podcast loaded with sarcastic humor, music references, weird trends, parenting fails, St. Louis chaos, and daily nonsense that somehow feels therapeutic, this episode delivers all of it. This daily comedy show continues proving that absolutely nobody has things figured out — especially not the people hosting it.And honestly? If somebody offers you $50 to shave your head this summer… negotiate harder.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Boutique by the one and only Beastie Boys. From sample overload to lyrical left turns, this album is a wild ride—and we've got thoughts. Lots of ‘em. Did it live up to the hype? Did we get lost in the layers? Did we try (and fail) to count all the samples? You'll have to listen to find out. Spin it, stream it, and come hang with us as we close the book on one of the most unique albums of the ‘80s..

If your family calendar currently looks like a game of Tetris designed by a sleep-deprived raccoon… welcome to Maycember. It's called Maycember because it's busy like December without any of the fun twinkle lights. But here's a little secret: Penn and I are almost out of Maycember… and it's kind of amazing. We talk about what it's like to finally reach the other side of the chaos and why, for those of you currently crying in a school parking lot while hot-gluing a costume together, there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. Penn and I also talk with award-winning journalist Rachel Feintzeig, whose New York Times essay about “considering underachieving” made parents everywhere feel deeply seen. Should we all be shooting for a Medium Maycember? We say yes.We introduce our GPA scale (General Parental Anxiety) and rank Maycember activities from “totally manageable” to “absolutely not” - and somehow we end the episode talking about a Beastie Boys parody song about charging cords. As one does. If you're deep in Maycember right now — hang in there... one day you will have a chill May. We promise. We love to hear from you! On this episode of Without a Country, Corinne Fisher dives into one of the strangest and most unsettling stories of the week: a deadly hantavirus outbreak aboard a quarantined cruise ship off the coast of Africa. With multiple deaths, questions about human-to-human transmission, and passengers trapped at sea, the story quickly turns into something that feels ripped straight out of a thriller movie.Corinne also takes a deep look into the disturbing online communities tied to the Columbine shooters and how vulnerable teenagers are being pulled into extremist internet subcultures through platforms like Roblox, Discord, TikTok, and private chat groups. The conversation explores loneliness, bullying, internet radicalization, and the growing difficulty parents face trying to understand what their kids are exposed to online.Later in the episode, the focus shifts to AI, data centers, and the future of American jobs. As towns across the country push back against massive AI infrastructure projects, Corinne breaks down the tension between technological progress, environmental concerns, corporate power, and the fear of what automation could mean for everyday workers. From cruise ship paranoia and internet cult behavior to AI expansion and political hypocrisy, this episode covers the chaos, contradictions, and weirdness shaping modern life right now.ENEMY OF THE STATE: Columbine ShootersDeadly Online Communityhttps://archive.is/bX5A8Hantavirus https://archive.is/3Zasthttps://nypost.com/2026/05/06/world-news/health-officials-think-theyve-tracked-down-source-of-cruise-ship-hantavirus-outbreak/Travel influencer - https://archive.is/4eJSjDictator Article of the Monthhttps://www.wfmz.com/news/area/lehighvalley/northampton-county/slate-belt/opposition-grows-as-residents-push-back-on-proposed-data-center-in-northampton-county/article_882e5674-b4c1-459a-a930-e0fd840c36ee.htmlFROM THE ATLANTIC: https://archive.is/J3zk2https://www.forbes.com/sites/deloitte/2026/04/13/when-sustainability-becomes-tax-policy-what-leaders-need-to-know/FBI/Beastie Boyshttps://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/kash-patel-beastie-boys-sabotage-snl-b2970120.htmlRape Kit Reformhttps://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/mariska-hargitay-rape-kit-backlog-campaign-wins-50-states-1236582234/Mifepristonehttps://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/what-to-know-about-a-mifepristone-maker-asking-the-supreme-court-to-restore-access-to-the-pill-by-mailIran Warhttps://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2026/5/6/iran-war-live-trump-says-hormuz-operation-paused-amid-us-tehran-talksVoting Rights Acthttps://archive.is/tNpurWoman Found Dead in Big Surhttps://www.ksbw.com/article/suspicious-marks-woman-dead-big-sur-strangulation/71056881Disabled Adultshttps://newjerseymonitor.com/2026/05/01/benefits-cut-disabled-adults/See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
