It's time once again to bow down to the ferocious ladies of rock! Our 8th episode in a series dedicated to women who bring the fury with style and passion. This time, we are paying tribute to the '90s and the Riot Grrrl movement of that decade. A movement all about women being empowered to express anger, rage, and frustration like never before. Piss off a man; you can fight it out and then go have a pint at the pub. Piss off a woman, and you will pay for it 10-fold. These are ladies that play loud and heavy with attitude and… balls? What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. These ladies bring it, and you owe to yourself to check them out! We hope we turn you on to something new!Songs this week include:Motor Dolls – “Little Brother” from Burning Memories (1996)Jucifer – “Long Live The King” from Calling All Cars On The Vegas Strip (1999)Jack Off Jill – “Swollen” from Sexless Demons And Scars (1997)Lunachicks – “Bitterness Barbie” from Jerk Of All Trades (1995)Sugarsmack – “Venus” from Tank Top City (1998)Sleater-Kinney – “Stay What You Are” from Call The Doctor (1996)7 Year Bitch – “Hip Like Junk” from Viva Zapata! (1994)Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

The Nostalgia Test Podcast

Dan, Manny, & Billy talk about the recent shutting down of MTV music channels in the UK and what that means for the future of MTV, while putting some iconic music videos that aired on MTV in the 80s and 90s to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “MTV created culture.” -Manny After hearing about MTV music channels being shut down in the UK after 40 years, the guys had to call an audible and to talk about what they think this means for the future of MTV, music videos, and the cultural impact that MTV had on pop-culture. They also talk about what this means for MTV in the US? The episode then dives into a celebration of iconic music videos that aired in MTV from the 80s and 90s, like Michael Jackson's “Thriller,” Beastie Boys' “Sabotage,” Peter Gabriel's “Sledgehammer,” and Duran Duran's “Hungry Like the Wolf.” There's also the classic Nostalgia Test Podcast tangents, Billy's hot take about Pearl Jam, and so much more. Le 4 novembre, Marjorie Hache propose une RTL2 Pop-Rock Station percutante, entre énergie brute et curiosité sonore. L'émission s'ouvre avec The Charlatans et leur titre "Deeper and Deeper", issu du nouvel album "We Are Love". Suivent The B-52's, David Bowie pour l'anniversaire de "The Man Who Sold The World", et The Trashmen avec le classique "Surfin' Bird". Les moments forts s'enchaînent : Nine Inch Nails livre "As Alive As You Need Me To Be", extrait de la bande originale du film "Tron Ares", avant Florence + The Machine et "Buckle", coécrit avec Mitski. The Enterprise crew is stranded, the stakes are personal, and the villain Krall (Idris Elba) brings a gritty menace that feels earned.Chris Pine channels a more seasoned Kirk, balancing swagger with introspection.Zachary Quinto's Spock is emotionally layered, especially in scenes with Karl Urban's McCoy—who absolutely steals the show.Sofia Boutella's Jaylah is a breakout star, giving the franchise a fresh, fierce energy.Jason Roy Gaston notes: “This is the most ‘Star Trek' of the Kelvin movies—it's not trying to be Star Wars, it's trying to be Starfleet.”VHS Jase adds: “Jaylah is the MVP. She's got the attitude of a rogue and the heart of a Federation officer.”Lin's action chops shine in kinetic sequences, but it's the quieter moments—like Kirk's reflection on his father's legacy—that give this film warp core depth. The visuals are stunning, the score (with a killer Beastie Boys callback) pumps adrenaline, and the pacing never drags.Absolutely. Beyond feels like a love letter to The Original Series while still pushing the Kelvin timeline forward. It's not perfect—Krall's backstory could use more polish—but it's a thrilling, heartfelt ride.

Titled after the Kendrick Lamar feature in the latter portion of the installment, welcome to I'm Dying of Thirst. The newest episode curated by your favorite internet disc jockey, DJ Witwickatron. A hip-hip majority installment starting in the 90's and ending at current features. I do love the Jai Paul demo soundcloud playlist, but outside of that? My favorite portions of this episode would be Wu-Tang's Black Diamonds, Beastie Boys live on David Letterman, Paul Wall Sittin' Sideways on vinyl and the Jay Electronica run featuring the closing stanza of Eternal Sunshine. Boylife in EU by Yung Lean makes me smile as well. I really ended up enjoying this episode, I hope you did the same. In other unrelated news, just yesterday I was lucky enough to give a really nice, beautiful lady a bouquet of roses for the first time in my life. Peachy, dusty pink roses that I spent time picking out, found a vase at a separate fancy location and really enjoyed the whole process. No reason in relaying this message to my internet populous other than to let you know that DJ Witwicky is out here balling out of control in real life. Thank you, as always, for being here. I'll be byck with another handful of game next weekend.Polka King of the Midwest,DJ Witwicky

It's hard to imagine an album more well-respected than Goodie Mob's debut, Soul Food. It gets well-deserved love from rap enthusiasts from all over the map: the south, backpackers, people who like a little bit of spirituality in the mix, beat heads, lyric lovers, pretty much everyone. Goodie Mob never quite got the shine that their close compatriots Outkast did, and maybe that's part of the reason why underground fans still hold this album dear 30 years after its release. This week on the show DBRP hosts David Ma, Demone Carter and Nate LeBlanc are examining this classic record which still sounds fresh after severl decades. After some contextual table setting, we use our patented rubric to try and assign numerical scores to our feelings about this work of art. We have done this several times, most prominently on our Beastie Boys series over the summer, but we have never had a final score result quite like this one before. Tune in! We consider activism in art, especially the legacy of John and Yoko's timeless work together (as also documented in the recent One to One documentary).Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York City on 30 August 1972, the Power to The People box set includes 31 Live Tracks from John & Yoko's two historic sets at the One To One Concert backed by Plastic Ono Band, Elephant's Memory and Special Guests. They were John Lennon's only full-length concerts after leaving The Beatles and the last two full-length concerts that John & Yoko performed together. Released from 10th October 2025. He came of age in the kaleidoscopic '90s, working with Cibo Matto and issuing his first solo album, 1998's Into the Sun, on the Beastie Boys' Grand Royal label, while beginning a long stint playing in his mother Yoko Ono's band. In the following decade he formed the psychedelic duo the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and the improvisational prog group Mystical Weapons. As his musical interests expanded further, he teamed with Les Claypool to form the hard-to-categorize project the Claypool Lennon Delirium, branched out into film scoring, explored more mainstream territory as he worked with artists like Lana Del Ray, Lady Gaga and Lily Allen, and delved into jazz as well. His first foray into that style was 2024's Asterisms, a fully instrumental album of electronics-fused jazz and psychedelic soundscape music. The son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Lennon was born in New York City in 1975. During his childhood, he was educated in Swiss boarding schools, but occasionally appeared on his mother's albums and sang on the 1984 Ono tribute Every Man Has a Woman. In his early teens, he was occasionally seen decked out in a plastic Thriller jacket and hanging out with Michael Jackson, but his first official step into the spotlight was in the form of filmed interviews for the 1988 documentary Imagine: John Lennon. Three years later, he organized -- with Ono and Lenny Kravitz -- a star-studded re-recording of his father's "Give Peace a Chance" as a protest to the Gulf War. That year, he also appeared on Kravitz's album Mama Said.” Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi.In 2025, Sean is working on a new Claypool Lennon Delirium album (their 3rd) and is directing a documentary film on the crazy genius fashion designers 3as4, who have designed outfits for Bjork and Yoko among many others. Allen walks us through:The gritty reality of band‑to‑radio submissions (missing ISRC codes, un‑licensed MP3s, and why a simple artist bio is a must). How his weekly “Love Local Radio” hour on FM 101 gives Milwaukee's DIY talent a dedicated airtime—and the art of curating an hour‑long, genre‑spanning playlist that keeps listeners tuned in.The evolution of the indie music landscape from the 90s to today's streaming‑driven world, and why the internet may actually be a bigger equalizer than any record label ever was.The rise of merch on Amazon, t‑public, and the challenges of quality control when you're a one‑person shirt empire. We also explore the future of music creation, tackling the hot‑button debate around AI‑generated—sharing Allen's own viral AI‑track that racked up millions of plays before anyone realized it wasn't human‑made. All of is threaded together with humor, personal anecdotes about skate‑boarding, Tony Hawk video games, and Allen's ultimate “Mount Rushmore” of musical influences—from the Ramones to the Beastie Boys and local legend Twan Mac.Stay tuned for actionable tips for aspiring artists, a glimpse into the Milwaukee‑vs‑the‑world music scene, and a reminder that when words fail, music always speaks.Grab your headphones, hit play, and let the conversation—and the beats—begin.

Punk music branched out in the late 70s / early 80s into a harder, faster, thrashier style than its earlier predecessor. If (as is often claimed) the original wave of punk was a reaction to the complexity of prog and the lack of danger in other forms of popular music, then hardcore was the next phase of that during the era of post-punk. It was about catharsis and screaming out about injustice. Then there was Bad Brains. Welcome to episode 129 of See Hear Podcast. Tim has selected the 2012 documentary Bad Brains: A Band In DC for round table discussion. Bad Brains brought something different to the table for their time. In America in the early eighties, punk bands generally weren't playing reggae music as a regular part of their sets. Certain British bands were combining punk energy with a reggae outlook in their music. Bad Brains had gone from being influenced by the jazz fusion stylings of Return To Forever to being converted to punk via the Sex Pistols (already making them unique). Seeing Bob Marley perform made them convert to Rastafarianism and incorporate reggae as well as hardcore punk into their music – not a hybrid, but two sides of the same coin. The documentary goes back and forth between current day events (at the time of filming) and archival footage of the band to tell their story. We get a worrisome start with a “how-did-we-get-here?” approach to the rest of the film.....a trope I'm quite fond of. In a way, the Bad Brains tale could be the story of millions of bands, but they're seen as hugely exciting pioneers of what they do. Many important bands that followed sang their praises as an influence (Beastie Boys, Nirvana....) HR, their “lead throat” gradually became more and more unstable in his behaviour, and in a time where no one was using the expression “mental health”, his behaviour was probably explained away as “that's just HR”, rather than investigating if there was something wrong. Sadly, Kerry wasn't available, but Tim and I discussed positive mental attitudes, wearing motorcycle helmets on stage, not showing up to gigs, punk that wasn't nihilistic, and much more. The film may be found online at: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6e5wnw If you've been enjoying the show, please consider giving us a favourable review on iTunes and let your friends know that our show exists. Today on another encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to returning (or is it returning, returning, oh well, whatever, never mind), guest Eric Bonerz, son of actor/director Peter Bonerz. We had such a good time talking to Eric in our first conversation, we brought him back to discuss more of the wild and the wacky things we connected on the first time around. Of course, like many of our guests, we discussed the weird and wonderful connection we have to the Oakwood School like so many of our past guests. Be it Peter Rafelson, Carnie Wilson, Jason Everly or many others nothing bonds us closer than Gorilla Glue like Oakwood. But this time around we delve deep into more on his dinner with cartoonist Chuck Jones as a small kid, what it was like mixing a track with Trent Reznor at the infamous house where Sharon Tate was murdered (really),  befriending director Harmony Korine while running the X-Large store in New York for The Beastie Boys, and drumming for Free Kitten from then Sonic Youth's co-hort Kim Gordon & much much more. This is the Rarified Heir podcast and everyone has a story.

Carl Ruiz, Vic Henley and Sherrod Small 3/22Joined by Vic Henley, the Mad Cube, and culinary maestro Carl Ruiz, the studio is buzzing with hilarious debates and nostalgic tales. They dive into a spirited discussion about music covers, sparked by a bluesy rendition of the Beastie Boys' classic by The Record Company. Is it a tribute or a travesty? The gang spars over whether iconic tracks like 'American Pie' or 'Stairway to Heaven' should ever be touched, with Carl staunchly defending the originals and Vic championing creative spins. From there, the conversation spirals into uproarious stories of youthful mischief—think roller-skating escapades with glitter wheels, Central Park's eccentric skaters, and Opie's days as a golf caddy pulling off 'Black Ops' pranks, like tossing golf balls and snapping putters during high-stakes matches. The crew doesn't stop there, diving into heartfelt and frustrating memories of family, shady business deals, and entrepreneurial dreams gone awry, all laced with their signature irreverent humor. It's a rollercoaster of laughs, nostalgia, and raw storytelling that'll keep you hooked! The final year of my radio journey holds a special place in my heart, made even more poignant by the loss of my cherished friends, Carl Ruiz and Vic Henley. Reflecting on that time, I rediscovered the pure passion and exhilaration that drew me to radio in the first place. Amidst the chaos and challenges, we found endless moments of hilarity and camaraderie. Alongside Carl, Vic, and Sherrod Small, we shared unforgettable experiences both on and off the airwaves, our tight-knit bond shining through every episode. That year also marked Carl Ruiz's meteoric rise to stardom, inspiring me to launch the Opie Radio podcast with him. I'm immensely grateful to Erock, Clubsoda Kenny, Paul, and Louis for joining us on this wild ride. Get ready to dive into the rollercoaster of emotions—the highs, the lows, and the laugh-out-loud moments—that defined my last year in radio.
