They explore the impact of these changes on the industry, the balance between maintaining brand heritage and introducing modern creativity, and the broader cultural implications. The conversation also touches on the challenges of balancing financial success with cultural influence and innovation, as well as the role of universality and scarcity in luxury branding. To see more of Ana Andjelic's work, check out her SubstackKeep up with us: YouTube / Instagram / TikTok / Substack

This pairing of stories linked to Mary Shelley's horror story Frankenstein was Richard's idea: in the last episode we looked at the four part 4th Doctor story from early 1976 and Season 13 - The Brain of Morbius, which we've paired this time with 2020's 13th Doctor outing The Haunting of Villa Diodati from Series 12. We'll decide whether these stories have animated us like a bolt of lightning or left us feeling like mouldering corpses. Joining Richard for the discussion are Gav, Giles and Paul. We recorded this episode in August; the first part came out in September and this part has taken until November; sorry for the wait. Gav and James sit down for their third pod in six days (before the big man left on holiday) and leave no stone unturned in their search for fresh chat. AI bands, end-of-days conspiracy theories, cartoon reviews, football analogues, restaurant bloopers, when people leak the wrong band playing ATG and the importance of music press. Muted celebrations, boring narratives — same old Arsenal dominance. This week the lads dissect the 1–0 win over Crystal Palace, where Eze's muted celebration and another set-piece goal kept the machine rolling. Gav, Ells and Justin break down Saka's illness, Odegaard's absence, and why Arsenal's calm control is being mistaken for boredom. We also cover the latest injury worries for Rice, Martinelli, Saliba and Saka, before diving into the weekend's Premier League chaos — Liverpool slipping again, City stumbling at Villa, Bournemouth flying, and the return of VARse: The Clown Office. Finally, we look ahead to the midweek Brighton Cup clash, youth rotation, and whether we've already seen Gabriel Jesus kick his last ball for Arsenal.
Gav and Sinead discuss the events of last week, when there were yet more job losses in Irish sports journalism. This will affect sports fans in a number of ways, from there being fewer experienced people to hold organisations and individuals to account, to less depth and quality in the coverage of sport. Why are some media organisations laying off their most seasoned journalists? Why is there less money in the fourth estate nowadays? How did the internet change the game and why did so many newspapers and websites fall foul of social media algorithm changes? The pair ponder what's next for the industry and Sinead explains why the future for media firms could be a return to more traditional journalistic practices. Was fordern die Gewerkschaften?

Why is it so hard to integrate the GAA, Camogie Association and LGFA? Why should it cost the mooted half a billion euro to do so, and why have the leadership of the GAA been so silent on the matter to date, with the vacuum being filled by naysayers?Sinead and Gav address these and more issues around Integration, and consider how much of the €500 million project cost is down to the ‘centre of excellence culture' which implores county boards to invest more and more money on land and facilities for players earmarked as elite. Also, the FAI have been criticised strongly for not attending Oireachtas Committees. Why not the same volume of headlines for the GAA, Camogie Association and LGFA who have so far not engaged with elected representatives in public despite an invitation to attend Leinster House this month? The Birds is on trial this week. A pheasant surprise or does it make us raven mad? Alex says this horror classic showcases a director at the height of his talent, blending different genres together to make something truly unique. Dave and Mike point out the dated effects, a nonsensical plot and deeply concerning behaviour from Alfred Hitchcock towards his star Tippi Hedren. Mike also reads the synopsis of the film in the style of a crow and there's quiz based on cinematic birds. www.filmsontrial.co.uk/276 Special Guest: Mike.

The dreaded clashfinder, followed by the tsunami of complaints. A bleak annual onslaught every festival promoter dreads. But what actually goes into putting that particular puzzle together?Well there's the contractual obligations, and then the obvious genre concerns, followed by logistics you do know about and then those you don't know about. And where in that tangled web of restrictions do you place bands on the same record label?Gav and James attempt to explain why it's not as simple as doing as they please, no matter how much they'd like to.www.seetickets.com/tour/2-promoters-1-podWe go again, every Thursday morning.

When she saw me running backwards and forwards and getting confused, shouting "oh no I can't organise my thoughts because I'm running backwards and forwards and getting confused", my grandmother used to put a hand on my shoulder and say "more haste, less speed". I looked her square in the eye and said "oh my god you mad hag everyone knows time = distance / speed, that is the most stupid thing I've ever heard". Then I would fall asleep from not being able to find my keys. It is THAT spirit of GET IT DONE that Gav brings to the world when he drives a car: up to - and exceeding! - the speed limit. This time, however, he has been caught, and now the only Zooming he's doing is in a meeting with a speed awareness instructor! (That's a real joke: there are nearly FOUR in this episode.) Meanwhile, Joe brings an angry father into the show. A man who wants to know why his debutante offspring has been scandalised to death by our vulgar utterances. This was a performance lacking in intensity and direction, and save for twenty minutes after making a host of changes, Forest did not threaten the visitors' goal. George and Baz discuss the game, whether Ange is already in trouble, and if he has already lost the fans. The view from the opposition comes from Gav of Ha'way The Podcast and Roker Report. Slam The Gavel welcomes Renata DeMello to the podcast. She is here to discuss her childhood friend's case. Giselle Smiel is a devoted mother, a woman of faith, and a survivor of severe domestic violence who is now facing six felony charges, not because of any criminal act, but for protecting her children in the midst of a high-conflict custody battle. With no criminal record, Giselle has been the sole caregiver to her children for the past five years, consistently prioritizing their safety and well-being. In a devastating turn, the family court Commissioner awarded full custody to the father, who has a documented history of abuse, after Giselle missed a hearing due to her son's medical emergency. Just weeks later, on September 4, 2025, she was arrested and is now being held on $500,000 bail. This well-oiled system punishes survivors, rather than protects them. Despite years of documented abuse and her attempts to comply with co-parenting under dangerous conditions, Giselle was denied a full evidentiary hearing, federally required ADA accommodations, and her rights under state and federal law. Her story is part of a growing national crisis where protective parents are criminalized for safeguarding their children. Renata and others are urgently raising funds to retain a trauma-informed legal team to fight these charges and appeal the custody decision. This is about JUSTICE, not just for Giselle, but for every survivor navigating a system that fails to protect them. Top Gun is on trial this week. Is it a movie Maverick? Or is it a cooked Goose? Dave defends the classic, arguing that it was one of the biggest films of the 80s, with great action sequences and a stellar soundtrack. Gav is in prosecution and counters that the action is short and not very sweet, and that most of the film is focused on a poorly-written love story. There's an impression of Tom Skerritt and a quiz all about movie nicknames. All that plus the usual great debates and banter from the gang. We feel the need. The need to plead... our case! www.filmsontrial.co.uk/275

This pairing of stories linked to Mary Shelley's horror story Frankenstein was Richard's idea: in this episode the four part 4th Doctor story from early 1976 and Season 13 - The Brain of Morbius, which we'll pair next time with 2020's 13th Doctor outing The Haunting of Villa Diodati from Series 12. We'll decide whether these stories have animated us like a bolt of lightning or left us feeling like mouldering corpses. Joining Richard for the discussion are Gav, Giles and, eventually, Paul. Although there seems to be something up with Paul's voice at the start. Please like or share our podcast with people who will enjoy it, so we can build our listener base high for happiness. Richard's other podcast "If It's Hurting, It's not Working" is currently on hiatus, but it's a fun and informative look at work - why we work, how we work, and what makes a great job. And also what makes a great workplace, how to turn things round when we're not enjoying our work and, in the end, how we can all make our work better. War of the Worlds (2005) is on trial this week. Did Spielberg catch lightning in a bottle or would it be better left buried? Alex says this is a modern yet faithful adaptation of the seminal novel by H.G. Wells that deftly weaves horror into the blockbuster experience. Dave feels a saccharine ending as well as odd plot changes mean the impact of the original novel is diluted and the film itself is forgettable. All this with a quiz about other takes on this much-adapted work and an impression of Richard Burton. www.filmsontrial.co.uk/274
