Gary Lineker has been in the news recently – more than usual – after a social media fracas that led him to miss a week of presenting match of the Day and which briefly dominated the news headlines. As we now know that situation was soon sorted – and Gary was quickly back alongside his chums on the MOTD sofa, looking as unruffled as ever. Being centre of the media glare as he was didn't seem to knock Gary off his stride too much – and when you hear about his career playing football, you can understand why. Firstly, if you enjoy the show, please send in your listener questions via instagram - whether they're personal or topics you'd like us to cover. We'll be addressing more of these in our new episode format (read on for more)... An update on how we'll be running the podcast in future: to give you all a more consistent posting schedule, we're moving to a seasonal format so we can keep up with weekly posts (if not even more frequent)! 2 things on this...we're moving to a more typical 'season' structure. This means that we'll post every week for a stretch of 5-10 episodes, then take a break every couple months or so to replenish our backlog of episodes to come - during this period, we'll reshare older episodes that newer listeners will have missed. Secondly, we're also adding "hot take" episodes for about 50% of our episodes, where we'll look at current affairs topics through a philosophical lense, and discussing listener questions - first one will be on Gary Lineker and refugees. Those listener questions we find most interesting will be spun into full episodes (if we don't end up rambling a whole episodes worth, there and then!) Excited for all that's to come with these changes...onwards and upwards friends :) Support the show: Please leave us a review! It's international break and we wanted to try and do something funny, so we jumped on the Gary Lineker wave and called out some fascism. But we did it any way with PK HUMBLE, JORDY, STEVO THE MADMAN, SAVAGE DAN, MARGS, MILES and TEGO.

For this special episode the Rev'd Dr Jamie Franklin was joined by Robin Monotti Graziadei, the producer of the new film 'The Book of Vision' starring Charles Dance and Lotte Verbeek, directed by Carlo Hinterman and executively produced by Terrence Malick. The Book of Vision is about healing, medicine and the human soul. It tells the story of a real Prussian doctor from the eighteenth century whose approach was medicine was one of listening and developing a human connection with his patients. This approach is contrasted with the emerging modern idea of human beings as machines that simply need to be tinkered with in order to produce health.Robin and Jamie talked about the relevance of the film's themes to the response to Covid-19 and what that response revealed about society's understanding of healing, health and medicine. They also spoke about the importance of a holistic approach to health that involves not only preventing ourselves from becoming ill but cultivating and nourishing our souls as well as our bodies.Support us on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/irreverend) or Buy Me a Coffee (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/irreverend)For your merchandise needs: https://irreverendmerch.bss.designLinks:Prevent Watchdog Blacklist: CS Lewis and more details on the list Gary Lineker owns the inept BBCSNP Leadership - Humza Yusuf, up to birth sex-selective abortion Notices:Find links to our episodes, social media accounts and ways to support us at https://www.irreverendpod.com!Thursday Circles: http://thursdaycircle.comJamie's Good Things Substack: https://jamiefranklin.substack.comIrreverend Sermon Audio: https://irreverendsermonaudio.buzzsprout.comSupport the show
EPISODE 153: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:42) SPECIAL COMMENT: Wait - what? After a lurid week of claiming the entire January 6 Insurrection was just "peaceful sight-seers" disturbed by "hooligans" and insisting that the greatest conspiracy in the history of the country had been effected to transform the country and weaponize this and lie about that, Tucker Carlson suddenly, abruptly, completely and without explanation DROPPED THE JANUARY 6TH VIDEO STORY LAST NIGHT. No Jacob Chansley. No withheld video. No punish Liz Cheney. It's quiet. It's too quiet. What happened? The Department of Justice released three videos implicating Chansley, putting him within feet of a Senator (probably Chuck Grassley) during mid-evacuation. A New York State Supreme Court judge let the OTHER voting machine company's defamation lawsuit against Fox proceed. For all we know, Rupert Murdoch called Carlson and said "shut your pie hole." But the sudden silence was almost universal. Seen a tweet from a Congressman lately? Even Elon Musk stopped trying to convince people - on Saturday. B-Block (19:26) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Yes, you read right. South Carolina state representative introduces bill to institute death penalty for women who get abortions (be pro-life or we'll kill you). A (dubious) report CNN may fire Chris Licht before Labor Day (22:14) IN SPORTS: Garrapolo to Raiders; Bauer to Japan; Unknown Nicaraguan WBC star gets big league contract; in memory of Joe Pepitone. (25:43) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Wall Street Journal blames SVB failure on bank not having enough white guys; Trump talks about education, like he ever had one; and Ron DeSantis can do an interview AND throw a baseball while wearing high heels! C-Block (34:00) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Sloane in California (35:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Sportscaster Gary Lineker beats the BBC. It ends his suspension, he keeps expressing his political opinions. Utter deja vu for me. In 2010 MSNBC suspended me for doing something I had the right to do, vowed to not pay me for months. That was Friday. By Tuesday I was back on the air and they owed me much, much more money than they had owed me on Friday.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Due to scheduling issues we are unable to bring you a new episode this week so instead we have delved into the archives to bring you a Classic Blank episode with Gary Lineker. Gary is in the new this week after being suspended by Match of the Day for refusing to apologise for tweeting his political views. Gary spoke to us way back in 2018 about his twitter usage and you can hear him talk about that at 50:05 in this episode. Gary Lineker is a former professional footballer and current sports broadcaster. He holds England's record for goals in FIFA World Cup finals, with 10 scored and is England's third highest top scorer. His media career began with the BBC, where he still presents the flagship football programme Match of the Day since the late 1990s. He has also worked for Al Jazeera Sports, Eredivisie Live, NBC Sports Network and currently hosts BT Sport's coverage of the UEFA Champions League. Gary very kindly invited Giles and Jim to his house in South West London back in 2018 for a cuppa and a chat about all things BLANK. We talked about making big decisions at a young age and the feeling of getting to a point where you're confident in what you do. Gary also talked openly about those moments off the field, including when his first son George was diagnosed with leukaemia as a child, had affected him and how football helped him through that time. With Christmas just around the corner, Giles and Gary share some cooking tips while Jim ponders what a waterbath is. @blankpod @eliistender @jimdalycomedy @garylineker blankpodcast2018@gmail.com

Toby and James begin the week talking about James's health (not good), Toby's failure to make it across London using public transport (which James thinks is all part of the plan to keep us locked in our homes), and the Gary Lineker scandal (which James thinks was cooked up to distract people from the Great Reset and other, equally important things taking place under our noses). In other news we cover the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank, the Free Speech Union's recent victory on non-crime hate incidents and, in Culture Corner, Finding Michael (Disney+), Fleischman is in Trouble, Welcome to Wrexham (Disney+ in the UK, Hulu+ in the US) and QPR's first win in 13 games.
