The game of rugby this weekend is starting to take on a life of it's own. Some have called it the biggest game of rugby since the last World Cup Final featuring the same two teams - and this is even though the Lions have just toured Australia in a record-breaking financial success. But it is going to be a cracker. It's been fortified by Eden Park's record as a fortress - 30 years and 50 games where the All Blacks have not been defeated. We're vulnerable as the last test against Argentina showed, meanwhile the South Africans seem genuinely inspired by playing at Eden Park. It's been 8 years since they have done that. The revenue is generated by them, and I wonder if it's been purposeful to keep them away from it for so long. And the French have been in the media as they were the last to beat New Zealand at the Garden of Eden way back in 1994. Interestingly the first time I went to an All Blacks game, only to see them lose. They too have been rhapsodising about the mythical qualities of what is a pretty patchy stadium. There's a very real chance we're going to lose this one. Graham Henry has been quoted as saying there's something not quite right with the team's mentality. Yet it's a reminder that if the biggest game of rugby in the world is to be played, it had to played at Eden Park. The good people of Christchurch who are about to take possession of a spiffing new stadium will argue that Eden Park's self declaration that the park is our national stadium is misplaced. But that's not true. Eden Park is sacred ground and Auckland still needs to figure out how to make it better, because it's the best place for what is about to happen this weekend. Brian Kerr's voice is instantly familiar as a broadcaster, and his contribution to Irish football is extraordinary. Born in 1953, his first coaching role came while barely a teenager. In the 1980s he would come to manage the team he had supported since his childhood, St Patrick's Athletic, before going on to historic victories with Ireland's youth teams in the 1990s. In this discussion, we touch on everything from the 1966 World Cup Final to the visit of the Al-Helal Football Academy in Gaza to Dublin. A little language in this one. With thanks to Naoise Nunn and all at Mindfield/Electric Picnic. For more on Kerr's story, see Joe O'Rourke's ‘The People's Champions' exploring his 1989/1990 league winning side. Welcome to the first episode in a new series called The TikTok Gameplan. Over the course of several episodes across the year, we'll be exploring the social giant's approach to sport through the prism of some of its key executives and content creators. In this first episode of the series, we dig into TikTok's Gameplan for magnifying women's sport. To help us do that, we called upon the services of the Queen of TikTok herself, England goalkeeping legend Mary Earps, who announced her retirement from international football in May 2025, having won 53 caps and helped her country to a Euros win and a World Cup Final. She has also found herself central to the battle for mainstream recognition that women's football has been fighting, particularly through the campaign to get Nike to manufacture and sell her replica goalkeeper jerseys for women. Joining Mary and Leaders' Managing Director Laura McQueen were TikTok's North American sports lead Kat Marquez, and former basketball player and coach Chloe Pavlech, who is now Chief Growth Officer of start-up 3x3 women's basketball league Unrivaled.

The 2026 World Cup is going to be different. Three host nations and 48 participating teams are perhaps the most notable changes to the tournament's format, but, as purveyors of all things soccer culture, one new addition has piqued our interest the most: a Super Bowl-style halftime show during the final. FIFA president Gianni Infantino has called it a "can't-miss event," and many have speculated as to who is the right artist to perform. Including us. On the latest episode of the Urban Pitch Podcast, we go through our picks to headline the landmark performance, from Drake to Taylor Swift and beyond. In addition, we get into some of our favorite kits from America's lower leagues, a conversation spurred by the new Forward Madison home kits that the club was kind enough to send us!
