POPULARITY
For Shane's pick of an album that has, "been around awhile" he selected Dispatch's 1996 debut "Silent Steeples." If you haven't heard of Dispatch you either slept on the biggest independent band made popular by file sharing in the 90's...or you are Trevor. Dispatch is a difficult band to classify, but this debut features acoustic guitar driven lyrical worlds that give hints of reggae and jam band flavors that will become part of their signature sound with subsequent releases. Shane has fun discussing songs that have a history for him and introducing Trevor to perhaps the most popular band you've never heard of.

We did not get married yet, we both had our own jobs and separate apartments. This was no longer practice adulting - it was the real world! For Jocelyn, finding a job was difficult! She probably applied to 50 or 60 jobs and it was exhausting. There were not a lot of jobs, no real big companies, none that fit her degree anyways. She probably got 40 rejection letters and it was discouraging! One day we were out jogging and ran into a woman named Francis. Francis happened to be the Vice President of Human Resources at a company in the next town over. We got to talking and she said, “well, there just so happens to be job for a Technical Writer.” Basically, this company manufactures commercial dishwashers. She was one of the first calls I had gotten back! I came back in when the President was there, I was super nervous! Basically, he offered me a job for a Marketing Assistant. I took it. Of course one month later on September 11th, everything changed. It was a scary time for everyone. A few weeks later the markets crashed and a ton of people lost their jobs - including Francis. I ended up surviving a lot of layoffs over the years at that job. For Shane he was in an office job working for his dad' insurance agency - if you know anything about Shane this is NOT his thing! Needless to say life after college was not what we had pictured in our minds! We had some great opportunities along the way and this is the chapter of our lives that actually truly shaped who we are - the way you know us today!!
For Trevor's pick of an album that has been around awhile, he chose Sunny Day Real Estate's third album, 1998's 'How It Feels To Be Something On.' This is an album that played a pivotal roll in Trevor's coming of age years as he was living just outside of the bands home city of Seattle at the time he discovered it. For Shane, this was his first time listening to this album, and it was fun for both of them to share their experiences hearing and interpreting lyrics that are clearly meaningful though perhaps not always with concise meaning. Though he's heard it hundreds of times, unpacking it again with a fresh set of ears helped Trevor discover components of this album he had never explored before. Coupling that with their companion episode to this one where they got to interview members of the band themselves, this was truly a rewarding experience. Finally, at the end of the episode, Trevor reveals a surprise to Shane that made him happy...even though it might mean Shane’s going to have to do more of the episode editing in the future.
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how I, and the people I'm lucky enough to meet and work with, try to make stuff. On this episode, Ashley Killips and I got the chance to interview actor, director, writer, and producer Shane Hagedorn. If you pay attention to the Michigan film scene, you've probably heard of Shane or some of the work with which he's been associated. Wild Faith, Ashes of Eden, 40 Nights, Man's Best Friend, Eternal Code - he's appeared in and often been quite involved behind the scenes on a lot of well-regarded Michigan-based films. He likes to be constantly creating…or maybe more accurately, he MUST be constantly creating. For Shane, it's all about the need to continue putting things out to entertain people, to work hard at it, but also enjoy what you're doing and the people you're working with. We'll cover all that and a lot more. We really enjoyed talking to Shane and think you'll get something out of it.Hope you and your family are healthy and safe. Last stop on the fandom train! Kyle's pretty new to this, but seems to like it. Meanwhile, Shane has a history of intimate moments with NCAA Football, many that are devastating. For Shane, it's like a car wreck in which 100 puppies died, but the flames are still so beautiful (and fluffy!), he can't look away. Strangely enough, you can't spell "Wolverines" without the words "Win" and "Loser:" a painful dichotomy. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/frustration-nation/message
For Shane's January pick of an older album that has "been around awhile," he selected Jason Isbell's 2015 release "Something More Than Free." Trevor and Shane quickly discovered after 4+ hours of discussing this album that they are both kind of Isbell fanboys. They fortunately managed to condense the episode down to an easily digestible 2.5 hours of content. This was such a great album that continued to reveal more and more layers of depth with each listen. Shane and Trevor hope you can appreciate that it took them this long to do the album justice. They challenge you to listen to the whole darn episode and become a fanboy/girl yourself!
Yeah we know this was supposed to be "Stalemate", but after such an historic occasion as the G1 Supercard, it just seemed appropriate that two people for whom ROH has been such a huge part of their lives talk on the subject. For Shane it was experienced on a phone through the Honor Club, but for Jeff it was experienced firsthand as he sat front row in The Garden!Join our hosts as they talk their respective feelings on this landmark event, discuss the actual matches in varying detail, ladders, movez, the future of Jay White, and recycling ideas from TNA of all companies...yeah, that happened. It's the G1 Supercard on this week's "An Honorable Mention" and it's brought to you by the Creative Control Network on our NEW hosting home Spreaker.com!!!-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=ROH/NJPW G1 SupercardApril 6, 2019Madison Square GardenNYC, NYDark Six Man Tag Team MatchHana Kimura, Stella Grey & Sumie Sakai vs. Jenny Rose & Oedo Tai (Hazuki & Kagetsu)Honor Rumble MatchBad Luck Fale vs. Brian Milonas vs. BUSHI vs. Chase Owens vs. Cheeseburger vs. Colt Cabana vs. Delirious vs. Hirooki Goto vs. Jonathan Gresham vs. Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Kenny King vs. King Haku vs. LSG vs. PJ Black vs. Rhett Titus vs. Rocky Romero vs. Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Shaheem Ali vs. Shingo Takagi vs. SHO vs. The Beer City Bruiser vs. The Great Muta vs. TK O'Ryan vs. Tomohiro Ishii vs. Tracy Williams vs. Vinny Marseglia vs. Will Ferrara vs. YOH vs. YOSHI-HASHIROH World Television Title / NEVER Openweight Title MatchJeff Cobb (c) vs. Will Ospreay (c)Singles MatchDalton Castle vs. RushROH Women Of Honor World Title MatchMayu Iwatani (c) vs. Kelly KleinNew York City Six Man Tag Team Street FightBully Ray, Shane Taylor & Silas Young vs. Flip Gordon & Lifeblood (Juice Robinson & Mark Haskins)IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title Three Way MatchTaiji Ishimori (c) vs. Bandido vs. Dragon LeeIWGP Tag Team Title / ROH Tag Team Title Four Way MatchGuerrillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) (w/Jado) (c) vs. Villain Enterprises (Brody King & PCO) (c) vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (EVIL & SANADA) vs. The Briscoes (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe)RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Title MatchZack Sabre Jr. (c) vs. Hiroshi TanahashiIWGP Intercontinental Title MatchTetsuya Naito (c) vs. Kota IbushiROH World Title Three Way Ladder MatchJay Lethal (c) vs. Marty Scurll vs. Matt TavenIWGP Heavyweight Title MatchJay White (w/Gedo) (c) vs. Kazuchika Okada---------------------------------------An Honorable Mention Podcast is hosted by Jeff Schwartz & Shane Hagadorn every Tuesday on the Creative Control Network. Reports of the death of media relations have been greatly exaggerated. According to practitioner and entrepreneur, Shane Allison, media relations accounted for 51% of agency revenues in 2018. As such it remains a core skill, but in many ways the way we practice media relations has not evolved from when we used fax machines to reach journalists. Shane has launched a new platform, Public Address, bringing much needed innovation and technology to improve the practice of media relations and help remove the friction that can exist between PR practitioners and journalists. In this episode, Shane supports the view of David Skapinker in Smoke Signal episode 8 that there are now more journalists and media outlets than ever before. As a profession we’ve gone from interacting with 2500 media outlets in 2013 to nearly 5000 media outlets today. In the same time we’ve seen nearly 1000 journalists added to the population of journalists. As Shane puts it: “You look at that explosion of media outlets you understand why the PR is struggling to meet the needs of journalists. There are so many different titles and outlets that we need to be communicating with, and pitching to, on a daily basis. “As a result we have never been busier as an industry. The number of people employed in PR has doubled in the last 8 years… We are putting more and more resources to get the same impact as we would have done five years ago with a placement in mainstream media… So the net effect for the PR profession has been a declining productivity." For Shane, the PR profession has often confused innovation with diversification. So we've innovated by diversifying away from media relations - we’ve introduced video, social, content creation, community management among other skills. But, in Shane's view, that is now holding us back, we need to come back to our core and ask how we innovate in this core skill of media relations. Shane is excited about what he sees as the imminent golden age of media relations in a time when media relations has never been more valuable for brands – the process can be improved and evolve but the discipline will remain at the core of what we do. In the news Earlier this month I attended the launch of the 2019 Edelman Trust Barometer. In the news this episode I discuss three of the key findings: Media is becoming more trusted than ever Trust in social media as a source of news and information continues to be persistently low, especially in Australia A trust gap has arisen between men and women – women are less trusting Take a listen and you can view the full results here.
November 2003 was a huge month in the young life of ROH, and for our co-host Shane Hagadorn as well. It was the very first time Ring of Honor ran a double-shot weekend, and those two events were also the culmination of 5 shows from October 16th - November 29th; not a lot now but at the time, it was totally uncharted territory. For Shane, it was the month he left Michigan & moved to Pennsylvania to start the ROH school under CM Punk, while this event marked the very 1st one he worked as part of the crew.Join Shane and Jeff as they dip back in the waters of late 2003 and discuss the experiences of being on the other side of the guardrail for the first time, of meeting some of the locker room, and the experiences of meeting a hero in Raven.Of course they discuss the event itself, more Field of Honor "love", the distasteful end of the DVD production, and a whole lot more!-=-=-=-=-=-=The Conclusion11/28/03Fairfield, CTDark Tag Team MatchBison & Slugga vs. The Solution (Havok & Papadon)Dark MatchJimmy Cash vs. Slyk Wagner BrownDark MatchAllison Danger vs. Sarah StockDark Tag Team MatchSpecial K (Angel Dust & Hydro) vs. The Ring Crew Express (Dunn & Marcos)Tag Team MatchThe Backseat Boyz (Johnny Kashmere & Trent Acid) vs. The Outcast Killaz (Diablo Santiago & Oman Tortuga)Present vs Future MatchHomicide (w/Julius Smokes) vs. John WaltersROH Tag Team Title #1 Contendership Scramble MatchFast Eddie & Hotstuff Hernandez vs. Special K (Cloudy & Dixie) vs. The Carnage Crew (DeVito & Loc) vs. The SAT (Joel Maximo & Jose Maximo)Present vs. Future MatchChristopher Daniels (w/Allison Danger) vs. Jimmy RavePresent vs. Future MatchJosh Daniels vs. Steve Corino (w/Guillotine LeGrande)Field Of Honor Block A Final MatchMatt Stryker vs. XavierField Of Honor Block B Final Three Way MatchBJ Whitmer vs. Colt Cabana vs. Dan Maff (w/Allison Danger)ROH Tag Team Title MatchThe Briscoes (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe) (c) vs. AJ Styles & ROH World Champion Samoa JoeLottery From Hell Old School Steel Cage MatchCM Punk vs. RavenAn Honorable Mention Podcast is hosted by Jeff Schwartz & Shane Hagadorn every Tuesday on the Creative Control Network. The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast
Shane Purnell is a 15 year plus veteran in the IT industry where he still works today. While he loves what he does during the day, Shane's passion lies in public speaking, online business and teaching others to get dialed into their inspiration and motivation. So In his spare time, he is a blogger, a speaker and the host of the Platform Giant podcast. On the podcast and his blog, Shane's goal is to help you, build your own platform, so that YOU can stand head and shoulders above the crowd. WHAT IS A PLATFORM AND WHY BUILD ONE I asked Shane to describe what a platform is to him. For Shane, a platform is a means of gaining visibility, whatever that visibility may be. Your platform provides you with the opportunity to influence others. Shane sees a platform as the act of positioning, while positioning is how you want to be seen by the world, or what you want to be known for. Both positioning and a platform require an audience and not just any audience it has to be one that you build through your message. Building your platform in this way will help people know, like and trust you. And as we've said before, once people begin to know, like and trust your brand, your platform, they will begin to do business with you. Getting to this point, however, will take some good old fashioned work on your part. You'll need to know yourself and how you add value to the world. In other word's, you need to become self-aware. Shane is quick to point that getting to this point of self-awareness will not happen overnight. Just like there is no shortcut to success, there is also not a short cut to determining your platform. You have to do the work. You have to become self-aware.
