My guest today is Charles Ellis, founder of Greenwich Associates, longtime member of Yale's investment committee, and author of more than 20 books, including the classic Winning the Loser's Game. In today's episode, Charley reflects on writing the first major book on share repurchases 50 years ago, when the idea was so foreign that Goldman mailed it to 1,000 corporations as a “legitimizer.” Charley also walks us through his new book, Great American Investments: A History of the Bold Initiatives that Shaped a Nation, covering 14 audacious public investments from the Louisiana Purchase to the Marshall Plan. He explains how each came down to one or two obsessed individuals, why Alaska turned out to be the bargain of the century, and how Frances Perkins muscled Social Security into law. As the episode winds down, he shares the lunch with Sandy Gottesman in the early 1970s that led him to buy Berkshire Hathaway at $700 a share — and hold it ever since. Love Island Daily June 2, 2026 Love Island USA Season 8 kicks off with a premiere packed full of new faces, bold moves, and a villa already stirred by early drama. Kirsten MacInnis delivers the Daily update, walking through the cast's standout introductions, the season's first wild group challenge, and a twist that immediately tests the original couples. The women make their entrance with big personalities and even bigger stories, from Kenzie's dance and nursing background to Beatriz' shiny Paralympic credentials and Trinity's unapologetic “personality hire” vibes. The men follow with connections to track and field, police work, and model bravado, setting the stage for interesting pairings. A rapid-fire kissing challenge quickly makes things awkward and unforgettable, especially for Bryce, whose “turtle tongue” technique is called out by Kenzie. First-day couplings deliver surprises, awkward mismatches, and more than a little anxiety as Islanders pair up or end up chosen by default. Major shakeups arrive fast with a twist-led re-coupling: Islanders must choose whether to stay in their pair or step forward to explore. The drama ramps up as two bombshells, Gabriel and Kayda, crash the villa, promptly splitting couples and turning heads, especially when the newcomers choose who to whisk away for private time, leaving everyone else reeling. Kenzie frets over Zach's lack of blonde dating history, throwing their couple into question Sincere's popularity sparks early competition at the coupling door The kissing challenge exposes both chemistry and cringe, especially with Bryce's infamous approach Trinity and Bryce face off over a seven-year age gap and different priorities Gabriel and Kayda arrive, immediately forcing Islanders to reveal loyalty or intrigue Loyalties get tested just as everyone settles in—who will play it safe, and who's open to fast change? New couples and broken connections hint at more shake-ups to come. www.teachhoops.com Team camp isn't for finding your best player. You already know who your top 2–3 are. Team camp is where you discover your bench mob—the 7th, 8th, and 9th players who decide close games, survive foul trouble, and change momentum with effort and trust plays. This episode gives coaches a simple evaluation system to identify depth without guessing—and without getting fooled by one hot shooting game. You're not grading talent at camp. You're grading trust. Ask this on every possession:Can I trust this kid to win a possession? Not score. Win. Sprint back and match up in transition Talk early on defense (screens, help, matchups) Be in the right help spot Block out with contact Make the simple pass Reset fast after a mistake (no sulking, no blaming) Toughness under real conditions: Second game of the day Early morning tip Game after a loss Possession after a turnover Response after missed shots or bad calls “Losers limp. Winners respond.” Bench mob players respond fast. To build depth, give players identity and evaluate them with clarity: 1) The Stopper Can guard a scorer without fouling Changes matchups even without scoring 2) The Rebounder Hits first, pursues second, finishes the play Creates extra possessions 3) The Connector Makes teammates better Talks, moves the ball, cuts, keeps pace flowing “Lineup glue” Use this with assistants during camp games. Each item = a “win”: Sprint back and match up Early talk on screens Great box out Deflection Charge attempt Paint-touch pass Great cut Extra pass leading to a shot Next-play response after a mistake (the biggest one) Camp is a blur. You will forget. After each game, write down: Two players who earned trust Two players who lost trust By the end of camp, patterns show up. Now you're making decisions based on habits—not one good shooting stretch. Team camp is NOT for installing your whole playbook It's for discovering who you can trust when it matters Depth is built through clear roles and measurable impact Your bench should compete for “winning plays,” not shots The best teams aren't perfect—they have guys 7–9 who change games If you want camp evaluation sheets, open gym templates, practice plans, and offseason systems you can copy and paste, visit:www.teachhoops.com The Big Coaching PointWhat “Trust” Looks Like (Possession-Winning Habits)What Team Camp Reveals Better Than Any PracticeThe 3 Roles to Label at CampThe Bench Mob Scoreboard (Track Impact, Not Points)The “2-Name Rule” After Every Camp GameKey TakeawaysCall to Action Learn more about your ad choices. Why are these critiques missing? In this episode, Matt and Brian discuss:* Jared Polis…what the fuck?! (Redux.)* Jake Auchinchloss…what the fuck?!* Democratic National Committee…what the fuck?!Are all these intraparty recriminations why Dems seem like they're MIA in the fight against Trump? Or are there structural issues that prevent Democrats from driving attention to GOP weaknesses? Are progressive and mainstream media outlets covering Democratic infighting because that's where the conflict is? Or are their readers and viewers simply more interested in Democratic factionalism than in the partisan food fight? In this episode of the Loan Officer Podcast, host Dustin Owen is joined by Marketing Mike and Karina Mojica as they take a deep dive into the latest mortgage industry data sourced from RETR, focusing on trends and developments projected for early 2026. The team discusses comprehensive findings that highlight significant movement within the industry, including the notable statistic that over 10,000 loan originators have switched companies during this period. This mass migration underscores the dynamic nature of the mortgage landscape and the ongoing search for better opportunities among professionals. The analysis reveals that, among all origination channels, brokers stand out as the only segment demonstrating net positive growth in both the number of originators and overall loan volume. This trend suggests a growing preference for the broker model, possibly due to its flexibility and client-centric approach. The hosts break down the performance of major players, noting that CrossCountry Mortgage led the industry in volume gains, solidifying its position as a top destination for high-performing originators. In contrast, Rocket Mortgage experienced the largest losses in both originator count and volume, prompting a discussion about the challenges faced by larger, more traditional lenders in adapting to current market shifts. Throughout the episode, Dustin, Mike, and Karina explore the underlying factors driving these trends, such as the impact of mergers and acquisitions, evolving business models, and the increasing importance of technology and innovation in the mortgage process. They emphasize that for loan originators aiming to succeed in today's highly competitive environment, it is crucial to align with growth-oriented companies that offer structured coaching, robust support systems, and ongoing educational opportunities. The hosts stress that continuous professional development and adaptability are key to thriving amid rapid industry changes, and they encourage listeners to be proactive in seeking out organizations that prioritize both personal and professional growth. By the end of the episode, listeners gain valuable insights into the current state and future direction of the mortgage industry, as well as practical advice for navigating career decisions in a market defined by constant evolution and opportunity. For this Memorial Day weekend edition of the Deadpod, we're traveling to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, for the Grateful Dead's spring tour stop on May 8, 1981. This is early‑'80s Brent Mydland era, and the band sounds sharp and energized: Jerry's in good voice, Brent's keys add color and bounce, and the rhythm section keeps everything moving with plenty of drive and nuance. In this first installment we feature the opening set, a compact but very satisfying run that opens with "Jack Straw" and "Peggy‑O," moves through "Me and My Uncle," "Big River," "Loser," and "Althea," and builds to a strong "Let It Grow" before closing with "Don't Ease Me In." Next week we'll return to Nassau for the second set, highlighted by a big "Shakedown Street" opener, a deep "Terrapin Station" into "Playin' in the Band" sequence, and a powerful closing stretch that feels just right for the start of summer. I hope you enjoy this slice of May 1981 from Nassau. Thomas Massie's Democrat friends welcome him to the party of LOSERS. PLUS, Scott Rasmussen, author of the new book Out of Touch: The Elite One Percent and the Battle for America's Soul, president of RMG Research, and founder of the Napolitan Institute, tells Shaun about his confidence in Americans who still believe in American principles versus those with postgraduate degrees who are highly out of touch with the rest of the nation. And Scott 'The Cow Guy' Shellady, host of RFD-TV's Cow Guy Close, talks to Shaun about why there is low consumer confidence even though President Trump is turning the economy around, the wealth tax moving its way across the country, and if Congress really understands how huge the debt is.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today we're talking about the thing underneath everything: our feelings—and how hard we work to avoid them. Why is it easier to get mad than admit we're scared? Why can a feeling that lasts 90 seconds keep us stuck for hours (or years)? And why does it so often feel like everyone else is doing life better than we are? We get into anger as a mask, anxiety spirals, the “loser” feeling no one wants to admit, and the relationship dynamics—hello, chooser vs. follower—that shape how we show up with the people we love. This one is about stopping the spin… and coming back to yourself. - Why anger is often covering something deeper - The “90-second feeling” and how to let it pass - How overthinking keeps you stuck in anxiety - Why comparison makes you feel like you're failing - Relationship patterns that quietly take over Also listen to: The 90 Second Rule: Feel Your Feelings. Yes, Donald Trump originated the 2020 “stolen” election lie, and yes, Trump is the biggest sore loser in all of human history. But my entire former political party echoes Trump's lie, and they've all willingly become sore losers. Such a damn shame. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode Ray relives the struggles he went through trying to order a pizza out in the county and how it almost ruined Mother's Day. Lunchbox went to play some golf on Friday but the people in the clubhouse tried to screw him over to keep him off the course. Plus there was an intense battle over the batting cage at the Dodgers game on Saturday and it all came down to who called DIBS first. Also when are dudes going to get it through their heads that your female doctors don't want to date their patients? We would appreciate no comments about Victor Wembanyama, his elbow, and the San Antonio Spurs losing last night. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
