In this episode of the Knowledge Base Ninjas podcast, we speak with Kylee Thornton, Technical Writer at Blue White Industries. With less than a year of experience in the field, Kylee shares how she stepped into technical writing through an internship and quickly embraced the fast-paced challenges of the manufacturing industry. She talks about how important it is to stay consistent in your writing, from tone to structure, to build trust and clarity for the reader. Kylee also explains the value of setting urgency protocols so high-priority tasks don't overwhelm the team, and how keeping documents user-focused, not writer-focused, makes information more accessible when it matters most. She stresses that good documentation is not just about writing, it's about proactive communication, staying updated, and recognizing that one change in a system can ripple across many documents. Kylee also shares how she uses AI as a helpful assistant, not a replacement, for her work. Catch the full conversation on the Knowledge Base Ninjas podcast for valuable takeaways and pro tips. Stay tuned for expert insights and actionable strategies you don't want to miss out on.

This podcast is a must listen for the archery community. I'm speaking with James Yates who is an Engineer, Backcountry Outdoorsman, Technical Writer, Husband/Father and Accomplished Hunter. James is fascinated with archery accuracy and forgiveness and finding non bias information that will help those who need it in the archery community. James just conducted a great arrow test in conjunction with Precision Cut Archery & Easton Archery collecting data of several aspects of arrow flight. In particular, to study how an arrow's components (vanes, shaft diameter, shaft length, point tip type, etc.) affect ballistic properties such as aerodynamic drag and restorative lift (how an out-of-tune arrow corrects itself), and therefore, how an arrow build can be optimized for specific purposes, such as hunting different species (with different broadheads) and various target archery events. What I appreciated about this test is that Easton has revealed their bullet proof shooting machine for the first time publicly giving the consumers to archery a deeper look at what testing methods are usually happening behind the scenes. James and the team were at the Easton Foundation Center documenting evidence of different aspects of arrow flight, cause and affects, downrange ballistics, pairing vanes &  broadheads.  This podcast tees up the information that will later be released for all to see.

In this episode of the Cherryleaf Podcast, we explore the challenges of receiving and responding to criticism as a technical writer. Documentation plays a crucial role in user experience, and receiving feedback—whether constructive or harsh—can be an opportunity for growth. We discuss practical strategies for handling feedback, evaluating its validity, and implementing improvements to enhance documentation quality. Key Topics Covered: ✅ Why receiving feedback (even negative) is better than receiving none ✅ How to separate personal feelings from professional criticism ✅ The importance of acknowledging user feedback and addressing concerns ✅ Types of criticism: Constructive vs. Unconstructive ✅ Methods for evaluating the validity of feedback ✅ Tools and techniques to measure documentation quality (e.g., IBM Quality Matrix, analytics, usability testing) ✅ Addressing common documentation challenges: clarity, findability, audience mismatch, and linking ✅ Steps for implementing improvements and tracking their impact ✅ Preventative measures for reducing future criticism Key Takeaways: Criticism is not personal – It's about improving the documentation, not attacking the writer. Acknowledging feedback is crucial to building trust and ensuring continuous improvement. Evaluating feedback critically helps differentiate between valid concerns and personal preferences. Quality measurement techniques (analytics, support ticket trends, usability testing) can validate feedback. Structured improvements through linking, clearer writing, audience targeting, and prioritization can make a big impact. Continuous monitoring is necessary to ensure long-term effectiveness. “A pure EV does not have an internal combustion engine on board, whereas a hybrid does. So, the two vehicles share most the same electric powertrain components. Both hybrids and EVs are going to have one or more electric motors, a high voltage battery, inverter, a converter, those kind of components. But with a hybrid, a non-plugin hybrid, the high voltage battery is recharged with the gas engine and also through regenerative braking. Whereas if you're just dealing with the pure EV, that is going to get charged through the grid, either a plug-book charger or your home charger.” Mia Bevacqua on Electric Ladies Podcast Electric vehicle sales are doubling year after year these days, and nearly every automaker has a range of electric vehicles either on the road or in production to hit the road over the next few years.  Six automakers have announced they are phasing out the internal combustion engine vehicles that run on gas.  Though EVs are still only 9% of all U.S. car sales, anyone who owns or drives a vehicle is all going to be in market for an EV or driving one at some point soon. So, what do we need to know? Listen to Mia Bevacqua Chief Technical Writer at CarParts.com – and a former lifelong auto-mechanic – explain it to host Joan Michelson on Electric Ladies podcast.   You'll hear: What the differences are between the types of EVs and hybrids. The differences in charging systems How batteries differ for different EVs What to know about used electric vehicles, before you buy one. Plus, insightful career advice …. “One thing I've learned is don't let your gender define your role in whatever industry you're in. I mean, I've tried thinking myself as an auto professional, not a female auto professional, and that seems to have gotten me pretty far. And I guess another thing would be, never stop learning. So always look for those online classes, reading, taking seminars, because, no matter what you're in, it's always going to be changing and you need to …stay relevant.” Mia Bevacqua on Electric Ladies podcast You'll also want to listen to: Maureen Kline, Pirelli Tires, Sustainability head Neha Palmer, CEO/Cofounder of TeraWatt Infrastructure Katie Sloan, Southern California Edison, eMobility Jackie Birdsall, Toyota, Senior Engineer, Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles Margaret Lewis, New Flyer electric buses Subscribe to our newsletter to receive our podcasts, blog, events and special coaching offers..
