Steven Conway and Jeremy Finestone are joined by Chris Samsa for the latest edition of Speaking of Strong Style! The trio looked at the first two nights of action from the New Japan Cup, one of which was the 52nd Anniversary show. They discussed Tetsuya Naito's drawing power after a strong crowd showed up for the heavyweight champion's match against junior heavyweight champion, SHO. They also discussed tournament matches such as TJP versus David Finlay, Jack Perry's NJPW debut against Shota Umino, Tomohiro Ishii versus Chase Owens, and how matches like YOSHI-HASHI versus KENTA can be used to set up title matches in the future. Chris also shared some of his data and unique statistical analysis regarding the tournament, and who fans feel will go deep into the Cup tournament. They also discussed the overall feeling in the air regarding fans and the state of New Japan. Do they have real cause for concern, and what's the reason for the recent feelings of near-existential dread for the company? Jeremy, Steven and Chris also looked at the schedule for Best of the Super Juniors and what it tells us about the direction of that division. The trio shared their feelings and kicked around ideas for the future.

Welcome to the Squared Circle Podcast! I am your host Marie Shadows! I review, in full, NJPW Dominion. Dominion and Dontaku are the biggest shows for NJPW. Here is what I went over: All 10 matches. Having United Empire - Will Ospreay and Aussie Open with Aaron Henare - take the loss against FTR and Trent during AEW Rampage stopped any momentum heading to Forbidden Door June 26th. FTR claims to be “the best” tag team…well if they lost then they have something to prove. If someone keeps talking, they are the best and keeps winning, are they truly THE BEST TAG TEAM in the world without fault. The road shouldn't be straight without curve balls. It's tiresome. This conversation happened during the Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan vs Fale and Chase Owens for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships. (21 mins in) Tama Tonga losing his NEVER Openweight Championship to Karl Anderson made no sense. We all know that heels do not elevate the NEVER division. Tama didn't even get started to elevate the NEVER division. I created a what-if story between Tama and Karl had Tama actually retained. This one bothered. (36 mins in) Do we really need Okada at Forbidden Door on June 26th? More wrestlers wanted to face Tanahashi more than Okada. Tanahashi is the main attraction for Forbidden Door. Jay White is not for the highly sensitive, in their feelings fans. Jay White calls things as is, speaks the truth with no lies at all, so just be aware. This update is brought to you by IndyWrestling.us. (STINGER: NJPW) Bullet Club dominated New Japan's Wrestling Dontaku show on Sunday…adding championships and a new member! We're going to run through this chronologically. First, Bullet Club's Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens are the new IWGP Tag Team Champions. They pinned Hirooki Goto to win a 3-way over Goto & YOSHI-HASHI…and the former champs Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb. In the following match, Tama Tonga beat EVIL to win the NEVER Openweight Title. But right after the 3-count, Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows made a surprise appearance to beat up Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Jado. Next, Bullet Club's Taiji Ishimori beat El Desperado to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title. The semi-main event was up next: Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Tomohiro Ishii to win the vacant IWGP United States Championship. Chase Owens confronted Tanahashi after the match, setting him up for a blindside attack by a masked man - who revealed himself to be Juice Robinson, who is now part of Bullet Club. Robinson had said he would be leaving New Japan when his contract expired at the end of April. Juice is a LIAR!. Finally came the main event. Kazuchika Okada beat Tetsuya Naito to retain the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. But just when it appeared the show-ending celebration was over, Jay White showed up - back in Japan for the first time in about a year. White and the rest of the refreshed Bullet Club lineup laid out Okada to close the show. Okada is now set to defend against White at Dominion on June 12th. Also announced for Dominion…Anderson will challenge Tama Tonga for the NEVER Title…and Owens & Fale will defend the tag titles against Cobb & Great-O-Khan. Shingo Takagi will defend the KOPW 2022 trophy against Taichi at Dominion. Taichi pinned Takagi with a Gedo Clutch to win a 6-man tag at Wrestling Dontaku. Other results from that show, Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato beat DOUKI & Yoshinobu Kanemaru to hold onto their junior tag titles. Hiromu Takahashi beat YOH. And Tanga Loa beat Yujiro Takahashi. Tokyo Sports reports Tetsuya Naito will undergo a second surgery to address double vision in his right eye. The first procedure was back in 2019 and Naito missed a few weeks of action. New Japan Sunday also announced the field for the Best of the Super Juniors tournament. It includes a number of foreigners and fresh faces for New Japan fans. They include AEW star and Ring of Honor Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta…Impact X-Division Champion Ace Austin…U.S. indie standout Alex Zayne…GLEAT's El Lindaman…New Japan newcomer Francesco Akira…Titan from CMLL...and a couple of regulars from New Japan Strong: Clark Connors and TJP. The tournament begins on Sunday, May 15th. TJP was on Saturday's New Japan Strong…and he took a loss to Mascara Dorada. Also on the show, Jay Lethal beat Ren Narita…and The DKC beat Kevin Knight. Brody King vs. Minoru Suzuki has been added to the Capital Collision show in Washington, D.C. on May 14th. (STINGER: WWE) Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns & SmackDown Tag Champs The Usos are being promoted for tonight's RAW. This follows a big change to the lineup for WrestleMania Backlash. The tag team championship unification match is no longer on the card. Instead, it'll be Reigns and The Usos vs. Drew McIntyre & the RAW Tag Champs RK-Bro. The change was made during last Friday's SmackDown. McIntyre came to the rescue of RK-Bro after they were attacked by Reigns & The Usos. WWE released TEN individuals associated with its NXT brand and Performance Center, including Dakota Kai, Dexter Lumis, Draco Anthony, Harland, Malcolm Bivens, and Persia Pirotta. WWE's big show in Cardiff, Wales in the United Kingdom in September will be called “Clash At The Castle” (STINGER: AEW) AEW announced the early start time for this Friday's episode of Rampage - 5:30 PM Eastern. This is due to coverage of the NHL's Stanley Cup Playoffs on TNT. On last Friday's Rampage, Darby Allin qualified for the Owen Hart Foundation Men's Tournament. He beat Swerve Strickland. Tonight's Dark: Elevation has DDT Pro's Konosuke Takeshita vs. Ring of Honor star Rhett Titus. Another former ROH star, Cheeseburger, will take on Tony Nese. Plus, Nyla Rose & Emi Sakura vs. Anna Jay & Kris Statlander. AEW stars were all over AAA's Triplemania XXX show in Monterrey Saturday night. The Young Bucks beat AAA Mega Champion Hijo Del Vikingo & Fenix in the main event. Vikingo took the pin. Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti won the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles. Back in Japan… Go Shiozaki is the new GHC Heavyweight Champion. He beat Kaito Kiyomiya to win the vacant title at Pro-Wrestling NOAH's show over the weekend. Shiozaki is now set to defend the GHC Title against Satoshi Kojima at the Cyber Fight Festival on June 12th. Also announced for the Cyber Fight Festival - Rob Van Dam. MIRAI is the winner of Stardom's Cinderella Tournament. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Monday, May 2nd. I'm Matt Carlins. (STINGER: WWE) We have a new match added to WWE's Extreme Rules pay per view: Liv Morgan vs. Carmella. Morgan & Toni Storm beat Carmella & Zelina Vega via countout on last night's SmackDown...after Morgan smashed Mella's face into the middle turnbuckle. Also last night...WWE Champion Big E & Finn Balor beat the SmackDown Tag Champs The Usos in a non-title match...Sami Zayn beat Dominik Mysterio...and Rick Boogs pinned Robert Roode. KING Nakamura will defend the Intercontinental Championship on next Friday's SmackDown...against Apollo Crews. A couple big matches are announced for Monday's Raw. Miro went for a post-match beatdown on Fuego, but Sammy Guevara ran out to make the save. The Lucha Brothers beat The Butcher & The Blade to retain the AEW Tag Team Titles. Private Party and Jack Evans joined in for a post-match beatdown on the Lucha Brothers, but Santana & Ortiz ran out to make the save. And just like that, we have a new match announced for next Friday's Rampage from Arthur Ashe Stadium: The Lucha Brothers & Santana & Ortiz vs. Private Party & The Butcher & The Blade. Also announced for next Friday's Rampage… Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston vs. Lance Archer & Minoru Suzuki in a Lights Out Match. And Anna Jay vs. Penelope Ford. Anna Jay used a rollup to pin The Bunny on Friday's Rampage. After the match, Penelope Ford - armed with a pair of brass knuckles - knocked out both Jay AND Tay Conti. Friday's Rampage was a busy one for the Hardy Family Office. Matt Hardy and Jack Evans attacked a “fan” and shaved part of his head. Orange Cassidy eventually made his way out for the save. CM Punk's first pro wrestling match in over seven years was a win over Darby Allin. He pinned him with the GTS and the two shook hands after the match. The match was restarted and Jericho later forced MJF to tap out to the Walls Of Jericho. And Paul Wight pinned QT Marshall with a choke slam. On the Buy In pre-show, Jurassic Express & the Best Friends beat the Hardy Family Office. After the match, The Butcher returned to AEW TV after a long layoff to beat up on Orange Cassidy. AEW also announced a new date for the Full Gear pay per view. It's now set for Saturday, November 13th. AEW wasn't the only company in the Chicagoland area this past weekend. Plus, Jon Moxley vs. New Japan's Satoshi Kojima...Paul Wight vs. QT Marshall...and the Women's Casino Battle Royale. 20 names are announced for that match. But the lineup did change over the weekend. During a special episode of Dark on Saturday, Julia Hart was attacked backstage by Jade Cargill and Nyla Rose. Hart was ruled unable to compete and pulled from the Battle Royale. Listen and subscribe at www.JustProWrestlingNews.com I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Friday, September 3, 2021. Shannon Spruill - better known to pro wrestling fans as Daffney - has died. Daffney made her debut with WCW in 1999, and won the company's Cruiserweight Championship the following year. She later wrestled for TNA and various independent promotions. Injuries shortened Daffney's in-ring career. Her last match was over a decade ago, though she continued to make appearances for different companies over the years that followed. Her death was announced on Thursday. Daffney - Shannon Spruill - was 46. ... If you are in crisis, or just need someone to talk to...help is available. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-TALK. That's 1-800-273-8255 ... (STINGER: WWE) WWE is promoting a HUGE match for tonight's SmackDown. Roman Reigns defending the Universal Championship against Finn Balor. On Thursday's NXT UK… Teoman beat Nathan Frazer in a first round match in the Heritage Cup #1 Contender Tournament. A timely distraction by Rohan Raja helped Teoman get the deciding pinfall in the fifth round. Also on the show, Emilia McKenzie pinned Amale with a rollup. The advertised match between Blair Davenport and Nina Samuels never happened. Davenport attacked Samuels during her entrance. That drew out Sid Scala...and Davenport laid him out too. Scala was later seen sporting a neck brace. It was announced during the show that Aoife Valkyrie suffered a knee injury during her match last week...and will be out indefinitely. (STINGER: AEW) Tonight's AEW Rampage is the last stop before Sunday's All Out pay per view. Darby Allin faces Daniel Garcia in the main event. CM Punk will be on commentary during that match. Plus, Malakai Black vs. Lee Johnson… Kris Statlander in a 2-on-1 Match against Jamie Hayter & Rebel… And we'll hear from the TNT Champion Miro. Riho has been added to the Women's Casino Battle Royale at All Out. That leaves us with only ONE unannounced entrant for the match. During a media call on Thursday, Tony Khan confirmed that most tapings of AEW Dark will be moving to Universal Studios in Orlando. Khan also said he's planning to do international touring next year...specifically in the United Kingdom...and also looking to do shows in the western half of the United States, including bringing the Double Or Nothing pay per view back to Las Vegas. (STINGER: ROH) The semifinals in Ring Of Honor's women's title tournament are on this weekend's ROH TV. It's Angelina Love vs. Rok-C...and Miranda Alize vs. Trish Adora. The winners will face off for the gold at the Death Before Dishonor pay per view. Also on this weekend's show, Shane Taylor Promotions vs. La Faccion Ingobernable in an 8-Man Tag Team main event. (STINGER: New Japan) Tonight's New Japan Strong has - and I can't stress this enough - Josh Alexander vs. Daniel Garcia in the main event. Plus, TJP vs. Rey Horus...and Hikuleo vs. Matt Morris, who's better known these days as Matthew Rehwoldt. Back in Japan, New Japan is running back-to-back days at the MetLife Dome in Saitama this weekend. Saturday's show has Hiroshi Tanahashi defending the IWGP United States Championship against Kota Ibushi in the main event. Kazuchika Okada goes up against Jeff Cobb. Chase Owens defends the 2021 KOPW Trophy against Toru Yano in an “I Quit” Match. Roppongi 3K explodes...as SHO and YOH clash one-on-one. Plus, IWGP Jr. Champ Robbie Eagles & Tiger Mask vs. Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI… AND a special Stardom tag match: Momo Watanabe & Saya Kamitani vs. Maika & Lady C. Start time is 3:30AM Eastern on Saturday. (STINGER: Impact) Impact Wrestling's X-Division Champion Josh Alexander will defend his title at Victory Road...against Chris Sabin. Sabin challenged Alexander on last night's Impact...right after Alexander had beaten Dave Crist to retain his X-Division Title. Crist had answered an open challenge for a title match. Last night's main event saw Ace Austin beat Tommy Dreamer. A distraction by Madman Fulton allowed Austin to hit The Fold and get the pin...and that keeps Austin's title shot at Victory Road against Impact World Champ Christian Cage a one-on-one match.
