Walking can slow and even reverse functional ageing in the brain, improve our cognition, our creativity and our mental health but yet it is such an underrated activity.Feel Better Live More Bitesize is my new weekly podcast for your mind, body and heart. Each week I’ll be featuring inspirational stories and practical tips from some of my former guests.Today’s clip is from episode 84 of the podcast with neuroscientist Shane O’Mara, a professor of experimental brain research at Trinity College Dublin.Shane believes walking can be our superpower. In this clip he explains how the many benefits of walking go beyond the physical – it’s important for our mood, our happiness and our wellbeing.Shane reveals the results of a study that showed that walking improved memory and attention and reversed functional ageing of the brain, and that if we walk before doing a task, we perform it more creatively. The benefits of walking are retained throughout life and it’s never too late to start. As Shane says, ‘you only get old when you stop walking, you don’t stop walking because you’re old’.Show notes and the full podcast are available at drchatterjee.com/84Follow me on instagram.com/drchatterjee/Follow me on facebook.com/DrChatterjee/Follow me on twitter.com/drchatterjeeukDISCLAIMER: The content in the podcast and on this webpage is not intended to constitute or be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.  Here’s a chance to meet our fantastic buyer’s specialists, Shane Arquines. Shane Arquines, who was born and raised in Honolulu but relocated to Kapolei, has become one of Team Lally’s invaluable buyer’s specialists. Here’s what he had to say about his Team Lally experience thus far: How did you hear about Team Lally? I first heard about Team Lally when I used to do pizza delivery; when I was driving around the area, the Team Lally real estate signs were one of the more frequent signs that I saw. I started researching real estate professionals; Team Lally was definitely one of the first ones I searched since they were top of mind. What motivated you to join Team Lally? It’s funny, because when I first applied, it was one of maybe 20 jobs I applied for. But after I went through the extensive interview process, I could sense that there was something different about how they did business. I could tell that they were unique, and I really wanted to be a part of that. I ended up rejecting a couple of job offers before Team Lally even offered me anything—that’s just how much I wanted to be a part of the team.  “      I hope to educate our buyers and make them masters the home buying process.” What is your role on Team Lally? My role on Team Lally is that of a buyer’s specialist, so my responsibility is to make our buyers happy. I hope to educate our buyers and make them masters the home buying process. I know I’ve done my job when our clients are happy in a new home! What do you enjoy about working on a team? The thing I like most about working on a team is that I don’t have to worry about 5,000 different things everyday. Being on a team like Team Lally allows me to progress my skills as a buyer’s agent everyday and put more time and focus into truly helping my clients. If you’re thinking about entering the market as a homebuyer soon, don’t hesitate to reach out to Shane or one of our other awesome team members by phone or email! As Shane said it best, “It’s my job to make you happy.” We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Millions of workers in the United States are now without jobs as a result of widespread economic disruption and lack of a comprehensive government aid. As Shane describes in his recent article published at Waging Nonviolence: “In almost every city around the United States mutual aid networks have started to form — ranging from projects for resource distribution to simple options like fundraising, compiling lists of resources and contacts, and creating “chat threads” so that people in the same area can stay in contact with one another. The speed with which these groups have arrived, and the depth of care that many of them offer, have started to show what options communities have when the large institutions around them fail, or are unwilling to deal with the disaster.” (https://bit.ly/3a5GN89) Shane Burley is a writer and filmmaker who regularly reports on far-right movements in the US, as well as anti-fascist resistance, workers rights, and class struggle. [Intro: 12:39 | Book Pre-sale: http://bit.ly/ORBITgr] In this episode, I speak with author, journalist, and political researcher Shane Burley. We discuss mutual aid in the time of COVID-19, the "Autumn of the Alt Right," and the underlying structure of conspiracy theories in the age of information. We begin this discussion with Shane describing what mutual aid and solidarity looks like in our time of the coronavirus pandemic, with millions of workers in the United State without jobs as a result of widespread economic disruption and lack of a comprehensive government aid. The speed with which these groups have arrived, and the depth of care that many of them offer, have started to show what options communities have when the large institutions around them fail, or are unwilling to deal with the disaster.” (https://bit.ly/3a5GN89) From there, we move into what he explored in an earlier article he published at Commune Magazine, titled ‘Autumn of the Alt Right.’ I ask him what the state of the Alt Right is currently, in particular what the ultimate failures and successes the far right movement has made in their attempt to shift the political discourse in the U.S. further to the Right. Finally, we end this interview with an examination of the underlying structure of conspiracy theories in the age of information, which is especially relevant in light of the spread of baseless suppositions surrounding the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic, that the pandemic is a “hoax,” and so on. Shane Burley is a writer and filmmaker who regularly reports on far-right movements in the US, as well as anti-fascist resistance, workers rights, and class struggle. He is the author of ‘Fascism Today: What It Is and How to End It’ from AK Press, and his work has appeared in numerous publications, such as Jacobin, Truthout, and Commune Magazine.

Reports of the death of media relations have been greatly exaggerated. According to practitioner and entrepreneur, Shane Allison, media relations accounted for 51% of agency revenues in 2018. As such it remains a core skill, but in many ways the way we practice media relations has not evolved from when we used fax machines to reach journalists. Shane has launched a new platform, Public Address, bringing much needed innovation and technology to improve the practice of media relations and help remove the friction that can exist between PR practitioners and journalists. In this episode, Shane supports the view of David Skapinker in Smoke Signal episode 8 that there are now more journalists and media outlets than ever before. As a profession we’ve gone from interacting with 2500 media outlets in 2013 to nearly 5000 media outlets today. In the same time we’ve seen nearly 1000 journalists added to the population of journalists. As Shane puts it: “You look at that explosion of media outlets you understand why the PR is struggling to meet the needs of journalists. There are so many different titles and outlets that we need to be communicating with, and pitching to, on a daily basis. “As a result we have never been busier as an industry. The number of people employed in PR has doubled in the last 8 years… We are putting more and more resources to get the same impact as we would have done five years ago with a placement in mainstream media… So the net effect for the PR profession has been a declining productivity." For Shane, the PR profession has often confused innovation with diversification. So we've innovated by diversifying away from media relations - we’ve introduced video, social, content creation, community management among other skills. But, in Shane's view, that is now holding us back, we need to come back to our core and ask how we innovate in this core skill of media relations. Shane is excited about what he sees as the imminent golden age of media relations in a time when media relations has never been more valuable for brands  – the process can be improved and evolve but the discipline will remain at the core of what we do. In the news Earlier this month I attended the launch of the 2019 Edelman Trust Barometer. In the news this episode I discuss three of the key findings: Media is becoming more trusted than ever Trust in social media as a source of news and information continues to be persistently low, especially in Australia A trust gap has arisen between men and women – women are less trusting Take a listen and you can view the full results here.

He simply decided that he was tired of being “under the thumb” of heroin and made a pact to never do it again. And he didn't. His music fueled him forward, and his support from his wife keeps him going today. On his ten-year anniversary of the last day he ever used, Shane decided to share words of inspiration and courage with those he knew were still suffering from addiction. If you or someone you know is still battling with addiction of some kind, Shane has a message for you: if he can do it, then you can too.
