Polly Jean Harvey (born 9 October 1969) is an English singer, songwriter and musician. Primarily known as a vocalist and guitarist, she is also proficient with a wide range of instruments. Over the course of her career, Harvey established herself as one of the most individual and influential songwriters of her era, exploring themes of sex, religion, and political issues with unnerving honesty, dark humor, and a twisted theatricality. This episode is a compilation of the four playlists published by Harvey between August 2019 and August 2021. Lineup: Claude Debussy, Martin Jones, Colin Stetson, Amen Dunes, Empire of the Sun, Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, Connan Mockasin, Thom Yorke, Coby Sey, Bendik Giske, Tirzah, Sarah Neufeld, Big Thief, Hekla, Sibylle Baier, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Desert Sessions, Liela Moss, slowthai, Mura Masa, Eartheater, Hole, Radiohead, Nicholas Britell, Hanan Townshend, Here We Go Magic, Mark Lanegan, Bob Dylan, Anne Briggs, Stina Nordenstam, Jed Kurzel, SAULT, Michael Kiwanuka, Martin Phipps, Johnny Flynn, Robert Macfarlane, Low, Sleaford Mods, Superstate, Graham Coxon, Valentina Pappalardo, Shabazz Palaces

One of the most prominent and rewarding director/composer relationships in recent years has been with legendary auteur director Terrence Malick and composer Hanan Townshend. Hanan takes some time to chat about his most recent collaboration with Malick for Knight Of Cups. Hanan tells the story of how he simply answered an ad for a composer for an unnamed director, and it just so happened to be for Terrence Malick. We discuss what it's been like working with one of the most secretive and reclusive directors of our time, and how Hanan approached scoring Knight Of Cups. Some of the challenges scoring a Malick film of course are that Hanan isn't scoring to picture, and has to navigate between Malick's use of classical pieces. Hanan provides some amazing insight here and talks about the discussions he and Malick had, and what Hanan wanted the music to accomplish. Hanan also sheds some light on Malick's upcoming projects. It was a true pleasure to welcome back such a fantastic composer to Film.Music.Media. Interview Conducted By:Kaya Savas Special Thanks:Hanan TownshendJC ChamboredonMilan Records

The Director's Club concludes our look at the films of Terrence Malick, from an appropriately epic examination of "The Tree of Life" through the more improvisational and abstract efforts of his later movies.  Thanks to the help of Peter Richards from the Chicago Film Discussion Group, we aim to get a fuller look at what's amazing, infuriating, and fascinatingly unique about this later part of his movie career! 0:00 "The Tree Of Life" (The "most" Malick?, Chastain's emotional foundation, "Funeral Canticle" byJohn Tavener and Mother Thekla, the Global Fast Forward, "Lacrimosa 2" by Zbigniew Preisner,  Jurrasic Mercy, Navigating Grace and Nature, Pitt's best performance, "Snippets of Memory",  "Siciliana Da Antiche Danze Ed Arie Suite III" by Ottorino Respighi, "MVlast Moldau (Vltava)" byBed.ich Smetana, some staggering images, holding onto the light, "The Grande Messe des morts, Op. 5"  by Hector Berlioz) 42:49 "To The Wonder" (the C.S.I.
