Good morning! On today’s show, Matt Swaim and Anna Mitchell welcome Rita Heikenfeld to share more make ahead recipes for Thanksgiving. Other guests include Courtney Brown from Ruah Woods, Gary Michuta from Hands On Apologetics, and Fr. Robert Nixon, O.S.B., with reflections on silence from Thomas a Kempis. Plus news, weather, sports, and more… ***** A Prayer for Grace and Guidance O Lord God almighty, who has brought to us to the beginning of this day, defend us in the same by Your power; that we may not this day fall into any sin, but that all our thoughts, words, and works may be directed to the fulfillment of Your will. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen. ***** THANKSGIVING RECIPE IDEAS FROM RITA Sweet Potato Coins4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-1/2” rounds1/4 cup olive oil or more if needed1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves2 generous teaspoons minced garlic1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes1 teaspoon saltExtra sprigs of thyme Preheat oven to 400. Toss potatoes with oil, thyme, garlic, pepper and salt. Place standing each coin up on sprayed cookie sheet. Add extra thyme sprigs around potatoes. Roast 40-45 minutes. Serves 4. ***** Sweet Potato Soufflé (from listener Karen Lance) Casserole:3-4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled, cooked, and mashed1 cup sugar3/4 cup melted butter2 beaten eggs1 tsp cinnamon1 tsp vanilla1/4 tsp allspice1/3 cup milk Topping1/4 cup flour1/3 cup melted butter1 cup light brown sugar1 cup chopped pecans Mix together casserole ingredients and pour into oblong baking dish.Bake 15 minutes at 350, then reduce temperature to 300 and bake for 10 more minutes.Mix together ingredients for topping, add to the top of sweet potato mixture, and bake for another 15 minutes at 350. ***** Rita’s Clone of Cheesecake Factory’s Cheesecake This cake is so rich that I use a 9” pan. If you use an 8” pan, plan on baking a bit longer. An 8” pan makes thicker slices, and they look almost as high as Cheesecake Factory’s. The taste is so similar you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference!Crust:1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs1 tablespoon or so of sugar1/2 to 1 teaspoon cinnamon5 tablespoons melted butterMix until crumbly, not pasty. Pat into 9” springform pan going up the sides a bit. Set aside while making filling: Filling:1 pound cream cheese, room temperature1 cup sour cream1-1/4 cups sugar1 teaspoon vanilla3 tablespoons brown sugar15 oz canned pumpkin2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice1/2 teaspoon cinnamon4 eggs, lightly beatenPreheat oven to 350. Beat cream cheese, sour cream, sugar and vanilla until smooth. Add pumpkin and spices and blend. Add eggs and blend until mixed. Pour into pan. Bake 40-45 minutes until center is almost set but still wobbly. Turn oven off but leave cheesecake in with oven door shut for 30 minutes more. This will finish the baking process and prevent a lot of “cracking” on top. Refrigerate several hours or up to 2 days to complete firming up of cheesecake. Garnish with whipped cream and nuts if you like. Serves 10-12. ***** Annie’s Family Bread Stuffing 3 Tablespoons chopped onion1/4 Cup butter4 Cups dry bread cubes (about 7 slices cut or torn)1/4 teaspoon salt1/4 teaspoon pepper1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning1/2 teaspoon ground sage2-4 tablespoons water or chicken broth Cook onion in butter, combine with bread and seasoning. Toss with enough liquid to moisten Makes 3 cups stuffing or enough stuffing for a 4-5 pound chicken. For a 10 pound turkey, double the recipe. ***** Matt’s Crispy Oven Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Shallots and Bacon 1 pound Brussels sprouts1/4 pound bacon, cut into 1/2 inch wide strips3 shallotsOlive OilBlack Pepper to taste Preheat oven to 400. Slice shallots, and cut of stems of Brussels sprouts and halve them. Add sprouts, shallots, and bacon to a large mixing bowl, and toss with olive oil and black pepper. Bake on a sheet pan or in a pyrex dish for 10 minutes, toss, and bake for 5-10 more, until desired crispiness is reached. ***** Full list of guestsSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this Dark Moon download, Britten reflects on the lunar cycle that began at the New Moon in Libra and is now completing just before the New Moon in Scorpio on November 20th. She explores the archetype of the ferryman, a figure who guides travelers across waters to unknown shores, and how this image has appeared repeatedly in her tarot readings as the Six of Swords, revealing her role as a guide and container-holder. Topics She Covers: The Six of Swords and Six of Cups: being a ferryman who guides people to unknown shores and a fountain of resources for transformation Trust as the currency (aka: the coin that allows passage on the boat) and why transformational containers require serious trust for alchemy to happen Teaching the ferryman song from her daughters' Swedish immersion camp and how the zodiac transmissions are the essential songs she sings in Living Emergence The Nine Boredoms of the Rightful Baddie as nine forms of permission inspired by the Vasilisa fairy tale and the journey to meet Baba Yaga How grief is essential to giving yourself permission, and why growing up means becoming bored with consensus reality's illusions Creating delusional spaces for delusional dreams, where the circle of animals (the zodiac) helps us see parts of ourselves that want our attention Britten emphasizes that her work is about supporting you in trusting your capacity to be creators for this world. To show up more loudly, clearly, and magnificently in your unique creativity. Living Emergence is designed as a living, breathing world held by the wheel of the year, where you can stay for as long as it's nourishing you, moving through all twelve signs in a cyclical process of revelation and transformation. +++ Join The 9 Boredoms of the Rightful Baddie mini-course - it''s FREE! It's fun. It's provocative and catalyzing. Each of us was born radiant, wild, and wise… and yet we get lulled into nine kinds of stuck. Nine boredoms that whisper: stay small, stay safe, stay polite. It's a morass we trade for safety. You receive 10 short, punchy videos with 10 rich opportunities for deeper reflection. Nine awakenings (plus an intro) to help you recognize boredom for what it really is: a temptation to forget your power. This offer moves into the paid side of Living Emergence on November 21. Get it while you can! Living Emergence is my new living, year-round ecosystem. Part mystery school, part creative laboratory, part game, part devotional gym for magic and intuition. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK said Erik Christensen had some of the best hands in hockey that he's ever seen – relating to the Penguins' struggles in shootouts. Tyler said the Penguins are starting to win him over, but the last 2 games have been very tough ones to lose. The guys discussed the difficulty between winning Stanley Cups back-to-back versus winning Cups a few years apart. Is Erik Karlsson a ‘born loser,' like Poni says? Would you take him over Kris Letang?
The Steelers activated Will Howard today. Is there any shot he becomes a good QB in the NFL? Or should we just look at the draft stock and give him no chance? It's easy to point to the Steelers as the blame here more than anything, but the guys discussed what he could look like if given an opportunity, referencing his numbers and what he had to work with at Ohio State. In this episode Dr. Perry has a chat with Chris DaPrato DPT, SCS, CSCS, PES, MFDc the lead instructor and innovator of Integrative Movement Health We discuss the science and applications of cupping in helping pain. There are a lot of myths out there about cupping and Dr. DaPrato sets the record straight. If you have ever wondered if cupping is a theraputic option for you, this is the episode you do not want to miss. Some of the highlights. Movement matters — it's not just passive suction Dr. DaPrato emphasises that MFD is distinct from traditional passive cupping because it combines negative-pressure suction with active movement or loading. Fascial shear, glide and viscoelasticity are key targets Chris explains improving the sliding/ gliding surfaces of fascia, increasing viscoelastic properties and thereby enhancing mobility and tissue responsiveness Cups can be used as neurosensory tools not just mechanical tools One of his points: the cups provide sensory input — mechanoreceptor stimulation, nervous system modulation, proprioceptive feedback — which can influence movement patterns and motor control. Dr. DaPrato currently treats professional and NCAA athletes at UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley, while teaching in the Orthopedic Residency for their School of Medicine. He is a strong proponent and educator for manual therapy in sports and has presented evidence informed practices at conferences both nationally and internationally. After receiving his BS in Human Physiology, his Masters in Physical Therapy from Long Beach, and his Doctorate from Temple University, he went on to become Board Certified in Sports through the APTA. This week on The Tarot Diagnosis, in honor of my upcoming book Dark Shadow, Golden Shadow, which releases on December 8, 2025, I'm reading a portion of chapter 2 (Roots of the Shadow) right here on the podcast. In Roots of the Shadow, I dive into the foundations of shadow work through a deeply therapeutic and psychologically grounded lens. I explore how Carl Jung's original concept of the shadow intersects with Internal Family Systems (IFS), Freud's ideas of the id, ego, and superego, and even Brené Brown's research on shame. Throughout this chapter, I explore academic theory, personal reflection, and practical exercises, because shadow work is just as much about theory as it is about application. You'll also get to experience one of the tarot spreads from the book, the Psychoanalytic Shadow Spread, designed to help you explore your inner world using tarot as a reflective tool. I walk you through each position in the spread and provide an example interpretation using cards like The High Priestess, Ace of Cups, Nine of Swords, and more.We also take a deep dive into the Pages of the tarot and how each one can represent developmental moments where your shadow may have started to form. Whether it's being told you're “too emotional,” “too much,” or “not enough,” these early messages get internalized and shadow work gives us the chance to revisit and reclaim those parts of ourselves.

Hey Guys, In this mini episode, I walk you through letting go of one of the most challenging things to let go of - mugs! They are extra hard to say goodbye to because we receive them as gifts, we get them as sets, and we get attached. But the problem is we don't have unlimited space for these things. And they start to interrupt the flow of the space, so it is time to say goodbye. Don't worry, you don't have to get rid of all of them. Just some. Here are the dates for the longform episodes, but each day in between you can listen to short, reminder episodes. November 4 - Counters and surfaces November 7 - Dishes and drinkware November 11 - Cookware and bakeware November 14 - Appliances & Utensils November 18 - Pantry November 21 - Fridge and freezer November 25 - Junk drawers & Tupperware November 28 - Habits and flow Follow the show so you get tomorrow's three-minute kitchen win. Send us a textEver feel like Halloween says more about us than the costumes do? We kick off with a quick platform cleanup and jump straight into a lively Halloween special full of laughter, strong opinions, and the kinds of stories that stick. From a spoiler-light take on Shelby Oaks to a rapid-fire tour of modern horror—The Nun, La Llorona, The Boogeyman, Evil Dead Rise, and even animated gateway chills like Monster House—we compare what scares us on screen to what unsettles us in real life. The candy segment turns into its own saga. Pillowcases reign as the ultimate trick-or-treat bag. Reese's Cups take the crown, while Starburst, Skittles, Kit Kat, and Twix battle for runner-up. Candy corn catches strays, black licorice splits the room, and boutique sweets like Ferrero Rocher and Lindor get side-eye for being pricey but undeniably good. We trade memories of the “parent tax,” freezer stashes, and the trades that defined our childhood Halloween economy.Things get real on the curb. One of us becomes the “get off my yard” neighbor after kids shortcut across a corner-lot rockscape, which sparks a talk about respect, boundaries, and how we teach community norms. We also rethink trick-or-treat etiquette: full costumes versus teens with empty bags, and why a little grace can keep kids safe and included. Between fast-food detours—Wendy's spicy nuggets, KFC honey barbecue wings, and a PSA against a regrettable steak nugget—we find the throughline: Halloween blends nostalgia, humor, and the rules we live by when no one's watching.Hit play for an honest, funny, and surprisingly thoughtful ride through horror picks, candy rankings, and neighborhood ethics. If you smile, nod, or yell at your phone at least once, share the episode with a friend, subscribe, and drop your top three candies in a review. We're ready to argue with you in the best way. Thanks for listening to the Nobody's Talking Podcast.
