In coffee we can often question the impact of our efforts. Over time though, small consistent steps in the right direction can not only carry you over many miles, it can transform you and those for whom you are working. What may seem like plodding work now, is the foundation for what will be built in the future. Today we are talking with someone whose work has taken several turns over the years. All of which were in the direction of uplifting farmers with whatever means were at hand. Today the massive impact of those consistent actions has led to impact beyond measure. We are talking with Ben Carlson of Long Miles Coffee. Ben Carlson is a coffee industry leader and social entrepreneur with 23 years of global experience, including 16 years on the ground in East Africa. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Ben serves as the CEO, Chief Culture Creator, and Sales Director of Long Miles Coffee—an impact-driven organization dedicated to producing world-class specialty coffee while uplifting smallholder farming communities out of generational poverty. Ben's journey in East Africa began in 2010 following a quality survey of Burundi's coffee sector. Driven by a vision to challenge exploitative supply chains, he transitioned from coffee trading to hands-on production, founding Long Miles Coffee in 2013 alongside his wife, Kristy. What started with a single washing station serving 180 families in Bukeye, Burundi, has scaled into a multi-country operation employing over 130 team members and supporting more than 9,500 farming families across Burundi and Uganda. Under Ben's leadership, Long Miles has consistently set benchmarks for quality and sustainability, earning numerous Cup of Excellence awards and achieving Burundi's highest coffee sales per pound. His current work focuses on pioneering climate-resilient agriculture, including building Africa's first carbon-neutral, minimal-water coffee processing facility and developing a regenerative model farm on Mount Elgon in Western Kenya. Recognized as Imbibe Magazine's "Coffee Person of the Year," Ben is a frequent international speaker, event host, and competition judge on impact-driven business models and sustainable agriculture. He also serves as the regional distributor for Ecotact protective packaging in Uganda and Kenya. Ben lives in Kenya with his family, continuing his mission to reshape the future of African specialty coffee. We discuss: The start of Long Miles Coffee and its initial vision Impact of coffee on local communities in Burundi Challenges and innovations in coffee farming and processing Scaling the impact: From 100 families to thousands The social programs: Coffee Kids Camp and community development Market response and the future of Long Miles Coffee Advice for those who want to make a difference KEYS TO THE SHOP CONSULTING HELPS YOU MAKE YOU CAFE BETTER! #158 The Eight of Cups The slingers discuss the Eight of Cups. Hilary says it's walking away from an emotionally charged situation, and you gotta let go. Melissa shows The Unveiled Tarot and it suggests freedom and getting out of a busy situation. Take the leap and get out. Jaymi leans on both ideas, where it's about finding what's missing and the time to let go. Did you know you swallow about six cups of your own saliva every single day, and that saliva could be quietly feeding disease throughout your entire body? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Elmira Shojai and Lora Hooper, two women working at the cutting edge of something almost nobody in traditional dentistry ever talks about: your oral microbiome. I did a consult with them on my own mouth, and even though I feel amazing and have done so much work to clean up my health, my results shocked me. We go deep on why the mouth is the second largest microbiome in your body, why traditional dentistry cleans and fills without ever asking why the problem keeps coming back, and why killing every bit of bacteria with harsh mouthwash might actually be making things worse instead of better. If you've done everything right and still feel like your body is working against you, this conversation might hold the missing piece.
In order to provide excellence in the cafe, we need to focus on people. Building, caring for, and managing a team is the cornerstone of any great cafe. The potential of your coffee and hospitality depends on this! Today we are going to be talking with someone who has lead and managed at the highest levels of coffee. With her passion for logistics, people-first leadership, and team development, she has delivered consistent quality for staff and guests alike. I am thrilled to welcome to the show, Ewelina Kania! Ewelina has spent over a decade in hospitality, starting out as a barista before joining Prufrock Coffee in London. As General Manager during an eight-year stretch, she ran the entire operation, tested new concepts, and navigated the less glamorous realities of the industry - including leadership transitions, operational hurdles, and a global pandemic. She later worked as Chief Operating Officer at Barista Hustle Tools, diving deep into product logistics and global supply chains. Today, Ewelina is Head of Operations and Logistics at Natoora Copenhagen, connecting small-scale growers with local chefs. For her, moving from specialty coffee to farm-grown produce is a seamless transition: both industries rely on passionate people who care deeply about origin and quality. Across every role, she stays focused on one core principle: a happy, supported team leads to a stronger business and a better guest experience. We discuss: How Ewelina Started in Coffee by Accident Mastering Coffee Logistics and Workflow Attraction to Leadership and Team Development Lessons in Effective Leadership and Communication Time Management and Supporting Teams Effective Delegation and Empowerment Managing Conflict in Teams Similarities in Food and Coffee Supply Chains Lessons from Food Industry for Coffee Role of Coffee Shops in Supply Chain and Community Links: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ew__ka__/ Natoora: https://www.instagram.com/natoora/ KEYS TO THE SHOP CONSULTING HELPS YOU MAKE YOU CAFE BETTER! Packinghouse's Wednesday night worship service from August 12, 2026 Exodus 6:6–7 — The Four Cups This study looks at the four cups of Passover and the four promises God gave Israel: “I will bring you out, I will deliver you, I will redeem you, and I will take you as My people.” Each promise points beyond Israel's deliverance from Egypt to the greater redemption fulfilled in Jesus, our Passover Lamb. The teaching connects the cup of redemption to communion and Christ's blood of the New Covenant, while looking ahead to the final celebration of God's redeemed people with Christ. It closes with Jesus in Gethsemane, willingly taking the cup of judgment we deserved so that we could receive the blessing of forgiveness, redemption, and belonging to God. - Bob Probert - Sunday, August 16, 2026
Every person will face a bitter cup in life. The question isn't whether trials will come, but whether believers will remain faithful when they do. In episode 11 of "Jesus - Our Hero Husband", Duane Sheriff explains that the "bitter cup" is a biblical metaphor for Christian suffering. In our covenant relationship with Christ, we are His bride, and He is our faithful Husband. Under the Old Covenant, a wife suspected of unfaithfulness had to drink a bitter cup mixed with holy water and temple dust. If she was innocent, the bitterness would pass, and she would bear fruit with her husband. This ancient ritual becomes a powerful picture of our faith being tested through trials and afflictions. When we face persecution, hardship, or tribulation, we are drinking our own bitter cups. Will we remain faithful to our heavenly Husband, or will we turn to the world in spiritual adultery? Jesus referred to His suffering at the cross as a cup, praying in Gethsemane that, if possible, it might pass from Him. He drank that ultimate bitter cup for us as our substitute. Now we drink cups of suffering by following His example—not as punishment, but as tests that refine our faith and deepen our loyalty to Him.

It's really the only way to cope with the trade deadline. Lots to cover in this super-sized episode, only partly fueled by very delicious (organic!) tequila. The big news was supposed to be Tarik Skubal, for which Patti doesn't fault the LAD, she faults everyone else. The gut punch was once and forever Adley to BOS, which sets up all sorts of interesting co-host dynamics for AL East games to come. But the rest of baseball continues – Nasim can't stop stealing bases and Kaz stole his first. Ivan has more bruises than you'd expect and Daylen needs a lecture on what “old-school' really means. Salvy is just the best. You can now use “ultimate grand slam” with confidence, and explain WRC+ to friends and family. Patti is ready to defend scooters as a component of multimodal transportation and not a “sport” to the Giants if necessary. Pottymouth welcomes the start of the inaugural WPBL season. Please read this piece on Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve – problematic but an excellent conversation starter. And one of your hosts finds the idea of push-up sushi in a ballpark pretty compelling. We say, “Chahge ya cah in Bah Hahbah,” “You can't just randomly stop paying me because I was out on a scooter at 2am,” and “Transphobic with a Barbie smile.” Fight the man, go see some live baseball, send your game balls to Meredith, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Some guests build buildings. This one built an appetite for a whole city.Lee Brian Schrager sat down with us at Buró over Pimm's Cups and took us all the way back, to Massapequa, Long Island, where he was bagging Chinese takeout on weekend nights by the age of ten. His father had left the garment business, retired young, moved to Florida, and opened restaurants with his brother that, in Lee's own words, did everything wrong and lost a lot of money. Lee has spent a career doing the opposite. We got the whole arc: the Culinary Institute of America, opening Torpedo as one of the first bars in South Beach in the late 80s, and seventeen years at InterContinental Hotels, room service manager to VP. Then Southern Glazer's handed him a sleepy one-day FIU wine tasting in 2000, and he decided it could be something enormous. By 2002 it was the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, today a five-day, sixty-thousand-person event that has raised close to forty million dollars for FIU's Chaplin School. The part he's proudest of isn't the star power, it's the 1,200 students who work it every year. Thanks as always to Vinya for the cocktails and to Buró for podcast studio and coworking space.Connect with usWant to dive deeper into Miami's commercial real estate scene?

In this month's collective tarot reading on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I explore one of my favorite concepts from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): the idea that two seemingly opposite truths can exist at the same time.Inspired by the emotional chaos of Mercury retrograde (but designed to be relevant no matter what's happening in your life) I use my Tension of Opposites tarot spread (below) to explore how we can stop searching for certainty and instead widen our capacity to hold ambiguity, complexity, and contradictions.Throughout this collective, DBT-inspired reading, I weave together tarot, psychology, parts work, and dialectics as I explore how learning to tolerate emotional tensions can become one of our greatest sources of growth and strength - all through the High Priestess, Empress, Ace of Cups, and Three of Cups.Ultimately, this episode is an invitation to stop searching for a single "right" answer. Tarot doesn't always ask us to choose between opposing experiences, it often asks what it can look like to hold opposition with curiosity, compassion, and flexibility. I hope you enjoy this unscripted, nerdy, and compassionate musing of tensions of opposites.Want more of this type of tarot experience?

Episode DescriptionAugust continues the themes of presence, attention, work, and dedication brought into focus last month; this time, however, we're feeling less self-conscious, directly immersing ourselves in the busy complexity of the Ten of Pentacles. In doing so, we're accessing new layers of peace and healing, including some surprising insights and epiphanies, as we practice embodying The Star. We might be tempted, though, to tip a little too far into reverie, fantasy, and wishful thinking as the Seven of Cups tempts us to distract ourselves from the realness in front of us, whether as an escape or act of self-protection. The Three of Wands is our opportunity card, a direct next step from our opportunity last month, the Two of Wands. So we're gifted with some linear growth! How exciting. Note where you're secretly committing to budding projects, plans, and self-directed visions for the future. We can enjoy this time in-between vision and structure by exploring, experimenting, and remaining open to inspiration. This is a public episode. “You can have the greatest destination stewardship plan that the world's ever seen,” says today's guest, “but if you don't have the relationships to leverage it, it's not gonna go very far.” CEO Brad Parsell of Kootenay Rockies Tourism shares his approach to leading a regional tourism organization, lessons he's learned as a founding member of the Destination Think Collective, and why the idea of having “1,000 cups of tea” has become a shorthand for meaningful community engagement to support stewardship. Please join us as we share some upcoming astrological and energetic influences for the month of August. The overriding theme for this coming month seems to be to protect your energy without hiding your light. There are some amazing transits, new moon energy, Leo powerhouse opportunities to shine, and to top it off we go into eclipse season. There is a lot of energy and shift happening but throughout it all is the nudge to: Protect your peace. Speak your truth kindly. Let your sensitivity become wisdom instead of exhaustion. Release identities built around carrying everyone else’s pain. Allow yourself to be seen without abandoning healthy boundaries. The crystal of the month: Calligraphy Stone—also called Miriam Stone, Elephant Skin Jasper, and Arabic Stone, is a great stone to hold when you need to feel energetically recharged. It's most popular nickname is the Writer's Stone because it's known to help with writer's block, creative inspiration, and automatic writing. It helps you access your akashic records primarily to help you recognize and release karmic patterns that are slowing your progress. It helps you transform fears into hope, anxieties into serenity and blocks into progress. The Tarot cards that came up: 8 of Cups, Star Reversed, 7 of Cups. In this Episode, we explore the energetic and spiritual dynamics that arise when you stop taking responsibility for other people's journeys. Many of us spend years carrying the weight of others' choices, health, and experiences. But as we step into our own empowerment, a natural shift happens, returning responsibility to where it belongs. This process, however, can bring backlash unless handled with care.We dive into how to release attachments, return responsibility, and hold space in a way that empowers others without draining yourself. What You'll Learn in This Video:- Why people resist when you stop carrying their responsibilities.- How to energetically return responsibility without backlash.- The importance of sending vibrational information only where it can be received.- How to clear attachments, projections, and empathic bundles from your field.- Ways to witness others in their full capacity and model a strong, coherent energy field. This is a segment from Aleya's coaching sessions - To join her live online coaching sessions, click on the link below: https://www.aleyadao.com/catalog/products/Live-Coaching-Sessions/721/Get a FREE month of the Cups of Consciousness meditations at:https://www.7cupsofconsciousness.com/ Follow along on social media for more insights and updates!
The Queen of Cups has never really been about emotion. That description of her is incomplete. In this episode, we explore one of the most misunderstood archetypes in tarot through a completely different lens: the Queen of Cups as the Keeper of the Living Waters.Rather than seeing water as a symbol of emotion alone, we'll explore water as the medium through which life moves — through our bodies, our relationships, our creativity, our intuition, and our spiritual practice. We dive into the symbolism of living water, the shadow of stagnation, the feminine psyche, and why restoring movement may be one of the deepest forms of healing. We'll also explore:• The Queen of Cups as the Heart of the Empress• Living water vs. stagnant water• Why jealousy, grief, longing, and codependency may be invitations rather than failures• The relationship between water, the nervous system, and the body• Spiral Movement and the symbolism of living systems• The question that has transformed my own practice: "What is trying to emerge through me?"If you're drawn to tarot, folk magic, ritual, witchcraft, symbolism, archetypes, shadow work, embodied spirituality, nervous system healing, or creating a more devotional relationship with everyday life, I hope this conversation gives you a new way of seeing both the Queen of Cups and yourself.✨ Continue the journey inside the Abundance by Craft Membership:https://www.youtube.com/c/AmandaFlaker/joinIn this Queen of Cups Season (in the Empath Entrepreneur tier of the membership), we're practicing The Living Waters Ritual: An Eight-Day Devotional guided experience where we'll tend one evolving water ritual together while exploring Spiral Movement, devotion, and the Primal Anomalies that form the foundation of Abundance by Craft. The craft isn't about escaping ordinary life. It's about entering into a deeper relationship with ordinary life until it becomes sacred.—If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear your reflections in the comments.

After five amazing years in the fray together and 188 episodes, Eric Bland is stepping back from his role as Cup of Justice co-host — but don't call it goodbye. In this heartfelt and candid farewell, Eric explains his decision to refocus on his law practice, his public speaking career, and — most critically — his role as a legal advocate for Mandy as she navigates ongoing harassment and an outrageous sanction that denied her due process at every turn. Together, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland unpack the broken system that's allowed a convicted felon to weaponize the ODC against lawyers, and they celebrate the incredible journey that took them from late-night phone calls about the Murdaugh's financial crimes to back stage and on the mic with Sheryl Crow, and too many good times to count. In this episode of The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I ask: What actually deserves our emotional investment? This question, inspired by pulling the Ace of Cups and King of Cups, became the starting point for this episode and a much deeper exploration of why we emotionally invest in certain people, relationships, friendships, jobs, and family dynamics even when those investments leave us feeling depleted.Drawing from psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, and Parts Work, I explore why we unconsciously recreate familiar emotional patterns - often hoping that this time we'll finally receive the love, validation, consistency, or emotional safety we didn't receive before. Unfortunately, those old wounds can keep us emotionally invested in relationships that repeatedly fail to meet our needs. In this episode, I take you on an emotionally invested journey into:Why we unconsciously invest in emotionally unavailable peopleThe connection between attachment, emotional investment, and relationship patternsHow the King of Cups reflects emotional maturity, identity, and healthy boundariesWhy leaving painful relationships often feels like losing part of ourselvesThe psychology behind the sunken cost fallacy and why it keeps us stuckHow intermittent reinforcement strengthens unhealthy emotional attachmentsWhy seeing an ex-partner become emotionally available can feel so devastatingThe difference between loving someone and organizing your identity around them I also pull a three-card therapeutic tarot spread (below) to explore the parts of ourselves that remain emotionally invested even after a relationship has stopped nourishing us. Using the Six of Pentacles, Page of Cups, and Two of Wands, I examine the inner child, people-pleasing, self-worth, differentiation, and reclaiming our identity.Instead of wondering whether someone else will finally change, I invite you to explore what becomes possible when you stop organizing your life around earning their love and begin investing in the version of yourself that has always been worthy of receiving love from anyone.Want more of this type of tarot experience?
Episode 635: Nine straight wins. 14 out of 16 heading into the All-Star Break. Your Boston Red Sox are certifiably on fire. The pre-All-Star Break trend continues for this year's Red Sox, and against all odds, the team finds itself just a half-game back of a playoff spot. Jared and Steve link up in Philadelphia while Coley and Tyler hold down the fort in New England, and hijinks ensue immediately. After Jared gets a burp out of the way, the guys gush over the three-game sweep of the New York Mets. They praise Brayan Bello's impressive relief appearance after he seemed to have been written off, along with Jared's new favorite player on the Boston Red Sox. The winning streak has given the team a lifeline and completely shifted the vibe in the locker room. Reports indicate that Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman are no longer “goners.” Coley shares his thoughts on what POBO Craig Breslow should do with the trade deadline fast approaching. The guys also discuss what Breslow may need to do if the Red Sox's injured All-Stars return this season. A road game for Section 10 with vibes skyrocketing off the charts is the perfect recipe for a banger episode. This week, we're covering all the bases—and the pitches, and the gridiron. We kick things off with a deep dive into the NFC East, breaking down what to expect from the Eagles, how Jalen Hurts is looking, the latest on Jim Harbaugh, and the current state of the Dallas Cowboys. Then, we trade our cleats for pitch-side seats to talk World Cup fever and the unwritten rules of global fan etiquette. Are you doing it right, or are you the problem? Finally, we take a trip to the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field to tackle the most hard-hitting topics in baseball: the infamous pee troughs and the real reason they strictly ban the wave in the outfield bleachers. Ever since the Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship in June, MAGA personalities have really gone off the rails. Many angrily started saying it's time for the U.S. to find new ways to bar women from coming to this country and having babies. Some are talking about pregnancy tests upon arrival. Others are discussing the possibility of unleashing federal law enforcement on women suspected of pregnancy—and unnervingly, this includes the acting Attorney General. And as a Media Matters roundup shows, some are talking about truly crackpot ideas like forced sterilization. Talking Points Memo writer Sarah Posner sums it up well: “Will every woman now have to pee in cups at airports?” We talked to Posner, a scholar of Christian Nationalism and the religious right. We discuss how all this reflects a genuine and ambitious, if vile, vision for the country, why JD Vance may take up this cause in some form when his presidential run begins next year, and what it all says about MAGA's deeper misogyny and darkening extreme nationalism. You learn at least five new things every episode, and this one stacks them fast. Roll your Apple Watch crown instead of tapping it to keep Sleep mode from searing your eyes, then hit Command-Shift-F in the Finder to jump straight to Recents when a saved file vanishes into the void. When a listener asks how to archive iMessages, you’ll meet iMazing, Shottr’s scrolling screenshots, privacy.apple.com, and a public-key-encryption rabbit hole that explains why even Apple can’t hand your texts back. You’ll also learn to Control-click the Printers list to reset the entire CUPS printing system, and to check every app’s Rosetta versus Apple Silicon status before sluggish performance quietly fools you, because Rosetta survives macOS 27 but finally bows out in fall 2027, so audit those Intel holdouts now. Then the questions roll in. You’ll troubleshoot a PDF that downloads on one Mac but stalls on another (think DNS blocks, CDN handoffs, stale session cookies, and a fast browser swap), wrestle Apple TV lip-sync into line by killing soundbar processing and matching frame rates, and chase a self-dimming iPad back to its ambient-light sensor and screen protector. Cool Stuff Found delivers a Beelink dock that sidesteps Apple’s storage surcharges and Pixette for reviving an ancient iPad as a photo frame. And when refurb Mac minis sell out in two hours and Apple nudges prices up overnight?
