pWotD Episode 2934: Andor (TV series) Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 214,198 views on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 our article of the day is Andor (TV series).Andor, also known as Star Wars: Andor and Andor: A Star Wars Story for its second season, is an American science fiction political spy thriller television series created by Tony Gilroy for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise and a prequel to the film Rogue One (2016), which itself is a prequel to the original Star Wars film (1977). The series follows thief-turned-rebel spy Cassian Andor during the five years that lead to the events of the two films, exploring how he becomes radicalized against the Galactic Empire and how the wider Rebel Alliance is formed.Diego Luna reprises his role as Cassian Andor from Rogue One and serves as an executive producer. The series also stars Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, Fiona Shaw, Genevieve O'Reilly, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Elizabeth Dulau, Ben Mendelsohn, Benjamin Bratt, and Alan Tudyk. Lucasfilm announced a series focused on Andor in November 2018, with Luna attached and Stephen Schiff hired as showrunner. Schiff was replaced by Rogue One co-writer Gilroy as creator and showrunner in April 2020. Filming took place at Pinewood Studios in London and on location around the United Kingdom, with Neal Scanlan returning from Rogue One to provide practical effects. The first season, which tells a year of Andor's story when he first becomes a revolutionary, was filmed from November 2020 to September 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second season covers the next four years leading up to Rogue One, and was filmed from November 2022 to February 2024 with breaks and delays due to the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes. Nicholas Britell composed the series' original score for the first season, while Brandon Roberts composed for the second season. Andor premiered on September 21, 2022, with the first three episodes of the first season. The other nine episodes of the season were released weekly through November 23. The second and final season premiered on April 22, 2025, with three episodes releasing weekly until May 13. The series has received widespread critical acclaim for its writing, performances, cinematography, production values, themes, and its darker, more mature and grounded tone compared to other Star Wars properties. The first season was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:52 UTC on Thursday, 15 May 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Andor (TV series) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm long-form Danielle.

Closing out what began in Season One and adding a whole new layer of appreciation for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" while providing the best characters and story the franchise has ever seen, the new season has already garnered significant critical acclaim. On this week's show, Slate's Dan Kois (author of Vintage Contemporaries, How to Be a Family, The World Only Spins Forward, and Facing Future) sits in for Julia Turner. The panel first begins with a reboot: In 1999, when Jon Stewart took over, rather indifferently, the helm of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, he changed the media landscape with his comedic chops, serious outrage, and penchant for pointing out politicians' hypocrisies. He's since left and returned back to the show (which he hosts once a week), but how effective are he and his trademark bag of tricks in 2024? We discuss. Then, the three dive into Problemista, writer-director-star Julio Torres' first feature film that can only be described as “a lot.” Torres (Los Espookys, My Favorite Shapes, Saturday Night Live) plays Alejandro, a sweet but naive aspiring Salvadoran toymaker who must navigate the Kafka-esque purgatory known as the U.S. immigration system. He meets Elizabeth, played by Tilda Swinton, a nightmare boss with fuschia-colored hair and a looming presence that often overwhelms the film… but perhaps that's exactly what it needs? Finally, the trio is joined by The Sporkful host Dan Pashman to discuss his cookbook, Anything's Pastable: 81 Inventive Pasta Recipes for Saucy People. In 2021, Pashman created the cascatelli, a new pasta shape that went viral, with Time calling it “one of the best inventions of the year.” Anything's Pastable aims to revolutionize our concept of what pasta sauces can be, with recipes for unique and non-traditional dishes like “Kimchi Carbonara” and “Cacio e Pepe e Chili Crisp.”  In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, the panel explores Dana's book review, “Rejecting the Binary” for Slate. She reviews American philosopher and theorist Judith Butler's latest book–the first of theirs published with a nonacademic press–Who's Afraid of Gender. Butler served as Dana's dissertation adviser at the University of California in the late 1990s.  Email us at culturefest@slate.com.  Outro music: “Funny Jam” by Gloria Tells. Endorsements: Dana: A feat of artistry and interpretation, nineteen-year-old American Ilia Malinin's free skate to the Succession theme (composed, of course, by Nicholas Britell). Malinin scored a record 227.79, winning his first world title and executed the best collection of jumps in one program in figure skating history.  Dan: The Big Ears Festival held in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Stephen: Falling into a Cat Stevens rabbit hole. Today's guest is Camila Quiñones -- writer, host of Beings of the Galaxy podcast, and one of my favorite people to talk Star Wars with. This is ESB minutes 110-115, in which Vader delivers the father reveal and Leia senses Luke through the Force. "She Said" tells one of the most powerful and influential stories of our time. As the catalyst for the #MeToo movement, which sent shockwaves throughout every industry, director Maria Schrader's film follows the two New York Times journalists who uncovered years of abuse and sexual assault committed by disgraced and convicted former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Maria was able to spend some time talking with Ema Sasic about her work on the film. Additionally, recently Oscar-shortlisted composer Nicholas Britell also sat down with Will Mavity to talk about his score for the film. The movie is up for your consideration in all eligible categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress for Carey Mulligan, and Best Original Score. The music of "Succession" has become one of the most iconic in modern television. Having exploded in popularity in recent years due to his frequent collaborations with Barry Jenkins, Adam McKay, and now with the success of "Succession" (which has been nominated for and already won a ton of Emmys), Britell is one of the most sought after composers working in television and film today. Robert Glasper is the only artist to have an album debut in the top 10 of 4 different Billboard charts. He's a musical polymath whose resume ranges from Kendrick Lamar to Herbie Hancock. At the piano, he serves up jazz licks worthy of Mary Lou Williams before segueing into a Nirvana cover. Glasper brings his diverse skill set to bear on his latest project, the score for the HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, composed in collaboration with "Succession" soundtracker Nicholas Britell. It's not just Glasper's musical chops that made him the perfect candidate for the gig: in a past life, he was a baller himself. Nate spoke with Glasper about crafting the sound of the 1980s, improvising soundtrack themes on the spot, and what jazz and basketball have in common.
