In a very special episode, Nathaniel interviews one of his favorite horror (and sci-fi) authors, Dan Wells. They talk about his John Cleaver series, The Hollow City, mental health's portrayal in horror and in the media in general, and also discuss the film I Am Not A Serial Killer, which adapts Dan's first novel. Max joins in post-interview to talk more about the movie. Intro/Outro music: Apex by Simon Mathewson Background music: The House of Leaves by Kevin Macleod http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-... This week we attempt to do a review of the themes present in Dan Wells' John Cleaver series (which we've talked about before on the podcast), and indeed do that, but also end up having discussions about all sorts of other things, including abortion, liberterianism, and the psychology of killing. It's a weird but fun episode here on The Christian Artist. LINKS:TwitterYouTubeTwitchPatreonCaleb's WebsiteDiscord
This week we're reviewing the movie that was made based off of the first book in the John Cleaver series by Dan Wells. It was a fantastic watch, and though we give it a bit of a content warning (some dark themes, violence, and language), it's definitely worth checking out if you like the books the movie is based off of. Oh, and this time our good friend Miki comes on to the podcast to help us with the review (she watched the movie as well)! If you want to listen to the episode we did reviewing the book series, check out this link. LINKS:TwitterYouTubeTwitchPatreonCaleb's WebsiteDiscord
This week we talk about one of our favorite series: the John Cleaver series written by Dan Wells. In the series, you are introduced to a teenage sociopath who may be more monstrous than the monsters he is trying to kill. Absolutely recommended by both the Powers Brothers, and we hope you check it out. No spoilers in this review (at least, not really), so feel free to give it a listen and then go read the series! We also end up talking about a lot of moral and philosophical issues that the series touches on, so this episode is a mix of a review and a talk about deep topics. We begin our discussion of Urban Fantasy with a discussion of definitions, which quickly devolves into an argument over what we are actually supposed to be talking about. Moving right along, we explore what sorts of things we find in an Urban Fantasy, and what sorts of rules these stories usually abide by. Dan tells us how he set about writing the John Cleaver books, which certainly qualify as Urban Fantasy, Howard tackles the burning question of where one might start in the project of building a mythos, and Brandon explains his own Urban Fantasy projects, including one failure from which we can all learn an important lesson.
