Radiance: A quality of brightness and happiness that can be seen on a person's face. [singular] She had a youthful radiance about her.Barbara Loots is a Belgian comedian known for blending stand-up, burlesque and cabaret. Under her alter ego Papo Rouge, she plays a self-proclaimed “Rich Housewife from Antwerp,” exploring the space between humor and vulnerability. Her solo show Burn the Bra! pokes fun at perfection and performance pressure — wrapped in humor, glitter and sharp self-awareness.Beyond the stage, Barbara works as a trainer and keynote speaker, giving talks and workshops on humor, presence and body language. Drawing on her background in comedy and improvisation, she combines theatre techniques with real-world communication skills. Her tone on and off stage is sharp, human and unapologetically authentic. Her radiance be it a club or a boardroom invites people to laugh, reflect and feel just a little more alive.

In this episode, we sit down with Tara Couture, author of Radiance of the Ordinary, to explore how her farming journey has reshaped her understanding of life, death, and what it means to live with reverence. From raising and harvesting animals with deep care to questioning industrial food systems, Tara speaks about the sacred responsibility of participating directly in the cycles that feed us. Rather than speaking of “healing,” she embraces the coexistence of joy and sorrow, and the quiet hope found in small, radiant moments. We also discuss writing as a clarifying practice, the limits of social media, and the importance of real human connection. Above all, this conversation is a reminder that beauty and meaning are often found in the most ordinary parts of life.Tara's book: Radiance of the OrdinaryTimestamps[2:40] Discovering Radiance of the Ordinary and returning to the land after a fractured childhood.[7:20] From vegetarianism to sacred harvest: learning from a cattleman mentor and rethinking death.[14:50] The moral weight of killing animals and the responsibility of humane, on-farm slaughter.[20:45] Death as a teacher: how mortality deepens presence and gratitude for ordinary moments.[24:00] Writing as clarity: Substack, storytelling, and resisting the noise of social media.[39:30] Grief and the calves: losing a daughter and being gently tethered back to life.[55:05] Industrial abattoirs, ethics of meat, and why participation matters.[1:08:10] Beauty, craftsmanship, and creating spaces that feel alive and rooted in place.[1:25:15] Homesteading online: comparison, illusion, and the cost of digital validation.[1:47:30] Rapid fire Q&ASponsorsReal Organic Project: Get Involved. Recorded live at a SAND Community Gathering (Feb 2026) Dr. Samah Jabr, a Palestinian psychiatrist and author of Radiance in Pain and Resilience, joins Dr. Mays Imad (with questions from the audience chat) for a conversation about what it means to stay human when the structures meant to protect people are the ones doing the harm. Drawing on decades of clinical work inside the occupation, Dr. Jabr moves past the “sanitized” versions of trauma to speak directly to the heart of colonial harm in Palestine. Central to this dialogue is an exploration of the deep ontological differences between Western psychiatric models and Palestinian lived experience. While Western frameworks often pathologize the individual through the lens of PTSD, Dr. Jabr introduces the concept of iptila—viewing tribulations through a framework of agency, faith, and collective endurance. She challenges the frequent romanticization of sumud (steadfastness), reframing it not as a poetic trope, but as a grueling relational practice and an ethical refusal to disappear when everything conspires toward Palestinian erasure. In a reality where the harm never ends, memory becomes a battlefield, grief a form of testimony, bearing witness an active refusal to normalize the unacceptable, and storytelling a vital survival infrastructure against the assassination of memory. In this episode of The Hive Poetry Collective, poet Cate Lycurgus opens the show with a reading of “Jacaranda” by Shirley Kaufman, setting the tone for a conversation attuned to beauty, impermanence, and change. Host Julie Murphy then speaks with Cate about her chapbook Seacliff and her new manuscript, Radiance, Despite.Moving poem by poem, they explore erosion and belonging, caregiving and grief, fractured faith, and the intimate question at the heart of her work: what is care but where we put our hands?Cate's poems are precise, unflinching, and luminous — attentive to the ways love reshapes us, and to how even what has been broken may still shine.

When Alison and I were starting this podcast, she asked who was on my dream list of people to talk to. I said Tara Couture of Slowdown Farmstead and today that is what happened. In an incredibly long and appropriately slow morning we sat down together to talk for the first time and it was like visiting with an old friend I had waited a very long time to see again. Tara once shared her life on Instagram and I followed her avidly there, listening to her wisdom both practical and philosophical on butchery and growing and shifting, and how in the midst of life we are in death. Taking words from the screen to the printed page, Tara recently wrote a book, Radiance of the Ordinary. Since I had dropped off social media and Tara soon would herself, I was no longer reading her words, so when my copy arrived in the mail it felt like unwrapping a long-awaited, much anticipated letter from a beloved mentor. In this episode we discussed many things including what does it look like to be living life at a human pace, as a human, in an ever-increasingly inhumane world? Is it even possible or practical to be a human in a world that expects you to be, and treats you as, a machine? Tara and I went through a lot of tea and boza over this long conversation so I invite you to settle in and join in with us, and let's be human together.* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *One Earth Health make the grass-fed organ supplements we use and trust. Send a textI homebrew all my games. Well, not all of them. Over the years I have tried my hand at running modules to mixed results. As I have talked about before on this podcast, I like the freedom of homebrew, the ability to change things up at a moments notice and the freedom to let the players take me on a ride. As a matter of fact, I am putting together a Twilight 2000 game and while I am stealing the name and location setting of the classic first adventure, I am homebrewing everything else.Recently I have been making these homebrew adventures a little more formal in there set up and construction and I have even written a series of adventures for Oddfish Games, How To Roleplay With Your Cat, that hopefully will be available at GenCon this year. I wrote a one-shot Call of Cthulhu game that came out beautifully last month and I have gone down the path of formalizing my upcoming adventures, for posterity's sake of nothing else.I decided that since I had a smattering of experience now, I should probably sit down with the experts and chat about how to write an adventure for roleplaying games and since I have a podcast designed for just such a topic, here you go.On this episode Mike, Christina and I are going to talk about writing an adventure for roleplaying games. The basics, structure, format, and of course the does and don'ts.Christina, Do you remember the first time you sat down and officially created a new adventure? In this episode of the Radical Radiance Podcast, host Rebecca George welcomes Alicia Hamilton, author of 'Wonder: Rediscovering Our Awe of God and Reclaiming a Childlike Faith.' They discuss the importance of rediscovering awe in God, the role of the Psalms in understanding His character, and the significance of justice in God's nature. Alicia shares her journey of writing the book, the difference between childlike and childish faith, and how to combat the distractions that steal our wonder. The conversation emphasizes the need for a deeper relationship with God and the importance of discipleship in nurturing faith in the next generation.Wonder BookTakeawaysThe best books are written, lived first. When we see God, how can we not be in delight of Him?The Psalms are these descriptions of God's character, of God's beauty.Justice is really evidence of God's care too.Childlike faith is resting in God.Self-absorption is a wonder stealer.Worship fuels our wonder and gratitude. The Holy Spirit stirs the wonder in our hearts. We need to understand who God is to shape our identity.Chapters00:00 Introduction to Radical Radiance Podcast01:03 Celebrating Alicia's New Book: Wonder02:01 Rediscovering Awe and Delight in God05:52 Exploring the Psalms: A Journey of Wonder08:45 Understanding God's Justice and Love13:59 Reclaiming Childlike Faith vs. Childish Faith17:23 Identifying Wonder Stealers in Our Lives20:10 Discipling the Next Generation: Rediscovering Wonder23:18 Radiance in Jesus: The Gift of His PresenceSponsors:Live Oak Integrative Health:Visit liveoakintegrativehealth.com/radiance — and as a Radical Radiance listener, you'll receive a discounted rate on service packages.Christian Standard Bible:Pre-order your She Reads Truth spiral bound volumes now and start reading with clarity, space to journal, and joy!
What does feminine responsibility actually mean? Not as a mindset, aesthetic, or online trope, but as a biological and embodied reality? In this powerful returning conversation, Johanna is joined once again by mentor and teacher Martine De Luna, who brings over 14 years of experience mentoring women into a grounded, nuanced discussion on feminine biology, safety, stewardship, and mature womanhood.Together, they explore what it means to live femininity beyond performance, reclaiming responsibility not as self-blame or emotional bypassing, but as adult stewardship of the female body, nervous system, and relational world. What feminine biology actually refers to, beyond personality, roles, or aestheticsWhy safety is the primal foundation of feminine embodimentThe biological meaning of feminine authority and the “alpha female” in natureFeminine responsibility as stewardship, not control or self-sacrificeWhy offense is not an emotion, but an interpretive reactionHow unprocessed wounds distort perception in relationshipsFeminine maturity vs. performative femininity (on both sides of the spectrum)Nervous system regulation, polarity, and relational clarityWhy femininity is not incompetence, passivity, or collapseHonoring female desire, intelligence, and competence without rejecting biologyThis episode is an invitation to stop outsourcing regulation, stop fighting reality, and step into the elegant power of embodied feminine responsibility — rooted in truth, biology, and lived experience. If you've ever felt caught between hyper-independence and performative softness, this conversation offers a grounded third path: clear, embodied womanhood.Martine De Luna is a mentor and teacher who has been guiding women for over a decade. Hello children, have you ever heard of WAR? Depending on who you ask about it, you may hear it described in a variety of ways. Some say it never changes. Some say it has changed. Some ask what it's good for and others answer “absolutely nothing.” Here at the Smashterpieces School of Radiance we have our own answer: war is a ballista that crits several times in the span of a single battle. What the hell, man? That just doesn't seem right, but the numbers don't lie. The numbers only hurt. We'll be back next time for our final installment of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, for war can only continue to march on.
On this episode of the podcast, host Dr Pasquale Iannone goes back to Japan in 1969 to discuss a lesser-known film from the iconoclastic New Wave filmmaker Nagisa Oshima. Oshima is best-known for subversive, controversial works such as the erotic drama In The Realm of the Senses (1976) and the David Bowie-starring war film Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence (1983)The episode focuses on Boy (1969) an earlier picture from Oshima which is based on a remarkable true story. The film follows a con artist couple who travel across Japan with their two young sons. Their main money making scheme involves provoking minor car accidents and feigning injury to claim compensation from befuddled drivers. The eldest boy, 10-year-old Toshio, is trained up by his parents to take part in the scams.Boy was recently released on Blu-Ray by Radiance as part of a box set of Oshima films titled Radical Japan.Joining Pasquale to discuss Boy is Professor Jennifer Coates. Jennifer is Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Sheffield. Her many publications include books such as Film Viewing in Postwar Japan, 1945-1968: An Ethnographic Study (2022) and Making Icons: Repetition and the Female Image in Japanese Cinema, 1945-1964 (2016).Jennifer and Pasquale explore the landscape of postwar Japanese cinema and Oshima's beginnings as a critic. They then turn to Boy, first placing the film in the context of Oshima's broader career and then discussing key scenes, commenting on elements such as use of location, voiceover as well as the director's masterful use of widescreen.
In this enlightening episode, Bahar is joined by Manish Mallas, a neuroscience-informed mindfulness teacher whose lineage traces back to the Buddha himself. Blending ancient wisdom with modern neuroscience, Manish brings clarity and depth to the practice of mindfulness for contemporary life. The conversation explores the transformative power of mindfulness, breathwork, and emotional regulation, revealing how these tools can enhance presence, performance, and peace, especially during midlife transitions. Together, they discuss the role of ancestry in shaping spiritual awareness, the science behind meditation and breath, and the importance of taking radical personal responsibility for one’s emotional wellbeing. Manish also unpacks how scent and sensory awareness can influence emotional states and how a consistent mindfulness practice can lead to profound personal awakening. This episode, in partnership with Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat, invites listeners to slow down, look inward, and embrace the art of conscious living in a distracted world. Key Takeaways Mindfulness is a practical pathway to transformation. Breathwork is fundamental for emotional regulation and optimal performance. Heritage and ancestry deepen the understanding of mindfulness. Science and spirituality together strengthen awareness. Scent profoundly influences emotional states. Presence in daily life builds resilience and calm. Starting small with mindfulness creates lasting change. Retreats deepen the connection to self and purpose. Midlife can be a powerful time for awakening. Radical responsibility fuels emotional growth and freedom. Send us a textWelcome to You Heard it Here Last, where we talk about news, you've already heard. We start this week off with an article from EN World about Daggerheart and Darrington Press.https://www.enworld.org/threads/daggerheart-sold-out-in-two-weeks-has-three-year-plan-in-place.716975/The article reports that the first printing of Daggerheart was planned to last a year. Instead, it sold out in 2 weeks. But don't fear, the article goes on to say that Darrington Press has a 3-year plan in place for Daggerheart, Yipee! The article is based on another article by Business Insider that highlights Ed Lopez and Ben Van Der Fluit the COO and Senior Vice President of Business and Content Development respectively. Now I am an avowed capitalist, unlike my co-hosts, but even I get annoyed with the little games designed to separate a fool and his money. I mean you can't even read the original article at Business Insider unless you pay them money. If any of you are buying this crap, then shame on you. Darrington Press is simply a WOTC and Hasbro wannabe that are adapting the same bullshit that we have seen from those companies, I mean they even hired the people that come up with the bullshit to begin with. You mean to tell me that professionals in a business behind the most successful actual play show in the history of actual play shows screwed up their product ordering by 96%. I mean not even weathermen and the airlines are that bad. On top of it, if you tried to pick up the game at GenCon then you saw their business idea first hand. Small windows where the product was available everyday to create artificial scarcity and only provide the most expensive version of the game. I mean you couldn't even buy just the basic rulebook. You had to get the entire starter set, which was of course…more expensive. But anyway, that's my opinion. For our next bit of information, we are diving into a specific release.https://www.enworld.org/threads/rpg-print-news-%E2%80%93-traveller-d-d-mothership-and-more.717021/https://www.nobleknight.com/P/2148379689/Omendrome?awid=1086Omendrome by Alewood Games is a brand-new softcover adventure for Mothership using the ARKYVR supplement. Now I have heard a ton about Mothership, but I haven't read any of it. Lots of word of mouth and lots of love, but it just hasn't crossed my path and this is the first time I have heard anything about the ARKYVR supplement. Mothership is a Sci-Fi Horror Game that lets you play out all your Aliens and Space Hulk adventures. ARKYVR is a system that builds on that putting the characters behind the lens so to speak and letting them “Film” the action and choose the direction of the stories. All of that sounds amazing. The Omendrome adventure set puts the player character in the driver's seat of a pirate TV station that films and shows all of the horrors of space. Are those horrors real or just made up for the TV, well the players and characters get to decide that. I love the TV aspect of horror. My favorite Call of Cthulhu games are set in the modern era with the players taking on rolls of TV employees. And one of my favorite cult horror films is Videodrome which clearly Omendrome drew heavily from when they wrote the adventure. So Mothership, ARKYVR and Omendrome just hit my buy list for 2026.

The Seven Attributes of Jesus (Christology 1)Big Idea: Jesus Christ is not just a chapter in the story of God; He is the Author, the Hero, and the Ending. When we see Jesus for who He truly is, every other priority in our lives finds its proper place.Today we begin a nine-week journey through the Book of Hebrews, a letter written to magnify the greatness of Jesus Christ. Hebrews isn't primarily about religious rules, moral improvement, or spiritual techniques. It's about Jesus—who He is and what He has done. Everything else flows from that foundation. The original audience was likely Jewish Christians living under Roman rule, facing intense persecution. As pressure mounted, many were tempted to abandon their faith in Jesus and return to the familiarity and safety of traditional Judaism. Hebrews speaks directly into that tension with one clear message: Jesus is greater than anyone or anything that came before Him. To walk away from Him would be to walk away from the fulfillment of all God's promises. The author of Hebrews remains anonymous, one of the great mysteries of the New Testament. While Paul may have influenced it, the writing style is far more polished and rhetorically sophisticated than Paul's letters. Hebrews chapter 1 proves this immediately. Verses 1–4 form a single, majestic sentence in the original Greek—an exordium, designed to grab attention with both beauty and weight.Hebrews 1:1–4 (NLT) sets the stage:“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son…”In the Old Testament, God spoke in fragments—a dream here, a burning bush there, a prophet's warning along the way. But in Jesus, God didn't just send messages; He sent the Message. This is Christology—the study of the person and work of Jesus Christ—and Hebrews wastes no time getting to the point. In verses 2–3, the author unleashes a rapid-fire description of Jesus using seven distinct attributes. In Scripture, the number seven represents completeness and perfection. Together, these form a full portrait of the Son.Jesus is the Heir—the goal of history. God has promised everything to Him as an inheritance. History is not random; it is moving toward the coronation of King Jesus. He is the “why” behind all creation.Jesus is the Creator—the architect of reality. Through Him, God made the universe. Jesus is not a created being; He is the source of all things. Nothing exists apart from His will.Jesus is the Radiance—the shining glory of God. He doesn't merely reflect God's glory like the moon reflects sunlight; He radiates it. The Son is the visible manifestation of the invisible God—“Light from Light.”Jesus is the Expression—the exact imprint of God's nature. The Greek word charaktēr refers to a stamp or seal. Jesus doesn't resemble God; He perfectly represents Him. To see Jesus is to see God.Jesus is the Sustainer—the glue of the cosmos. He holds everything together by the power of His word. The universe doesn't persist on autopilot; it endures because Jesus commands it to.Jesus is the Savior—the cleanser of sin. When He purified us from our sins, the work was finished. Unlike Old Testament priests who never sat down, Jesus completed the work once for all. Finally, Jesus is the Ruler—the seated King. He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven, a position of total authority. The victory is won.Hebrews 1:4 reminds us that Jesus is far greater than angels, traditions, or anything else we might be tempted to trust. For believers facing hardship, this truth re-centers everything. The message of Hebrews is clear:...

Clean energy isn't just good for the planet, it's good for your wallet. Solar and wind are now the cheapest power sources in history. But too many politicians would rather protect billionaires than help working families save on their bills. Real change starts when we stop allowing the ultra - rich to write our energy policy and run our government. Let's choose affordable, renewable power. Clean energy means lower costs, more freedom, and a planet that can actually breathe. Promote Celtic culture through music at http://celticmusicpodcast.com/. A New Year means new resolutions and for many of us that includes making a pledge to chip away at the ever-growing backlog. Are you going to tackle a new series? Revisit an old classic? Are some of last year's hits on sale for the right price? Or do you need something effervescent to pair with a white meat? Eric, Victor, and special guest John Carson discuss what drives them to check games of the list, and whether that's even something we should be beating ourselves up over.
