Brilliance of the Seas transatlantic cruise review. Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas takes center stage this week as John shares his 23-night back-to-back cruise from Barcelona to Boston. The cruise combined an eight-night Western Europe sailing with a 15-night transatlantic cruise featuring Iceland, Greenland, Scotland, Portugal, Spain, and Atlantic Canadian maritimes. He discusses the ship's classic Radiance-class design, oceanview cabin, dining, entertainment, rough seas, and why Brilliance remains a favorite despite being more than 20 years old. Plus, hear what it's like to visit the Blue Lagoon, chase the Northern Lights, explore Greenland's remote villages, and whether a transatlantic cruise is worth adding to your bucket list. For years we've been told that resilience is the answer.Build resilience.Become stronger.Bounce back. And while resilience has served us beautifully, what if it was never meant to be the destination? In this deeply personal episode, I share the philosophy that has quietly been weaving itself through my work for years—a way of living I now call The Venusian Revolution. This isn't about rejecting resilience. It's about discovering what resilience has been preparing us for.A life that is not only healed...But fully alive.Together we'll explore the movement from fixing to remembering, from striving to relationship, and from simply surviving to becoming exquisitely available to life itself.Because healing is part of the journey. But aliveness is the destination.✨ In this episode, we explore:
Beloved, this is our last installment of Empathica's Journey through the Emotional Circuits. When was the last time you laughed—really laughed?I'm a night owl, and I spend time in a few communities on X. Late at night, we shake off the day's stress, step out of conversing about current day issues and economics and joke around, and laugh until it hurts.Maybe you have a few people in your life who can pull real laughter out of you. Or a show you go back to when you need a deep, belly laugh.Every time I laugh so hard that I can barely breathe, I'm reminded of how rarely I laugh at all.Capricorn's take life too damn serious. Guilty!So…..When was the last time you did something purely for the joy of it—without a productive purpose, without justification, without that voice in your head whispering…Who do you think you are? There was a part of you that was born knowing how to play.A child who danced without choreography. Who imagined entire worlds before breakfast. Who expressed joy as naturally as breathing. And somewhere along the way — through criticism, through responsibilities that came too soon, through a world that valued output over aliveness — that part of you was told to sit down and be serious.Your play circuit — the neurological system responsible for joy, creativity, bonding, and spontaneity — didn't die.It went into hiding. It's still there, beneath the productivity guilt and the fear of being seen as foolish.Still waiting. And if you've been wondering why rest doesn't actually restore you, why weekends feel like another obligation, why joy feels like something other people get to have — this is why.Let me explain how this works. The play circuit lives in the interplay between your limbic system (emotion) and prefrontal cortex (thinking). When activated, it releases endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine — the neurochemistry of happiness, creativity, and social bonding. In children, this system develops trust, resilience, and flexibility. In adults, it sustains innovation, intimacy, and mental health. It is not a luxury. It is a biological necessity. But when trauma enters childhood — when joy was interrupted, when lightness was punished, when the environment required seriousness for survival — the play circuit shuts down. The brain learns: Happiness is dangerous. Being seen in my joy makes me a target. I must earn the right to feel good. And unconscious vows form: I must always be productive. It's not safe to express my joy. My creativity is not valuable. These vows don't just steal your fun. They steal your flexibility. They rigidify your thinking. They make rest feel like laziness and joy feel like irresponsibility. They slowly drain the color from a life that was meant to be vivid. Here's what happens neurologically when the play circuit is suppressed chronically:Your dopamine pathways become reward-deficient. You stop being able to feel satisfaction from small pleasures because your brain has been trained that only achievement counts.Your serotonin regulation falters. You feel low-grade depression that no amount of accomplishment can fix because accomplishment was never the source of well-being — simple presence was.Your endorphins stay dormant. You lose access to natural pain relief, stress resilience, and the physical lightness that comes from unstructured movement and laughter.Research on play deprivation in adults shows clear correlations with increased rigidity, depression, and reduced problem-solving capacity.Your joy is not frivolous, love. It is the foundation of a flexible, creative, connected life.Without it, you are running on fumes — efficient, maybe, but not alive. Here's what I want you to understand: You don't heal your way into joy. Joy is the healing. It's not the reward for finishing your inner work. It's the practice that makes the inner work sustainable.I created an audio journey to help you begin remembering this. The journey is called The Radiance of Joy, and it's guided by Empathica — your Unconscious Emotional Circuit Breaker. She understands that your inability to relax isn't a character flaw. It's a nervous system that learned early: If I let my guard down, something bad will happen. If I enjoy myself too much, I will be punished. If I shine too brightly, I will be dimmed. This work isn't about forcing yourself to be happy. It's about creating enough safety that happiness becomes possible again without guilt, without apology, without needing to justify why you deserve it.At the end of the audio journey, I offer an invitation: Do one thing this week that serves no productive purpose whatsoever.Doodle. Hum. Walk without a destination. Wear something ridiculous in your own home.Let five minutes exist without optimization.Notice what arises — the guilt, the discomfort, the strange unfamiliarity of unearned pleasure — and let it pass through you like weather. You don't have to fix it. You just have to notice it. And in that noticing, you are already loosening the vow.If you want to go deeper — if you're ready to explore which productivity contracts are keeping your radiance contained — I invite you to explore the full Oracle Journey. This work isn't about becoming less responsible. It's about restoring access to the full spectrum of your aliveness — including the part that knows how to sparkle for no reason at all.Joy isn't the reward for finishing your healing, love. Joy is the healing.KassandraAGAIN: Tap into a AUDIO JOURNEY into the JOY CIRCUIT. Enjoy the 10-minute audio journey to help you meet the part of yourself that carries this sense of internal care.

Send us Fan MailI was sixteen years old in 1985, sitting around a table with a group of friends, a pile of dice, some character sheets, and a copy of the James Bond 007 roleplaying game. Now, I'd seen the movies. I'd watched Bond race across exotic locations, escape impossible situations, and somehow always come out on top. But that day was different. We weren't watching James Bond. We were James Bond.I still remember the adventure taking us through the famous speedboat chase from Live and Let Die. The GM described the engines roaring to life. The water spraying across the deck. The bad guys closing in behind us. Every turn of the river felt dangerous. Every die roll mattered. What sticks with me all these years later isn't whether we followed the movie exactly. Honestly, I couldn't tell you. What I remember is the feeling. The excitement around the table. The tension as we tried to stay one step ahead of our pursuers. The laughter when something went wrong. The cheers when a crazy plan actually worked. For a few hours, a bunch of teenagers in the Midwest weren't sitting around a table anymore. We were spies. We were secret agents. We were caught up in a world of danger, intrigue, and adventure. And that's the thing about espionage as a genre. At its best, it makes you feel clever. It makes you feel like information matters. It creates suspense not because of what you know, but because of what you don't know. Who can you trust? Who's lying? What's really going on behind the scenes? The older I get and the more games I run, the more I realize just how powerful those ideas are. Whether you're running fantasy, science fiction, horror, or historical games, espionage elements can elevate a campaign in ways that few other genres can.So today, we're going to talk about the espionage genre. We'll look at where it came from, some of the movies, books, television shows, and games that helped define it, and the key ingredients that make spy stories so compelling. Most importantly, we'll discuss how you can bring those elements into your own tabletop roleplaying games to create adventures filled with mystery, intrigue, tension, and unforgettable moments.Because sometimes the most exciting thing at the table isn't defeating the villain. It's discovering who the villain really is.Mike, do you have any specific memories of your favorite espionage movie?

Send us Fan MailWelcome to you heard it here last where we talk about news, you've already heard.https://www.enworld.org/threads/paizo-laying-off-12-due-to-fallout-from-diamonds-bankruptcy.719446/No one likes layoffsPiazo, the publisher of Pathfinder among other games has announced it will be laying off 12 employees due to the fallout from Diamond Comics bankruptcy last year. We discussed the Diamond Comics bankruptcy and the possible fallout from that in a previous episode of You Heard it Here Last, but it looks like the ripple effects are starting to kick in.Piazo states they lost over 2 million dollars in 2025 due to the seizure of their books being held by Diamond Comics on consignment. And the layoffs as well as other cutbacks are temporary until they can start to see some profitability.2 million bucks in our industry aint chump change. It's a big deal and it's a shame to see companies like Piazo having to deal with the fallout.Mike, give us your business thoughts on this one.[Kick to Mike]Christina, how about your ethics hat, anything to discuss with this one?[Kick to Christina]Next, we find ourselves going back to Hasbro and D&D.https://www.enworld.org/threads/d-d-beyond-admits-that-blocking-drops-sharing-was-not-the-right-decision-will-release-yearly-bundles-of-drops-content-for-sale-for-non-subscribers.719383/D&D Beyond has released a statement about its decision to not allow sharing on their new drops. We talked about this announcement on a previous YHIHL and evidently the users have expressed their dissatisfaction. In a post D&D Beyond stated "It's become clear from your feedback that there were two main things we got wrong with D&D Beyond Drops: content sharing and non-subscriber access," the post also states that not allowing sharing for drops "was not the right decision."They followed this statement up with doing…absolutely nothing to change it.So, I guess an admission of a mistake is something, but damn it. Fix the mistake. It's easy to just turn on sharing again, or am I asking for too much.Mike, thoughts?[Kick to Mike]Christina, what about you?[Kick to Christina]And there you have it, all the news you've already heard.

What if one of the most overlooked gateways to vitality, radiance, pleasure, emotional fluidity, and our capacity to receive has been waiting beneath the heart all along? In this episode of The Vital Goddess Podcast, we explore the diaphragm through a deeply feminine lens—as The Tidekeeper Within.Together we'll explore how years of responsibility, stress, held emotions, and adaptation can subtly shape our breathing patterns, influence our relationship with pleasure, and impact our ability to feel fully alive, expressed, and at home within ourselves. This is not breathwork as optimization. Not breathwork as damage control. Not breathwork simply to regulate ourselves enough to return to productivity. This is sensual breathwork.Breath as relationship.Breath as remembrance.Breath as a bridge back into the body.A way of rewilding the breath and restoring the body's innate ocean rhythm.Because when we breathe like the ocean...we remember.

Send us Fan MailHave you ever had this awkward moment in your roleplaying game?“As you turn the corner you come face to face with an animated walking corpse! Give me a Fright Check”“Uh, this game doesn't have fright checks.”“What, Seriously…hang on, surely it has a mechanic…crap.”If so, then you are not alone. I pretty much pulled that dialogue word for word out of one of the games I was running. The more games you play the more you learn about game systems, what works, what doesn't work, and more specifically what you like. Now I am a fan of playing a variety of systems. We change games up a lot, not just because I like to try new genre's but because I want to try new systems and over the years I have found a few mechanics that I think are just amazing. On this episode we are going to talk about our Favorite Mechanics in roleplaying games. The little things that we might take for granted originally but as we move from game to game we realize we can't live without them.Mike, Chistina and I are going take turns revealing our favorite game mechanics, what game they came from, or at least what game we first encountered them, and why we think they are the bomb.Let's just dive right into this one.Mike, give me one of your favorite game mechanics that you just can't live without.

Welcome back to the Soul Rising Book Club! In Chapters 12-14
In this bonus episode, Amoda offers a discourse from The Radiance of Being online retreat (November 2025). She explores what it truly means to welcome life as it is. Far beyond a spiritual practice or technique, welcoming everything is revealed as a way of living—an attitude of openness that allows the light of being to shine through all experience. Amoda points to the subtle resistance that creates suffering and reinforces the sense of a separate self. Through a softening of rejection, judgment, and the need for life to be different, we begin to discover a deeper intimacy with reality. Joy and sorrow, silence and noise, peace and turbulence all arise within the same field of awareness and share the same underlying radiance. This talk invites us to recognize that nothing is outside the light of being. Every experience, no matter how ordinary or challenging, can become a doorway to the sacred when met without resistance. As the boundaries of self soften, life is no longer experienced as something to struggle against, but as an expression of a deeper unity. In this openness, we discover the stillness within movement, the silence within sound, and the presence of the divine in all things.
Send us Fan MailWelcome to you heard it here last were we talk about news, you've already heard.Let's start todays episode off with…WoWAnd I mean that in a good sense.https://www.enworld.org/threads/dungeons-dragons-announces-gen-con-plans-including-a-takeover-of-6-story-building.719238/Wizards of the Coast has released some of it's plans for GenCon. And it's pretty cool. The recently announced plans include a live performance of their Dungeon Masters show, a live concert, and a "short-play" experience. All of this will take place at the Indiana Repertory Theater, a six-story building in the heart of downtown Indianapolis that's being taken over by D&D and turned into a "D&D Tower," which Wizards describes as "six D&D-ified floors and adventures galore."As everyone should be well aware of by now we are not fans of Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast, or D&D but for a change I have to say, good on them. When I first attended GenCon way back in the Milwaukee days the exhibit hall floor was dominated by a D&D castle. Filled with all things TSR it was glorious to behold and a joy to the eyes. I have missed that over the years. I have missed the biggest game in our hobby being basically absent from GenCon for far to long so It's about time they changed course and brought back a presence to the convention. And it looks like it's going to be a massive presence indeed.Christina, what do you think about D&D taking over a 6-story building in Indy for GenCon?[Kick to Christina]Mike, what about you. Glad to see D&D back in a big way to GenCon?[Kick to Mike]Up next, we have our own GenCon announcement straight from Oddfish Games.www.oddfishgames.comAdventure Scents by Oddfish Games will be at booth 720 this year in the exhibit hall, which is basically the same location they had last year so it should be easy enough for fans to find. On top of that cool news, we have a couple of new additions to announce that will be sold exclusively at GenCon.First, we have a complete campaign book for How to RPG With Your Cats. Scratch Marks: The Nine Lives of Claw Malone will be available for purchase at the booth. This campaign book has three distinct adventures for How to RPG With Your Cat that can be played separately or together as a complete campaign. Just like the core game you can play this with any gaming system or as a stand-alone system with your cats or inspired by your cats. And after GenCon you will be able to pick it up at Oddfishgames.com.Next, the Systems Reference Document for Leviathan Rising will be available. Not a QuickStart, because it won't have any art or diagrams, but the basic rules for Dr. Christina Stiso's new game will be available for download. She will be running three sessions of the game, but they sold out fast. So, if you didn't get a chance to register to play then stop by the booth, scan the code, and get a copy of the rules to play around with. Leviathan Rising will be going to crowdfunding soon to be able to match the incredible game system with some incredible art and layout.Basically, make the Adventure Scents by Oddfish Games booth 720 a must stop on your exhibit hall foray this year.Christina, any other tidbits of information about Leviathan Rising you want to share?[Kick to Christina]Mike, are you excited to be able to offer some new things this year for GenCon?[Kick to Mike]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

Jupiter is the planet of expansion, and as it moves into Leo, the sign of radiance, creativity, courage, and joy, it invites us to ask a powerful question: How are you ready to expand your radiance? In this special four-part astrology series, recorded live inside Star Powered Circle, Leslie Tagorda explores what Jupiter in Leo means for leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers who are ready to make their mark. Together, we explore how this transit can amplify your visibility, creativity, confidence, and leadership, while uncovering the beliefs that may be keeping you from fully stepping into your brilliance. Jupiter expands whatever it touches, and Leo reminds us that our light is meant to be shared. This is an invitation to stop dimming, trust your brilliance, and lead with more joy, courage, and authenticity.
The path of war is long, and it leads here. And I mean LONG. Like, really long. Almost two years long, it turns out. But we've finally arrived, we've finally entered the finale of Smashterpiece #50, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Against all odds we have arrived to liberate our people, or more specifically liberate your ears from not having a podcast to play in them. Sure, that may not be as glorious as Ike's crusade to free a kingdom and return a princess to her home, but if you squint real hard you can barely tell the difference. We're essentially heroes in basically the same exact way as Ike if you really don't think about it! Could this be considered stolen valor? Probably.Join us next time as we all become orphans in Smashterpiece #51, MOTHER 3!
In this bonus episode from The Radiance of Being online retreat (November 2025), Amoda explores one of the deepest assumptions of the human mind: the belief that we are separate individuals moving through a world that exists outside of us. Through gentle inquiry, she invites us to examine this unchallenged sense of "me" and discover that what we take ourselves to be is not a fixed identity, but a constantly changing pattern of thoughts, emotions, sensations, and memories. As these shifting experiences are seen more clearly, another possibility begins to reveal itself: the quiet, ever-present awareness within which all experience arises. From this recognition, the veil of separation gradually becomes transparent. Life is no longer lived from fear, contraction, or self-protection, but from an effortless openness that allows greater clarity, compassion, and freedom. This is not an invitation to adopt a new philosophy or spiritual belief, but to discover directly the undivided field of being that has always been here. As the illusion of separation softens, what remains is the light of being itself—the peace, love, and freedom that are never truly absent.
Send us Fan MailI know this isn't table top roleplaying, but stay with me for a moment. When I was a senior in high school the guy who ran our gaming and miniatures sessions invited us all to a Murder Mystery Party. We received an elaborate invitation with information about the “character” we were to play for the party. It also had suggestions for what to wear. When we showed up, his place was completely decorated. Lights, soft music, drinks and appetizers. He even had a waiter and waitress serving guests. When I made my way into his house it was like I was on another planet. I felt like an actor in a movie and even though I had never done anything like this before and I was a little scared about it, I got into it very quickly.By the end of the night, we had solved the murder…the waiter did it by the way, and I walked away having one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life. That night has always stuck with me, because it was more than the plot and more then the game. It was even more than hanging out with a lot of my friends and making new ones. It was really about the experience of the game and that was all created by the little things he did that often go overlooked. The lights, the music, the costumes, the food and the drink. On this episode we are going to talk about setting the stage for your games and how you can turn that dial up to 11 to really make an impact.Christina, have you ever had one of those fully immersive games?[Kick to Christina]

Is it "I'm trying to get to a good place" — or is it "I'm already in a good place, and it's getting even better"?That one shift in perception is the difference between a woman who is magnetic, radiant, and available to receive — and a woman who is braced, desperate, and pushing away the very things she wants. In this episode, Johanna unpacks one of the most powerful identity upgrades available to you right now: moving from the "bad to good" story to the "good to great" story — and what changes in your body, your energy, and your results when you do.---IN THIS EPISODE• The "two women walk into a room" thought experiment — same circumstances, completely different energy, completely different outcomes• Why "trying to get to a good place" creates heaviness — and the simple reframe that lifts it• 2 Corinthians 3:18 (Amplified) — being transformed from one degree of glory to even more glory• How to ease the pressure when life feels heavy: the worst-case scenario exercise that brings you back to trust• Why power does not come from "having it all" — and why believing it does will keep you without• The practice of feeling the feeling of having it, before it arrives in the physical• You don't get brownie points for saving joy for a special occasion---TIMESTAMPS00:00 — The perception shift: good to great, not bad to good02:26 — The heaviness of "trying to make things work" — and how to drop it04:30 — What it looks like to visualize your life through this new lens06:52 — The two women thought experiment: same life, different radiance08:57 — Which woman catches the attention of good men?11:10 — How the good-to-great baseline transforms every area of life12:59 — 2 Corinthians 3:18: from glory to even more glory17:30 — How to ease the pressure: the worst-case scenario exercise22:14 — Someone out there would exchange lives with you in a heartbeat23:59 — Why power from "having it all" keeps you always without25:58 — You can't crave what you haven't sampled — activating the felt sense now28:10 — You are more powerful than you give yourself credit for28:20 — Closing invitation to book a free call---RESOURCES MENTIONED:A free masterclass for women who long to reclaim beauty, imagination, feminine wholeness, and the deeper magic of being fully alive.✨ The Embodied Epic Class (FREE)❤️

Women have been taught to chase beauty through self-rejection.But the feminine body blossoms through love, pleasure, and relationship. In this episode of The Vital Goddess Podcast, we explore how sacred sensuality can tame the inner critic and restore your natural radiance—not by fighting the mind, but by creating a different atmosphere within the body.Together we explore:Why women often struggle with body criticism despite knowing "better" The atmosphere of surveillance, comparison, shame, and competition many women inheritHow sensuality changes the atmosphere of thought and perceptionThe connection between Venus in Leo, radiance, beauty, and embodied loveWhy women deserve to experience themselves outside the atmosphere of competitionThe profound relationship between Love and ErosWhy the breasts are where love becomes embodiedTaoist wisdom on the heart, breasts, kidneys, yoni, and the circulation of life forceThe role of oxytocin, nervous system softening, and feminine nourishment How daily breast massage supports the circulation of love, nourishment, and radianceThis episode also includes a guided Embodied Love Breast Massage, one of my favorite Taoist self-care rituals for women in their Second Spring.Downloadable Resources:

Send us Fan MailWelcome to you heard it here last where we talk about news, you've already heard.https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06spb8wSeveral years ago, I stumbled across one of the greatest podcasts I have ever listened to. It was called the Lovecraft Investigations and it started with the Case of Charles Dexter Ward. I'm a huge fan of Call of Cthulhu and I've pretty much read all of Lovecraft over the years. Some good, some bad, but all of it steeped in the myth and mythos. Lovecraft was very good at atmosphere. This podcast was perfect. It felt like a real investigative podcast and with BBC 4 backing it the production quality was incredible. Over the next several years the Lovecraft Investigation podcast continued to slowly put out some fantastic episodes that really felt like you were in a Call of Cthulhu game. Then in 2023 it just stopped. Not a big surprise because podcasts stop all the time. But I was generally bummed. But good news does come to those that wait.https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/julian-simpson/lovecraft-investigations-the-call-of-cthulhu?ref=bk-ads-ga-p-20&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23860975866&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz9_QBhD_ARIsADnSCfDc7zHCkZjWINm47NNyZOau7v-un5Z63IHEX0AHXiH66Pn_noXAb-AaAokFEALw_wcBLovecraft Investigations is coming out with Season 5. The Call of Cthulhu. This time they are going through Backerkit and all the original audio cast is joining the new season. They are offering digital downloads of the entire audio play as well as physical copies and extra books and items to make the entire thing special. If you haven't listened to the original BBC4 podcast do yourself a favor and do it, right now, then come back to the episode. But even if you don't want to go back and dive in you don't have to because the new Season 5 is designed for people who haven't heard any of the old episodes. I am stoked and yes I've already pledged.Christina, what do you think of audio plays like this? Is there a place for them in today's CGI world?[Kick to Christina]What about you Mike, did you ever listen to the original Lovecraft Investigations?[Kick to Mike]Up next, we have more Conan!https://ttrpgfans.com/new-conan-the-barbarian-rpg-books/That's right, our favorite…at least for now…roleplaying game Conan the Hyborian age has new sourcebooks coming to Kickstarter. The campaign hasn't launched yet, but it looks like we will get source books for Tortage which is a haven for pirates, thieves and smugglers in the Baracha Isles and Zamora the ancient land of dark sorcery and the home to the City of Thieves. Both of these settings I managed to avoid in our first campaign of Conan so as soon as I get my hands on these source books, we will visit Heliope, Drebu and the rest of our Hyborian friends again.Christina, what do you think about Monolith putting out sourcebooks for Conan?[Kick to Christina]Mike, this has always been your issue with new games, not enough lore. Does this new sourcebook get you pumped for more Conan?[Kick to Mike]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

Send us Fan MailIt started with a simple text to the Thursday Night Gaming Group.“Hey, Free League's Twilight 2000 has a life path character creation system. Anybody interested in playing it?”And I have to say, of all the texts and emails I have sent to the group over the years that one got a lot of attention and the answer was an overwhelming yes.I had played the original Twilight 2000 as a teenager and I liked it. Our group had basically tried to recreate the movie “Red Dawn” with it and it had been fun, but we didn't dive heavily into the post-apocalyptic version of the game. We stayed mostly to the cinematic and war genre so as teen's it was perfect.Put this time I wanted to dive into some of those basic questions I find myself playing around with in roleplaying. “What does it mean to be human?” “What does it mean to be a hero?”“What does sacrifice look like?”So, I grab some ideas and we created characters and in January of 2026 we started playing.Fast Forward 5 months and I think we have played it enough to get a good feel for the game, the mechanics, and the setting. So, on this episode we are going to do a review of Twilight 2000 4th Edition by Free League.Let's start with general overall feelings about the game?Christina what are your overall thoughts?

There are moments in the writings of St. Isaac the Syrian where one realizes that what he is speaking about is not “religion” as we commonly understand it at all. He is not concerned with external religiosity, spiritual image, theological sophistication, emotional experiences, or moral performance. He speaks instead about the transformation of the human being into a living place of divine communion. The entire struggle of the ascetic life is directed toward one thing: purity of heart. Not moralism. Not perfectionism. Purity. And purity for Isaac is not primarily about behavior. It is about vision. “The pure in heart shall see God.” The Fathers understood this literally. The heart darkened by distraction, anger, judgment, vanity, endless speech, lust, resentment, self-construction, and immersion in the noise of the world loses the capacity to perceive reality as it truly is. Man ceases to remember God because he has become filled with himself. The tragedy is not simply that we sin. The tragedy is that the heart becomes opaque. Heavy. Fragmented. Unable to behold the Kingdom already present within it. Isaac speaks with terrifying clarity here: “He who restrains his mouth from speech guards his heart from the passions.” Modern man speaks endlessly because he cannot bear silence. We drown ourselves in commentary, analysis, outrage, explanations, arguments, entertainment, notifications, and noise because silence threatens the ego. Silence exposes the inward chaos we spend our lives trying to conceal. But Isaac tells us something almost unbearable: the mysteries of God become visible only in stillness. A wrathful heart cannot behold the mysteries of the Kingdom because wrath keeps the self at the center of reality. A judgmental man may speak about theology endlessly and yet remain entirely estranged from the life of God. A proud man may appear religious and still dwell inwardly in darkness. Why? Because the Kingdom is not perceived through brilliance but through purity. This is why Isaac places such immense emphasis upon guarding the tongue, fleeing gossip, withdrawing from quarrels, avoiding angry speech, and refusing distraction. He is not prescribing pious behavior merely for the sake of morality. He understands something we do not: every movement of the soul either clarifies the heart or darkens it. And so Isaac speaks of continuous remembrance of God. Not occasional remembrance. Not Sunday remembrance. Not remembrance during emotional prayer alone. Continuous remembrance. The modern mind hears this and immediately turns it into technique. But Isaac is not describing a method so much as an identity. Man was created to live in continual orientation toward God. Prayer is not an activity added onto life. Prayer is life restored to its natural condition. This is why Isaac says: “That which befalls a fish out of water, befalls the mind that has come out of the remembrance of God.” What a terrifying image. We imagine ourselves spiritually neutral when we live immersed in distraction, noise, anxiety, worldly conversation, vanity, and continual mental agitation. Isaac says otherwise. The soul outside remembrance gasps for life without understanding why it is suffocating. And this is precisely the condition of modern man. We are overstimulated yet inwardly deadened. Connected constantly yet unable to descend into the heart. Religious perhaps, but incapable of stillness. Surrounded by information while starving for theoria. Isaac uses that extraordinary image of the dolphin moving through the calm sea. When the sea of the heart becomes still from wrath and agitation, divine mysteries begin moving within the soul. The Kingdom is not absent. The heart is simply too turbulent to perceive it. This is why the Fathers fled distraction so fiercely. Not because they hated the world. But because they desired reality. And reality, Isaac tells us, is infinitely more luminous than the fantasies by which we continually feed ourselves. The terrifying thing is that modern people often imagine remembrance of God to be restrictive. In truth, distraction is the prison. Remembrance is freedom. The man who remembers God continually gradually becomes transparent to divine life. His thoughts change. His speech changes. His desires change. His vision changes. Mercy begins appearing naturally. Humility deepens. Judgment weakens. The passions lose their violence because the soul has found greater beauty. Isaac's vision is nothing less than transfiguration. The purified heart becomes Heaven itself. Not symbolically. Actually. “Lo, Heaven is within you.” The human person becomes a living icon of the Kingdom. The mysteries cease being abstractions and become life. The soul begins beholding Christ “at every moment.” Not through imagination, but through participation. Through communion. Through the gradual purification of the inner man. This is why the saints seem luminous to us. Not because they became extraordinary personalities, but because they ceased obstructing the Radiance of God within them. And Isaac insists that this path is deeply practical. Guard the tongue. Flee distraction. Withdraw from useless speech. Avoid judgment. Remain in remembrance. Practice silence. Study God continually. Refuse the fragmentation of the passions. Seek meekness. Seek humility. Seek hiddenness. Not as legalism. But because every movement either opens the heart toward the Kingdom or closes it inwardly upon itself. The modern world trains us in continual forgetfulness. The ascetic life trains us in remembrance. And remembrance gradually becomes vision. Then prayer ceases being something we “do” and becomes the atmosphere in which the soul breathes. At the center of Isaac's vision lies something fierce and beautiful: man was created not merely to think about God, but to behold Him within the heart and become radiant with His life in the world. This is the true meaning of purity. Not moral self-consciousness. But transparency to divine life. Not religious performance. But the gradual emergence of Heaven within the human heart. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:18:52 Una: Father, do you know much about Saint Nikiphorus the Leper? 00:19:03 Una: Perhaps a saint for the disabled 00:19:10 Una: My mike isn't working 00:20:33 Bob Čihák, AZ: Remember, in these texts, “men” means all humans, “men and women.” 00:23:23 Una: Reacted to "Remember, in these..." with
The story of Genesis opens with God and a dark, formless void. Yet the apostolic witness declares, “God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” The eternal Son, through whom all things were made, is the uncreated Radiance with no shadow of turning. So how do we hold these two realities in the same heart without breaking? In this podcast we'll explore this tension and reveal the mystery that makes it all beautiful.
