Welcome to Dinner and a Game! This is our actual play podcast covering multiple types of tabletop rpg’s from the mainstream games like Dungeons and Dragons to independent titles like Monster of the week! For those of you who knew us from our previous incarnation we have had a lot of changes. These included a change in cities which also meant a change in cast. We want to thank everyone who has been so patient during the literal Months it took us to rebuild and restructure but now we are back, AND we now have a twich stream as well as a podcast. Our first show with our new cast was recorded before we had cameras set up so it will be audio only for a few episodes. The cast of characters for this show is as unique as ever for a Monster of the Week campaign and the name of the campaign is The Devil’s Due. Allow me to introduce our new cast starring Skip Kempert as Alucard the spell slinger Brittany Vanderzyden as Cora the divine, Jessica Howard-Smith as Alexa the chosen, Rachel Miller as Lilith the spooky and finally Michael Jernigan as Agis the monstrous. Hello family and welcome back to another edition of Dinner and a Game! We are ready to launch our latest adventures with our new gaming group! We have completed our move to the Houston area and have had some time to get few shows recorded so we have a buffer allowing us some time to get shows out to you guys. I know it took us long time to get to this point, but we are finally ready and the fact we have actually filmed our first test VIDEO means things are about to change even more! But first a few things that need to be brought up. We had some technical issues that lead to some problems on the audio. The dreaded “trial” has raised its ugly head and it does show up in this episode and I apologize. As has been said before the software in question has been rooted out with a stick and is gone but it did affect several episodes of a couple of shows so we will always let you know when it is present. Second is a warning the Forgotten Realms game we are running does have spoilers for Dragon Heist! We did it our way so it does not follow the book exactly, but it is close enough so that it will spoil things for those of you who have not played it so this is your warning, spoilers ahead! Now for the show. This is the first episode of our new Forgotten Realms campaign and ur merry band of individualist have established themselves in Waterdeep as the proud owners of the newly re-monikered Lief’s place! What was the Trollskull Manor is now named for after it’s deceased proprietor and Waterdeeps only bartending ghost, Lief! The players however have gained some real enemies namely the ruler of Skullport himself Xanathar. We have James William playing Axeman, Rachel Miller playing Faredah, Brittany Vanderzyden playing Lena , Skip Kempert playing Wes, Michael Jernigan as Gabriel and Jessica Howard-Smith as Niblet. I am, as always, your humble host and game master, my name is Ray Smith. Our them song is Heavy interlude by Kevin MacLoud who’s music can be found at incomtech.com and license via creative commons, the details of which can be found in the show notes. Now as always, that’s enough of this, that’s enough of me, lets get to the game.Thank you so much for joining us again for Dinner and a Game. So here we are starting new and starting fresh! Thank you all for having stuck with us thru our trials and tribulations but now we are ready! We are coming back with first of our show which is our new old talk show Dinner and A Game! A talk show focusing on Gaming and geek culture! Now we could not launch a new show without some old problems with audio issues and oddly enough the dreaded “trial” popped it’s head up again even though I know I removed the culprit software from my machine but apparently, I did not do a regedit and pry it out with a crow bar so …yeah. So yes there is some issues with our new audio and it is affecting a few episodes which will have warnings on them. This is the first step out with this new cast and the first step out into a new era for Dinner and a Game and we wanted to make it count so this was a massive misstep and I apologize however I am proud of everyone involved with this endeavor and I am going to try and do better myself to make sure I live up to the standards the cast and you, the listeners deserve. Now as always that is enough of this, that’s enough of me, let’s get to the show!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/rss/dinnerandagame?auth=M5uADE3AR5maXiPGVgyMFiKLszPIwHLR)
Welcome back. We have a lot of explaining to do. As with most folks who do podcasts this is a just a way for us to try and support our hobby community and give back in some small way, however it is still our hobby and real life always comes first. In fact that is our first rule for our gaming group and Life has moved my family to the Houston, TX area due to an amazing opportunity and so we have had to start over! We are starting up production with a new cast and are working on producing some great new shows. We are going to still produce the Monster of the Week: River City apocalypse game episodes we had recorded but to ease the editing process we are going to do whole episodes for each recording session. We are still trying to get the last game scheduled because the move was very sudden, and I was traveling a lot so it has not been an easy road. We literally only need one episode to reach the climax and we will do our best to give you guys the closure you deserve! In the meantime our new cast is coming together nicely and we are going to be publishing new content starting the First week of August! We have four games currently in production including a D&D 5E game set in Faerun, a Monster of the Week game set in our version of Houston and a Dresden Files Fate System game set in a fictional city we are creating just for it. We are also starting a D&D 5E Taldorei game to honor Critical role, our personal inspiration for starting this podcast! The new website is under construction and we are planning on setting up Patreon and merchandise as well! Finally, we have set up a studio in our house and we are going to be entering the Twitch world too! Things are moving ahead but for our Monster hunters things have gotten rough. It is never an easy life, but this has gotten crazy! We have Michael Smith playing Bryan Randal Jessica Smith playing Mercedes Randal, Spencer Taylor playing Damien Clutch, Nick Kuxhaus as Agent Tod Alexander, Johnathan Boykin as Alexa, Kat Darrow as Larissa and Elise Wood as Aria. I am, as always, your humble host and game master and my name is Ray Smith. You can find our shows on Sticher, Itunes and where ever you get your podcasting media from. Welcome back to Dinner and a Game. First, I want to give our audience a couple of apologies. First and foremost, for the extended absence. I am sorry and I bear full responsibility. Most of you all don’t know this but we live in Texas and my family and I had been living in Houston for 7 years when Harvey hit. We were forced to relocate, and we moved back to our home town San Antonio because we have family there to take us in and help get us back on our feet. I think as part of my own healing process I started the podcast to just give me something to do that I found joy and my wife is insanely supportive. I found a good job, we have a wonderful place to live and things looked bright we were even thinking of starting our own game store but then the inevitable happened, change. My employer got bought out and I got laid off. We were in a good place but I still had to find a new job and I work in a very niche industry and the only job I could find was back in Houston (which is why we originally moved there it is a center for my industry). I told the group and we did our best to plan ahead to continue to record. I traveled home every weekend as we waited for school to end and a chance for us all to move and be together as a family. AS a group we tried to schedule games to record but real life just never cooperated. So as a warning the campaigns were never completed. I am going to continue to publish the rest of the older shows but I will probably be doing it as whole show blocks instead of the smaller vinettes. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the electric circus! Or as it is should be known as, the Dinner and a Game 5E epic one shot! Thank you all so much for tuning in to what is an experiment and may become a regular feature. We had a weekend come up where several folks had to cancel at the last minuet and we had to cancel our planned recording session. It happens to all of us and we have a rule, real life comes first but that left us with a variety of folks still wanting to play and no game that we could run without other players so instead we decided to create a one off game. I gave them only two rules. Make a level 20 and equip it with what ever you think would be appropriate minus any game breakers like the deck of many things or the wand of Orcus and no artifacts. What followed was a bunch of players madly giggling over chat about the over powered characters they were going to be inflicting on me and the other folks wishing they had not canceled so they could join in the mayhem. (hence why we may do it again soon) So what came out of all this you say? Well take a listen and see. So for this session our players were Victor Dominguez, Jessica Smith, Michael Smith and Johnathan Boykin and I am, as always you humble GM and host my name is Ray Smith Our incredible theme is called Zap Beat by Kevin MacLeod which can be found at incompetech.com and is Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License which can be found in the show notes below. Welcome back to Dinner and a Game as we continue our newest campaign X-Crawl River City Rampage! We are playing Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition however we are playing in a campaign world that has been out of print for several years but is still dearly loved, this setting was called X-Crawl! It is actually set in a modern-day alternate Earth where fantasy monsters are real, and magic exists. As a further complication the Roman empire never fell and currently rules most of Europe as well as what would have been the U.S. and Mexico and you are left with an extremely intriguing setting. In this world slavery is still a thing and the world is still reeling from an extended war between the surface dwellers and the under dark that was so devastating even centuries later the effects are still apparent. In order to distract the masses from their daily struggle a new form of gladiatorial games have been developed but instead of slaves being forced to fight there are now professional adventurers who go into artificially built dungeons created by a mysterious figured know as the Dungeon Judge. There they compete against other teams for top score in order to win money and prizes as well as winning everlasting glory! What was supposed to be a half-speed walk through the remnants of last year’s dungeon has turned into something much more as DJ Silver Spur has decided to deliver a message to our hero’s! Will our team have an answer for him? Tune in and see! Now for this campaign my brother Michael Smith is taking the helm and I am just a player like everyone else and speaking of players: for this game our players are Spencer Taylor playing Glen Mastis the Human Paladin, Jessica Smith playing Antha Pwent Dwarven Cleric, Victor Gonzales playing Big Tex the Dwarven Blood Hunter, Johnathan Boykin playing Occulous the Human Rogue , and I am Ray Smith I will be playing Ewan Wode, the Human Wizard. Our theme is once again provided by the amazing Kevin MacLeod and is called Big Rock. You can find his music at www.incomtech.com and it is licensed under Creative Commons By Attribution 3.0 License.
