Recently I acquired my mentor's company, and we're working over the next 12 months turning it around. If you want to know what we're doing and why, listen to this episode. Hit me up on IG! @russellbrunson Text Me! 208-231-3797 Join my newsletter at marketingsecrets.com ClubHouseWithRussell.com ---Transcript--- Hey, what's up everybody? This is Russell Brunson. Welcome back to the Marketing Secrets podcast. I hope you guys have an amazing day. I had a really fun, interesting week working with Dan Kennedy's company, Magnetic Marketing, and a whole bunch of other cool things. Some of you guys may or may not have heard, but we acquired his company recently. And with that, we got 40 years of intellectual property. And so this episode, we'll talk about what we're doing with it all, what it's going to look like, why I'm so excited, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff. All right. So number one, how cool is this? I keep pinching myself. When I first got in this game, my first mentors, my first internet mentor really was Mark Joyner, which helped get me to a certain level. And then I started looking for more stuff and that's when I bumped into Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer, and I started going to their mastermind groups and their events. And man, it really was like the next evolution for me is just really understanding these core principles and things that have been working since the beginning. I always kind of tease these guys are teaching how to use fax machines and the Pony Express to deliver marketing messages, because a lot of it was like direct mail bootcamps and stuff like that, all kind of older school stuff. And at first it didn't make sense to me how this stuff worked until really I started realizing through Dan that these things that we all think we are, like we think we're internet marketers, he's like, "No, no, no." He's like, "The internet is a channel. It's a media channel." And a lot of us, we think Facebook, Instagram, YouTube is media channels, but for Dan's rule, it's like the internet's one channel. There's direct mail, there's TV, there's radio, and internet is a channel. And nowadays obviously it is I think the best and the coolest channel, but the principles and the philosophies and the psychology and the persuasion and all the things that are working today on the internet are things that were pioneered and developed through direct mail, through TV, through radio. And so, so much of Dan's stuff, he's had a chance to work with everybody for the last 40 years. I say 40, not four, the last 40 years has been just kind of all around these things. And it's just like ... Anyway, so I digress. Again, when I was getting into this, I started learning those things and all the sudden I was like, oh my gosh, the things I'm learning that they did in their fax marketing or their direct mail, I can use on the internet, I can use on the Facebook ads, I can use, and for me really, it was what changed my business. And honestly, for most of you guys, your businesses, as well. A lot of you guys probably don't even know that the core foundations that ClickFunnels were built on were the principles that I learned from Dan Kennedy and that we just turned it into software and turned it something that everybody could do. So that's why it's so exciting. And we recently acquired the company, which is a huge honor for me because I have this unique opportunity and chance now to take my mentor's stuff and to continue it on and bring it into the future. And I'm excited. So this week, on Monday, Tuesday, this week, we had the existing Magnetic Marketing team, the people that are still there, the company flew out here to Boise, and we spent two days kind of figuring out what's the plans, what's the future? How do we get this thing back to the point where there's 10,000 active members on membership and there's all these things that are happening? And so as they showed up, we also had a chance to look at like, okay, what did we actually acquire here? What's all the intellectual property? And it's insane. There's 40 years of stuff. And some is not relevant, and so we're sifting through those, but most of it is some of the best stuff ever. And it's cool, because as we were building out funnels and looking at these courses that they've been selling for $2,500 or $3,000 or $5,000, and it's just like, they're not selling a lot of them. I'm like, ugh, it's because they just need to be packaged differently. But I also think that the pricing is different nowadays than it was 15, 20 years ago, even. And so what's going to be cool is we're taking, you know, Dan's written, I don't know, 20, 30 books, we're taking each book and we're figuring out what courses sync with it, what content fits in this process. And we're building out new funnels, like book funnels that take people through all the products and the courses and the events that Dan did related to each book. Every book he wrote, he wrote a book and then they'd do an event teaching it and then they would do workshops and they'd do all these things. And so every book has got like an archive of stuff that nobody's ever seen before, which is insane. And I'm going through the archives. I'm like, oh my gosh, I thought I owned everything Dan ever had, and I had never seen this, never seen this, never heard of this. And so it's just so exciting. We're having a chance to come pull things out and plug them in and all these things. But as excited and as nerdy as I am in this process, the thing I wanted to share with you guys is that the things that you are learning, the principles you are learning, the things that you've been, especially going deep with me and you've been reading DotCom Secrets, Expert Secrets, Traffic Secrets, literally all we're doing is using that playbook. I'm coming in to this company where I learned a lot of these principles with, but the company's been sold twice since Dan and Bill ran it. So they've fallen away from a lot of the core principles that made them great initially. And so what we're doing literally is like, hey, what's the value ladder? Okay, what is the front end offer? Okay, here's the funnel, what do we need? What's the free plus shipping? What's the order form bump? What's upsell one, upsell two? What's downsell? You know, like walking through and then, okay after someone buys this, where's the next step we take them? What's the next tier on the value ladder? How do we move them up one tier? And then okay, from there, what content do we need, what pieces, and we're kind of just literally just taking the same blueprint that you guys have been learning forever. I laid the blueprint out for you guys, like this is the blueprint. It doesn't deviate. It doesn't change. It's the same for every business. I don't care if you're selling info, products, or coaching, or physical products, or dental, you know, cleaning people's teeth, or if you are doing chiropractic adjustments. It doesn't matter. It's all the same. The framework's the same. It's like a house. The framework's the same. You have a bathroom. You have a kitchen. It doesn't matter if you're making a $30,000 house or a $30 million house, the framework's the same. And so we're just bringing up the same frameworks you guys have been learning and studying and then taking all of the pieces, the content, the copy, the assets and everything, and just plugging it into that framework. So I wanted to share that with all you guys, because I know that, and I'm probably one of the causes of this because I get so excited and I want to launch a thousand funnels because I know the profits, I know how they work. I can just do it over and over again. And so we roll out a lot of things. But if you actually look at this strategy, me coming into this new company and having 40 years of intellectual property and a million courses and products and all this stuff, the strategy is the same. It's the same thing. And so if I was you guys and you're still not sure what to do, start there, start with the DotCom Secrets book, read the book and say, okay, what's the value ladder? What's funnel number one? What's offers inside of funnel number one? And coming back to the basics. I get people, it's crazy, on Instagram, I don't know if you guys ever click over to the other tab, which is messages that don't go in the inbox. I look at that probably once a week or so, just to see if I'm missing any conversations with people who I need to be having conversations with. And I look over there just to make sure I'm not missing anything. And as crazy as it is, I will tell you that each week there are probably anywhere from 20 to 50 people that message like, "Oh your stuff's so good. Where do I start?" Or, "I love your stuff. I can't figure how to get started. What should I do?" Like oh my gosh, you guys, this is simple. Read book number one. That's why I wrote the first book, so you'd have the foundation. Go read DotCom Secrets. The same thing that we're doing now, after we acquired this huge company, it's like okay, apply principles. It reminds me of Vince Lombardi. They said the first year of every football season, he'd walk out to his team. We're the best in the world, you know? And he'd hold the football and be like, "Gentlemen, this is a football." And he's just showing them, here's the foundation, here's the beginning. Here's the start of this. And I think that's what sometimes we forget, is we're trying to figure out the secret ninja, Facebook advertising hack, and the this and the that. And it's like, no, no, no, come back to the fundamentals, come back to the foundation. Gentlemen, this is a funnel. Right? Okay. Which funnel is it? Value ladder, boom, boom, boom, boom. And then you're just plugging the pieces into the model that's been proven to work over and over and over again for decades. And like I said, initially, it's the stuff I learned from Dan and learned from Bill, and such an honor to have a chance to come back. In fact, it's funny, because I was like, I'm going back to the advertising archives. We're pulling all the old sales letters back from when Dan and Bill ran the company. It's like, okay, this is what we need to see, because this is when it was done correctly. You know, everything in the last decade, since some of the other people who bought the company, they messed up the model. They didn't understand the model. They bought it, not understanding it. And they jacked the whole thing up. We're coming back, thinking back to the foundations, back to the fundamentals. What worked before? How does this work? Plug in the system. And so I'm excited. You guys will see the first iteration of what we're doing. We'll be launching probably the first week in January or maybe the last week in December. Not quite positive, but around there. And then over the next 12 months, you'll see the process. You'll see it happening in real time. You'll see, oh, there's the front end of the value. Oh, he's moving us up a step. Oh, from there we're moving to the high ticket. Oh, from there there's a continuity. You'll be able to see it rolled out in real time over the next 12 months, which will be really, really fun. So I'm pumped. I'm excited. Hope you guys, are as well, to see behind the scenes of the process. But that's what we did this week. So if you guys, if you are at the beginning of your business, I would stop what you're doing. Go reread DotCom Secrets, and then do what we just did. Do two day planning meetings. Okay, what's our value ladder? What's the funnel? What are the offers inside the funnels? What's the first funnel we're going to launch? And then just focus on that. Because we built out a whole value ladder. This is the thing that a lot of people make mistakes. They build a value ladder and they're like, okay, I've got to build all these things. And then they spend the next six years building all the things. No. You build a value ladder so you know where you're going. But then you just build the first thing. Like for us, it's okay, now we know where we're going between now and the next three months. The only thing that matters is this funnel, that's it. Nothing else matters. And blinders on. Let's go. And that's what we're focusing on for the next, well, it shouldn't take three months because we're ClickFunnels. Come on now. But the next 30 days, the next 60 days, is picking the one and focusing on it and not trying to build out the coaching program, the high ticket, and all these things in between, it's like, no, just focus on the one. The value ladder is there so we know where we're going, but we begin from our funnel and launch it and then we start the process from there. So anyway, I hope that helps. Again, if you're just beginning, go read the DotCom Secrets book, take two days with your business partner, your family, your friends, whoever you're working with, and map that out. If you've got a business that you just acquired and you're trying to figure it out, do that. If you are struggling in business and you're like, it's all chaos and nothing's working, and you're frustrated, take two days and do this. It's key. So hope that helps you guys. Anyway, we're getting close to Halloween. I've got my Inner Circle. Some of you guys know we relaunched Inner Circle at Funnel Hacking Live. We actually relaunched three different tiers. First is the Inner Circle for life, which is $50,000 a year. And we have, I think like 70 or 80 people signed up for that, which is crazy, but I'm excited to be able to bring back the Inner Circle. It's been closed for two years. And then we opened a second tier of Inner Circle called the Category Kings. And we started the pricing there at $150,000 a year. And there's only 14 spots. I was like, oh, it's going to take us a while to fill that up. We sold those 14 spots in two days and we have a waiting list of probably 30 people who are waiting to be able to send me $150,000 for that, which is insane. I didn't think that was going to happen. So note to self, I should have launched two Category King groups. Anyway, not this year, I'm too tired. And then we have a third tier called the Atlas Group, which is going to be, I know we have people on the waiting list. We haven't actually opened that one yet, and it's going to be really fun as well. So anyway, I'm excited because next week, all next week we've got five days of meetings with the first two tiers of Inner Circle and it's going to be a lot of fun. So anyway, I'm sure I'll probably box you, or not box you, probably do podcast episodes somewhere during that window next week and share some of the insights and the ideas and things that are happening there. And if you want to be in the Inner Circle someday, I always tell people this is where you're ascending to, get in my Inner Circle. That's where I have a chance to work really close in very small groups with you guys. So that is a goal. Nowadays you have to be a Two Comma Club winner to qualify for it. So set that as a goal. Get your Two Comma Club and then get in the Inner Circle with us, coming out, because there's a lot of fun stuff happening. All right, thanks everybody. Appreciate you all for listening, and excited to show off what we're going to be doing behind the scenes with Magnetic Marketing, Dan Kennedy's company, over the next 12 months. Thanks everybody, and we'll talk soon.
I am happy to welcome fellow investor Gary Boomershine to the show today! Gary is the Founder of RealEstateInvestor.com which he started in 2005 out of the need to scale and grow his own real estate investing business. His company caters to top producing agents, investors, and smaller hedge funds who are looking for a competitive advantage in their local markets. Gary is also the host of the Real Estate Investor Huddle Podcast and has been featured as a guest on many podcasts including the Best Real Estate Investing Advice Ever Show with Joe Fairless. Gary first shares his background story and how he got into real estate. Before creating Real Estate Investor, the largest marketer in the entire real estate niche with close to 90 million pieces of direct mail and 9 million interactions with sellers, Gary got his computer science engineering degree. However, he comes from a strong real estate background - his parents owned a real estate brokerage and Gary got his license as soon as he turned 18. After college, he started his engineering career and was doing pretty well for himself, but the only downside was that he was working 90 hours per week. This all changed on May 17th of 2004, after a single seminar that ignited his passion for real estate. With a $700,000 mortgage, Gary and his wife decided to cut ties with the corporate world and dive straight into real estate investing. We then move on to discussing the importance of leverage in real estate. Gary explains that a lot of people call themselves real estate investors, but they're really real estate business operators, meaning they are building a business based on real estate. The key is that every business needs a CEO and if you're the CEO and you're doing $10/hour work, you're going to have a $10 bank account. So if you're running a business, you have to understand that it's a finance game and the leverage component is - you're leveraging other people's money, possibly your own, but you're also leveraging other people's time, experiences, and resources. A lot of people get stuck because they try to do everything themselves and it's a trap. You need to understand the value of your time, which is probably between $250 and $1,000 dollars an hour or more. So, if you're doing anything that's $10/hour work, you need to find someone to do it for you, and instead of thinking of it as an expense, think of it as a return on your investment. Next, we talk about when it is a good time to start building your team and what to look for. According to Gary, you need to do it as soon as possible. If you're committed to doing real estate, you first have to figure out if you're going to find properties on the market (typically through a realtor) or you're going to go off-market, which means you're going to go directly to the seller. No matter which way you choose, somebody has to do the work; on average it takes 45 leads to close a deal and 45 leads is a lot of work. All of these tasks require a lot of work so you need to build your team right away. We then discuss the process of finding leads. Gary explains that around 25% of their clients at RealEstateInvestor.com want everything done for them; they just want to meet with the sellers. For a set amount Gary's team generates the leads, screens the leads, does all the phone work and all the qualifying. So, for about $10/hour they can hire a team of people who are experts at pulling the mailing list, at skip-tracing, at finding things that nobody else can find because they know better than anybody else in the country what works and what doesn't. Gary also goes on to explain that their perfect client is somebody who understands that real estate is their vehicle, somebody who already had some level of success, and somebody who is ready to scale up. Lastly, we talk about what marketing strategies are working best right now. Gary shares that real estate is a cycle and right now we're in a euphoric stage of that cycle where a massive number of people are competing for the same types of deals. According to Gary, the central and the south-central part of the country work best at the moment because it's a lot less expensive to generate deals in that area. Gary also explains that only 3% of all deals come off of the first inbound call, 97% of all deals take six to seven interactions with the seller, which means you have to be really good at following up on a text or a call, use the right words at the right time. Gary's team follows up automatically, for a minimum of two years. Make sure you don't miss this incredible episode of the Just Start Real Estate Podcast with the amazing Gary Boomershine and learn all the secrets of leveraging and creating a sustainable business! Notable Quotes: “Most of us get into this business for financial freedom and having a life. Real estate can give us that, it's the vehicle for that if you understand that it's a finance game and a game of leverage. But a lot of people get stuck and reinvent or re-manifest the slavery system. It becomes a job, a terrible job.” Gary Boomershine “You want to understand the why about real estate before the how. The how is easy." Gary Boomershine “There are three buckets in real estate: cash now, cash flow, and cash later. Most people focus on the cash now, which is fixing and flipping. But true real estate investors are people who actually are buying and holding for the long haul.” Gary Boomershine “A lot of people call themselves real estate investors, but they're really real estate business operators. Those are people that are building a business based on real estate.” Gary Boomershine “You can automate almost everything but you can't automate talking to the seller. You have to build a relationship.” Gary Boomershine “You got to pick one direction, get it working, scale it, and then you go on to the next one.” Gary Boomershine Links: Gary on LinkedIn Gary on Facebook Real Estate Investor Real Estate Investor on Facebook Real Estate Investor on Twitter Real Estate Investor on YouTube Real Estate Investor on YouTube Real Estate Investor Huddle Podcast For a free copy of The Freedom Code and a number of other amazing free resources text Just Start to 9253200575 7 Figure Flipping Return on Investments Just Start Real Estate JSRE on Facebook Mike on Facebook Mike on Instagram Mike on LinkedIn Mike on Twitter Level Jumping: How I Grew My Business to Over $1 Million in Profits in 12 Months

Mortality scores are increasingly an issue for many health care organizations across the country. Obviously, the pandemic had a major role in affecting these scores, but the truth is this was an issue before the pandemic and only rose to attention of the public and regulators from it. Despite the obvious reasons organizations need to address their mortality scores as a key quality indicator, these scores also are a major influence in national quality scores and reputation. Organizations can also use good scores as leverage in negotiations with payers. In earlier episodes, we addressed this issue with a data scientist and a documentation specialist. In this wide-ranging interview, Dr. Bhattacharya takes us through how it started, how it spread throughout the world, the efficacy of lockdowns, the development and distribution of the vaccines, and the rise of the Delta variant. He delves into what we got right, what we got wrong, and what we got really wrong. Finally, Dr. Bhattacharya looks to the future and how we will learn to live with COVID rather than trying to extinguish it, and how we might be prepared to deal with another inevitable pandemic that we know will arrive at some point. He is due to face kidnap charges later this year in the UK and has been a central and violent figure in the Drogheda feud - but it seems gang boss Cornelius Price is unlikely to ever face up to his crimes. Price, whose gang are suspected of a number of murders including that of William Maughan and his pregnant girlfriend Anna Varslavane, is currently in critical condition in hospital after being struck down by a terminal illness. Months short of his 40th birthday, Price has left a bloody mark on Ireland's underworld and today I'm talking to Irish Independent journalist Ken Foy about the terrifying past of one of the most-notorious gangland figures in modern criminal history. We discuss the Co Meath compound where Price lived surrounded by his underlings, his role in the escalating violence in Drogheda which culminated in the brutal murder of teenager Keane Mulready Woods and the day he celebrated the death of rival mobster Robbie Lawlor by toasting his demise.

Welcome to this version of the Just Start Real Estate Podcast! I am excited to bring you another replay of my Facebook Live Question and Answer sessions. I just started doing these live forums in April and they are going so well and I am getting such great feedback and questions, I thought I would share them here on the podcast. Especially for those people that are unable to join us live, this will provide an opportunity to hear the awesome questions I am fielding about business, taking risks, real estate, and so much more! Some of the questions have been very real estate specific, but others have been general business questions, like asking about overcoming fear in order to get started and how to successfully scale. I have also received more personal questions like how I decided real estate investing was right for me and the steps I took to get my business off the ground. This presentation is the live Q&A that I did on October 6th and each week on Thursday we will offer you another chance to take advantage of listening to the answers to our guests' fabulous and compelling questions! Don't miss this new episode of the Just Start Real Estate Podcast! I was just given a talk at the International Foot and Ankle Foundation's 40th Annual Hawaii Seminar. And at the end of the session, we got a couple of questions from the audience during the live Q&A for the doctors. A doctor in the audience she had a runner who is one of her patients. This runner had been basically running on a mild stress fracture, which I would really consider a stress reaction, for a period of about two months but wanted to do a race. Today on the Doc on the Run Podcast, we're talking about what a doctor should do when she is helping a runner with a stress fracture who has been running on it for 2 months and still wants to run a race.

Dr. Monica Aggarwal is the perfect example of what can happen when you don't take care of your body … she's also the perfect example of what can happen when you do take care of your body. Living under the constant pressure of defined gender norms in a subspecialty medical profession, Dr. Aggarwal strived to be perfect. After finishing school and experiencing several miscarriages, she had three children in four years and tried to be Super Mom along with her full-time job as a cardiologist. Ultimately, her body broke down and she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Months passed until she took control of her health—not with medicine, but with lifestyle. When she prioritized sleep, plant-based eating, and more gentle forms of exercise, she put her disease in remission. This is part one of our two-part interview with the fabulous and knowledgeable Dr. Aggarwal. We just couldn't cover everything in one short hour. Buckle up and get ready to learn. Is offsetting bone losses in menopause with high impact safe? Is it recommended? Aren't you more prone to fractures? This episode explores the recent research in honor of Menopause Awareness Month (and Osteoporosis Day October 20, 2021). If you're trying to prevent, if you've been diagnosed, or if you've got younger women in your life who need this information NOW to be better prepared than we could have known to be… this is for you. Episode sponsor: Flipping50 Fitness Specialist (learn more here about how to become one and grow a successful business while you do it) Bone Losses in Menopause Average bone loss is 1.5% per year for the spine and 1.1% - 1.4% for the femoral neck in the first 4-5 years post menopause. Losses slow slightly after this and then increase again in latter decades. Just 6 months into the pandemic research began to emerge about the long-term health effects of short-term muscle loss. The possible devasting disability includes sarcopenia and osteoporosis both, as well as increases in risk of obesity. A combined loss of muscle, strength, bone, with or without increased body fat sets up females specifically for avoidable negative health effects. Osteoporosis & Exercise Exercise is recommended but often with poor and non-specific guidelines for having the most benefit. The purpose of this post is to: Present the continuum of activity results on bone mineral density Present other valuable components of exercise Support prioritization of exercise time for readers Consider a variety of exercises (and non-exercise) interventions and their results Integrating safety Optimal exercise interventions are those favoring a mechanical stimulus on bone both through antigravity loading and the stress exerted on muscles. Two types of activity for osteoporosis prevention and post-diagnosis therapeutic effects: Weight-bearing activities Strength/Resistance exercises What is weight-bearing activity? Defined as any activity one performs on one or more feet. Technically, however it would also include activity weight bearing on the upper body as in a downward facing dog. Where bone density is concerned, there are levels of weight-bearing. Standing in tree pose is weight bearing. Using an elliptical is weight bearing. Neither of those however has any striking force involved as when there is a heel strike in walking. The greater the strike the greater the force to bone. What is resistance exercise? Technically, resistance exercise is anything that provides additional overload to the muscle (and bone) beyond activities of daily living. Resistance exercise includes use of machine and free weights, body weight, tubing, bands, even water exercise or swimming is viewed as resistance training. Each activity falls along a continuum of benefits. As you might guess, use of machine or free weights will surpass swimming or water exercise for bone density benefits. Use of weight training also surpasses benefits from bands and tubing. Though use of bands and tubing may be a first step, an only option depending on access to dumbbells, or machine weights, or support lateral movements unachievable from free-weights alone, the application of heavy resistance is most beneficial and more closely mimics activity of daily life. Of the two activities for osteoporosis prevention and therapeutic effects, strength/resistance exercise have the greatest benefit. This is due to the overload and what is referred to as Minimal Effective Stress (MES). Minimum Effective Stress Walking alone does not improve bone mass. It may have a limited contribution to slowing bone losses. The limit to benefits of walking occurs due to an effect called Minimal Effective Stress. For example, if you walk 2 or 3 miles several times a week, neither walking more days a week or walking 4 or 5 miles offers more bone benefit. You're already adapted to the stress of your own body weight. What would potentially change or increase bone benefit would be jogging or adding a weighted vest during the walk. (Note: not handheld weights). Similarly, with jogging, once you can jog or run, you don't get greater benefits by running longer or more frequently. In fact, long distance runners who find low body fat, low body weight, may be at greater risk for low bone density. Older runners who do no resistance training with heavy weight are prone to fractures as much (or more if lower body weight) as general population. It's Not All Bone Strength There is also more than the strength of the bone and of the muscle in consideration of activity. As aforementioned, the balance or stability-enhancing benefit of an activity also plays a part in reducing risk of falls. Where heavy resistance exercise is not possible, lighter weight and balance activities alone will still be beneficial, though not to bone, to improved stability and balance. It's important that balance is specific to balance practice. Agility, balance and coordination don't come from strength alone, but must be practiced. For anyone seeking bone density and muscle strength, exercise selection should match those goals. For anyone limited by conditions, injuries, or access, a greater emphasis should be placed on balance and stability, each of which require less equipment. In either case, balance and agility/reaction skills are specific and need to be trained. They aren't just added benefits from strength training. The Research Women in menopause transition are susceptible to muscle and bone losses that lead to sarcopenia and osteoporosis, respectively. That makes them more prone to falls, fractures, and then increasing bedrest and instability leading to frailty and early death. How Much Muscle is Typically Lost? Traditionally, loss of muscle can be about 8% per decade beginning at age 30. There's an annual decline in total body LM during 4 to 5 years of the menopausal transition accelerates. The rapid acceleration of losses over a short period of time sets of alarms. If this isn't countered with sufficient resistance training during that time, or mitigated soon after, it leads to a cascade of events including bone losses. The accelerated losses do slow again after the surge in early post menopause. Yet, in another decade or more they again accelerate to nearly 1% annual decline in leg LM among women between the ages of 70 and 79. Start at the Beginning The early research for exercise in osteoporosis prevention and treatment was conservative. The list of contraindications for those diagnosed with osteoporosis was long or at least limiting. Recent studies however, explore the intensity of exercise that does more than slows bone losses in favor of that which -even after menopause- where once thought game over, bone density can be improved. Conservative Start Early research scared many women who may have been avid exercise enthusiasts with a passion for downhill skiing or golf, into thinking they couldn't potentially participate any longer. It suggested they suddenly come with a “fragile” label and are resigned to light and safe exercise. One particular study in the Clinical Interventions in Aging journal I've spoke of before but bears mentioning as I kick off this section of a review of studies suggests otherwise. Post- diagnosis, there are considerations, and you have unique needs. You can however, and possibly should, find high intensity exercise that will start and wisely progress that includes both high impact weight bearing exercise and high intensity weight training. That is, includes jumping, as well as heavy weight training. A study intended to be 18 months long was cut short by Covid at 13 months when supervision was no longer possible in March 2020, revealed even without getting to the most intense phase of the program, bone density was improved. In addition, compliance was high, injuries were non-existent. 12-month high impact programs Significantly better results were found in women who did high impact exercise and medication and dietary changes than medication and dietary changes alone. High impact- jumping, hopping, explosive movements was safe and effective 24-week aerobic dance programs Another study in Medicine published in 2019 showed 3 times per week high impact exercise with women not taking HRT, improved bone density. Site-Specific Benefits High intensity exercise is a more effective stimulus for lumbar spine BMD than low or moderate intensity, but not femoral neck BMD, however, the latter finding may be due to lack of power in the exercises performed. Additional Proof for High Intensity High Impact for Bone Losses in Menopause A 2020 study published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity looked at women 65 and older. For them too higher doses of activity and particularly those involving resistance training are significantly more effective. Let's talk about dose where exercise for bone density is concerned. It's important to know increasing frequency beyond 2-3 times a week is not the best way to increase volume. The better application of volume is increased amount of resistance, and increased sets. This will result in a decreased number of repetitions. While muscle can benefit from greater repetitions (performed with smaller weights), bone cannot. If you are able to lift heavy (defined as reaching fatigue in 10 or fewer repetitions) you will have the most bone benefits. Recent Research is Most Specific While you may choose to believe that yoga, that pilates, that walking improves bone density, you'll want to keep this in mind. In a review of literature including 75 articles, published from 1989 to 2019, results were too variable to conclude exercise effects on osteoporosis. This is proof that some protocols DO and some DO NOT benefit bone density. This makes the statement, “something is better than nothing” questionable if you have a specific goal. You can't do your boyfriend's, your daughters, or your best friend's exercise program and expect the specific results you want without checking the match for your priorities. What we need is an exercisematch.com so you can sort through the prolific options and be sure that if your goal is bone density, or weight loss, or reducing arthritic pain, you are doing the right exercise to match this goal and any limitations. Flipping50's mission is to make this a little easier for you. Other Health Benefits High intensity aerobic activity in a small co-hort of post menopausal women increased HDL, decreased body fat, and improved VO2 (cardiovascular fitness) but did nothing to lean muscle mass. Now, at first glance this is good. At second you might not think entirely. Even with a loss of body fat, because of the decrease in overall weight, metabolism will be lower. Without adjustments in dietary intake ultimately weight regain is likely. A 2018 study in the Journal of Bone Mineral Research employed a protocol of high intensity loads (5 reps to fatigue x 5) for 4 different exercises, including high impact drop jumps. This study too had a high compliance level, one/100 adverse effects (low back spasm), and positive bone density improvements. Yoga Poses for Bone Density Some holes in the yoga study make it difficult to discern if the yoga was exclusively responsible for bone density improvement. There wasn't enough control in the activity and habits of the participants. Monthly gain in BMD was significant in spine (0.0029 g/cm2, P = .005) and femur (0.00022 g/cm2, P = .053). At 22, 22, and 24 months, respectively, 72, 81, and 83 of these subjects reported mean gains of 0.048, 0.088, and 0.0003 g/cm2 per month which is the equivalent 1.152 (22 mos) and .0072 (24 mos). Compare to 24 weeks strength training that include 3.1 ± 4.6%. There's a significant difference both in results. Yoga and Pilates for Bone Density A 2021 study published in PLoS One showed only non-significant results on BMD. Benefits do occur for balance and stability. As a means of risk reduction from fall-related fractures there is value in these activities. What we each need to do is determine what is our realistic time spend and co-create a program based on the most influential exercises for each of our unique goals. It is possible to create a program that is inclusive of the high intensity strength training, the high impact (where a wise choice) activity, and the balance and stability building movements. This doesn't have to mean many and separate sessions weekly. Minutes of balance and stability work regularly can be included in warm ups and cool downs. Whole Body Vibration for Bone Density Best indicated for the frail unable to perform other resistance exercises. For greatest effectiveness must contain a component of strength training. There is a degree of improvement in balance and stability from WBV. However, the biggest benefit is from resistance training combined with WBV, not in performing WBV alone. The additional benefit if the platform is available is worth it. The investment in the equipment for home, may not be the best or wisest use of time. There you have it. Whenever we hit a big milestone in business it can make us nostalgic for the earlier days of our career when we were just starting out. It can make us reflect on the type of advice we would give a younger version of ourselves, even if it's just little nudges about how to shift your mindset or attention. This summer Emylee celebrated the 10th anniversary of owning her own LLC! This type of milestone has made Emylee look back at her younger self and consider the type of advice she would give to a young, baby Emylee, especially when it comes to mindset shifts. Another major milestone this year is the sixth birthday of Boss Project being in business! All of this has caused us to reflect on the major mindset shifts that we have experienced in business and how they have helped us. The cool thing about mindset shifts is that it's not just for folks who are starting out. It can have a drastic impact on anyone at any stage of business. We often think that these changes matter more if you're just starting out, but we've seen it make a huge difference to a range of folks who were feeling stuck in their business at one point or another. Whether they had the clients but were utterly short on time, and couldn't imagine how they would manage to double their income, or they were making good money, but were also so miserable that they were on the brink of giving it all up. That is why today, we're taking a look at the top mindset shifts that are necessary for you to double your income in the next 12 months. Because we believe explosive growth is possible for anyone willing to adapt and institute these changes. And so often it starts with a mindset shift that centers on self-belief because you have to believe in yourself first before you're willing to convince anyone else of what you're doing.
