This week's episode of Win The Hour, Win The Day Podcast interviews, Criz Tumapon. She got thirty minutes notice. Thirty minutes before a Zoom room with about thirty people in it, I asked her to host a session she had never run in her life. Our Marketing Manager, Maura, had to go. Her sister went in for a basic surgery, there was an infection and a complication, and inside a couple of days it was life or death. She needed to be at that hospital day and night. We didn't know if she'd be gone three days, three weeks or three months. So we met as a team and split her Super Toolkits up. Criz got the Leadership Program, which is the biggest piece of it. Criz isn't the speaker on our team. She's the one in the background making everything run, and she was nervous. I told her I could take the session myself, and then I told her I thought that was the wrong call, because everybody in that room already saw her as the person beside Maura, and stepping in front of her would have shrunk her. She opened Maura's toolkit. What to do when you come into the Zoom. Ask the VAs how they're doing. Five minutes in breakout rooms. Housekeeping. The topic was already drafted, because drafting it in advance sits in Maura's job bio. I watched the replay and we all teased her, she looked like a game show host. She was that good because she wasn't spending anything on remembering what came next. All of it went into being the host. Maura was gone three weeks. Her sister turned it around and she's fine. Not one client noticed a thing. And Criz came out of it with the line I keep repeating. Your systems get tested during an emergency, not during convenience.   Win The Hour, Win The Day! www.winthehourwintheday.com Podcast: Win The Hour, Win The Day Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/win-the-hour-win-the-day/id1484859150 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/winthehourwintheday/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/win-the-hour-win-the-day-podcast   Win The Hour Win The Dayhttps://winthehourwintheday.com

What if becoming a better spearo had less to do with diving deeper or buying better gear—and more to do with learning how to actually see what's happening around you? In this episode, Shrek sits down with commercial fisherman, spearo, hunter and lifelong observer of the natural world Johnny Mitchell, with Johnny's longtime mate Tim McDonald joining the conversation. Johnny has spent decades living, fishing, hunting and observing in the bush and on the water. From commercially chasing Spanish mackerel and mud crabs to living out of a swag, caretaking Cape Capricorn lighthouse and spending countless hours simply watching animals behave, he has developed an extraordinary ability to recognise patterns in the natural world. The conversation explores awareness, natural intelligence, tides, weather, animal behaviour, sensory awareness and pattern recognition—and why asking simplistic questions like "Is the full moon better?" or "Does falling barometric pressure make fish bite?" can actually hold back your learning. Johnny explains why every productive fishing or spearfishing location has its own combination of features and conditions, and why the better question is often: Why were the fish here today—and why weren't they here yesterday? Tim also shares how Johnny's influence has completely changed the way he approaches spearfishing: shooting fewer fish, observing more, recognising short feeding windows and learning to know where to be, when to be there and why. This one goes well beyond spearfishing. It's a conversation about reconnecting with the natural world, waking up dulled senses and becoming less dependent on apps, assumptions and handed-down rules. Crack open those D rations to snack on as Emma and Theo break into new territories for the pod—nonfiction and multi-stage adaptations. They break down Louis Zamperini's life story three ways: through Laura Hillenbrand's 2010 novel Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, the 2014 Angelina Jolie-directed Oscar-bait film Unbroken, and the 2018 Pureflix-produced sequel Unbroken: Path to Redemption. There's a lot to unpack in this one folks, and the audio may be a little wonky since Emma edited it while on an airplane.  Content warnings for Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand include: WW2-typical violence, graphic descriptions of starvation, graphic descriptions of POW camps, descriptions of PTSD, abuse, death, injuries, fascism, alcoholism, mild spousal abuse, a handshake with Hitler, and 1930's anti-Italian sentiments. Content warnings for Unbroken (2014) include: WW2 movie-typical violence, actors visibly starving themselves, depictions of POW camp violence.  Content warnings for Unbroken: Path to Redemption include: depictions of PTSD flashbacks, alcoholism, mild spousal abuse, and evangelism.

On today's episode we welcome Bob Falconer back to the podcast. Bob is an IFS teacher, consultant, and author who has devoted decades to trauma healing and the study of mind and spirit. He co-authored Many Minds, One Self with Dick Schwartz and wrote The Others Within Us. His memoir, Self Unbroken, is out now. It's hard to pick a favorite "Bob" episode, but this one might be my favorite so far. We talk about his daily practice of dialoguing with Spirit, the sewer path to wisdom, what skeptical parts need, and the monk who changed everything for him Takeaways Self may be less like a particle and more like a field.  The high road to wisdom is lined with people waving shiny objects. Bob suggests trudging through the sewer instead. Skeptical parts don't need to be shut down, they need to be invited in. Not knowing is the beginning of knowledge  When a spirit dialogue starts making you feel superior to others, it's your clue the signal has been hijacked Understanding a past life isn't what heals it. Witnessing and unburdening the emotional charge is what changes things Use your client's language instead of imposing yours Here's a link to The One Inside Audio Guides I mentioned in the intro. About Bob A dedicated therapist and teacher of the IFS model, Robert Falconer has contributed significantly to the field through his research and writings. His work focuses on how our minds are not just multiple, but also porous. He brings this lens to IFS, especially in the context of trauma and spiritual experiences.

The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Garth Heckman Insight C: The Necessity of Falling and Dying (Kokkos) In John 12:24, Jesus states: "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain (kokkos) of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit." The Sermon Point: Burial is not the end; it is the beginning. The Greek Nuance: A kokkos is a singular, isolated kernel. Unbroken, it has a shelf life of years but remains entirely alone. Only by being "buried" in the dark, breaking open, and surrendering its structure can its inner life be released. Application: This is Jesus predicting His death, but it's also a template for discipleship. Our greatest impact doesn't come from protecting our lives, but from our willingness to lay them down. What feels like "burial" in our lives is often God "planting" us for a harvest.   WE HAVE A DREAM - a seed - we don't just let it die… we understand the process. In the real world, we get the seed, we find fertile ground, we dig a hole, we bury it, we water it, we expose it so sun, we keep bugs away, we fertilize it…  but in that process is still death - it has to die! The seed surrenders unto death - it must die. We must die to ourselves. We must be willing to say “ok God I have done everything I can, plant, water, fertilize, weed… but I also trust you to do whatever you want… if it dies, I trust you”.     Deep inside the Arctic Circle, carved into a frozen mountain on a remote Norwegian island, sits the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. It is built to withstand earthquakes, nuclear war, and rising sea levels. Inside, there are over a million seed samples from every corner of the earth. They are kept in airtight, triple-ply foil packets at a constant temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius. Why? To keep them perfectly safe. To keep them from changing. To keep them from dying. It is a masterpiece of human preservation. But here is the paradox of a seed: As long as a seed is kept safe, dry, and preserved, it is completely useless. A seed is not designed for a high-tech vault. It is designed to be thrown into the dirt, rained on, broken open, and utterly destroyed. Its safety is its starvation; its burial is its birth. The Transition: "Many of us live our lives like spiritual seed vaults. We spend all our energy keeping ourselves safe, comfortable, and controlled. We avoid the dirt of sacrifice, the darkness of suffering, and the pain of breaking. But Jesus did not call us to be preserved; He called us to be planted. Today, we are going to look at why God often takes what we love most and buries it—not to destroy it, but to unlock its true potential..." You can't just simply hang on to a seed, a dream, a goal, a vision and just expect God to use it. You have to take a step of faith, plant it and hope it dies so that only God can make it grow!

What does it truly mean to become unbroken? In this powerful episode of The MisFitNation, host Jake Holland sits down with author Adriene Caldwell for one of the most emotional and inspiring conversations ever featured on the show. Adriene's story is one of unimaginable hardship—and extraordinary resilience. After surviving childhood abuse, foster care, homelessness, addiction, family trauma, mental illness, and devastating personal loss, Adriene refused to let her past define her future. Instead, she rebuilt her life, broke the cycle of generational trauma, became a successful financial professional, raised an incredible daughter, and wrote her powerful memoir, Unbroken: Life Outside the Lines. Throughout this deeply personal interview, Adriene opens up about the darkest moments of her life while offering hope to anyone struggling with trauma, depression, grief, addiction, or the weight of their past. In this episode, you'll discover: • How childhood trauma shapes adulthood—and how healing begins • What surviving abuse and foster care taught her about resilience • Breaking generational cycles and becoming the parent she never had • Living with depression and chronic illness without losing hope • Why forgiveness is one of life's most difficult—and freeing—journeys • The surprising life lessons that came from a year living in Germany • Why Adrienne believes "Boring is Underrated" • How writing her memoir forced her to confront buried trauma • Advice for anyone afraid to tell their own story • Three simple principles for becoming a better human: Love Yourself. Be Honest. Be Kind. This conversation is more than an interview—it's a reminder that your past does not have to determine your future. Whether you're a survivor, a caregiver, a veteran, a first responder, or someone searching for hope, Adriene's story proves that healing is possible and resilience can be learned. Episode 5 moved *a lot* of plot lines forward and the guys attempt to untangle them in this recap. For instance, Lee attempts define exactly what the "family drama" and "mommy issues" are that seem to be plaguing the Targ boys. There is the requisite fussing about dialogue and plot, and Lee comes up with the Unified Theory of Why The Show Isn't As Good As Game of Thrones (theory name still under development). Most people open the Old Testament and see 39 disconnected books. Dr. Carol Kaminski sees one story. A Cambridge-trained Old Testament scholar and the creator of the CASKET EMPTY framework, she has spent three decades helping the church read Scripture the way it was meant to be read, as one connected account of God's plan of redemption running from creation all the way to Chronicles. In this conversation she takes apart the assumption that Noah was chosen because he was good, traces grace as the engine driving the entire Old Testament, and lands on a discovery hiding in the Hebrew of 2 Samuel 7 that points straight to the resurrection. From the call of Abraham to the rise and fall of the kings to the exile and the return, she shows how every period of Israel's history is moving toward a single center. In this episode you will learn:Why the books of the Old Testament are not in chronological order, and how that one fact changes the way you read your BibleWhat the CASKET acronym means and the six periods that hold the whole Old Testament togetherWhy Noah was not chosen for his righteousness, and what that says about graceHow the golden calf story exposes the true character of the God of the Old TestamentWhy the singular word "seed" in God's promise to Abraham points directly to ChristThe Hebrew word in the Davidic covenant that the Greek translates as resurrectionWhy Chronicles closes the Old Testament by retelling the entire story from the beginningHow to finally read the Old Testament as one unified narrative instead of scattered versesDr. Carol Kaminski is Senior Professor of Old Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Ph.D., University of Cambridge) and the founder of Casket Empty. Three years ago Jamie Bedwell and his wife Abi were on this podcast as newly licensed professional triathletes with the world opening up before them. This week Jamie is back, riding solo, and the story has taken a turn nobody planned for. Three years of gradual deterioration. Chronic back pain, loss of power in the left leg, pins and needles that left him feeling, in his own words, more like a pirate with a wooden leg than a semi-decent triathlete. Every race ended the same way. Every solution fell short. Until earlier this year, when he finally got a diagnosis: flow limitation of the iliac artery, FLIA, a condition where the main artery feeding blood to the leg kinks under the repeated stress of cycling and running. There was a surgery. There was a one in five chance of it going wrong. There was a man in the waiting room who had been back eight times. And there was a surgeon who asked Jamie a simple question: why would you risk so much just to compete in triathlon? Jamie didn't need the six weeks he was given to decide. He said no to the surgery, yes to swimming, and started figuring out what comes next. This is one of the most honest and quietly moving conversations I have had on this podcast. 5 KEY POINTS FLIA affects competitive cyclists and triathletes specifically. Millions of pedalling repetitions thicken the iliac artery over time, restricting blood flow under race conditions. Day to day there is no pain at all. The surgery carries a one in five failure rate. If it goes wrong, the athlete doesn't just lose their sport. They lose the ability to walk uphill or ride a bike with their kids. Jamie said no to protect something bigger than his career. He wanted to remain in sport for the rest of his life. The surgery put that at risk. Once he understood that, the decision was straightforward. Swimming has always been his weakest discipline. He won his first open water race on the River Arun and qualified for the national championships in Sheffield. He is just getting started. Resilience isn't about pushing through. It is about knowing what you are actually fighting for and making decisions that protect it. 3 TAKEAWAYS Know what you are protecting. Jamie turned down surgery not because he gave up on sport but because he refused to risk losing it permanently. Discipline and love will take you further than a fixed goal. Jamie doesn't know where swimming will take him. He just knows those two things are enough. Identity is bigger than the sport. Jamie is applying for ordination, building a community of Christian athletes with Abi, and becoming, in his own words, a more gentle and humble person.   KILLER QUOTE "I'm so grateful there is such a thing called sport. Whether you're going to Park Run or competing at the highest level — sport gives every single person the opportunity to test themselves. And I'm grateful I still have that opportunity."   CONNECT with Jamie Jamie Bedwell is a former professional triathlete and competitive open water swimmer. This is the last challenge of the summer, and it may be one of my favorites. Along with it comes an encouragement to carry this challenge into the fall. We are commanded in the New Testament to meet with other believers because of the way it strengthens and encourages us. My favorite verse, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, tells us to “Encourage one another and build each other up.” My family has done this well through books. You can probably tell I love them a lot, but I love them even more when I get to read them with other Christians, especially mom friends. A few years ago I invited friends and strangers into my home to spend 18 months going through the book “Lifegiving Home.” Sometimes we discussed the book; other times we just shared what we were struggling with and prayed for each other. That year was one of the most spiritually formative and lifegiving phases of my life. I've done that again this summer for my son byinviting his friends who enjoy reading to join him at a coffee shop to read the Junior version of “Unbroken.” I hope this episode about books and reading encourages you. I'll also link below both Whitney's book and my book. Both would be amazing places to create if you want to do one of these groups for yourself!

On this episode of The Project Endure Podcast, Joe Rinaldi sits down with Matt Fumo — paralysis survivor, endurance athlete, nonprofit founder, and advocate for the spinal cord injury community — for a remarkable conversation about resilience, recovery, and finding purpose through unimaginable adversity. Matt shares the story of a life-changing diving accident at age 19 that left him paralyzed and initially facing a prognosis that suggested he would never move below his shoulders again. He opens up about the terrifying moments underwater, the years of rehabilitation that followed, and the mindset shifts that helped him move from believing he had "ruined his life" to recognizing the possibility of a meaningful future. Joe and Matt explore the role of community, faith, perspective, and mental resilience throughout recovery, including how lessons learned from baseball and watching his father battle cancer helped shape his response to adversity. The conversation also dives into Matt's decision to complete an Olympic triathlon on the five-year anniversary of his injury, the discipline required to train for that goal, and his work through Unbroken Motion, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals living with paralysis. From overcoming impossible odds to learning the value of rest, patience, and hope, this episode is a powerful reminder that endurance is not about avoiding hardship, but discovering who you become because of it. Give this episode a listen as we dive deep into Matt's life and learn about what persistence, perspective, and endurance mean to him.   If you found value in this episode and would like to help us grow, please leave the podcast a review on your platform of choice and share it with a friend(s).
