Mea Culpa welcomes Norm Eisen. There's pretty much nothing going on in politics today that Eisen doesn't have an educated opinion about. Eisen is a CNN Legal Analyst. And the founder and executive chair of “States United Democracy Center”, a nonpartisan organization advancing free, fair, and secure elections. Eisen served as special counsel to President Barack Obama on ethics. In that role, he was dubbed “Mr. No” and the “Ethics Czar” because he's well known for his tough anti-corruption approach to governance. Eisen is also active with the Brookings Institute and other groups working to expose the myriad of ways Trump and others like him broke the law and attempted to overturn the 2020 election. Eisen is also working with the Brookings Institute to help Ukraine recover and thrive once Putin's war has ended.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4: According to a report from channel 8 WISH-TV in Indiana, Councilmember Ryan Webb has announced that he will now be identifying as a “lesbian woman of color.” Webb appeared on Fox News with Jesse Kelly to explain his decision to be his “true self” publicly for the first time. In response to the collapse of First Republic Bank, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre stated the Biden Administration is very confident there will be no more banking failures. Rachel Louise Ensign and Ben Eisen of The Wall Street Journal write, “[r]egulators seized First Republic Bank and struck a deal to sell the bulk of its operations to JPMorgan Chase Co., heading off a chaotic collapse that threatened to reignite the recent banking crisis. JPMorgan said it will assume all of First Republic's $92 billion in deposits—insured and uninsured. It is also buying most of the bank's assets, including about $173 billion in loans and $30 billion in securities.” You can read Ensign and Eisen's full report here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/first-republic-bank-is-seized-sold-to-jpmorgan-in-second-largest-u-s-bank-failure-5cec723 On Tuesday, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland testified at a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing where she seemingly claimed there were too many jobs in America for “blue collar workers.” Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) questioned Sec. Haaland about the Biden Administration's “clean energy” agenda and its habit of promoting reliance upon foreign nations for the mining of precious metals and minerals necessary for the development of batteries used in electric cars.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- According to The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board, the Biden Administration is seeking to implement a new rule which “will raise mortgage fees for borrowers with good credit to subsidize higher-risk borrowers. Under the rule, which goes into effect May 1, home buyers with a good credit score over 680 will pay about $40 more each month on a $400,000 loan, and upward depending on the size of the loan. Those who make down payments of 20% on their homes will pay the highest fees. Those payments will then be used to subsidize higher-risk borrowers through lower fees.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/upside-down-mortgage-policy-212fd736 3:15pm- In response to the expiration of Title 42, President Joe Biden announced that he will dispatch 1,500 active-duty military personnel to the U.S. Southern Border to help prevent illegal border crossings from surging. 3:30pm- Flashback: During an interview with Ezra Klein in 2015, Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) said he vehemently opposed “open-borders” and claimed it was a right-wing proposal being supported by the Koch brothers—alleging that Republicans wanted relaxed border security in order to drive down the cost of labor and, subsequently, enhance the profits of large corporations. How has the Democrat party changed its stance on border security so drastically in just 8 years? 3:50pm- Flashback: In 2018, in response to the Trump Administration's decision to send troops to the U.S. Southern Border, then-Senator Kamala Harris claimed the act was “inappropriate” and “political”—so, then why is the Biden Administration doing the very same thing now? Was Harris simply attempting to politicize the issue in 2018? 4:05pm- During the Senate Judiciary Committee's hearing on Supreme Court Ethics Reform, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated that the hearing's primary intention was to destroy the reputation of ideologically conservative Justices—specifically Justice Clarence Thomas. Sen. Cruz also condemned Senate Democrats for attempting to reduce funding for Justice security even after the attempted assassination of Justice Brett Kavanaugh following the release of a leaked draft of the court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which ultimately upended Roe v. Wade. 4:15pm- The Wall Street Journal's Editorial Board writes, “Senate Democrats are holding another hearing on ‘Supreme Court Ethics Reform'…and it's important to understand that this isn't about ethics at all. This is another front in the political campaign to delegitimize the Supreme Court, with a goal of tarnishing its rulings and subjecting it to more political control.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/supreme-court-ethics-reform-hearing-senate-democrats-john-roberts-clarence-thomas-ketanji-brown-jackson-sonia-sotomayor-d0304d65?mod=opinion_lead_pos1 4:30pm- Nicholas Tomaino—Assistant Editorial Features Editor at The Wall Street Journal—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest editorial, “Politico Aims at Gorsuch and Misses.” Politico's Heidi Przybyla alleges that the sale of a property linked to Neil Gorsuch amounts to an ethics problem for the Supreme Court Justice. But as Tomaino points out, Justice Gorsuch disclosed the transaction and “didn't own the property directly. Rather, he held a 20% share in Walden Group LLC, a company he and two partners formed when they bought the house in 2005, before Mr. Gorsuch was a judge. The company listed the property for sale in 2015, asking $2.495 million, and sold it to Mr. Duffy two years later for $1.825 million.” So where is the ethics problem? You can read Tomaino's full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/politico-aims-at-gorsuch-and-misses-disclosure-colorado-ethics-reform-durbin-87a4fc50?mod=opinion_lead_pos7 4:55pm- During a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan suggested that former Fox News host Tucker Carlson should appear on the online video platform Rumble. 5:05pm- The Drive at 5: President of Thomas Jefferson University Dr. Mark Tykocinski was reprimanded via email by the institution's Chief Executive Officer Joseph Cacchione for “liked” Tweets that questioned the efficacy of gender affirming surgeries for children. Should Dr. Tykocinski have been forced to apologize? Zeoli notes that it appears academia now only accepts dangerous versions of “group think.” 5:20pm- The Mystery Movie Clip: Rich forgets to ask caller twelve for the name of the film… 5:40pm- According to a new poll from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, young Democrats are abnormally depressed. 6:05pm- According to a report from channel 8 WISH-TV in Indiana, Councilmember Ryan Webb has announced that he will now be identifying as a “lesbian woman of color.” Webb appeared on Fox News with Jesse Kelly to explain his decision to be his “true self” publicly for the first time. 6:30pm- In response to the collapse of First Republic Bank, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre stated the Biden Administration is very confident there will be no more banking failures. Der Geist Gottes hat allerdings unmissverständlich vorausgesagt, dass am Ende der Zeit manche vom Glauben abfallen werden. When Donald Trump is arrested and formally charged this Tuesday for alleged crimes in New York, it will be a historic spectacle. As we all know, no U.S. president or former president has ever been charged with a crime. This unprecedented event puts the nation in uncharted, and some say, dangerous territory. To understand what this all really means, and what we can expect after Donald Trump's historic day in court, Fernando speaks with Norm Eisen, one of Washington's most respected legal experts. Now an analyst with CNN, Eisen was the Special Counsel for Ethics and Government Reform in the Obama White House. He also served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic and was later appointed special counsel to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee where he drafted the first articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. He is now a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

It's Hump Day! Sam hosts Hannah Story Brown, writer and researcher at The Revolving Door Project, to discuss her recent piece on Biden's approval of The Willow Project. Then, Sam speaks with Michelle Eisen, organizing member of Starbucks Workers United, on her experience organizing Starbucks stores all across the country. First, Sam runs through updates on Biden labeling Bibi Netanyahu persona non grata in the wake of severe authoritarian shifts in Israel, the NY Grand Jury announcing no announcement of charges against Trump this week, Pence to appear before the January 6th Grand Jury, how the Nashville shooter was able to acquire guns, a Credit Suisse whistleblower, the FDA approving Narcan for over-the-counter sale, and Tucker's upcoming testimony in court, before parsing through the highlights from Howard Schultz testimony during this morning's HELP Committee. Hannah Story Brown then walks Sam through the long-term process to pass the Willow Project, with ConocoPhillips, a Texas-based oil company, proposing a drilling project in the arctic wilderness of the Alaskan North Slope that was swiftly approved by the Trump administration, only for Environmental groups to successfully challenge it in court, and force the issue onto Biden's table. Looking at this next phase in Willow's development, Story Brown tackles the minimally updated environmental reviews done by the Biden administration, not only refusing to consider not-drilling as an option, but only cutting the project back by 8%, despite both acute local risks, and the grander global issue of climate change. Wrapping up, Sam and Hannah discuss the role of corporate interest in moving this environmental fiasco along, and dive into the impact of Biden's new Chief of Staff, Jeff Zients. Michelle Eisen then joins, diving into her background as a Starbucks worker, working part-time up until the pandemic shut down her primary trade, and what it was like to see the company's commitment to their workers dwindle further and further, until the public health crisis of COVID-19 became the final straw, with the company asking workers to break the law and put their own safety at risk with little compensation, all while touting record-breaking profits. Next, Eisen and Sam parse through the unionization process with Starbucks Workers United, both as a single workplace and as the first of hundreds to be unionized in the US, and the necessity of maintaining active in the face of militant union-busting, before they wrap up by covering the union's major asks, and why legislation such as the PROAct can help make it happen. And in the Fun Half: Sam basks in the public evisceration of Howard Schultz, as Ed Markey and Bob Casey take him to task while he whines about being labeled a “Billionaire,” despite once not having a billion dollars. Sam responds to Joe Rogan's recent spineless callout, “Matt Taibbi” calls in to discuss the unfair treatment of journalists, and KJ from Wisconsin dives into the upcoming election. Asanti from Jersey talks AI art, Bruce from Florida discusses the heel turns of Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi, and Tim Pool once again forgets to read the article he's citing ahead of time.

This is probably the fourth or fifth time I've interviewed Chris, and every conversation is better than the last. Yes, I'm a fan of Daughtry professionally and personally. He's a really solid guy and very talented. He gets a little more in-depth about why he covered Journey's "Separate Ways" with Lzzy Hale. "Lzzy and I have been talking about doing a duet, whether it be an original or a cover, for a long time. When we did that acoustic tour she came out on one of the dates and did an acoustic cover of Alice In Chains' 'Man In The Box', and, I was thinking "Maybe we should record that" and then this idea came up, I was like "Hey, would you be interested in covering 'Separate Ways'?" She responded that was her go-to karaoke song, and they were on their way. That's just for starters with Chris. Tripp Eisen is up next. We discuss everything from Dope to Static X to the Murderdolls. What's his relationships like with some of his former bandmates? Why isn't he in the new incarnation of Static X? What was his last encounter with Wayne Static like? (That was an interesting story) What's he got going on in 2023? These questions and many more were answered. -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/2023/01/19/chris-daughtry-talks-about-covering-journey-with-lzzy-hale-the-rock-community-plans-for-2023-and-more-meltdown/ https://wrif.com/2023/01/20/tripp-eisen-talks-dope-static-x-murderdolls-and-much-more-meltdown/ https://daughtryofficial.com/ https://www.trippeisen.com/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

Steelers insider Mark Kaboly from The Athletic joined the show. Mark thinks the Jets over Dolphins is the biggest worry for the weekend. He expects the Steelers to beat the Browns, unless they can't manage to stop Nick Chubb or Kareem Hunt. The guys asked Mark about the Steelers conservative game plan. Mark wants to see Kenny Pickett open up downfield, but he thinks it is being hammered in his head to be more careful with the football. Mark thinks the biggest argument against Matt Canada for next year is wasting Pickett's formidable years with a coordinator that lacks a lot of creativity. Mark expects Mark Robinson to see a good bit of snaps again. Mark sees the Steelers making the playoffs. Rich Eisen bashed any Steeler fan that is calling for Mike Tomlin. He called them “dumb.” Poni wondered if it was a shot at him or Chris. The guys also defended themselves – saying you can credit him greatly for some of his seasons, but also realize the team has been largely mediocre for the last 10 years and fails to win in the playoffs again and again. How many head coaches would you take right this minute over Tomlin? A legendary WPIAL coach has stepped down.

Mea Culpa welcomes back our good friend Norm Eisen. So, let's go now to my conversation with Norm Eisen. Michael and Norm dig into Trump's legal woes and what the upcoming year in politics will look like.

In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we caught up with Melissa Harrison from the University of Wisconsin-Madison to talk about her work on the “Pioneer” Transcription Factors - Zelda and Grainyhead - and their role at the maternal-to-zygotic transition. The Harrison lab studies how differentiation and development are driven by coordinated changes in gene expression. To do this, the targets of choice are the transcription factors Zelda and Grainyhead that bind to the genome at specific and crucial points in development and differentiation. These specialised transcription factors have the ability to bind to DNA in the context of nucleosomes which defines regulatory elements and leads to subsequent binding of additional classical transcription factors. These properties allow pioneer factors to act at the top of gene regulatory networks and control developmental transitions. References Harrison, M. M., Botchan, M. R., & Cline, T. W. (2010). With hundreds of elections deniers running in the midterms, democracy is on the ballot this fall. The team at the States United Democracy Center is at the forefront of efforts to ensure free, fair, and secure elections in 2022, 2024, and beyond. Cofounders Norman Eisen, Joanna Lydgate, and Christine Todd Whitman join us this week to talk about how they're doing it in states across the country and how everyone can support their efforts.Through legal, policy, and communications work, States United is fighting back empowering state leaders as they defend elections. These officials are the frontline champions in the battle for our democracy. Governors help enshrine voter protection into law, and attorneys general defend those laws—along with election results. Secretaries of state oversee elections, and law enforcement leaders make sure they are safe and free from violence. States United's mission is to bring these leaders together to protect elections, prevent political violence, fight disinformation, and pursue accountability for those who step outside the bounds of our democracy.Eisen is a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, former Ambassador to the Czech Republic, and Special Counsel to the White House for Ethics and Government Reform. Lydgate is the former Chief Deputy Attorney General of Massachusetts. Whitman is the former Governor of New Jersey and was the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator in the George W. Bush administration. They are the recipients of the McCourtney Institute for Democracy's 2022 Brown Democracy Medal.States United Democracy CenterStates United: A Survival Guide for Our Democracy - Eisen, Lydgate, and Whitman's book written as part of receiving the Brown Democracy Medal
Mea Culpa welcomes back to the show our good friend, Norm Eisen. There's pretty much nothing going on in politics today that he doesn't have an opinion about. His recent book, "Overcoming Trumpery” is a great read, especially as we get into the midterms and watch Republican candidates try to mimic Trumpian tactics to get elected. Eisen is a CNN Legal Analyst. And the founder and executive chair of “States United Democracy Center”, a nonpartisan organization advancing free, fair, and secure elections. Eisen served as special counsel to President Barack Obama on ethics and government reform. Eisen is also working with the Brookings Institute to help Ukraine recover and progress now and hopefully post Putin's war. As we always say, Eisen is a witness to history. Michael and Norm dig deep into the upcoming midterms, the rise of antisemitism, and Trump's legal woes.

Wednesday's game featured two moments where Russell Westbrook's destructive attitude was, at least in theory, on display. Twice he seemed either to ignore or try and separate himself from teammates, indicating that he's a toxic influence destined to sink the season for the Lakers. Except as it turns out, both moments had perfectly reasonable explanations, fairly well confirmed by available evidence. First, he appeared to be communicating with the bench while Patrick Beverley was waving teammates together. And Westbrook has moved away from the team huddle after pregame introductions for years. So the latter was the norm, and the former doesn't seem like a particularly big deal. All of it, though, reminds people that when it comes to Westbrook, many (many, many) fans are ready to vent some serious anger about his play, the trade, management and everything else connected to the deal. Anthony Davis, meanwhile, said he's ready to start at center if that's what the team needs to win, but he's not necessarily clamoring for it. It's clear he still prefers more minutes at power forward. Why, though? Some theories... Finally, Jeanie Buss was a guest with Rich Eisen earlier this week, and made headlines for suggesting that sexism was the foundation for all the questions about her inner circle, and who is in it. Do Mark Cuban and Joe Lacob get asked that question? It just seems to be her inner circle people seem obsessed with, Buss said. Eisen respecfully pushed back, as he should have. Because while Buss unquestionably has dealt/still deals with sexism in her role as governor of the team, this line of questioning is a bad example of it. We explain... HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Westbrook addresses "Huddlegate." SEGMENT 2: Why does Davis care so much about the distinction between center and power forward? SEGMENT 3: Jeanie Buss says sexism is at the core of constant questioning about her inner circle. She's wrong. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
