This week's episode is all about reconnecting. We talk to Punch Mountain's Mac Blake and David Jara about being work friends, losing touch, reconnecting, and the TV Show Baggage
Having a film score performed live at a screening makes it all the more electrifying – and, in the case of reimagining the silent western The Return of Draw Egan, even more hysterically funny. With a script rewritten by Mac Blake and Carlos LaRotta (Master Pancake Theater), the lively tale was given proper treatment with […]
Aaron gives Mac Blake a hypothetical.
Read the article at ComedyWham.com! Comedy Wham Presents Live form Austin's The Fallout Theater features one of Austin's beloved storytellers Aaron Brooks! Aaron shares with Valerie what he's been up to since his original Comedy Wham interview in 2016 - he's created Six Shooter (with Mac Blake), Low & Inside (with Nick Saverino), and the beloved Lanalax Corporation podcast (with Pat Dean). But even more exciting news is ahead! Aaron's debut album, Secrets (Sure Thing Records) is out 7/30/2019 and he's headed to LA. BONUS - at the end of the episode Aaron leads Valerie through a mini The Lanalax Corporation adventure!!! It does not end well for Valerie. Special thanks to Fallout Theater, Motern Media, Dustin Svehlak, Richard Goodwin, Lara Smith, and "Mini".
This is a movie that now feels like a fairly mediocre network television drama. There must have been something positively sparkling about it in 1983 when it won practically every award out there, but aside from one or two iconic Jack Nicholson scenes and a handful of good lines, this is a plain old ramble of a movie through a standard divorces-and-dates plot. It does end with cancer, which must account for its reputation as a tear-jerker, but Mac and I were not moved to much beyond confusion. The most difficult part is just figuring out WHEN the movie is taking place, with confusing time jumps and visual cues about era that are way lost on a 21st century audience. Not a bad movie, but definitely not a barnstormer in its old age. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Mac Blake is a comedian who keeps Austin laughing on a regular basis. He's been doing it for almost a decade, making his shows just as much about stage presence as they are about punchlines. He was voted funniest person in Austin in 2013, and has a couple albums, including his latest, Live At Coldtowne. We talked about joke writing, AD writing, his perspectives on creativity, and more. Hear why Mac is still MVP!
Live at Spiderhouse Ballroom with Aaron Brooks, Mac Blake, Martha Kelly, and Pat Dean.
Maddy stops by Austin for some Texas-style toots with local comedians, Mac Blake, Cody Dearing, and Lance Gilstrap! Boy howdy, did we have a time. Lance had no reason to doubt his rusty skills, meanwhile Mac's "mind and butt were blown" over and over again, and, Cody frankly struggled to keep up but we love him anyway.
