Can the Cavs' 2025-26 start spark a return to their defense-first identity?

In this episode of the Wine and Gold Talk podcast, Ethan Sands and Jimmy Watkins answer Subtext subscriber questions about the Cavs. The conversation delves into the team's defense, concluding that a return to a top-tier defensive identity relies on both player effort and, more importantly, a top-down organizational philosophy that prioritizes defensive-minded lineups and personnel, a shift they believe is reflected in recent offseason acquisitions. The hosts also debate whether mentorship from a quiet but dominant player like Tim Duncan or an intense competitor like Kevin Garnett would be more beneficial to helping Cleveland's soft-spoken front court develop a more aggressive playoff mentality. How do you create a culture your people love to walk into AND still win when it matters most? Recorded LIVE in London on 5 September 2025, 'Steve Kerr & Mikel Arteta: The Leadership Playbook' brings two elite coaches together for a rare, unguarded conversation about modern leadership. Brought to you by Aleda, in collaboration with Live Love Better, Steve and Mikel unpack the jump from player to coach; what clarity really feels like; how to communicate hard truths; and the daily habits that keep a group aligned under pressure. They compare approaches to culture-building (from the guard at the gate to the locker room vibe), managing “difficult” talent, and designing environments where diverse personalities can thrive. Along the way: Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan and Steph Curry; Phil Jackson’s mindfulness; Steve’s letters to players; Pep Guardiola’s decisiveness; the Federer success routine; why authenticity always wins; and how sport can unite people in a divided world. There’s family, perspective, and the simple rituals that refill the tank PLUS audience Q&A on toxic vs. high-impact personalities, mindfulness in high performance, and delivering tough messages with compassion and precision. It’s, quite frankly, awesome! Learn. Lead. Collaborate. Start your leadership journey today. Head here to find out more about our signature, cross industry collaboration program, Aleda Connect. Basketball Coach Unplugged ( A Basketball Coaching Podcast)

https://teachhoops.com/ What's up, basketball fans, and welcome back to "Court Vision." Today, we're diving into a topic that doesn't always show up on the stat sheet but is absolutely critical to winning championships: leadership. When you think of a team leader, your mind might jump to the superstar who drops 30 points a night, the one hitting the game-winning shot. And while that's part of it, true on-court leadership runs so much deeper. It's the player who communicates on defense, who knows when to calm the team down during a chaotic moment, and who isn't afraid to hold everyone, including themselves, accountable. Think of players like Draymond Green or Chris Paul—their value isn't just in their individual stats, but in their ability to elevate the entire team's performance and basketball IQ. They are the coach on the floor, the extension of the game plan, and the glue that holds a team together through the highs and lows of a long season. Host: But leadership isn't a monolith; it comes in all shapes and sizes. You have the vocal, fiery leaders—the Michael Jordans and Kevin Garnetts of the world—who lead with intense passion and demand the absolute best from their teammates through sheer force of will. Their energy is infectious and can ignite a team. On the flip side, you have the quiet, stoic leaders like Tim Duncan or Kawhi Leonard, who lead by example. They aren't going to be the loudest guys in the huddle, but their relentless work ethic, consistency, and calm demeanor under pressure provide a steadying force for the entire organization. Neither style is inherently better than the other; the most effective leadership is often the one that best fits the team's personality and meets the moment, proving that you don't need to be the loudest voice in the room to have the biggest impact. They discuss the challenges of maintaining high performance in sports, referencing players like Cal Ripken Jr. and Aldous Chapman, and the mental resilience required to succeed at elite levels.10:48 -Discussion on Competitiveness in SportsNick Shedd discusses the mindset of competitive athletes, using Tim Duncan as an example of someone who balances a relaxed personality off the field with intense competitiveness on it. He believes that the essence of sports is to focus on the main objective, which is to score and prevent the opponent from scoring, regardless of style. Michael Wright echoes this sentiment, admiring Duncan's ability to remain calm while being a relentless competitor.13:12 -Overview of Nick Shedd's Career and Insights on Player DevelopmentNick Shedd detailed his journey to becoming the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Boston Red Sox, highlighting his work with the U.S. Army, Olympic teams, and the Houston Astros. He explained the structure of the minor league system and the significant differences in player development, particularly between single A and double A levels, as well as the physical disparities between major league and minor league players.18:13 -Programming for Athlete DevelopmentMichael Wright asked how to effectively program for athletes at different developmental stages, particularly balancing the needs of older players and younger ones. Nick Shedd described their system, which includes 18 strength and conditioning coaches and a tiered approach to training. The foundational movement capacity tier focuses on basic movements with minimal loading for younger athletes, while subsequent tiers emphasize strength and power based on performance-related strength thresholds.21:11 -Metrics and Performance in Baseball TrainingNick Shedd outlined the collaborative efforts to enhance players' biomechanics, including their pitching and hitting techniques. He highlighted that metrics such as throwing velocity are critical for pitchers, with a significant correlation between speed and success in Major League Baseball. For position players, hitting performance is a key indicator of value, alongside the necessity of being a competent defender.25:12 -Data Tracking in Sports AnalyticsNick Shedd explained the advanced tracking technologies employed in baseball, such as TrackMan for pitch metrics and Hawkeye for in-game speeds and biomechanics. He mentioned that while MLB restricts the use of GPS wearables, minor leagues benefit from this technology. Michael Wright shared his perspective from football, emphasizing the significance of GPS data for player performance monitoring and injury prevention.29:29 -Balancing Athlete Robustness and DevelopmentNick Shedd explains that the average minor league career is short, necessitating a focus on physical development even during the season. He highlights the importance of educating players on nutrition and maintaining a consistent training regimen, often lifting twice a week to ensure continued improvement.33:47 -Strategies for Athlete Rehabilitation and Performance OptimizationNick Shedd explained the process of nursing injured athletes back to performance, focusing on the need to gradually increase their game exposure while avoiding overload. Michael Wright provided examples from cricket, illustrating the complexities of managing athletes who have missed significant playing time due to injuries. Both emphasized the importance of data-driven approaches in monitoring recovery and performance. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this insightful Market Mondays clip, hosts Ian Dunlap, Troy Millings, and Rashad Bilal are joined by a top financial commentator as they dive deep into Nvidia's unparalleled impact on the tech and AI market. The team unpacks why Nvidia stands out as not just a dominant force, but perhaps the most influential company today—surpassing Apple in both relevance and innovation.Ian starts by highlighting Nvidia's visionary move to focus on building America's AI infrastructure instead of jumping on the social media and app bandwagon like many Silicon Valley peers. He likens Nvidia's role to “Tim Duncan” for the market, stepping up with game-changing chips right when the U.S. needed technological leadership. With bold multi-year price targets, Ian credits Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's relentless drive and paranoia as crucial to the company's success, noting their culture of mission-driven work as unmatched: “Everyone there was working on a mission, on a purpose.”Rashad reflects on the incredible financial impacts Nvidia has brought to the Market Mondays audience, asserting that no other company discussed on the show has changed more people's financial situations. Looking ahead, Rashad thinks Nvidia's dominance is only getting started, predicting several more years of strong stock price growth—especially as AI adoption explodes and enterprise demand for Nvidia GPUs becomes mandatory for anyone who wants to compete. The panel collectively recognizes the critical role Nvidia plays in powering not just major players like Microsoft, Meta, Broadcom, and TSM, but also a multitude of emerging AI platforms. Rashad states plainly, “You're not going to be able to lead or even compete in the space without them, and that's not going to change.”In a jaw-dropping moment, the team discusses where Nvidia could be headed in the next few years, with a long-term price call that suggests the company could add another trillion dollars to its valuation—something the market has never witnessed before.Whether you're invested in AI, interested in the next big market mover, or simply a fan of top-tier analysis, this clip lays out why Nvidia is in a class of its own—and why watching their next moves is essential for savvy investors.Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more deep dives and financial insights from Market Mondays!*Hashtags:* #MarketMondays #Nvidia #AI #StockMarket #Investing #TechStocks #FinancialFreedom #NVDA #ArtificialIntelligence #MarketAnalysisOur Sponsors:* Check out PNC Bank: https://www.pnc.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/marketmondays/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

0:00 ... Ross hello & welcome ... introduces panel and dedicates episode #156 to Stephen Curry for his 56 point game against Orlando in February. 1:23 ... Ross tees up discussion of the Knicks big win over Boston on Monday night, giving NY a 3-1 lead in their playoff series.  World B feels it was one of the most impressive Knicks games in more than two decades. 3:32 ... Bruce felt that even with an 11 point lead at halftime, the Celtics were not in great shape because the Knicks stayed attached the entire game. 5:04 ... Jayson Tatum played great until he injured himself in the final minutes but it appears to be a serious injury and it sure looks bad for his return on Wednesday. for game 5. 8:00 ... Bruce appreciated Tatum's scoring heroics in game 4, but took issue with some of his shot decisions and how they helped stifle the Celtics ball movement, thus playing into New York's hands.  World B points out how Boston plays a lot of isolation ball and when they don't penetrate into the paint, they can be successfully defended. 10:46 ... With Tatum likely unavailable in game five, the guys discuss who might step up for Boston.  Jrue Holiday might be ready to have a big night. 13:08 ... Ross and World B discuss the pressure NY may feel if Boston can somehow take game 5 on Wednesday.  World B has lots of praise for Tatum and how much he respects him. 15:08 ... Ross is concerned that Kristaps Porzingis may be physically unable to step up in to help fill the void that Tatum leaves in game five. 15:39 .... The Cavaliers are being curb stomped by Indiana as they also trail their series 3 games to one.  They may not be dead, but they're close to dead.  The Cavs are lucky that Sunday's blowout only counted for one loss. 22:30 ... Bruce puts Bennedict Mathurin on notice that moves like his bush league punch in game 4 will get him extra scrutiny from the refs if the Pacers move on.  World B feels like Indiana has exhibited some punk-like behavior in the series. 23:59 ... The Thunder and Nuggets are tied at 2 games each out west and OKC's defense has carried the team with their offense not looking especially sharp. 25:15 .... Bruce predicts that Shai Gilgeous Alexander will received his MVP Award on Tuesday night before game 5.  Bruce feels that OKC's defense wore down the Nuggets in game four and in the final quarter caused the Nuggets to "drop their hands" like a boxer who absorbs too many punches to the ribs.  Ross predicts a Nuggets win in game five and a seven game series ... World B agrees and has high praise for Aaron Gordon of the Nuggets for his performance.  Ross feels Gordon is their 3rd most important player. 32:33 ... Game four of Timberwolves/Warriors was underway as the show was being recorded on Monday night and none of the guys felt that Golden State would come back to take the series.  Julius Randle was having another big game and has found his playoff groove in Minnesota.  With Steph Curry injured, they just need more scoring than they can muster right now. 36:14 ... The Draft Lottery took place on Monday night and the guys respond to the Dallas Mavericks beating the odds and earning the right to draft Cooper Flagg in June's NBA Draft.  Bruce was thinking that when the Spurs made it into the top four, they might once again get the 1st overall pick as they did with Victor Wembanyama, Tim Duncan, and David Robinson in previous NBA Drafts. 37:50 ... The saddest teams in the league have to be Charlotte, Washington, and Utah, all of whom were hosed in the lottery and missed out on the #1 overall pick. 41:08 ... The guys take issue with ESPN's star NBA journalist Shams Charania claiming that Giannis Antetokounmpo discussed leaving Milwaukee for the very first time this weekend when he actually did it on our podcast back in September of 2023.  We playfully demanded an apology but offered to kiss and make up if he joins us on a future show to talk hoop!  Giannis' comments on 48 Minutes were instrumental in helping the Bucks to acquire Damian Lillard, which required them to trade Jrue Holiday to Portland and led to the trade to the Celtics. 44:10 ... Ross was on Milwaukee radio today and told the host "Sparky" Fifer that Bucks fans shouldn't panic because Giannis is loyal to the Bucks and the city. 45:38 ... Milwaukee can't expect to get equal value in return for Giannis in any trade because players of his caliber are hardly ever are traded.  Oklahoma City has the assets needed to entice the Bucks into a possible trade, so we'll see if those teams do business in the off-season. 50:10 ... Ross wraps things up and says goodbye. TRT 50:33
