Shower of Light is a guided journey designed to release old weight, tension you've been holding in your body, thoughts you keep replaying, feelings you've tucked away because there wasn't time to deal with them. With midterm elections fast approaching, the Republican Party, already compromised by Donald Trump's cratering popularity and track record of criminality and immorality, is dealing with multiple candidates mired in damaging personal scandals. Rachel Maddow takes a look. James Talarico, Democratic candidate for Senate from Texas, talks with Rachel Maddow about not taking the bait on culture war issues Republicans use to try to pit Americans against each other, and the efforts he's making to reach out to his state's large Black constituency, as well as the immigrant community being terrorized by ICE. Rachel Maddow considers which former Fox News host installed in a high-profile position in the Trump administration is doing the worst at their job, and concludes that "Judge" Jeanine Pirro is probably winning that contest with her abysmal track record of embarrassments in court, not only failing to do Donald Trump's bidding, but making an absolute fool of herself in the process. Episode Summary Love after divorce doesn't work the way it did the first time — and no one tells you that. This episode breaks down why midlife love isn't a fairytale, it's a negotiation. Why your partner isn't going to transform into someone new, he's going to become a more honest version of who he already is. And why real intimacy at this stage isn't about butterflies it's about honest and full disclosure. If you're navigating dating, partnership, or remarriage after divorce, this episode gives you the language for what you're actually building, and the questions you need to be asking before you commit again. What You'll Learn Why "falling in love" is a young-love concept — and what chooses its place in midlife The difference between accepting someone's baggage and accepting abuse (a critical line to draw) What actually needs to be on the table before you commit to someone again — the full disclosure conversation Why expecting a midlife partner to transform is a direct path to resentment The four things couples avoid naming until it's too late: kids, exes, co-parenting, finances How to grieve the young-love fantasy so you can access real, adult partnership Key Quotes "Love after divorce isn't falling. It's choosing." "You're not building a fairytale. You're negotiating a merger." "He's not going to become a different man. He's going to become a more honest version of the one standing in front of you." "Midlife love isn't blind. It's the first time you actually get to see clearly." "You don't get a blank slate at 45. You get a full ledger — and you sign it with your eyes open." "Young love says 'I hope you change.' Mature love says 'show me exactly who you are, baggage and all, and I'll decide.'" "The delusion isn't loving someone with a past. It's expecting the past not to show up." "Real intimacy at midlife isn't chemistry. It's disclosure." In This Episode The blank slate myth — why we keep expecting a fresh start at 45+, and why that expectation sets every midlife relationship up to fail Baggage vs. abuse — how to tell the difference between a partner with a past and a partner who is a risk, and why conflating the two keeps women stuck in the wrong direction on both ends The full disclosure conversation — what should actually be said out loud before you commit: expectations, non-negotiables, financial reality, co-parenting boundaries, what you want and don't want The grief nobody names — letting go of the young-love fantasy is its own loss, and skipping that grief is why so many people repeat the same pattern in a new relationship Choosing over falling — what it looks like to build a relationship on eyes-open acceptance instead of chemistry and hope Who This Episode Is For Women navigating dating or partnership after divorce, women in a serious relationship post-divorce trying to figure out if it's real, and anyone who has caught themselves waiting for a partner to become someone they're not. You can’t out-willpower your baggage. I’ve heard this from professionals for decades. “I’m just going to push through it.” If that worked, psychology would have solved this 100 years ago. When the field first began, the question on the table was: can you think a certain way and get past your emotional baggage? The answer was no then. It hasn’t changed. Your baggage lives in your unconscious mind. Willpower is a conscious-mind function. They operate in different places. One cannot override the other. No matter how much discipline you bring to it. This shows up in leadership, in sales, in high-pressure roles. The professional who powers through burnout. The executive who compartmentalizes grief and wonders why their decision-making feels off six months later. The salesperson who white-knuckles through call reluctance instead of addressing what’s underneath it. Here’s the reframe. The willpower you need is the willingness to find a technique that goes to the root. That’s where your effort belongs. Once you have the right tool, the process is about trusting your unconscious mind to release what conscious effort never could. We’re running our master level event in California right now. 68 people. Two full weeks of deep work. In week two, we teach Mental and Emotional Release®, a technique I developed for exactly this purpose. It goes to the unconscious and helps people release the anger, sadness, fear, guilt, and shame that willpower alone can’t reach. I'm kicking off the brand-new After Reality Flashback series with Kalon McMahon, one of the most unforgettable villains from Emily Maynard's season of The Bachelorette. He also reveals the truth behind his iconic helicopter entrance — what was real, what was production, and how that over-the-top arrival put a target on his back from night one.As two former Bachelor Nation villains from the old-school era, Kalon and I go all the way back — before TikTok, podcasts, Instagram statements, influencer careers, and contestants having any real way to tell their side of the story.Kalon looks back on the moments that defined his time on reality TV, from the helicopter entrance and “sorry not sorry” to the infamous “baggage” scene that followed him for years. We unpack how that moment really played out behind the scenes, what viewers didn't see, and what filming was actually like when the edit was everything. We also get into producer pressure, house dynamics, villain edits, Bachelor fashion, who Kalon was hoping the Bachelorette would be — spoiler alert, it was me — dating after the show, how Bachelor Pad changed the audience's perception of him, the very first season of Bachelor in Paradise, and where life has taken him since, including Texas, pickleball, and married life with his wife Emily.Juicy, nostalgic, and full of show truths, this is a candid look back at a completely different era of Bachelor Nation — when the fashion was questionable, the storylines were ruthless, and one sound bite could follow you forever.@kalonmcm Hosted on Acast.
