In 2009 in Iran, Maryam and Marziyeh were imprisoned and sentenced to death because of their Christian faith. Maryam and Marziyeh were born into Muslim families but converted to Christianity and began to share the Gospel with those around them. They were arrested in March 2009 after being accused of evangelism and apostasy. After 259 days in Tehran's notorious Evin Prison they were released. This is their story. https://www.alpha.org/blog/leadership-conversations-with-nicky-gumbel-podcast-maryam-marziyeh/
Muslim Judge who was going to sentence them for death penalty was lying just like the Pope claiming that Islam professes the same God as Christianity. But they didn't deny Christ. Joel sits down for a conversation with Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh, authors of the book Captive in Iran, which chronicles their remarkable stories of conversion, imprisonment and release. Theirs is a story of friendship, brought together by a shared passion for the gospel, forged on the front lines of the persecuted church, and tested in the depths of one of the worst prisons in Iran. We learned about the miraculous ways that God spoke to them in dreams and visions, empowered them to minister and witness to inmates and guards, and ultimately orchestrated their eventual release. Maryam and Marziyeh's story helps us to develop a more robust understanding of Iran and the growing church there. It was a conversation we were thrilled to have and are proud to bring to you. In Iran, Christians are being arbitrarily detained, arrested, tortured, and sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Converts from Islam to Christianity are specifically targeted by the regime and labeled a national security threat. Yet, in spite of all this, the underground church in Iran is growing rapidly and people continue to turn to the Christian faith. FRC recently hosted Maryam Rostampour, Marziyeh Amirizadeh, and Dabrina Bet Tamraz, three Christian victims of religious persecution from Iran, who shared their stories. After their testimonies, Arielle Del Turco, Research Assistant for FRC's Center for Religious Liberty joins Lecture Me! to give further analysis of Iran's pattern of persecution and what believers in the U.S. can do to help support the persecuted.
Pastor Mark speaks with Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh about their experiences getting arrested for their faith in Jesus. They knew they were putting their lives on the line. Islamic laws in Iran forbade them from sharing their Christian beliefs, but in three years, they’d covertly put New Testaments into the hands of twenty thousand of their countrymen and started two secret house churches.
John McCarthy meets people who have had to confront their own beliefs while held captive. John who was held hostage by Islamic radical groups in Lebanon, speaks to two Iranian women who risked torture in one of the world’s most notorious prisons after being convicted of apostasy for spreading the message of Christianity in their strictly Islamic home country. Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh were known as the ‘dirty Christians’ in Evin prison where they suffered horrendous conditions and witnessed daily abuse. But this did not stop them from sharing the Gospel within the prison. But what the authorities didn't know was that they had distributed approximately twenty thousand bibles they had given out before they were sent to Evin. They now live in the US, and despite the daily horrors they witnessed, Maryam and Marziyeh see Evin as a church – somewhere they were placed by God to spread the word. But John will ask about their work now in a country where there is freedom to pray and preach. Presenter: John McCarthy Producer: Geoff Bird
Testimony of Maryam Rostampour & Marziyeh Amirizadeh, with a closing thought from Pastor Michael Durso. Sunday, June 18, 2017.
What does it mean for Christians in prison to get letters from Christians around the world? It means that they are part of a family, and they are not forgotten. In Part 2 of our interview with Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh they share more of the story of how God used them inside Iran's notorious Evin Prison, where they spent 259 days. Listen as they share the heartbreak of seeing children born in prison and later taken from their mothers. Maryam and Marziyeh share how their treatment in prison changed when letters from around the world began arriving, and they'll give ideas about how we can talk to Muslims about our faith in Christ. You'll be inspired by the faith of these two women who consider it an honor to have been allowed to suffer for Jesus. Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh were bold evangelists in Iran, sharing their faith and distributing Bibles in that Islamic nation. Their evangelism work caught the attention of the authorities, and the two women ended up in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison, where they spent 259 days. But even in prison, Maryam and Marziyeh saw God’s hand at work, providing for them and allowing them to be witnesses for Him. “We experienced in prison how we should trust God and how we should trust His plans,” Maryam says. This week on VOM Radio they share how they began their ministry, what happened the day of their arrest, how they saw God at work in prison and even about the most discouraging day in Evin. You will be inspired as you hear Maryam and Marziyeh share about their sacrificial love for Christ. Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh knew they were putting their lives on the line. They knew it when they handed out New Testaments, and they knew it when they shared the message of Jesus with their countrymen. Their bold witness for Christ would cost them: they spent 259 days in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison. But even in prison God had a plan as He opened the doors for incredible ministry among their fellow prisoners.
