It's Tuesday, October 4th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes and heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Writing letters to persecuted Christians helps International Christian Concern reports that writing letters to Christians in prison is highly effective. In regards to 7,500 letters mailed to two Iranian Christians imprisoned for their faith, ICC reports, “The letters don't always reach the prisoner. In Maryam and Marziyeh's case, they never actually got to read a single one. But guess who did read the letters? All 7,500 of them? Their guards! And as the guards read letter after letter, they began to treat Maryam and Marziyeh differently knowing the world was watching everything they did. The guards even became curious about the Bible verses written in the letters and would ask Maryam and Marziyeh for explanations.” Find out how to write letters to persecuted saints at www.persecution.org/letters Christian physician assistant fired over refusal to use fake pronouns Speaking of persecution, there's another example in the American workplace. Valerie Kloosterman, a physician assistant within the University of Michigan Health system, has been punished for her Christian convictions. When asked by representatives of Human Resources and the Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion if she would use “gender identity-based pronouns and be willing to refer patients for gender reassignment surgery,” she told them she could not because of her religious beliefs, reports The Christian Post. According to First Liberty, the interviewer “grew hostile, visibly angry with tight fists and a flushed demeanor, and attacked her religious beliefs. … [He] told Ms. Kloosterman that she ‘could not take the Bible or her religious beliefs to work with her, either literally or figuratively;' that given her religious beliefs against gender identity-based pronouns and ‘gender reassignment surgery,' she was to blame for transgender suicides; and that she was ‘evil.” Subsequently, she was fired after a stellar,17-year career. First Liberty is demanding that she be reinstated or the legal defense organization is promising a lawsuit in a federal court. Revelation 14:12 challenges believers to endure persecution. The Scripture says, “This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep His commands and remain faithful to Jesus.” Big Tech upset with porn-filtering software Big Tech is demonstrating its commitment to online pornography, with Google removing porn-filtering companies from the Android Play Store. This comes after the left-leaning Wired.com published an article titled "The Ungodly Surveillance of Anti-Porn ‘Shameware' Apps.” It was an attack piece on Covenant Eyes and Accountable2You. Not the Bee commented on Google's actions. They wrote, “Meanwhile, Amazon, Instagram, Facebook and other apps all listen to you ALL THE TIME and give you ads based on things you just say out loud near your phone.” But, let us remember, “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7) New poll: Republicans have shot at retaking Congress In God's providence, it appears the Republicans have a good shot at regaining control of Congress in the 2022 elections because Americans are more concerned about their money than abortion. A Monmouth poll found that 47% of voters would prefer a Republican-controlled Congress than Democrats, reports The Washington Examiner. And 82% of Americans see inflation as extremely or very important, over 56% who rank abortion as a significant concern. Ukrainian president wants NATO membership fast-tracked As of last Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is asking NATO to accelerate Ukraine's membership application, reports World Magazine. This follows Russia's claim on four provinces in the Ukrainian state. In response, Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's top security official, called Zelenskyy's request akin to “begging NATO to accelerate the start of World War III.” Gun sales continue to skyrocket For gun sales, 2022 will turn out to be the third strongest year in American history, right behind 2020 and 2021. That's according to AmericanRifleman.org. Gun sales in the U.S. averaged 4,000,000 in the 1990s and early 2000s. Over the last three years, the average has been between 10 and 13 million. Europe's 10% inflation rate There is no abating inflation in the Eurozone — registering 10% in September, up from 9.1% in August. Meanwhile, the Bank of England has jumped back into Quantitative Easing with plans to issue another $650 billion in the upcoming weeks. The UK national bank has increased its base rate to 2.5% throughout seven rate hikes since January, fighting its own 10.0% inflation rate. Brazil's Bolsonaro outperforms polls, headed to run-off And finally, pundits are saying it was a victory for conservatives in the Brazilian elections over the weekend. The presidential race tips to a runoff election scheduled for October 30th. The incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro, came within 5% of his challenger, Luiz Inácio Lula, the former leftist president. Indeed, Bolsonaro outperformed the prediction of the polls by 6-8%, giving Bolsonaro a fighting chance for the October 30th runoff. Sometimes referred to as South America's Donald Trump, Bolsonaro's favored candidates won the governorship of São Paulo, and the governorship of Rio de Janeiro. Bolsonaro to Tucker Carlson: My campaign anchored by John 8:32 Tucker Carlson from Fox News interviewed President Bolsonaro before the weekend's election. The president quoted from John 8:32 in his comments. BOLSONARO: “I connected my campaign anchored only with a biblical passage: John 8:32. ‘Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.' The media never gave me any visibility or space. Much to the contrary, they attacked me all the time throughout the campaign. If the left wing does come back to power, in my view, they will never leave power, and this country will follow the same path as Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia. Brazil will become one more wagon on that train. “The losers will be the Brazilian population and also the left wing itself. The left wing voters will lose as a result. All of South America will be colored red, if you understand me. And, in my view, the United States will become virtually an isolated country in the world.” CARLSON: “Amazing interview. And guess what? This will shock you. Bolsonaro bears no resemblance whatsoever to the descriptions of Bolsonaro you have read in the New York Times. Completely different person. Seen that before?” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Tuesday, October 4th, in the year of our Lord 2022. Two Girls. Two Backpacks. Twenty Thousand Bibles. For years, Maryam and Marziyeh operated an underground Bible smuggling ministry in Iran, determined to share the gospel with a nation hungry for the truth about Jesus. The post Episode 13: The Backpack Bible Smugglers appeared first on Persecution.
Joel sits down for a conversation with Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh, authors of the book Captive in Iran, which chronicles their remarkable stories of conversion, imprisonment and release. Theirs is a story of friendship, brought together by a shared passion for the gospel, forged on the front lines of the persecuted church, and tested in the depths of one of the worst prisons in Iran. We learned about the miraculous ways that God spoke to them in dreams and visions, empowered them to minister and witness to inmates and guards, and ultimately orchestrated their eventual release. Maryam and Marziyeh's story helps us to develop a more robust understanding of Iran and the growing church there. It was a conversation we were thrilled to have and are proud to bring to you. John McCarthy meets people who have had to confront their own beliefs while held captive. John who was held hostage by Islamic radical groups in Lebanon, speaks to two Iranian women who risked torture in one of the world’s most notorious prisons after being convicted of apostasy for spreading the message of Christianity in their strictly Islamic home country. Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh were known as the ‘dirty Christians’ in Evin prison where they suffered horrendous conditions and witnessed daily abuse. But this did not stop them from sharing the Gospel within the prison. But what the authorities didn't know was that they had distributed approximately twenty thousand bibles they had given out before they were sent to Evin. They now live in the US, and despite the daily horrors they witnessed, Maryam and Marziyeh see Evin as a church – somewhere they were placed by God to spread the word. But John will ask about their work now in a country where there is freedom to pray and preach. Presenter: John McCarthy Producer: Geoff Bird

This week we continue looking back on some of the most impactful testimonies shared with us this year on VOM Radio. We’ll hear how God reached into the home of the police chief in a Southeast Asian village—even as the police chief was fighting against the gospel. We’ll hear from former prisoner Bob Fu what it means to a prisoner when he or she knows that Christians are praying for them. Sean will tell us how God used VOM to help save the life of an evangelist in Bangladesh after he was brutally attacked. Samuel will tell us about the risks of following Christ in Pakistan. We’ll hear from three different people impacted by a 2007 attack in Turkey that took the lives of three Christians. Brother Gokhan was a friend of those killed; Tim is now the pastor or the church the three men attended; and Semse Aydin is the widow of one of the martyred believers. Then we’ll hear from three guests who told us about the church in Iran—the fastest growing church in the world. Dr. Sasan will share with us about how Iranian Christians find joy in persecution. Nazanin works in a call center for one of our media partners, witnessing to and discipling Iranian believers by phone. Dr. Mike Ansari will tell us about a special effort to get Bibles digitally into Iran. Finally, Maryam and Marziyeh will share about the miracle of finding God’s Word inside the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran. You’ll be inspired and challenged as we look back on some of the amazing stories God has allowed us to share on VOM Radio in 2016.
What does it mean for Christians in prison to get letters from Christians around the world? It means that they are part of a family, and they are not forgotten. In Part 2 of our interview with Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh they share more of the story of how God used them inside Iran's notorious Evin Prison, where they spent 259 days. Listen as they share the heartbreak of seeing children born in prison and later taken from their mothers. Maryam and Marziyeh share how their treatment in prison changed when letters from around the world began arriving, and they'll give ideas about how we can talk to Muslims about our faith in Christ. You'll be inspired by the faith of these two women who consider it an honor to have been allowed to suffer for Jesus. Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh were bold evangelists in Iran, sharing their faith and distributing Bibles in that Islamic nation. Their evangelism work caught the attention of the authorities, and the two women ended up in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison, where they spent 259 days. But even in prison, Maryam and Marziyeh saw God’s hand at work, providing for them and allowing them to be witnesses for Him. “We experienced in prison how we should trust God and how we should trust His plans,” Maryam says. This week on VOM Radio they share how they began their ministry, what happened the day of their arrest, how they saw God at work in prison and even about the most discouraging day in Evin. Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh knew they were putting their lives on the line. They knew it when they handed out New Testaments, and they knew it when they shared the message of Jesus with their countrymen. Their bold witness for Christ would cost them: they spent 259 days in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison. But even in prison God had a plan as He opened the doors for incredible ministry among their fellow prisoners.
