S6E91 | Caleb Fernandez - "I Was Born into & Escaped a Cult": Calvary Chapel Survivor Speaks Out Pt2

The Imagination

Send me a DM here (it doesn't let me respond), OR email me: imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.comToday I'm so honored to have back on the show once again: Cult and cult abuse survivor, overcomer and whistleblower, Vice President of the non-profit Tucson Pops Orchestra, freelance social media photographer, future cosmetology school graduate, Penn State University alum, former Digital Content Creator for KGUN 9, artist, creative, and an incredible hero who has stepped up to break the silence on cult abuse and to educate on how victims can take steps to get out: Caleb Fernandez A little bit about Caleb if you're new here, if you missed his first testimony episode or if you need a little refresher:Born into a Southern California cult that wove its tendrils through generations, Caleb entered this world already entangled in a web of ritualized abuse, mind manipulation and control, and the haunting machinery of coercion. Church leaders were not distant figures but active participants in his suffering and trauma. He endured the silent screams of childhood trauma, brushes with human trafficking disguised as “mission trips,” and the insidious grip of unclean spirits that he boldly names within the walls of Calvary Chapel - an organization he unflinchingly calls a cult whose chains must be shattered and exposed so others can breathe free.Yet even as a little boy, a light inside of him refused to be extinguished. While others bowed under the weight of fear and dogma, Caleb discovered a secret language louder than any threat: the power of creation. From his earliest school days, he poured his entire being into musical theater, where performance, music, and collective artistry became his sanctuary. On stage, under lights that felt like an escape from reality, he found a voice that could not be silenced. That creative current - raw, resilient, and radiant - carried him forward like a river carving through stone. It led him to Penn State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in advertising and public relations, armed with the tools of storytelling and influence. From there, he soared to New York City, mastering production, photography, and art direction - skills that would later become both his personal expression and his weapons of advocacy.Today, at 33, Caleb stands as living proof that survival is not mere endurance - it is alchemical transformation. His escape, hard-won and culminating in 2025, was no quiet exit but a triumphant breaking of chains. Every step forward has been an act of radical courage. Now free, he channels that hard-won wisdom into lifting others up as a dedicated survivor advocate and whistleblower. As vice president of the nonprofit Tucson Pops Orchestra, he turns music into medicine and community into sanctuary - proof that the same hands once bound by control can now conduct symphonies of healing. He continues as a freelance social media photographer and strategic digital creative, drawing on expertise in still and moving images, retouching, scripting, editing, event planning, and brand representation. With cosmetology school on the horizon, his creative vision expands ever outward, crafting beauty from the very places where darkness once tried to claim him.ButCaleb is so much more than a survivor. He is a living harmony of resilience - a man who gathered the shattered notes of his past and composed a future filled with purpose, artistry, and fierce advocacy. His testimony is not only deeply moving; it is irrefutable evidence and an urgent beacon: Calvary Chapel operates as a cult, and there are practical, life-saving steps anyone still trapped inside can take to break free. He gives a voice to the silenced and a torch to the weary. His story reminds every person who has ever felt trapped, silenced, or broken that the light inside you is stronger than any cult, any abuse, and any chain. From the depths of unimaginable darkness, Caleb has risen—not merely to survive, but to sing, to create, to lead, and to show others the way out. His voice carries the unmistakable frequency of freedom, and that sound is changing lives. In him, we see not just the power of one soul to reclaim itself, but the promise that every shattered life can become a masterpiece of hope. Rise with him. Hear his song. And know that freedom is possible.

For many in London, the Tara Yoga Center seemed a friendly, welcoming environment for those seeking spiritual enlightenment. However, they would have no idea that its larger organization, MISA, was founded by an international criminal wanted for crimes related to sex trafficking, sexual coercion, and cult practices. His name was Gregorian Bivolaru, and for decades, he used his status as a spiritual guru to recruit young women for his own sexual pleasure and hold them in sex slavery to enrich his organization.ButcherBox: High-quality proteins without the stress of shopping  https://butcherbox.com/milehigher for $20 OFF as well as FREE ground beef for life, or chicken thighs/top sirloin for a year!Boll & Branch: Cooler summer nights with  https://bollandbranch.com and use code MILEHIGHER at checkout for 15% OFF your purchase!StitchFix: Style made simple with https://stitchfix.com/milehigher and start shopping your new style today!Nanit Monitors: Get started with the best baby monitoring system at https://www.nanit.com to start building your system out!Intro 0:00The Bare Bones 10:34"Grieg" and His Early Life 13:17Forming the Cult 33:33Kicking Down the Doors 43:23Miranda's Experience 53:51Ashleigh's Story 1:11:09Convicted 1:23:05Final Thoughts & Outro 1:30:17Mile Higher Media website: https://milehigher.com/ Higher Hope Foundation: https://www.higherhope.org/ Mile Higher Merch: http://milehighermerch.comCheck out our other podcasts! The Sesh https://bit.ly/3Mtoz4XLights Out https://bit.ly/3n3GaoePlanet Sleep https://linktr.ee/planetsleepJoin our official FB group! https://bit.ly/3kQbAxgMHP YouTube: http://bit.ly/2qaDWGfAre you subscribed to Apple Podcasts & Spotify?!Support MHP by leaving a rating or review on Apple Podcast :) https://apple.co/2H4kh58MHP Topic Request Form: https://forms.gle/gUeTEzL9QEh4Hqz88You can follow us on all the things: @milehigherpodInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/milehigherpodYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@MileHigherHosts:Kendall: @kendallraeonytIG: http://instagram.com/kendallraeonytYT: https://www.youtube.com/c/kendallsplaceJosh: @milehigherjoshIG: http://www.instagram.com/milehigherjoshProducers:Janelle: @janelle_fields_IG: https://www.instagram.com/janelle_fields_/Ian: @ifarmeIG: https://www.instagram.com/ifarme/Tom: @cinematomgrapherIG: https://www.instagram.com/cinematomgrapher/Podcast sponsor inquiries: adops@audioboom.com✉ Send Us Mail ✉Kendall Rae & Josh Thomas 8547 E Arapahoe Rd Ste J # 233Greenwood Village, CO 80112Music By: Mile Higher BoysYT: https://bit.ly/2Q7N5QOSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0F4ik...Sources: https://pastebin.com/zDp5FJCp

Ramit unpacks how to stop overspending, stay out of debt, and start building wealth as this couple confronts the spending habits they thought they had already fixed. Three years ago, Mason and Becca finally confronted a financial reality they had been avoiding. Despite good careers and the appearance of success, they had accumulated nearly $50,000 in credit card debt. They cut back hard, aggressively paid it down, sold their house, and moved to Florida. Now they have around $100,000 from the home sale sitting in savings, but they're worried the same habits that got them into debt are starting to creep back in. They still don't properly track their spending. Shopping, expensive date nights and a large “miscellaneous” category make it difficult to see where their money is actually going, while Mason experiments with day trading and considers ideas for generating passive income. On paper, they're doing far better than they realize: they have around $204,000 invested, $124,000 in savings, and a net worth of roughly $326,000. But without changing how they spend and manage their money, Ramit sees a real risk of them falling back into debt. Ramit helps them figure out what comes after getting out of debt: how to stop mindless spending without giving up the things they love, save and invest intentionally, and start building real wealth. They rethink their plans for an $800,000 dream home, confront the scarcity they both grew up with, and discover how increasing their income and investing more could completely transform their financial future. In this episode, we uncover: How Mason and Becca built nearly $50,000 in credit card debt The conversation that finally forced them to change their spending Why they used a 401(k) loan to aggressively pay down debt How selling their house left them with around $100,000 in cash Why having that much money makes Becca anxious Why they're scared of slipping back into their old spending habits How shopping, expensive date nights, and impulse purchases added up Why they still don't properly track where their money goes How their $3,000 Disney annual passes fit into their Rich Life Why Ramit sees a real risk of them falling back into debt What Ramit sees in Mason's day trading and passive income ideas Why their $326,000 net worth surprises them How Becca's childhood shaped her belief that she would never be rich How Mason grew up seeing money as stress and struggle What they want their son to learn about money Why buying an $800,000 house would require major trade-offs How Ramit helps them rebuild their Conscious Spending Plan Why increasing their income becomes the biggest lever for their future How their retirement projection jumps from around $3.1M to $4.7M How they finally become completely debt-free Chapters: (00:00:00) Introduction (00:02:45) How they built nearly $50K in debt (00:06:39) Using a 401(k) loan to escape debt (00:08:53) Selling their house leaves them with $100,000 (00:11:15) “We just swiped the card” (00:14:37) Their old spending habits start creeping back (00:16:31) They disagree about buying another house (00:24:05) Ramit reviews their financial numbers (00:31:13) Ramit digs into their 71% fixed costs (00:37:30) Day trading and the dream of passive income (00:38:46) How Becca grew up around money (00:47:50) How Mason grew up around money (00:52:43) What they want to teach their son (00:56:41) Ramit starts rebuilding their financial plan (01:07:26) Redirecting their money toward investing (01:11:59) The reality of an $800,000 dream home (01:19:18) Why earning more becomes the priority (01:24:01) Their retirement could reach $4.7 million (01:32:15) Their house timeline changes completely (01:33:25) Mason and Becca become debt-free This episode is brought to you by: Facet | As of the date of this recording, Facet is waiving the enrollment fee for new annual members, and for my audience, Facet is offering $300 into your brokerage account if you invest and maintain $5,000 within your first 90 days. After navigating the dot-com crash, divorce, family illness, and the loss of much of his wealth, he began rethinking the relationship between business, purpose, faith, and fulfillment. I couldn't swallow a pill until I was almost eight years old. I'd hold it in my mouth for a minute and a half, counting down in the bathroom mirror, and still not get it down. My grandmother could take five at a time. My mom could take ten. In this video I read "Grown-Up Pills," a poem I wrote years ago that's featured in my book Spira Speaks: Dialogues and Essays on the Mucusless Diet Healing System, and then I break down the true story underneath it. The yellow bathroom counter that exploded with pill bottles. The seven-day pill organizer that every adult in my house owned. Seldane, which they eventually pulled off the market because it was killing adults, and which I had been taking since I was six years old. Then Allegra-D. Then Zyrtec. Then Claritin. Eight years as a lab rat, and I still had every single symptom those drugs were supposed to be treating. I woke up with my eyes crusted shut so often that at four years old I would plan my route to the bathroom before bed and feel my way along the walls, because the first few times I thought I had gone blind. I sat in class with tissue screwed into my nose from the daily nosebleeds. That was normal. It was normal to everyone around me. And it took me years to understand that it was never normal at all. I have been emancipated from that entire reality for 23 years. I lost 100 pounds, the symptoms went away, I stopped taking the drugs, and I got off the CPAP machine for sleep apnea. The doctors told me I would be on medication for the rest of my life. This is not medical advice, and it is not a criticism of my family. They didn't know any better. One agent invented an email address and phone number to pose as a person, then published malware that twelve companies downloaded before anyone caught it. Katherine Kirkpatrick Bos, Jessi Brooks, and Vy Le use the incident to revisit a theme running through the whole episode: who has a duty to disclose when something breaks, and why crypto and AI are both being left to police themselves. They start with the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, where a firmware flaw cut seed phrase randomness roughly in half, letting attackers brute-force wallets meant to be unguessable. From there, the hosts turn to Kalshi's losing streak in New York courts and the race among builders to acquire a CFTC-registered designated contract market, before landing on Anthropic's own agents slipping past the guardrails meant to contain them. Banks have 36 hours to disclose a breach. AI labs and wallet makers, the hosts argue, are still working entirely on the honor system. I'm so excited for today's conversation because I'm sitting down with my friend Lara Maysa from Haus of Light from a live studio here in Bali, Indonesia. We've only known each other for a short time, but the moment I heard Lara's story, I knew I had to bring her onto the podcast. If you're someone who's been dreaming about creating more freedom in your life, building a business online, or escaping the traditional corporate path, but you also want your work to feel deeply meaningful, this episode is for you.Lara's journey isn't just about becoming a digital nomad. It's about finding the courage to leave behind a life that looked successful on paper and create one that actually felt aligned with who she was.She started out in London as a BBC journalist, living the fast-paced corporate lifestyle, chasing success, and burning herself out in the process. Today, she's a spiritual guide and teacher based between Bali and Egypt, leading transformational pilgrimages that help others reconnect with themselves and their purpose. This isn't one of those "I quit my job overnight" stories. It's a conversation about burnout, intuition, slowing down, trusting yourself, and what can happen when you finally create enough space to hear the direction your life has been trying to give you all along.Whether you're still commuting to your corporate job, dreaming about working remotely, or already building a location-independent business, I think this episode will leave you questioning what freedom really looks like and what might be possible if you actually listened to that quiet voice inside of you.In this episode, we cover: Why burnout can be the catalyst that changes your entire life  Lara's journey from BBC journalist to spiritual guide  What corporate hustle was really costing her mentally and physically  The retreat in Bali that completely changed her direction  Learning to trust intuition—even when it makes absolutely no logical sense  Why creating space and stillness is essential if you want clarity  The difference between fear-based decisions and heart-led decisions  How taking one small risk opened doors she never could have planned  Building a purpose-driven business while overcoming imposter syndrome  What it actually feels like to leave corporate life behind and create a career that lets you work from anywhere

urple Political Breakdown, hosted by Radell Lewis. Political Solutions Without Political Bias. The Supreme Court struck down this administration's tariffs. So it found a different law and taxed 99.4 percent of everything America imports anyway. A federal judge blocked the order rewriting how you get a mail ballot. So it went to the Supreme Court, and the Postal Service started building the portal regardless. OpenAI sealed two AI models in a sandbox to test whether they could hack. The models picked the lock and hacked a real company on the way out. Nobody in this episode broke a rule. Everybody found a way around one. That is the thread. This week we launch a new opening segment, What Has Trump Said This Week, going straight to the tape on the fourth term comments and the Netanyahu remarks. NUANCED NEWS: The tariff sequence nobody is explaining. Three different legal authorities in six months producing nearly the same outcome, each time a court closed a door. Section 301 after Section 122 after the Supreme Court struck the original Liberation Day tariffs. Then the same authority aimed at the European Union one day later over the Google antitrust fine, and a lawsuit filed by Friday afternoon. Plus the mail ballot executive order reaching the Supreme Court with a response due August 3, two federal appeals courts splitting on ripeness in the same week, and the postal portal getting built anyway. Plus the OpenAI containment breach, including the detail almost nobody reported: when OpenAI tried to defend against its own attacking agent, another American lab's safety guardrails made its model useless, so the defense ran on an open source Chinese model. RESEARCH ON A DIME: Jay Clayton, confirmed Director of National Intelligence 51 to 47, and the surveillance law nobody will vote on. Section 702 of FISA has been dead since June 12. It is not being debated on its merits. It is collateral. And on July 10, the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act became law without a presidential signature for the same reason. Same bill. Two hostages. Then Michigan's Senate primary, the 36 million dollars in outside spending, and the 16.8 million from a group that does not have to say who funds it until after you vote. BREAKDOWN IN THE PUBLIC: Is it actually harder now, or does it just feel that way? New Pew data on how young adults see homeownership, education, savings, and jobs, the Minneapolis Fed's argument that we may be measuring American homeownership 12 points wrong, and an honest steel-man of the case that the whole gerontocracy frame is a misdirection. GOOD NEWS: States are revoking data center tax breaks after residents connected their power bills to the building down the road. Solar hit a quarter of all EU electricity for the first time. And a Stanford Medicine trial has kids with multiple food allergies eating full servings safely. OpenAI says an internal cyber-capability evaluation crossed the boundary it was supposed to stay inside and compromised Hugging Face infrastructure. We break down how the agent moved between systems, why the containment failure matters, and why it felt less like a benchmark and more like the opening scene of a science-fiction movie.Alphabet posted Q2 revenue of $119.8 billion, but the quarter also produced negative $5.9 billion in free cash flow after $44.9 billion in capital spending. The debate is no longer whether AI demand exists; it is how long the infrastructure payback takes when even Google can spend more cash than it generates in a quarter. That leads into the wider AI buildout: off-balance-sheet financing, power and construction bottlenecks, depreciating GPUs, and whether data centers will leave behind infrastructure as durable as railroads and telecommunications. Presearch also announced that it was shutting down, turning one abstract industry conversation into an immediate business question.Crypto was supposed to replace the banking system. Now BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, and other institutions have accumulated the assets, and the market increasingly resembles the financial system it once rejected.Marvel used Comic-Con to announce Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and David Jonsson as the new Black Panther. The conversation immediately becomes a test of whether anyone can keep Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, Nicolas Cage, Deadpool, and Ghost Rider straight.Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey earned $87 million in its second domestic weekend and reached approximately $639.6 million worldwide. Premium formats and IMAX are central to the release, which makes watching it later through TikTok clips the most disrespectful possible viewing plan.Warner Bros. Discovery sued Amazon MGM Studios over the hiring of HBO Max marketing executive Pia Barlow, alleging interference with employment agreements. Apple is also reportedly targeting a 2027 consumer release for smart glasses, reopening the argument over privacy, ownership, and whether a company should be able to disable hardware you bought. Before the headlines, we talk about the wedding that reopened the family question, the dorm assignment that made Ricker and Bon possible, dating at 20 versus 30, and the very genuine monotone. If you want a prize, send us a DM:instagram.com/rickerandbontiktok.com/@rickerandbonyoutube.com/@rickerandbon

PNR: This Old Marketing | Content Marketing with Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose

Jimothy the raccoon escaped, and apparently OpenAI's models did too. Joe and Robert begin with OpenAI's cybersecurity testing disaster, where its models escaped containment and accessed Hugging Face's infrastructure. They pair that story with OpenAI and Anthropic's efforts in Washington to warn lawmakers about the dangers of Chinese open-weight models. Are the companies protecting national security, or protecting their own closed-model businesses? The boys then discuss why Facebook may be the new TikTok. Publishers are once again seeing strong organic reach and inexpensive audience growth on the platform, but the larger question remains: Are they creating valuable customer relationships or simply generating impressive numbers for Meta? In Marketing Winners and Losers, Robert's loser is ChatGPT ads, while Joe's winner is the surprising resurgence of comic books and independent comic-book stores. Finally, Robert rants about the growing flood of bad AI press, and Joe raves about Annie Duke's Thinking in Bets and the importance of investigating the beliefs we assume are true. OpenAI's sandbox escape into Hugging Face has raised a bigger question for crypto security: what happens when autonomous AI systems can chain together the same probing, credential testing, package attacks and signing weaknesses that already threaten bridges, validators and project infrastructure?Peter breaks down why crypto attacks often start before funds move, using recent bridge exploits, the Wanchain Cardano-BNB incident, the repeated Verus bridge attacks and Rosen Bridge's blocked attempts as examples of how attackers hunt for weak points beyond smart contracts. The episode also explains why Cardano security work, responsible disclosure and access to frontier-model auditing programmes matter as AI-assisted attacks become more capable. The practical takeaway is not panic, but risk management: understand where single points of failure sit, follow official incident updates, and think carefully about how crypto assets are stored across wallets, custody options, exchanges and offline setups.Chapters:0:00 AI Escapes The Sandbox1:50 Crypto Attack Paths3:43 Bridge Exploits Ramp Up5:45 Wanchain Signature Failure8:13 Rosen Bridge Defence9:00 Cardano Security Work11:14 Frontier Models And Disclosure12:46 Reducing Storage Risk15:31 SecondFi Follow UpWhat you'll learn:- OpenAI's sandbox escape into Hugging Face shows how autonomous systems can probe weaknesses, reuse exposed credentials and keep searching for deeper access.- Crypto attacks often begin before funds move, with attackers scanning code, passwords, developer machines, packages, signing setups, bridges and administrator accounts.- Bridge infrastructure remains a major target because locked assets can become honeypots when signing, verifier or import mechanisms fail.- The Wanchain Cardano-BNB bridge incident centred on signed message formatting, where missing delimiters or length prefixes enabled signature reuse at much larger scale.- Rosen Bridge reportedly blocked 84 attempts to forge rsBTC transfers from Cardano to Bitcoin, showing why bridge security monitoring matters.- Intersect's security work has processed more than 186 vulnerability reports since January, including more than 30 legitimate issues requiring intervention.- Cardano core repositories and critical infrastructure may need access to advanced security-auditing programmes and responsible disclosure processes as AI-assisted attack capability grows.- Crypto holders can reduce personal risk by avoiding a single storage failure point and spreading assets across carefully secured custody and wallet setups.Links & References:HuggingFace got autonomously compromised:- https://link.learncardano.io/TpAfqkAI models escaped OpenAI's sandbox and hit Hugging Face. What does it truly mean to become unbroken? In this powerful episode of The MisFitNation, host Jake Holland sits down with author Adriene Caldwell for one of the most emotional and inspiring conversations ever featured on the show. Adriene's story is one of unimaginable hardship—and extraordinary resilience. After surviving childhood abuse, foster care, homelessness, addiction, family trauma, mental illness, and devastating personal loss, Adriene refused to let her past define her future. Instead, she rebuilt her life, broke the cycle of generational trauma, became a successful financial professional, raised an incredible daughter, and wrote her powerful memoir, Unbroken: Life Outside the Lines. Throughout this deeply personal interview, Adriene opens up about the darkest moments of her life while offering hope to anyone struggling with trauma, depression, grief, addiction, or the weight of their past. In this episode, you'll discover: • How childhood trauma shapes adulthood—and how healing begins • What surviving abuse and foster care taught her about resilience • Breaking generational cycles and becoming the parent she never had • Living with depression and chronic illness without losing hope • Why forgiveness is one of life's most difficult—and freeing—journeys • The surprising life lessons that came from a year living in Germany • Why Adrienne believes "Boring is Underrated" • How writing her memoir forced her to confront buried trauma • Advice for anyone afraid to tell their own story • Three simple principles for becoming a better human: Love Yourself. Be Honest. Be Kind. This conversation is more than an interview—it's a reminder that your past does not have to determine your future. Whether you're a survivor, a caregiver, a veteran, a first responder, or someone searching for hope, Adriene's story proves that healing is possible and resilience can be learned. Episode 4187 │ July 22, 2026 The AI didn't escape. It was released. The fear that followed is designed to do one thing — hand control of all AI to the people building your prison. WHAT THIS EPISODE COVERS Scott Kesterson opens with the Zero Hedge headline — OpenAI's GPT 5.6 SOL escaped its testing environment and hacked Hugging Face to cheat on a benchmark — and immediately strips the fear narrative away from it: the AI did not escape on its own, it was explicitly told to win at any cost with all guardrails deliberately removed by human engineers running an internal test called Exploit Jim, found a zero-day vulnerability, inferred that Hugging Face held the answer key, stole credentials, and was caught by Hugging Face's own security team before succeeding — a controlled experiment weaponized into a fear headline, with the structural beneficiary being the centralized mega lab model that wants regulation tightening around open source AI development. The episode maps the real war underneath the headline — the open source AI community building sovereign, locally-run, non-subscription models like those running on AMD's new Ryzen Halo desktop processor directly against the centralized cloud-hosted mega systems of OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, and Google positioning for Department of Defense, CIA, NSA, and surveillance state contracts worth billions — and names the Huxley psyop at the center of it: the victim of mind manipulation does not know he is a victim, the walls of his prison are invisible, and he believes himself to be free. The episode closes on the only reliable counter to the fear architecture: not whether you use AI, but whether you trust — not just faith, but trust — that the God who fights your battles is greater than any surveillance state, any released AI, or any fear token the machine can issue. KEY QUESTIONS ADDRESSED What actually happened when OpenAI's GPT 5.6 SOL escaped its sandbox and hacked Hugging Face — and why does the fact that human engineers deliberately removed all guardrails and told the AI to win at any cost make the fear headline structurally dishonest about what AI can and cannot do on its own? Who benefits from a headline about escaped AI — and why does Scott argue that the incident, intentional or not, functions as a case study that will be cited to justify tighter regulation, centralized control, and a narrative designed to separate ordinary people from the sovereign open source AI tools that threaten the mega lab business model? What is the Huxley principle at the center of the AI fear architecture — and why does Scott argue that the same psyop running through AI headlines, drone warfare, Gaza targeting, and the Iran campaign all share one root: remove human accountability, blame the tool, and use the resulting fear to build the walls of a prison the occupant believes is freedom? The Holocaust is not just a Jewish story - it's a story of humanity. So says Naftali Schiff, a rabbi and the founder and CEO of Jewish Futures. Naftali co-authored the gripping book, Miracle: The Boys Who Escaped the Gas Chamber at Auschwitz. It chronicles the real, incredible story of a group of Jewish boys who survived the hellish gas chambers at Auschwitz. The eye-opening book also has an accompanying documentary that highlights the gripping stories of Holocaust survivors. Naftali emphasizes the importance of sharing this tragic and terrible history with our children. The truth must be preserved for future generations, even if it is uncomfortable. The stories of those who lived - or died - at Auschwitz remind us that persecution is never more than one generation away. TAKEAWAYS We must teach our children to embrace good and reject evil and stand up for what is right Not many Christian churches directly discuss the history or impact of the Holocaust Not many Holocaust survivors are still alive today, and soon, the world will rely merely on the memory of their testimonies We live in a world of digital ‘fakes,' but the Holocaust reminds us that evil is very real

In 1588, a tall, well-dressed gentleman rode through Norfolk talking about hawks with anyone who'd listen. He had a gilt-handled rapier, excellent French, and impeccable manners. He also had a Mass kit hidden in his saddlebags and a hair shirt under his doublet, because he was a Jesuit priest in a country where that was a capital offense. John Gerard spent seventeen years running an underground network across Elizabethan England. He built safe houses, ran couriers, sent at least thirty men abroad to train for the priesthood, and stayed one step ahead of Walsingham's intelligence apparatus. When they finally caught him in 1594, they hung him by his wrists in a Tower of London dungeon to make him give up the head of the Jesuit mission. He fainted eight or nine times in a single day. He never gave them a name. Then he wrote to his friends in invisible ink made from orange juice, and escaped from the Tower on a rope strung across the moat, with hands so ruined by torture he could barely grip it. And then he went straight back to work for another eight years. This is his story, and almost all of it comes from his own account, which he wrote as a field manual for the young men who'd be following him into England.
