Ted Bundy crossed a state line in September 1974 and became a new person. Washington had his name. Washington had his composite. Washington had two hundred thousand tips. None of it followed him to Utah.He arrived in Salt Lake City as a first-year law student with clean plates and a clean record. Between October 1974 and August 1975, he moved across Utah, Colorado, and Idaho. Nancy Wilcox, sixteen, vanished in Holladay. Melissa Smith, seventeen, the police chief's daughter, was found in a canyon nine days after she disappeared. Laura Aime, seventeen, left a Halloween party and was found on Thanksgiving Day. Caryn Campbell, twenty-three, walked down a brightly lit hallway at a Colorado ski lodge and never reached her room.On Taylor Mountain back in Washington, forestry students found four skulls: Lynda Healy, Susan Rancourt, Kathy Parks, Brenda Ball. Their families were burying daughters while Utah was just beginning to look.The break came from two directions. Carol DaRonch, eighteen, who had fought her way out of Bundy's Volkswagen on November 8, 1974 — the only survivor who could identify him. And Sergeant Bob Hayward, parked in his own driveway, who chased a dark VW at 2:30 AM and found a kit in the front seat that no law student has a reason to carry.When Detective Jerry Thompson connected the name Bundy to DaRonch's case and called Colorado and Washington, the files crossed state lines for the first time in nineteen months.This is the second of five conversations in Ted Bundy: History's Hidden Killers. Fertility is dropping worldwide. Across much of the West, total fertility rates now sit around 1.4-1.5 births per woman, well below the replacement level of 2.1. That implies a long-run population decline in the absence of immigration: each generation is smaller than the last, compounding over time. To make this concrete, if you take a representative group of 100 adults today and project forward under a constant fertility rate of about 1.5 births per woman, that group would, on average, correspond to roughly 50 grandchildren two generations later-an effective halving of the population. In South Korea the effect is far more extreme. With a total fertility rate around 0.7-0.8 births per woman, the same kind of projection implies that 100 adults today would correspond to only about 10-15 grandchildren on average two generations later. In other words, each generation is dramatically smaller than the one before it, compounding rapidly over time. So what does this actually mean? What happens when societies move from growth to sustained generational decline? How do pension systems function when the ratio of workers to retirees collapses? What happens to economic growth, political stability, cultural continuity, identity, and population composition in societies that are rapidly aging and shrinking at the same time? In this conversation, I speak with Lyman Stone, Senior Fellow and Director of the Pronatalism Initiative at the Institute for Family Studies, and Director of Research at Demographic Intelligence. Ghislaine Maxwell was not merely an associate; she was a central manager who procured victims, enforced compliance, and maintained the machinery that allowed the abuse to continue for decades. By any objective comparison, Epstein's organization was more structured, more durable, and more dependent on coordinated criminal activity than the enterprises alleged in the Diddy, R. Kelly, or NXIVM cases.The only explanation that accounts for this disparity is not legal logic, but institutional avoidance. This is the story nobody wants to read out loud.For a year, Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been framed as the missing girl who vanished into the orbit of a famous singer and ended up in the trunk of his Tesla. That version is neat. It is clickable. It is almost entirely wrong.Celeste was not missing for most of the year the public thinks she was. Leaving IBLP isn't walking out a door. They have no transferable education, no professional skills, and no social connections outside the movement. IBLP taught that leaving the authority structure meant spiritual destruction. Families cut off members who left. Communities closed ranks.
