Are some spiritual gifts more important than others? In Week 2 of EXTRA ordinary, we look at 1 Corinthians 12:4–6 and confront one of the most common (and damaging) misunderstandings about spiritual gifts: ranking them. The Bible is clear—there are different gifts, different ways of serving, and different ways God works, but the same God […]
What are the crucial issues facing the Church right now? What should pastors and Christian leaders be looking out for in the months ahead? How should we diagnose the cultural moment and respond to it with both wisdom and faith? Pod of the Gaps returns with our (slightly delayed!) episode looking ahead "prophetically" at the issues in the coming year. As always, Aaron and Andy will each live-reveal their three respective challenges for the Church, and discuss each together. If you're interested and/or perplexed about how churches should respond to the challenges at its gates, you won't want to miss this one! ** We're a listener funded podcast ... if you support Pod of the Gaps with a small tip or donation, you can watch this episode as a video. What do we mean when we say "God"? This week's episode is part 2 of tracing the concept from ancient pagan philosophy through Plato and Aristotle to uncover how modern assumptions about God emerged—and why many of them are far from obvious. This sets the stage for exploring deeper East–West differences in how God, goodness, and divine knowledge are understood. Part 1 is recapped in the first 10 minutes. Isaiah 40:28 reminds us that God never grows weary and His understanding is unsearchable, so we don't have to carry life in our own strength or pretend we have all the answers. In light of 1 Corinthians 1, we see God's wisdom and power most clearly in the cross, where what looks weak to the world becomes God's saving strength. So this year we come to Him for strength, trust Him for guidance, and stay close to Christ as He uses ordinary, weak people for His glory.

The Wesley Covenant Service offers a powerful way to refresh our spiritual lives and deepen our relationship with God as we enter a new year. This more than 300-year-old tradition helps us remember that our lives belong not just to ourselves, but to God and our community. Just as Jesus taught that He is the vine and we are the branches, we must remain connected to Christ through prayer, worship, and obedience to bear spiritual fruit. Making a covenant with God means recognizing that He has already claimed us, loved us, and called us into a life of purpose. This involves living as the hands and feet of Jesus in our communities, caring for others, and working for justice and righteousness.

Scripture Reference: Joshua 21:43-45 Anticipating the unknowns of 2026 can be exciting and anxiety inducing. We can be confident that the same God who promised and delivered the land to His people has made promises to us and He is faithful to keep them. Sermon Points: God Makes Promises God’s Promises Seem Dim God Is Faithful to His Promises
We warmly welcome you to join Pastor Barry Blankenship in our inaugural message of the year!
The sermon centers on the enduring truth that God remains constant and faithful amid life's uncertainties, especially at the threshold of a new year, drawing from Psalm 73:24–28 to affirm that God's guidance and greatness are the foundation of hope. It confronts the common human tendency to become discouraged when observing the apparent prosperity of the wicked and the suffering of the righteous, but reveals that true clarity comes only through entering God's presence—through worship, Scripture, and prayer—where the soul is restored and redirected. The message emphasizes that God not only guides believers moment by moment with His counsel but also leads them ultimately to eternal glory, calling for a life of singular devotion to Him alone, where He is both the all-sufficient supply and the sole object of desire. This truth is both a comfort for personal struggles and a challenge to the church to remain anchored in divine purpose, rejecting worldly distractions and placing full trust in God's sovereign plan for this year and beyond.
We may be going into a new year, but we are serving a mighty God. What is God going to do through you in this new year? Thank you for listening and sharing this sermon! #LetGodWorkSermon Notes:[Proverbs 29:18]Where is God in your plan(s)?[Psalm 145:18] | [Psalm 1:1-3]1. VISIONIt's hard to hear from God if you spend no time with Him.[Hebrews 11:1]Vision is difficult when God is small in our lives.2. DISCIPLINEDiscipline requires the crucifixion of our flesh.[Hebrews 12:11] | [Matthew 7:16]Discipline is our foundation. It centers us. It keeps us safe.3. KEEP THE LAW[2 Timothy 3:16-17]God's word is more than just a set of "rules to follow".God desires that we live our best lives (His will for our lives).-God is the GPS, not the driver.-Salvation is not hereditary.-"God is testing me." - God doesn't give a test without an assignment attached to it. He is refining your character.-We cannot hide our true character from God.-You cannot fake development or integrity.-Your relationship with God shows up in how you treat other people.-Nothing is impossible for God.-God sends His best. -> no one better than you![Ephesians 3:16-21]
As the new year begins, Fr. Sean and Fr. Jacob reflect on why most resolutions fail and propose a more Christian approach: ordering our lives around love rather than self-improvement. They explore practical ways to love God more through attention and silence, to love the Church with fidelity rather than critique, and to love priests with prayer and charity.
Certain animals were considered "unclean" before the law, so why aren't they unclean now? Thank you for proclaiming the message of God's grace! What can we do to share this message with others more? If we all get the same reward in heaven, then what is the meaning of the parable of the talents? And why does one servant get so severely punished?

It is important that we go into the New Year with God's Word and in alignment with Him. Regardless of your goals, dreams, and challenges, we all need God to get us there. We need to make sure that we have Vision (from God), Discipline (guardrails for the destination), and Keeping God's Law (God's Word is essential for us!). #LetGodWork[Proverbs 29:18]Thank you for listening and sharing this sermon/podcast!
On today's episode of the Back Porch, Lisa and Allison share New Year's Eve memories, talk about gratitude, and reflect on the hope that comes from remembering God's faithfulness. Join us on the porch as we look back with gratitude and forward with hope, we're so glad you're here!
How will you make this new year different? Philippians 2 tells us that though Jesus was fully God, He was born a human to die on the cross so that we might have eternal life with Him.
