It is vitally important for you to establish safeguards for yourself when discipling hurting people, because your best gift to others is a healthy you! In this session, Melanie and Marshall from Mercy Multiplied discuss very practical safeguards that you can build into your life to ensure that you are as healthy as you can be for the people that you are discipling.
This episode features Melanie Wise and Marshall Gallagher of Mercy Multiplied giving their third track session at our National Disciple Making Forum. Discipling someone who is hurting is much more complex than just helping them fix their eternal issues/struggles. We're called to help others discover the root causes to their struggles and to disciple them into a relationship with Jesus where He can bring healing and transformation at a root level in their lives. In this session, Melanie and Marshall unpack the concept of the “why” behind people's “what.” They also dive into the importance of understanding the source of people's pain, how Jesus responded to hurting people, and how to love someone who is struggling well (including key principles of listening and responding to them).
This episode features Melanie Wise and Marshall Gallagher of Mercy Multiplied giving their second track session at our National Disciple Making Forum. In this session, they unpacked the discipleship keys that have proven transformational to thousands of hurting people for 39 years in Mercy Multiplied's counseling programs: Key 1: Total Commitment to Christ Key 2: Healing Life's Hurts Key 3: Renewing the Mind Key 4: Choosing to Forgive Key 5: Breaking Generational Patterns Key 6: Using Your Authority in Christ Key 7: Maintaining Lifelong Freedom
In January 1983, Nancy Alcorn was determined to establish a program in which lives would truly be transformed. She moved to Monroe, Louisiana to start Mercy Ministries of America (now Mercy Multiplied). She knew that there were three principles to which she must always remain faithful: (1) accept girls free of charge, (2) always give at least ten percent of all donations to other organizations and ministries, and (3) do not take any state or federal funding or any money that interferes with the freedom to share Christ. Several years and many changed lives later, Mercy has established locations in Monroe, Louisiana; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; and Sacramento, California. The organization has grown beyond the borders of the United States, including locations in the United Kingdom, and Canada. Nancy spends her life making sure young women have a chance in life with the power of God. This episode features Melanie Wise and Marshall Gallagher of Mercy Multiplied. It is vitally important that you know who God has called you to be as you disciple people who are hurting and struggling. But it is just as important that you know what you are not called to be! Melanie and Marshall dive into the important characteristics of an “ambassador of freedom,” understanding your role in other people's lives (as opposed to God's role in their lives), knowing who you can help and who you cannot help (yet), and having a firm grasp on when outside support is needed.

April Rodgers welcomes Leslie Lamb of Mercy Multiplied to The Reflecting Light Show to share with us how experiencing shame and thoughts of suicide can be overcome with the help of the Lord and oftentimes the willingness a thoughtful friend to speak life. Leslie rewrote her story of trauma and pain into a beautiful ministry “for her.” Below are some of our favorite takeaways from today's show: ⭐️ Shame is tool used by the enemy to make us feel alone in our darkness, but God can completely break that off if we allow Him to remind us who we are in Him. ⭐️ Typically, those who are suicidal have the desire to escape their current reality while inflicting the least amount of pain onto others. The misconception is that they are just being selfish. ⭐️ Allowing the Lord to walk us out of the darkness is a climb that takes effort, but the hike is worth it because our healing is on the other side. ⭐️ Rewrite your story where trauma is not the overwhelming shame factor, but rather focus on the hope and truth that is found in our faithful God. When we share our stories, we begin a ministry “for her.” ⭐️ Sometimes God uses the obedient actions of others to literally save our lives. Perhaps God is prompting us to offer hope to someone else who is in a dark space. If you find this episode enLIGHTening, please subscribe and leave us a review.
