Cubs Snap Skid in Style, Beat Timber Rattlers 6–2 Behind Gallagher Gem and Wild Double Play The South Bend Cubs got back in the win column Saturday afternoon at Four Winds Field, defeating the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6–2 in a game highlighted by a dominant pitching performance and one of the strangest double plays you’ll ever see. Ryan Gallagher was electric on the mound, tossing 6 innings of shutout baseball with 9 strikeouts, allowing just 2 hits and no walks. His outing gave the Cubs a chance to settle in early and stay in control throughout the game. Jefferson Rojas sparked the offense, collecting 3 hits, scoring 2 runs, and driving in another. South Bend put up 2 runs in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 7th, and added an insurance run in the 8th. Wisconsin’s Tanner Gillis matched Gallagher for much of the game, pitching 6 solid innings with 4 strikeouts and 3 earned runs, but the Timber Rattlers couldn’t overcome the early deficit. The Double Play That Had Everything The game’s defining moment came in the late innings, just as Wisconsin was threatening to mount a comeback. With the bases loaded, the Cubs made a pitching change—and what followed was a defensive sequence for the ages. Marco Dinges lifted a fly ball to left field, where Edgar Alvarez made the catch. Jadher Areinamo tagged up at third and attempted to score. That’s when chaos ensued. Alvarez fired home to catcher Miguel Pabon, who cut down Areinamo at the plate in a rundown. From there, the ball was thrown: From Pabon to second baseman Jefferson Rojas Back to Pabon Then to third baseman Reivaj Garcia Back again to Pabon On to first baseman Brian Kalmer Then to shortstop Cristian Hernandez Eventually, Areinamo was tagged out in a rundown that spanned nearly the entire infield. Meanwhile, another Wisconsin runner had strayed too far off a base during the confusion and was also tagged out—completing an improbable inning-ending double play that killed the Timber Rattlers’ best scoring chance. The crowd at Four Winds Field erupted as the Cubs sprinted off the field, having turned a pressure-packed situation into a momentum-crushing defensive gem.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of the "Parents' Right in Education" podcast, host Suzanne Gallagher welcomes guest Daniel Suhr to discuss the legal battles surrounding teacher strikes and union influence in public education. Suhr, an advocate for constitutional rights in education, shares insights into his legal career, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the constitutional framework within K-12 public schools. The conversation highlights the challenges posed by teacher unions, which Suhr believes have an outsized influence on public institutions, often surpassing legal boundaries. He explains that while teacher strikes are illegal in many states, unions sometimes disregard procedural safeguards, which can lead to broader, unauthorized demands during strikes. Such actions, according to Suhr, not only disrupt educational processes but also undermine lawful governance by enabling unions to overstep their roles.Suhr's firm actively represents parents in lawsuits across the country, seeking to enforce legal standards and ensure that educational disruptions do not harm students and parents. He articulates a vision where parents and elected school boards, rather than union bosses, make decisions about educational policies and school management. The episode delves into the specifics of a case in Portland, where teacher strikes challenged legal and procedural norms, discussing the broad implications of such strikes on the educational system and parental rights. Suhr advocates for a legal strategy ("law-fare") to correct systemic abuses of power by teacher unions, aiming to restore authority to parents and legal guardians in the educational domain.Overall, the podcast underscores the significance of legal advocacy in defending parents' rights and the necessity of holding unions accountable for their actions within public education systems. Suhr and Gallagher encourage listeners to engage with and support efforts to ensure that educational environments respect legal and constitutional parameters.Daniel's website: stopteacherstrikes.comSupport the showIf you need assistance with a situation in your area, please fill out our free consultation form.DONATE TODAY!www.ParentsRightsInEducation.com

Bend Cubs Edged Out by Lugnuts 6–5 Despite Gallagher’s 12 K Gem Lansing, MI — The South Bend Cubs came up just short in a tough 6–5 loss to the Lansing Lugnuts on Saturday night at Jackson Field, despite a stellar outing from starting pitcher Ryan Gallagher. The 2024 sixth-round draft pick delivered a career-best performance, striking out 12 batters over six innings and allowing just five hits. Unfortunately, two pitches proved costly — a two-run home run by T.J. Schofield-Sam in the second inning and another two-run shot by Sahid Valenzuela in the fifth. Down 4–1 entering the sixth, the Cubs rallied. Drew Bowser lined a two-run single to cut the deficit to one, and the game was tied moments later when Miguel Pabón scored on a controversial fielder’s choice. The Lugnuts failed to turn a double play, and while the throw appeared to beat the runner, the umpire ruled the defensive player wasn’t in contact with second base while possessing the ball. Lugnuts manager Darryl Kennedy strongly disputed the call and was ejected from the game. The Lugnuts regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a catcher’s error, and added what turned out to be the game-winning run in the eighth on a throwing error by the right fielder. South Bend mounted a final rally in the ninth. Brian Kalmer scored on a line-drive single to right by Ivan Brethowr, but Brethowr was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double to end the game. Right fielder Jared Dickey fired to shortstop Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, who applied the tag to secure the final out. Despite the loss, South Bend out-hit Lansing 9–6, and Gallagher’s dominance on the mound was a bright spot as the Cubs look to bounce back in the series.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today's poem is What Does It Say by Tess Gallagher. The Slowdown is currently taking a break. We'll be back soon with new episodes from a new host. This week, we're going back into the archive to revisit Tracy K. Smith's time as host. Today's episode was originally released on July 17, 2019. In this episode, Tracy writes… “When I packed up for college, back in 1990, I took sneakers and loafers. I probably also brought some nerdy deck shoes, and maybe even a pair of heels. But by the time my sophomore year rolled around, nearly all of those shoes had been replaced by a pair of black cowboy boots. I wore them everyday, even in snow. By the time I came home for the holidays, they were worn down at the heel and a coin-sized hole had been worn through each sole. I was afraid I'd have to let them go, but my mother took them to the shoe repairman, who resoled them, built the heels back up, and polished them to a high shine, reviving them to their former glory!” Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today. Gallagher’s Pitching Gem Leads South Bend Cubs to 5–0 Shutout Over TinCaps It was a picture-perfect day at Four Winds Field, and the South Bend Cubs made sure the fans went home happy with a commanding 5–0 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Behind dominant pitching, timely hitting, and crisp defense, South Bend improved their standing with one of their most complete performances of the season. The story of the day was Ryan Gallagher, who delivered a masterclass on the mound. The right-hander pitched six innings of no-hit baseball, racking up eight strikeouts while walking just one. Gallagher was in total control from the first pitch, keeping TinCaps hitters off balance with a mix of fastballs, breaking balls, and pinpoint command. His performance set the tone early and gave the Cubs a strong foundation. After Gallagher’s dominant outing, the Cubs bullpen kept the momentum going. Luis Rujano took over in the seventh and kept the no-hitter alive for one more inning before the TinCaps finally broke through with a hit in the eighth. Sam Thoresen came in to close things out in the ninth, sealing the combined shutout and allowing just the third Fort Wayne hit of the day. While the pitching stole the headlines, the offense gave the arms plenty of breathing room early. The Cubs came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning, plating four runs to take immediate control. Catcher Miguel Pabón was at the heart of the rally, delivering two RBI singles in the inning as the Cubs batted around. Pabón also had a strong day behind the plate, managing the pitching staff with poise and precision. South Bend tacked on another run later in the game, but with the way the pitching staff performed, it was more than enough. The win showcased what the Cubs are capable of when everything clicks — elite pitching, timely hitting, and sharp fielding all coming together. With the shutout win, the Cubs continue to build momentum as they progress through the season. The hometown crowd was treated to sunshine, strikeouts, and a statement win.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Leaf Blowers & Blood - Paul Gallagher's Strong Karen Read Trial Testimony Retired Canton Police Lt. Paul Gallagher stepped up to the stand on May 5, 2025, bringing his years of experience to bolster the prosecution's case against Karen Read. His testimony focused on his role at the crime scene where John O'Keefe was found dead, specifically how he used a leaf blower to clear snow and preserve evidence like blood and a broken cocktail glass. This was a key moment, as the prosecution argues these items—found_near O'Keefe's body—tie directly to Read's SUV and her alleged drunken hit-and-run. Gallagher's matter-of-fact delivery gave the jury a clear picture of a meticulous, if unconventional, effort to secure the scene, reinforcing the idea that the evidence points to Read's guilt. Gallagher's testimony was a headache for the defense because it grounded the prosecution's physical evidence in a professional's actions. He likely explained how the snow complicated things, but his use of a leaf blower was a calculated move to uncover critical clues without contaminating them. Watch the full coverage of the live stream on The Emily D Baker YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/live/CQm0FID9AXYDay 9 of the Karen Read Retrial happened on May 5, 2025. We continue with Cross Examination and finishing up the testimony of Hannah Knowles from the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory who explains the blood alcohol conversions and retrograde extrapolation, and how timing is critical in this case. Testimonies from Ryan Nagle, Heather Maxom, and Sarah Levinson provide insights into the events at 34 Fairview, including arrival times and observations of Karen Read's SUV. Sarah Levenson's surprisingly states never seeing the dog, Chloe, at the Albert's residence despite being friends with Brian Albert Jr. for many years.Katie McLaughlin, the female EMT who Jen McCabe stated Karen read said, "I hit him" three time in front of took the said. She also said that she heard Karen read say, "I hit him," but it was four times. Cross-examination by Alan Jackson focused on the timing of these statements and used dashcam video to break down these interactions and how her testimony does match up with what is happening on the video. Unfortunately, Jackson spent a majority of the time trying to get a "gotcha" moment by trying to prove that Katie McLaughlin and Caitlin Albert are close friends but he was unable to recreate that moment from the first trial due Special Prosecutor allowing Katie to explain her acquaintance relationship with Caitlin ahead of the Cross Examination. Jackson did manage to impeach Katie based on her words of first trial where she said that she knew of a girl by the name of Caitlin Albert that went to her school but that victory was short lived because he tried to being in picture evidence that kept being objected and sustained by Judge Cannone. Last witness of the day, Lt. Paul Gallagher, worked for the Canton Police Department at the time of the John O'Keefe's death and was the site supervisor. His testimony reveals issues with evidence handling and a lack of reports. It was his decision to use a leaf blower on the snow to uncover evidence, put blood found in the snow in Red Solo Cup and then transport them in Stop & Shop bags and found and handled the shattered drinking cocktail glass. Lt. Gallagher never wrote a report about his methods or even logged evidence with the blood he transferred. Questions about the chain of custody and why crucial information regarding Karen Read's statements was not relayed to the site supervisor. We also learn that Lieutenant Gallagher was not interviewed until just before the previous trial on April 3, 2024 by the Prosecution. We will resume with Cross Examination on Day 10. Karen Read's Defense Just Made Her Look GUILTIER! — More Epic Defense Fails! In this jaw-dropping courtroom moment from the Karen Read murder trial, we break down how the defense tried to discredit forensic evidence—only to make Karen Read look even guiltier. On May 5, 2025, retired Canton Police Lieutenant Paul Gallagher took the stand and walked the jury through the snowy, high-stakes crime scene where Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe's body was found. Gallagher's testimony painted a clear picture: brutal weather, rapid snow accumulation, and a decision to act fast to preserve what evidence they could. That included uncovering blood beneath the snow using a leaf blower—a detail the defense hoped would sound ridiculous but actually came across as a practical, field-based solution. And when Gallagher testified that he used red Solo cups to collect frozen blood samples before they were lost in the storm, the defense pounced. They mocked the method, harped on the lack of traditional evidence bags, and grilled him about chain of custody. But here's the problem: none of it landed. Gallagher stayed cool, explained every move, and reminded the jury that not collecting the blood would've meant losing it forever. Even worse for Karen Read, the defense's own questions reinforced that no other footprints, drag marks, or signs of struggle were found in the yard—just evidence pointing to someone being struck and left there. And while the defense spent time quibbling about Solo cups and grocery bags, they failed to present any evidence that the blood wasn't John O'Keefe's. In fact, their cross-examination may have done exactly what the prosecution wanted: highlight how much effort went into preserving the scene—and how little supports their client's innocence. Karen Read's Defense Just Made Her Look GUILTIER! — More Epic Defense Fails! In this jaw-dropping courtroom moment from the Karen Read murder trial, we break down how the defense tried to discredit forensic evidence—only to make Karen Read look even guiltier. On Day 9 of Karen Read's retrial, the prosecution presented testimony from several key witnesses to reinforce their narrative that Read struck her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, with her SUV and left him to die in the snow. Canton firefighter-paramedic Katie McLaughlin testified that upon arriving at the scene, she heard Read repeatedly say, “I hit him,” while appearing hysterical. McLaughlin also noted that Jennifer McCabe, a friend of Read and a key prosecution witness, attempted to calm Read down during this time. The defense questioned McLaughlin about her relationship with Caitlin Albert, whose father owned the home where O'Keefe's body was found, suggesting potential bias due to their past acquaintance.Retired Canton Police Lt. Paul Gallagher also took the stand, detailing his actions at the crime scene. He described using a leaf blower to clear snow and red plastic cups to collect what he believed was blood evidence, decisions he made due to the urgency of preserving potential evidence. The defense scrutinized Gallagher's methods, highlighting the lack of formal documentation and questioning the adequacy of his evidence collection techniques. Additionally, witnesses Ryan Nagel and Heather Maxon testified about their observations on the night of O'Keefe's death, stating they did not see anyone outside the home when they arrived. Toxicologist Hannah Knowles provided estimates of Read's blood alcohol content, suggesting it was significantly above the legal limit at the time of the incident, though the defense challenged the reliability of these retroactive calculations.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Canton, Massachusetts cop witness in Karen Read trial explains red Solo cup | Fox News

The Canadiens showed great resilience in a Game 3 home win, though injuries to both starting goalies could hurt Montreal more than Washington. Tom Wilson and Josh Anderson sparked chaos with a fight on the Caps bench, while the Oilers edged the Kings in a wild game with Cal Pickard in net. Evander Kane’s strong playoff return helped Edmonton capitalize on a costly Kings challenge, could it be series-altering? Meanwhile, Brandon Hagel received a one-game suspension, Tkachuk and Gallagher lead Ray’s chirp rankings, Ottawa faces fines and elimination after some pregame shenanigans, and Winnipeg must regroup fast after a tough Game 3 loss. South Bend Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Gallagher made his third professional start against the Beloit Sky Carp in a mid-afternoon game at a somewhat windy Four Winds Field. Gallagher came out sharp, retiring the first eight batters he faced consecutively before allowing an infield hit. That infield single eventually came around to score in the top of the third inning, tying the game at one apiece. The South Bend Cubs had gotten on the board early, plating a run in the bottom of the first. Jefferson Rojas led off with a single and later scored when Ariel Armas lined a base hit to left field for an RBI single off Beloit starter Jake Brooks. In the bottom of the third, the Cubs threatened again, loading the bases after Armas was hit by a pitch. Edgar Alvarez followed with a single over the infield, scoring Ivan Brethowr and Andy Garriola to give South Bend a 3–1 lead. Armas was thrown out at the plate trying to score on the same play, ending the rally. Gallagher kept the momentum going with a scoreless top of the fourth, but ran into trouble in the fifth. He gave up two runs before being replaced by reliever Joe Nahas. The Sky Carp tied the game at 3–3. In the top of the sixth, Nahas struggled early, allowing the first two batters to reach base. He then committed a balk, moving the runners to second and third with nobody out. Colby Shade doubled to right field, scoring Ryan Ignoffo and moving Yiddi Cappe to third, giving Beloit a 4–3 lead. Michael Snyder followed with a single to left field, scoring both Cappe and Shade to extend the Sky Carp lead to 6–3. After the damage, Nahas managed to get the Cubs out of the inning by inducing an inning-ending double play to stop the bleeding. In the top of the seventh, Johzan Oquendo came in to relieve Nahas. He walked the bases loaded but stood strong under pressure, managing to keep the Sky Carp from scoring any more runs and keeping the Cubs within striking distance. In the bottom of the eighth, the Cubs made a strong push, hitting two rockets, one of which was snagged in the outfield and the other stopped by a great play in the infield. The Cubs were unable to get anything going, as the Sky Carp defense held firm, preventing a rally from forming. In the top of the eighth, Cubs pitcher Sam Thoresen struck out the side, keeping the Cubs in the game. However, while warming up for the top of the ninth, something happened, forcing him to leave the game before he could pitch the inning. Marino Santy came in to relieve Thoresen but struggled, issuing a few walks. The Sky Carp capitalized, scoring a run to extend their lead to 7–3. The Cubs made a last-ditch effort in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs. However, a ground out ended the game, and the Sky Carp secured a 7–3 victory. On a positive note, Edgar Alvarez had his first multi-hit game of the season, showing promising signs of consistency at the plate. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

John is joined by Michael Gottlieb, partner in the Washington D.C. office of Wilkie Farr & Gallagher, and Nicholas Reddick, partner in the San Francisco office of Wilkie Farr & Gallagher. They discuss the landmark $1.1 billion judgment Michael and Nicholas obtained against the Islamic Republic of Iran, on behalf of U.S. service members and civilians harmed by Iran-backed terrorist groups and the legal framework for suing state sponsors of terrorism and private organizations that support them. Claims against sovereign states are based upon the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA). FSIA claims require plaintiffs to prove that the foreign sovereign materially supported acts of terrorism, often through militia groups operating in conflict zones. The process is complex and time-consuming. Although Iran never appears to defend these cases, plaintiffs must still prove liability and damages with admissible evidence, often obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests, military reports, and expert testimony. Because such judgments are rarely enforceable against Iran's frozen or inaccessible assets, successful plaintiffs must seek compensation through the U.S. Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Fund, which draws from congressional appropriations and settlements from unrelated sanctions violations. Payments from the fund are made annually and prorated based on judgment size, but disbursements have been inconsistent. Recent developments, including circuit court rulings and a pending Supreme Court case, may reshape key legal standards for FSIA claims, such as the requirement of an actual death for certain terrorism-related claims. Several new legislative efforts seek to expand the cases that may be brought under the FSIA and increase the funds allocated for compensating victims. Claims against private entities such as banks, contractors or companies that evaded sanctions rely upon the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Many such cases are currently being litigated. ATA claims require proof of the defendant's material support and knowledge of terrorist outcomes. The defendants in ATA cases are likely to appear to defend against the claims, but only after the plaintiffs navigate complex issues of jurisdiction and service of process.Podcast Link: Law-disrupted.fmHost: John B. Is it enough to champion biblical principles without knowing the God behind them? What happens when thousands of leaders—Christian and non-Christian alike—gather around biblical principles to reimagine the future of Western civilization? Today, Katherine Gallagher takes us behind the scenes of the rapidly growing Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) conference in London to find out. Founded by Jordan Peterson and others, ARC set itself up as an alternative to the World Economic Forum; ARC is tapping into a global hunger for truth, meaning, and renewal. But again, can principles alone bring lasting change without the Person behind them?Main TopicsPrinciples vs. Person – Exploring the tension between shared moral values and the need for spiritual transformation through ChristJordan Peterson's emphasis on self-sacrificial servant leadership but lack of open faith in the Sustainer of these virtuesBiblical principles work whether people acknowledge their divine source or notSustainable transformation requires both good ideas and changed heartsCultural or civilizational transformation requires both biblical ideas and transformed hearts; as Katherine put it, "Truth is a person, not just principles."View the transcript, leave comments, and check out recommended resources on the Episode Landing Page!Learn More about 10 Words to Heal Our Broken World
