Links The Art of Gathering, by Priya Parker Share your thoughts in the Leading Saints community Read the transcript of this podcast Get 14-day access to the Core Leader Library Highlights Adam reflects on his three years as elders quorum president, recalling the initial challenge of revitalizing a stagnant quorum after the pandemic. His quorum includes a diverse mix of young adults and seniors, which made fostering meaningful connections essential. To lead effectively, Adam prioritized creating a safe space for open discussions, believing connection must come before impactful gospel instruction. He shares practical strategies, such as beginning meetings with personal check-ins and setting ground rules to encourage trust and honesty. These efforts helped members feel heard and valued. The discussion shifts to ministering, where Adam stresses the importance of building personal connections during interviews. Instead of administrative check-ins, he promotes genuine conversations about members' lives to create a culture of support and vulnerability. Adam also introduced interest-based activities outside regular meetings, which strengthened camaraderie. Additionally, informal tools like WhatsApp have kept members connected and supported between gatherings, enhancing the sense of community. 04:10 - Adam's Location and Temple Proximity 05:17 - Adam's Profession and Role 06:02 - Adam's Experience as Elders Quorum President 07:06 - Challenges of Reintegrating After COVID 08:02 - Demographics of the Quorum 08:59 - Meeting Locations and Challenges 09:46 - Initial Steps as Elders Quorum President 10:50 - Focus on Ministering Assignments 12:05 - Building Connection and Unity 13:10 - Moving from Ideal to Reality in Lessons 18:30 - Importance of Vulnerability in Discussions 20:12 - Engaging Different Groups in Lessons 24:51 - Real-Life Example: Discussing Blessings 30:01 - Connection Precedes Meaningful Instruction 30:44 - Creating Ground Rules for Safety 35:03 - Connection Outside Sunday Meetings 39:58 - Interest-Based Micro Groups 40:33 - Managing Activities and Engagement 41:22 - Using WhatsApp for Communication 44:40 - Ministering to the Ministers 47:51 - Conclusion and Final Thoughts The award-winning Leading Saints Podcast is one of the top independent Latter-day Saints podcasts as part of nonprofit Leading Saints' mission to help Latter-day Saints be better prepared to lead. Ministering To The Lord || Acts: The Story Continues || 2025
How is God at work amid ongoing fighting since Russia's invasion of Ukraine? Eric Mock, from the Slavic Gospel Association, wants to remind us that the gospel is going forth as Christians stay faithful to serve the Lord in spite of difficulties and hardship. He'll share stories of Ukrainian pastors who kept up their ministries, even with Russian tanks outside their homes. The Slavic Gospel Association (SGA) started in 1934, built on a foundation of prayer with a heart to reach those behind the Iron Curtain with the gospel. One of the ministry's early effort was a dictation-speed recitation of the Bible broadcast over shortwave radio—allowing believers in Russia and other Soviet nations to create their own hand-written Bibles. (The Voice of the Martyrs has a similar broadcast reaching into North Korea today.) Hear more about SGA's history and how the Lord brought Eric to serve there in 2002 to support local churches and other ministries in 13 countries. He will describe how the fall of the Iron Curtain led to revival but then how consumerism later lessened revival fires. Eric challenges all of us to see the examples of our brothers and sisters in Ukraine who are ministering and risking their lives for the sake of the gospel. Pray that the gospel would continue to go forth in Russia, Ukraine and other nations in the region, and that Christians would stay faithful through hardship. The VOM App for your smartphone or tablet will help you pray daily for persecuted Christians throughout the year, as well as giving free access to e-books, audio books, video content and feature films. Two questions plagued the Jews when Jesus had his earthly ministry: Who is this man and who did he come for? Of course, these are the same questions that people wrestle with today. The Jews thought that Jesus was just a good teacher, if that. Perhaps he was just a misguided carpenter from Nazareth that…

Today, we're doing something a little different! For the first time ever on the show, I'm sharing a sermon I preached at my church over a year ago. Now, before you think, Oh no, a sermon?- stick with me. Over the last couple of years, I've received countless messages from listeners who are feeling isolated, lonely, and disconnected. And I think this message is incredibly timely. The loneliness epidemic is real, and it's affecting so many of us, especially in the wake of declining church attendance and increasing feelings of disconnection. In this sermon, I dive deep into what the Bible says about loneliness and how the church can be a source of support and community for those feeling alone. So, whether you're currently struggling with isolation, have stepped away from the church, or are curious about what the Bible says on the topic, I hope this message resonates with you! 4:22 – Introduction • 1 Corinthians 12 • Issues the Corinthian church faced • Paul's message to the church 13:15 – Every Gift Matters: Serving In The Body Of Christ • The church is the body of Christ • 1 Peter 4:10 • Being good stewards of our gifts • There is no hierarchy of gifts 24:26 – The Pandemic Of Loneliness • 50% of American adults feel lonely • The role of community in overcoming loneliness • We can be lonely with God 35:14 – Love in Action: Building a Stronger Community Through God's Love • Community is a byproduct of love • Being intentional alongside others • Ministering to someone else FEATURED QUOTES “The church cannot and should not be established on the charisma or the personality or the giftings of any one person. The church is to be built on the foundation of Jesus Christ.” “Some gifts may bear more responsibility and consequences than others, but you have gifts, and those gifts matter.” “We create these dividing lines between us based on our gifts or our roles or status or economics or whatever. And those lines are unbiblical, they're unnecessary, and they lead to chaos.” “Our primary goal must be the love of and pursuit of Jesus, who is the lifeblood of the body.”
