The gap between an idea and action is often smaller than we think. Jim Kwik believes one question can help close it: "What's the tiniest action you can take today to move closer to your goal?" In this episode of Why Not Now?, Amy Jo Martin sits down with brain coach, entrepreneur, founder of Kwik Learning, and New York Times bestselling author Jim Kwik to explore motivation, identity, memory, focus, and how to stay mentally sharp in an AI-driven world. The conversation draws from the ideas behind Jim's upcoming book, Limitless Daily, which offers 366 bite-sized practices to help readers train their brains, sharpen their focus, and create lasting change through small, consistent actions. Jim shares the deeply personal story of a near-fatal car accident that forced him to reevaluate what he wanted to leave behind - and ultimately led him to write the book that millions of readers now know as Limitless. From there, Amy and Jim unpack the hidden beliefs that keep people stuck, why knowledge alone isn't power, and what it takes to bridge the gap between knowing and doing. Together, they explore Jim's framework for lasting change, including the roles of mindset, motivation, and methods, as well as the power of purpose, energy, and small, simple steps. They also discuss the growing challenge of protecting human intelligence in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, algorithms, distraction, and information overload. In this conversation, you'll learn: How to overcome limiting beliefs and identity gaps Why purpose, energy, and small steps drive sustainable motivation The difference between inspiration, ideation, and implementation How AI can enhance—not replace—human intelligence Why "mind before media" may be one of the most important habits for focus, learning, and performance If you've ever struggled to move an idea into action, this episode offers practical wisdom for building momentum, strengthening your mindset, and taking the next step. Using the story of her first childbirth, a 52-hour labor that taught her the power of choosing how to respond to difficult circumstances, she argues that while people cannot control many of life's challenges, they can control their perspective. Rachel explains the science behind negativity bias, cognitive distortions, and the brain's tendency to focus on threats, emphasizing that thoughts are not facts and that mindfulness can help people separate themselves from unhelpful thinking patterns. She advocates for practical habits such as daily gratitude journaling, regulating self-talk, limiting negative social media influences, and moving the body regularly, citing research suggesting that a significant portion of happiness comes from intentional actions rather than life circumstances. Ultimately, she encourages listeners to view positivity as a daily practice of returning to gratitude, resilience, and hope, even in the midst of hardship, rather than as a form of denial or “toxic positivity.” Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Your brain isn't broken, lazy, or “addicted to the internet” in some mysterious way. It's doing what it evolved to do: chase rewards, seek safety, and size up social status using a handful of powerful chemicals. We sit down with Loretta Breuning, author of *Habits of a Happy Brain*, to translate dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and cortisol into real life, especially the messy reality of raising kids while trying to stay grounded yourself. We talk about dopamine as the feeling of “I'm about to get something I need,” why that shows up as scrolling, snacking, or shopping, and how to replace one narrow dopamine source with healthier options. Loretta also explains mirror neurons and why kids mirror what we do when we're stressed, soothed, proud, or checked out. If you want children to build a calmer relationship with technology, the starting point is often modeling what balanced use looks like, including intentional breaks and clear stop points. From there we dig into serotonin as the fast, fleeting “I'm winning” signal that drives social comparison for adults and kids alike, plus oxytocin as the reward of earned trust rather than instant connection. We close with cortisol, your brain's built-in reverse gear, and why a 20-minute cooldown can beat any lecture in the middle of a blowup. If you're looking for practical brain science, parenting tools, and a more realistic definition of happiness, hit play, then subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a quick review so more parents can find it.Connect with LorettaGet your free 5-day happy chemical jumpstart here, or visit Loretta on Facebook, Instagram, and X.Welcome to Speak Out Stand Out — the show where we build confidence in our future, one voice at a time. Most triathlon training focuses on physiology and skills. Dr. David Spindler argues that the brain is the missing piece, and that you can (and should) train your brain to better process pressure, adapt under stress, and execute under fatigue. This episode will teach you how to do this. Dr. David Spindler is a neuroscientist and cognitive performance specialists who has worked with athletes at the very highest level (including with Sir Mark Cavendish, Sam Laidlow, Chelsea Sodaro, Katie Courtney, and Tom Evans) and across sports from cycling, triathlon and trail running through soccer and Formula 1. HIGHLIGHTS AND KEY TOPICS: The brain's central role in athletic performance: coordination, decision-making, focus, emotional regulation, fatigue perception, and recovery. Allostatic load: why amateur triathletes carry far more cognitive stress than professionals, and how to account for it in training. How the brain controls pacing, and why perceived effort rises and the efficiency of firing muscles drops when the brain decides an effort isn't sustainable. Self-efficacy vs. confidence: why they are different, and how to address a lack of self-efficacy as a triathlete. Self-regulation: why understanding how your brain and body behave under stress matters, and how poor self-regulation undermines both triathlon training and the athlete-coach relationship. Joy and happiness as recovery tools: why they are the most effective mediators of cortisol, and how to find joy and happiness in training and life (it's not the same as dopamine hits) DETAILED EPISODE SHOWNOTES: We have detailed shownotes for all of our episodes. What if you could actually train your brain to perform better… no matter your age, background, or current memory struggles? This week, Mitch Matthews sits down with 6-time USA Memory Champion, world-record holder, speaker, and bestselling author for a fascinating (and wildly practical) conversation on how to train your brain for peak performance. And here's the surprising part: Nelson says he wasn't born with a "super brain." In fact, he considered himself completely average growing up. Everything changed when Nelson watched his grandmother battle Alzheimer's disease. That painful experience sparked a deep curiosity about memory, brain health, and cognitive performance - and ultimately launched him into the world of elite memory competitions. Today, he helps people all over the world improve their focus, sharpen their memory, remember names, and unlock more of their mental potential. In this powerful conversation, Nelson breaks down the simple (but surprisingly effective) strategies anyone can use to train your brain, improve memory, and strengthen mental performance in the age of AI and endless distraction. This episode is packed with practical tools, fascinating stories, and hope-filled reminders that your brain is far more adaptable and trainable than you might think. And honestly? The timing for this conversation couldn't be better. Read the full show notes: https://mitchmatthews.com/454

I'd love to hear from you 'text the show'WelcomeWelcome back to the Treat Your Business podcast. This week I'm doing something a little different with a short, sharp, high value episode you can listen to quickly, then get straight back to your busy clinical day.Episode summaryIn this episode I'm talking about why growth can feel messy, uncomfortable, and anything but linear, and why that is completely normal when you start properly working on your business. I share what I see in clinic owners who grow revenue, profit, and freedom, versus those who stay stuck, and I walk you through the first step in your roadmap to results: training your brain for growth.I cover two common destructive thoughts that shut down progress, then show you how to flip them into productive questions that help your brain find solutions. I also share a vulnerable story from Clinic Growth Live that highlights how mindset and openness to learning can change what you take from any room, training, or coaching.Key TakeawaysProgress is rarely linear. Growth can get messy when you start changing pricing, systems, team structure, and decision making.Resilience matters. Humility, courage, self compassion, patience, humour, and a willingness to experiment help you move through the hard bits instead of retreating to what feels safe.Catch the thought “I know this already.” When I believe I already know something, I disengage and stop learning.Replace it with: What can I learn from this? Ask it with genuine curiosity, again and again.Catch the thought “This won't work for me.” That belief shuts down possibility before I even try.Replace it with: How can this work for me? Repeating this question forces me to look for adaptations, opportunities, and new connections.Hearing something before is not the same as mastering it. Knowing something intellectually is different from doing it consistently and benefiting from it.My brain filters what I notice through my beliefs and mindset, so the questions I ask determine what I see and what I act on.Resources and linksQuote referenced: Shirley Chisholm, “You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.”Questions to practise this week:What can I learn from this? How can this work for me?If things feel messy right now, I want you to know you're not failing, you're in it, and it is normal. Start with the first step: train your brain for growth by asking better questions. I'll be back next week as we continue building your roadmap to results.Treat Your Business podcast is proudly sponsored by MBST, the groundbreaking technology revolutionising recovery and rehabilitation. Ramon Vela sits down with Dan Kessler, COO of The Mind Company, for a conversation that starts with a sobering question: what's actually happening to the human brain right now and what can we do about it? The Mind Company is the only company in the world to win App of the Year twice, from both Apple and Google, and with three distinct apps — Elevate, Balance, and Spark — it's quietly building one of the most compelling mental fitness platforms in the world. * The data behind the mental fitness crisis. Average attention spans have dropped from two and a half minutes to just 47 seconds in the last two decades. IQs are declining. Critical thinking is being outsourced to AI. Dan breaks down the numbers and why the stakes have never been higher. * Three apps, one mission. Elevate sharpens cognitive skills through brain training games. Balance delivers highly personalized meditation, mindfulness, and sleep support. And Spark, the newest app, is a daily puzzle experience for curious people who want to learn something new every single day. * Human creativity in a world of AI shortcuts. In an app store flooded with AI-generated products, The Mind Company builds everything with human editors, writers, and designers. Dan makes the case that judgment, taste, and creativity can't be automated and The Mind Company is proof. * The right framework beats founder mode. Dan shares his management philosophy: give people responsibility before they've earned it, build clear decision-making frameworks, and trust your team to grow. It's how he's built every company he's been a part of. * Mental fitness is the superpower nobody is talking about. Whether you're a founder, a parent, or just trying to stay sharp in a distracted world, Dan's message is clear: take care of your brain the way you take care of your body — and start now. Join us in listening to this episode for a fascinating and genuinely thought-provoking conversation about the state of the human mind, what mental fitness actually means, and why the apps The Mind Company has built might be the most important ones on your phone. Today we dive into what is commonly known as the “placebo effect” and the power our brain has to shape our beliefs and reality. And of course the way we experience our reality shapes our identity, relationships, and the stories we tell ourselves. What happens when your expectations begin shaping your reality? Can the mind actually influence pain, healing, confidence, and even the way we experience love and suffering? And what do the placebo and nocebo effects reveal about the way we move through life?In this conversation, we unpack the psychology behind belief—how our thoughts, labels, and internal narratives can either move us toward freedom or quietly trap us in cycles of fear, dysfunction, addiction, and relational pain. Are we becoming what we believe about ourselves?Together we explore how expectation impacts everything from mental health to marriage, addiction recovery, emotional resilience, and spiritual growth. We discuss the tension between acknowledging pain without becoming defined by it, why suffering can either transform us or imprison us, and how unhealthy relationships are often sustained by hope rooted more in fantasy than reality. If you've ever struggled with negative thinking, unhealthy relational patterns, addiction, hopelessness, or feeling trapped by labels placed on you by others—or by yourself—this episode is an invitation to rethink the narratives shaping your life.Dr. Karin & Pastor Elliott AndersonWebsite: http://loveandlifemedia.com/Empowered Dating Playbook: smarturl.it/EmpoweredDatingBookInstagram: @dr.karin | @pastorelliottanderson

Cognitive decline is no longer just a concern for older adults—rates are rising even in people under 40. So, what can we do today to protect our brains for the long term?In this episode, Dr. Tere Linzey, educational psychologist and founder of BrainMatterz, introduces a powerful concept in neuroscience: cognitive reserve—the brain's ability to adapt, strengthen, and protect itself against decline. We explore how targeted cognitive training can improve focus, memory, and processing speed while building long-term resilience against conditions like Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Linzey also shares how her BrainCardZ system works to activate multiple brain regions—including the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and anterior cingulate cortex—to create a true “full-brain workout.”We also dive into the impact of modern technology and AI on brain health, why making mistakes is essential for learning, and how to train your brain like a muscle—at any age.If you care about longevity, performance, and protecting your mind, this is a conversation you don't want to miss.Learn more at https://www.brainmatterz.com/BUY Measuring Up! In this solo episode, Matt explores the concept of gratitude and appreciation, and why these simple practices can have such a powerful impact on how we think, feel, and experience the world. We all have an inbuilt negativity bias. It's how the brain is wired. But in today's world, that bias is being amplified. Social media, constant information, and polarised narratives are widening the gap between perception and reality. This episode breaks down how gratitude can help rebalance that system. In this episode, Matt explores:Why the brain is wired to focus on the negative How modern life and social media amplify that negativity bias The gap between perception and reality, and why it matters How gratitude and appreciation influence neurology and physiology How shifting attention can literally change your experience of the world Practical ways to build gratitude into your daily routine How to “hack your algorithm” to see more of what is good This episode is about more than just feeling positive. It's about training your brain to notice what is already there, and in doing so, improving your health, your mood, and your performance. If you have a question for the podcast or are interested in working with Matt, you can reach out at: • Email: info@wellnesseducationdubai.com • Website: www.wellnesseducationdubai.com • Instagram: @wellness_education_dubai • Facebook: @mattmarneyfitness • LinkedIn: Matt Marney (Wellness Education Dubai)

Nick and Lara discuss why mental conditioning for leaders is no longer optional, how the neuroscience of threat and reward state directly impacts team performance, and why emotional regulation and self-awareness are now non-negotiable leadership skills. They also explore why the brain needs off-task time to generate its best ideas, the critical role of rest and recovery in avoiding burnout, and how physical challenge builds the same neural pathways as professional resilience. The discussion highlights the importance of the mind-body connection in leadership, the dangers of back-to-back meeting culture, and how leaders can use the SCARF model to keep their teams in a reward state and performing at their peak.In a world shaped by complexity, distraction, and burnout, this episode examines the practical leadership performance tools every HR and L&D professional needs in 2026, including how to manage energy strategically, set boundaries with confidence, and build a high-performing mindset from the inside out.A must-listen for HR leaders, L&D professionals, and anyone ready to stop surviving and start thriving in both their professional and personal lives.Enjoyed this? Why do some people seem to find good in everything… while others feel stuck focusing on what's wrong? In this episode of Mental Health School, we explore a powerful principle that can completely shift the way you experience life: The Universal Law of Polarity. The Law of Polarity teaches that everything contains both positive and negative aspects.Nothing is entirely good.Nothing is entirely bad.Every experience, relationship, circumstance, and opportunity contains both sides of the spectrum. But here's the key:Your mental health improves dramatically when you train your mind to look for the beneficial side.Inside this episode, we explore:•What the Law of Polarity is and how it influences your mindset•Why your brain naturally focuses on negative aspects of experiences•How shifting your focus changes your emotional state and energy•Why “seeking the good” is a skill you can train•How to apply polarity thinking to relationships, work, social media, and daily lifeWe'll also walk through a guided affirmation exercise designed to help you recondition your mind to look for benefits within every experience.Because when you change what you look for…You change what you see.And when you change what you see…You change how you feel about your life.Welcome back to Mental Health School, where we rewire, rebuild, and recondition our beliefs so we can become active participants — and creators — in our lives.
Marcus Aurelius had a morning routine. Neuroscience just proved why it worked. The ruler of the most powerful empire in the ancient world spent every morning doing something that neuroscience has spent thirty years documenting. He was not managing his emotions. He was training the neural architecture that determined how his emotions arose in the first place. Here is what he was actually doing and why the first twenty minutes of your day are the most neurologically consequential twenty minutes you have.Inside this episode, you'll learn how to: Understand why your morning sets your entire neural baseline Use cognitive reappraisal to change emotional responses before they happen Strengthen the prefrontal cortex so you respond instead of react Reduce amygdala-driven reactivity at the source (not suppress it) Apply a simple, repeatable daily practice that rewires how you lead under pressure Build a brain that generates clarity, not chaos This is the difference between:Trying to stay calm……and becoming someone who doesn't need to try.Because this work isn't about control. It's about architecture.Your Next Steps:Watch the free masterclass: https://therewiredwoman.com/playbook/Website: https://therewiredwoman.com/Connect on Social: https://www.instagram.com/rewired.woman/Connect on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rewiredglobal-fernanda/Corporations interested in working with Rewired Global: https://rewiredglobal.com/corporates/
In this episode of Memoirs of an LDS Servant Teacher Podcast, we explore a powerful truth: you can plan what you think—and with practice, completely transform your mental patterns. This episode dives into the difference between simply noticing your thoughts and actively training your brain through intentional drills and repetition. Most men trying to quit porn are fighting the wrong battle. They think the solution is more discipline, more willpower, more control. But if you've ever found yourself asking “Why can't I stop watching porn?” or “Why do I keep relapsing?”—this episode will challenge everything you think you know about porn addiction recovery.Because the real issue isn't just behavior. It's your nervous system. In today's world of constant stimulation—social media, processed food, endless entertainment, and porn—our brains have become overstimulated and undertrained. We've lost our ability to handle discomfort, and as a result, we turn to quick dopamine hits just to feel okay. That's why porn cravings feel so strong, and why so many men struggle to break free.In this episode, I teach you a different approach. We're not just talking about quitting porn—we're talking about rewiring your brain, regulating your nervous system, and building real, lasting resilience.I break down the neuroscience of dopamine and addiction, explain why your brain is wired to seek relief through porn, and show you how to reduce porn cravings naturally by training your body and mind to handle discomfort. And most importantly, I give you practical tools you can start using immediately:How cold exposure (cold plunges, cold showers) helps regulate dopamine and build disciplineWhy heat exposure (sauna, exercise) strengthens your nervous system and increases resilienceSimple breathwork techniques you can use to calm anxiety, reduce urges, and take control in the momentHow to shift from instant gratification to delayed gratification and rebuild motivationWhy your cravings aren't the problem—and how to finally understand what's driving themThis episode will help you understand:Why porn addiction is deeply connected to nervous system dysregulationHow overstimulation is creating brain fog, low motivation, and stronger urgesThe real reason you feel like you “need” porn—and how to break that patternHow to build a lifestyle that naturally supports focus, clarity, and self-controlIf you're tired of relying on willpower… If you're ready to stop escaping and start leading your life…This episode will give you a completely new framework for how to quit porn and take back control of your mind.Link to Blog Article for this EpisodeFor a complete collection of all recovery tools and training, visit nomoredesire.com/tools. Episode DescriptionThis archival conversation with Jim Kwik moves beyond memory tricks and into something more fundamental: how we think, learn, and make decisions.Jim breaks down why most people forget nearly everything they read, why repeating the same mistakes isn't always about logic, and how modern life is quietly degrading attention and memory. He explains how the brain filters information, how habits form, and why focus—not intelligence—is often the real differentiator.James pushes the conversation into practical territory: decision-making, fear, performance, and building a life around what actually matters. Together, they explore frameworks for improving memory, reducing distraction, and making better choices—along with the deeper idea that learning is the core skill behind everything else. This episode isn't just about remembering more. The problem with normal people and businesses, they're trying to execute 95% of the time, but they're not doing the preparation they need." You can train your body. You can sharpen your skills. You can stack strategies and systems. But if your brain can't process information fast enough under pressure, you'll always feel like you're catching up. High performers don't rely on motivation alone. They rely on preparation. John Kennedy argues that mental processing speed is the hidden advantage in business, sports, and leadership. When the brain becomes faster and more efficient, decision-making sharpens, stress decreases, and confidence rises. From Marines in combat to professional athletes breaking records, the common thread isn't mindset theory—it's neurological training. John is the founder of Combat Brain Training, a performance system originally developed for the military and now used by entrepreneurs, surgeons, and elite competitors. His work focuses on increasing processing speed, strengthening neural connections, and building cognitive anticipation—what most people simply call intuition. When the brain improves, everything downstream improves with it. Expert action steps: Spend structured time training your brain, not just consuming information. Measure your cognitive performance regularly (track processing speed). Prioritize preparation over constant execution—build habits that automate performance. The human brain isn't actually a muscle, as a lot of people think. But nevertheless we still need to give it exercise to keep it healthy. While you can go to the gym to work out the muscles in your body, the equivalent for the brain is training and stimulating something called "brain plasticity”. Verywellmind.com says that plasticity “refers to the brain's malleability or ability to change”. And it's definitely worth working to improve it too, as it can give cognitive performance a real boost. Are you saying improving brain plasticity makes you smarter? What kind of exercises can I do to improve those then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the last episodes, you can click here: How often should you wash your jeans? Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, shares a lot of ideas on generating happiness. One of my favorites is about novelty, trying something new, and the right level of challenge. Dana Wilde, author of Train Your Brain, is know for saying feel good first then take intentional action to be successful. For a long time, I've put those two things together to create a personal happiness formula, but I recently modified it to this: Novelty + Challenge = Happiness Happiness x Community + Intentional Action = Success Listen in to today's episode for more and you'll also have the opportunity to weigh in on the success of my recent 'trying something new' card project.
You are not afraid of public speaking. You're afraid of being judged, rejected, embarrassed, or getting it wrong. In this episode, John Assaraf, entrepreneur, brain performance researcher, and founder of MyNeuroGym, breaks down what's happening inside your brain when fear, anxiety, procrastination, or self-doubt kick in, why 95% of what we think, feel, and do is automatic, and how to interrupt those patterns without relying on willpower. We talk about rewiring habits, strengthening your “neuromuscles,” why stress chemicals only last 90 seconds if you don't feed them, and how to rewire your “Frankenstein brain” into your “Einstein brain.” Get ready to rewire the patterns that have been running your life on autopilot. In This Episode You Will Learn Why NO ONE is truly afraid of public speaking. The “FRANKENSTEIN BRAIN vs. EINSTEIN BRAIN” model for understanding fear and self-sabotage. The 90-SECOND RULE for calming stress and anxiety in real time. Why WILLPOWER fades after 3–4 PM. The “Take 6” BREATHING TECHNIQUE to instantly reset your nervous system. Why your brain remembers negative experiences 10X FASTER than positive ones. The 3-to-1 POSITIVITY RATIO to override automatic negative thoughts.
