Show Notes: Notes, references, freebies, and recommendations from this episode can be found here - https://www.morriswellnessservices.com/blog/184 Plastic is one of the most normalized sources of endocrine disruptors in modern life. It's in food storage containers, water bottles, canned goods, non-stick cookware, and takeout packaging. But plastic is not chemically inert. Under certain conditions, the additives used to make plastic durable, flexible, or heat-resistant can migrate into the food and drinks we consume daily. In this episode, we break down how chemicals like BPA, BPS, phthalates, and PFAS move from plastic products into your body. You'll learn how heat, fat, acidity, and time increase chemical migration, why ingestion is the most significant exposure route, and how these compounds act as hormone imposters once inside the body. We discuss how plastic-related endocrine disruptors can: Mimic estrogen Lower progesterone Interfere with thyroid signaling Increase insulin resistance Contribute to fertility challenges Add to metabolic dysfunction This conversation also explains why women are particularly vulnerable due to hormonal cycling, pregnancy, postpartum shifts, and fat tissue storage. Most importantly, we cover practical, non-extreme changes that lower exposure in your kitchen, including avoiding heating plastic, switching to glass storage, replacing damaged non-stick cookware, and being strategic with canned foods and bottled water. Reducing plastic exposure lowers endocrine load. But removing interference is only the first step. Restoring hormone balance requires rebuilding metabolic function intentionally. This episode is part of the Endocrine Disruptor Series, where we explore the everyday exposures quietly impacting women's health and what to do about them with clarity and strategy. In this episode, Alissa returns to the podcast to share what life looks like 8 years after her daughter Anna was stillborn. If you want her full story, go back and listen to Episode #52 — we recorded that one 2.5 years ago, and hearing the evolution between then and now is powerful. We talk honestly about grief life then vs now, how pain shifts but never disappears, and what it looks like to rebuild identity, perspective, and purpose after loss. Alissa opens up about parenting after stillbirth, navigating layered grief after losing her sister the year before Anna, and the unexpected “gifts” our babies leave behind — even when the journey is brutally hard. If you're newly walking this path, this episode offers real perspective on how things can change over time… while still honoring the parts that never will. And if you're wondering how to keep your baby present as the years move forward, her insight is deeply grounding. Alissa has always been incredibly transparent, and I'm so grateful our paths crossed early in my own journey.

This week Nicola and Di chat with the remarkable and entertaining Claire Parkinson. Claire began her career as a Prison Officer in the UK, working at the frontlines of human dynamics at their most intense. At 30 years of age she became the Head Of Operations for all prisons and probation in London, overseeing 9000 staff and 33,000 inmates! From there Claire had an opportunity to move to Australia and work in the prison system in Adelaide before stepping into the mining sector where she helped lead a $9.6billion dollar merger between 2 major global corporations. Claire has written a hilarious memoir, Shitty Grit, which captures the remarkable journey that has shaped her. In this episode we hear about Claire’s early life, growing up in social housing in the UK and what it was like to find out at 16 that she was 18 weeks pregnant. Claire shares about the tough time she went through trying to raise a child, when she was just a child herself, and the wild years that followed when she moved back in with her parents and started playing catch-up on the partying she'd missed out on as a teenager. After a sliding doors moment where she had to choose between being a flight attendant or a prison officer, Claire chose the latter. She tells us about the fascinating world of prisons and how she was assigned one of Britain’s most notorious child killers as her inmate when she first began her career. The stories she tells us of those prison days are pretty incredible, and we hope you love getting an insight into a world that most of us know nothing about. We also talk about Claire’s move to Australia and how she was able to transition into the world of mining and lead a huge global merger. When you hear about the way Claire’s determination and initiative have led to incredible opportunities in her life, you can’t help but be inspired. Talk about a woman who’s been through a lot of shit and has a lot of grit! We laughed so much throughout this chat and we hope you’ll find it as entertaining as we did. Pregnant and suddenly told you need an X-ray? A CT scan? An MRI? Or wondering if that routine facial, laser treatment, or Botox appointment is still safe? In this episode of Mamadoc BabyDoc, we break down what really happens when medical or cosmetic procedures come up during pregnancy—and how to separate fear from facts. We talk through common imaging studies, including ultrasound, MRI, CT scans, X-rays, and nuclear medicine tests. When are they safe? When are they avoided? And what does the actual evidence say about radiation exposure and fetal risk? We also dive into med spa and cosmetic procedures during pregnancy—facials, Botox, fillers, laser treatments, and more. Which treatments are considered low risk, which should wait, and why "elective" doesn't always mean harmless. This episode is grounded in science, not myths—no shame, no scare tactics, just clear explanations to help you make informed decisions if you need care during pregnancy. Whether you're navigating an unexpected medical issue or just trying to plan your self-care safely, this episode will give you the tools to ask the right questions and advocate for yourself and your baby.

SHOW NOTES: https://www.morriswellnessservices.com/blog/183 Fragrance is one of the most common endocrine disruptors in modern homes, and most women are exposed to it daily without realizing it. In this episode, we explain what “fragrance” actually means on ingredient labels and how synthetic scent chemicals can affect hormone balance, thyroid function, fertility, metabolism, and the nervous system. You'll learn how fragrance chemicals enter the body through inhalation and skin contact, why they can mimic estrogen, and how they may contribute to symptoms like PMS, infertility, migraines, anxiety, and stubborn weight gain. We also break down where fragrance hides, including laundry detergent, dryer sheets, candles, plug-ins, cleaning products, trash bags, and personal care items. If you've been searching for answers about endocrine disruptors, hormone imbalance, clean living, fragrance safety, thyroid health, or how to create a fragrance-free home, this episode will give you practical clarity without fear or overwhelm. DHS Secretary Noem makes a high-profile visit to San Diego. Plus, an investigation examines why the Trump Administration is transferring unaccompanied pregnant minors to Texas. Finally, a local curling club offers classes for beginners.
The Trump administration is making changes to how it treats unaccompanied migrant children who are pregnant, and that's raising alarm bells inside the government. Since last July, the administration has been concentrating pregnant kids in one shelter in South Texas, even if they're apprehended in California or other states. This comes over objections from the government's own health and child welfare officials. They say neither the facility nor the region can provide the specialized care the girls need. When I first found out I was expecting I was completely terrified. I thought my career was going to be completely derailed. Throughout the process I gained my confidence and went on to have an unmedicated birth and receive a promotion that same year. I am now pregnant with my second and walking in that same confidence. It has not been easy but I have found strength in the journey and I am the better for it. I would love to share my lows and the tools I used to get to where I am now. In this episode, I'm answering your questions — the real ones. The ones you sent me quietly on Instagram. The ones that sit heavy in your chest at 2am. We're talking about: – Have I actually found joy again… without constantly thinking my baby should be here? – How to handle not getting grace from the people around us – What to do when you feel like your body failed you – Navigating strained relationships after stillbirth – Trying to conceive again (TTC) and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it – Regrets about hospital decisions and the “what ifs” that won't let go – Pregnancy after loss (PAL) and living in two realities at once – The anger that comes with feeling like you have to “start over” Nothing is off limits here. I share what this has looked like in my own life — the messy middle, the guilt, the growth, the perspective shifts that took years to land. I don't offer perfect answers, because there aren't any. But I do offer honesty. If you've ever wondered whether joy is allowed… If you've wrestled with resentment toward your body… If your relationships changed and you don't recognize them anymore… If you're TTC again while terrified… This episode is for you. You're not dramatic. You're not broken. You're grieving. And I'm right here with you. ❤️
Exercise during pregnancy has long been encouraged, but clear guidance on what actually drives measurable physiological benefits has often been inconsistent. Episode 6 of The Research Debrief unpacks a newly published systematic review and meta-analysis from the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology examining how structured exercise training during pregnancy impacts maternal biomarkers. The conversation moves beyond general outcomes and dives into what the latest science says about inflamation, metabolism, hormones and immune function — and what that means for fitness operators serving pregnant members. This Episode Explores: - A new systematic review and meta-analysis examining how exercise training during pregnancy impacts maternal biomarkers - Why combining aerobic and resistance training produces the strongest physiological benefits - How moderate to vigorous intensity exercise influences inflammatory, metabolic and hormonal markers - The importance of program duration — and why interventions longer than 12 weeks matter - Practical guidelines for structuring prenatal programs in health club settings This episode provides operators with evidence-based clarity on how to confidently program for pregnant members, highlighting that structured, longer-duration aerobic and strength training can positively influence key maternal health markers — creating opportunities for safe, strategic and science-backed prenatal offerings within clubs.

You might know her as Ivy Forrester on The Bold And The Beautiful, the long-running soap opera that has been broadcast around the world for nearly 40 years. That role marked Ashleigh Brewer’s breakout in the US, after she first came to notice working in Australian children’s shows like The Sleepover Club and H20: Just Add Water, before joining the cast of Neighbours at the age of 18. But as you’ll hear in this episode of the Stellar podcast, at 35, Ash has lived just as many lives as a character on a soap opera. Last December, she got married, and as she reveals for the first time in this interview, she is entering her third trimester as she prepares to welcome her first baby. All this has coincided with a time when Ash has never felt more comfortable in her own body, because as she also explains, she struggled with an eating disorder for several years. Candid, raw and reflective, Ash also opens up on how she pulled together her low-key, no-fuss wedding day in just nine days, why sobriety was a key part of her recovery, and how how finding support from a strong circle of fellow Aussie expats and actors including Phoebe Tonkin, Samara Weaving and her one-time housemate and Neighbours co-star Margot Robbie helped her to heal. If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, visit Butterfly at butterfly.org.au You can find out more about Ash Brewer on Instagram here. Today's episode is a special one. I got to sit down in person with Tristin Colley, formerly known as Tristin Van Ord, for a conversation that felt personal, honest, and really meaningful. Tristin is a professional marathoner, a two-time Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier, and currently pregnant with her first child, a baby girl due this April. She made her marathon debut in 2019 running 2:40 and has steadily worked her way down to a 2:25 personal best, a testament to her patience, belief, and long-term commitment to the sport. In this episode, Tristin and I talk about the many transitions she is navigating right now. From stepping away from the ZAP Endurance program following its recent closure, to moving with her husband Andrew to Raleigh, to entering motherhood while still holding big goals as a professional runner. She shares what this waiting season has looked like, emotionally and practically, as she explores sponsorship opportunities and imagines her return to racing post-baby. We also talk about the USATF Foundation Maternity Grant, which Tristin was awarded, and what it means to feel supported during pregnancy while continuing to identify as a professional athlete with unfinished business. One of the most fun parts of this episode is that Tristin received surprise messages of encouragement from Sara Vaughn, Kara Goucher, and Stephanie Bruce. These moments add so much heart to the conversation and reflect the deep support within the women's running community. I'm cheering so hard for Tristin, and truly believe that any brand would be lucky to have her on their team. Topics We Cover Tristin's progression from a 2:40 marathon debut to a 2:25 personal best Training adjustments and mindset shifts during pregnancy Navigating uncertainty after the closure of ZAP Endurance What it means to stay committed to elite running while becoming a parent The USATF Foundation Maternity Grant and why it matters Postpartum racing goals and long-term belief in development The emotional side of waiting seasons in professional sport Community support and encouragement from fellow elite runners Recording in person and how that changes the conversation Media & Mentions Support our Sponsors: Geist Half Race Series Go to geisthalf.com and use the code “Another26” for $10 off any race distances. Today Ron discusses the recent government shutdown avoidance, highlighting the passage of five separate bills, including a bipartisan vote that excluded the Save Act requiring photo ID for voting. The bill also includes $8.4 billion more than Trump's request, cuts $10 billion in wasteful foreign aid, and ends taxpayer subsidies for woke media. Ron's conversation also touches on the Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act, which passed with only one Democrat voting in favor, and the ongoing immigration enforcement efforts, emphasizing the need for cooperation from local law enforcement. Ron gives his opinion on Sen. Bernie Sanders' proposal to cap credit card interest at 10%.
