Hear all that Haley had to say about this Steelers offense including what position group he sees being "sloppy" right now.
This week Melissa welcomes Charlotte Observer sports columnist and the reporter/host behind "Carruth," Scott Fowler. Fowler details the magnificent reporting that became a seven-part serialized podcast about one of the most disturbing criminals in sports history, Rae Carruth. (Quick primer for those unaware: Carruth, a former no. 1 overall pick for the Panthers, hired a hitman to murder his pregnant girlfriend because he didn't want to pay child support.) The child survived, albeit with severe brain damage due to being delivered 10 weeks early and because of complications after his mother was shot. The mother did not survive. Fowler explains how "Carruth" is much more than a chilling murder; it's also a story of love and inspirational determination. Before Fowler joins, Melissa discusses the Browns long awaited firing of Hue Jackson, and the more intriguing ousting of hated OC Todd Haley. She also rails on the Browns and the NFL allowing Gregg "Kill the Head" Williams to become a head coach, even if interim. The Timeline: 4:50: Melissa details why Hue Jackson and Todd Haley were canned 7:00: On Gregg Williams, the worst possible interim head coach 10:24: CHARLOTTE OBSERVER COLUMNIST AND “CARRUTH” HOST + REPORTER SCOTT FOWLER JOINS 11:15: Fowler on why he decided to turn the Carruth case into a narrative podcast 17:00: Why Panthers teammates were initially in disbelief over 19:30: Fowler on the importance of telling Cherica's story beyond being a victim 21:30: Fowler on visiting the hitman in prison 28:43: Fowler on just how instrumental Saundra Adams (Cherica's mother) is to the story 31:24: Fowler on how Saundra is able to forgive Rae and the shooter 34:45: Fowler explains why Saundra and Chancellor Lee (Rae's son) were not on site when Rae was released after they had planned to attend 41:34: How Fowler's relationship with Saundra and Chancellor Lee has changed his life 43:25: Fowler on how the Panthers welcoming Saundra and Chancellor Lee to a game was a looong time coming. 49:22: Melissa hands out this week's Do-Gooder Award to multiple players Listen to “Carruth”: https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/article219407970.html Follow Scott on Twitter: https://twitter.com/scott_fowler Follow Melissa on Twitter: https://twitter.com/thefootballgirl Please consider subscribing and leaving us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts.
Dane Martinez and Scott Engel open the show looking at the Patriots ugly victory over the Bills, where we saw New England dress only 2 running backs, and Buffalo trying everything, including the kitchen sink, to win this game. The guys go on to talk about the Browns firing HC Hue Jackson and OC Todd Haley, with Scott thinking it will be interesting to see who Cleveland goes after to get this Baker Mayfield-led offense up and running. The news of Ryan Fitzpatrick being given back the starting QB job in Tampa Bay has Dane happy that the gun-slinger is back under center, and Scott says Fitzpatrick is only fantasy relevant depending on who your other quarterback may be. Six teams go on BYE for Week 9, and the guys try to help out people who may be walking in to a BYE WEEK HELL situation. #FNTSY #NFL #fantasyfootball #Week8 #MNF #Patriots #Bills #TomBrady #JamesWhite #LeSeanMcCoy #Bucs #JameisWinston #RyanFitzpatrick #DirkKoetter #Browns #HueJackson #ToddHaley #BakerMayfield #BYEWeekHell #Week9 Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers
