Have you ever felt totally torn between two seemingly incompatible desires? Like part of you wants the freedom of non-monogamy while another part longs for that "one and only" Disney story? You're not alone, and this inner conflict isn't something to rush past—it might actually be your greatest opportunity for growth. In this episode, we're exploring the Jungian concept of "the tension of opposites" and how it applies to non-monogamy. Rather than seeing these inner conflicts as problems to solve, we explore how bearing this tension can lead to unexpected breakthroughs and deeper self-understanding. This isn't just theoretical—we share practical, creative ways to work with these tensions that go beyond simply "sitting with" uncomfortable feelings. We're breaking down:— What the "tension of opposites" means and why it's particularly relevant during the paradigm shift to non-monogamy— Why rushing to resolve inner conflicts can actually prevent deeper transformation from occurring— The physical sensations that often accompany inner conflict— How bearing the tension of opposites creates space for the "transcendent function"—a third option we couldn't previously imagine— Why paradigm shifts take years and require us to be comfortable in the "gooey" transformational phase— Creative practices for working with opposing forces— How to ask partners and friends to witness your process without trying to "fix" your conflicts— The value of paying attention to dreams and symbols that emerge during periods of inner tension— Finding balance between bearing tension and making necessary decisions when the time comesResources mentioned in this episode:— Jung's Collected Works, Volume 13— Marie-Louise von Franz's Archetypal Dimensions of the PsycheJOIN The Year Of Opening® community for a full year of learning & support.

S10 Ep4 CS80 VINTAGE: mother-daughter team Monica and Scotti - on recirculating the largest known collection of true 1980s deadstock sportswear including 10,000 pairs of sneakers.

Today, we're chatting with Monica and Scotti, a mother-daughter team behind CS80 Vintage who are rediscovering the 80s in a way neither of them expected.  Monica, who once worked in sporting goods and later built a career in photography and organizing – helping people deal with large-scale hoards and inventories, stumbled into a massive vintage collection during the pandemic. When the original owner, Franz, passed after years of illness, the inventory — tucked into basements, an attic, gazebos, and storage pods — just sat. Nobody knew what to do with it. Her daughter, Scotti, now 23, grew up thrifting and has always loved vintage – now she's helping mom preserve an incredible archive of true 1980s deadstock sportswear.  Neither Monica or Scotti set out to be vintage dealers. They've learned from conversations with experts and mentors and midnight eBay searches, like we all do.  They have uncovered what turns out to be — by the account of multiple experts — one of the largest deadstock vintage sportswear collections ever found: 10,000 pairs of sneakers, thousands of hats, blanks, jerseys, satin jackets, and more. Every single piece true deadstock, never worn, straight from the warehouse. On today's show, they'll share how they did it. All the sales strategies, collaborations and pop-ups. Scotty came home, built a website from scratch, launched their Instagram in December, and within two weeks had gained 28,000 followers. How their drops sell out reaching collectors from Paris to Japan.  A pair of boxing shoes sold to a film produced by Sylvester Stallone. Their clothes filled the set of a Target x Stranger Things commercial. But more than any of that, this is a story about honoring Franz's life work, about a mother and daughter collaboration, and about what it means to be the unexpected stewards of something rare. It's a really really good one — let's dive in.   DISCUSSED IN THE EPISODE: [5:57] How Monica and Scotti came into the largest deadstock vintage sportswear collections known to exist. [12:21] How they started to discover the value of this collection. [14:14] A mentor warned Monica she could "destroy the vintage market" — and the responsibility to sell slowly. [15:12] Their first major sale was a buyer from Japan at the Alameda Flea Market — the moment Monica and her husband realized what they really had. [19:00] Scotti came home, launched a website for CS80 and started Instagram sales. [21:49] How pricing works differently depending on geography, buyer, and context — and why the story behind CS80 commands higher prices than comparable pieces.

MDO: It's a terrible concept

A new book edited by Amos Fox and Franz Stefan Gady picks apart the concept of Multi Domain Operations in forensic detail. A collection of world class scholars and practitioners demystify the idea of MDO and airs just some of the key problems that lie within the 'Big Hand, Small Map' approach to military operations. From a lack of a theory of success, a failure to address tactical concerns, an agnostic view of adversaries, and some deep philosophical flaws, one wonders why Western leaders continue to be so besotted with MDO as a way of fighting. According to Amos and Franz: it just wont work.

On February 5, 1976, Franz Klammer delivered one of the most electrifying performances in Winter Olympic history, charging down the Patscherkofel course in Innsbruck to win gold in the men's downhill. The 22-year-old Austrian was already a World Cup star, but the pressure on him that day was immense. Austria was hosting the Games, the nation expected victory in its signature alpine event, and Klammer had struggled in training runs. Wearing bib No. 15, he attacked the mountain with breathtaking aggression—arms flailing, skis rattling, barely holding the racing line—yet somehow stayed upright. When he crossed the finish line and saw he had taken the lead, the eruption from the home crowd was as dramatic as the run itself. Now, 50 years later to the day, Klammer joins the guys on the Past Our Prime podcast to talk about that life changing 1 :45.73 down the icy mountain and how for Austria, Klammer's victory was far more than just a gold medal. Alpine skiing is woven into the country's cultural identity; its champions are national heroes, symbols of resilience and pride in a small alpine nation that measures itself against the world on snow. Hosting the Olympics magnified that pride—and the anxiety. A loss in the marquee downhill could have felt like a national disappointment. Instead, Klammer's daring descent became a unifying moment, a release of collective tension and a reaffirmation of Austrian excellence in the mountains that define the country. His win gave the home Games their emotional centerpiece and remains one of the most cherished moments in Austrian sports history. That significance was captured internationally when Klammer appeared on the cover of the February 16, 1976 issue of Sports Illustrated. The cover cemented his run not just as a national triumph, but as a global sporting spectacle—an image of fearless commitment under overwhelming pressure. On POP, Klammer recalls how going last down the mountain was torturous waiting his turn. He knew he had the weight of his country on his shoulders and attacked the mountain knowing that his rival and now good friend Bernhard Russi had just set a record time coming down the hill. Now it was his turn. He tells us he was going to do one of two things... crash or win. He won. One of the greatest skiers ever... Franz Klammer on the Past Our Prime podcast. In Multidomain Operations: The Pursuit of Battlefield Dominance in the 21st Century (Howgate Publishing Limited, 2026), Amos Fox and Franz-Stefan Gady challenge one of modern war's most influential doctrines: MDO. Is it the right framework for 21st-century conflict—or a concept rushed into service without sufficient grounding? Through the lenses of origin, field application, academic critique, and international perspectives, the authors examine MDO's theoretical and practical shortcomings. They argue that MDO is a solution in search of a problem—strategically narrow, tactically vague, and ill-suited for America's allies. This book calls for a doctrinal reset: one that addresses precision strike overreach, rising attrition warfare, and the enduring need for land forces. With rigorous policy and PME recommendations, Fox and Gady offer a vital roadmap for rethinking military doctrine. Essential reading for defense leaders, scholars, and warfighters alike, this book reshapes how we must think about future battlefields.Dr. Amos C. Doug Stuart interviews Caleb Franz, author of The Conductor: The Story of Reverend John Rankin, Abolitionism's Essential Founding Father. Franz shares the fascinating story of how he discovered and researched this largely forgotten figure from his hometown of Ironton, Ohio. The conversation explores Rankin's pivotal role in the abolition movement, particularly in the Ohio River Valley—a region often overlooked in abolitionist history that typically centers on New England.Franz discusses Rankin's theological arguments against slavery, his work on the Underground Railroad helping thousands of enslaved people escape to freedom, and his profound influence on key historical figures including Harriet Beecher Stowe (whose "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was inspired by Rankin's letters) and Ulysses S. Grant (who studied under Rankin before attending West Point). The episode delves into the research process behind writing historical biography, the intersection of faith and liberty in the abolition movement, and how Rankin's Christian convictions drove his radical opposition to slavery from the 1820s through the Civil War era.Audio Production by Podsworth Media - https://podsworth.com Use code LCI50 for 50% off your first order at Podsworth.com to clean up your voice recordings and also support LCI!Full Podsworth Ad Read BEFORE & AFTER processing:https://youtu.be/vbsOEODpQGs  ★ Support this podcast ★
