Gentleness is the mark of a life: strengthened by God's training, governed by discipline, and in submission to His authority. Jesus, the King of Kings, described Himself as gentle and humble in heart. If the all-powerful Son of God chose to display His strength through gentleness, how much more should we?
Welcome back to The Follow Up, where we recap this week's sermon so you can grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus! This week, join Jack Guerra, Adam Jackson and Carrie Vajko as we continue our study of Romans, diving into chapter 6 verses 1 through 23 and exploring what true freedom from sin means. It's not about abusing God's grace and continuing to indulge in the vices of the world. It's about shedding the old self and accepting God's gift of redemption and salvation, true freedom from the chains of sin. Freedom is not continuing in sin and frequently repenting; it's not being held hostage by sin because God offers a better life in Him!Subscribe for more in-depth discussions and weekly updates on our biblical seriesFind Study Guides at springlakechurch.org/study-guides Connect with us!springlakechurch.org/getconnectedspringlakechurch.orgNeed Prayer? Come Follow Me: Mental Health Insights with Dr. David T. Morgan
This week we are studying Doctrine and Covenants section 18. We'll talk about the counsel given to Oliver Cowdery that he needed to rely on the things he knew to be true, as he went forward to establish the Lord's church. We'll discuss this same concept in our own lives, and how sometimes we do not act on the things we know to be true, because of fear and anxiety. We'll review ways we can overcome the anxiety associated with change, in addition to the promises the Lord has extended to those who will go forward in faith. There are free worksheets available for the invitations made in the weekly podcasts. To get these worksheets, please sign up for my email newsletter. Not only will you get access to the free worksheets, but access to many more free strategies to help manage your mental health. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter Matt Parrino to go over their biggest Week Nine takeaways following the Buffalo Bills exciting victory over Miami on Sunday in addition to a conversation about athlete parenting and more. It certainly wasn't easy facing a Dolphins team that knew any slim chance they had of getting back into the AFC east race hinged on them upsetting the Bills in Orchard Park. In the end though, Tyler Bass set a franchise-record with a 61 yard game-winning field goal and the Bills not only improved to 7-2 but put themselves where they'd need a total face plant to not win their fifth consecutive AFC east crown. Matt's as entrenched with covering the team full time and has thoughts on many of Patrick's biggest takeaways from this week, including the wild (wild!) ride Tyler Bass went on, Sean McDermott showing confidence in a spot other coaches probably wouldn't have, Josh Allen staying patience paying off, a tip of the cap to Mack Hollins and focusing on a defense that other than a singular Taron Johnson effort got largely dismantled by the Miami offense. In particular Patrick thought the defensive tackle play led by Ed Oliver was extremely lousy. Does Matt agree? The guys also have a discussion about how protective parents of athletes can be and sometimes go a little overboard. Patrick feels that's the case recently after a social media incident involving him and Damar Hamlin's father. Matt shares his thoughts and the guys talk about relating to the parent in most cases. That and plenty more! You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattParrino and of course be sure to check out his work at NYup.com as well as subscribe to the Shout Buffalo Football Podcast. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods recap the week nine games in the Big Ten, which featured three top ten teams in action, and two of them receiving scares from their opponents. On Friday, Rutgers went to Los Angeles to take on USC, and it was all Trojans, with the game eventually ending in a comfortable blowout. Saturday, No. 3 Penn State and No. 4 Ohio State each received scares from Wisconsin and Nebraska respectively before ultimately prevailing. No. 20 Illinois proved to be no match for No. 1 Oregon, while Northwestern struggled to do much of anything against Iowa. Minnesota crushed Maryland, while Michigan proved to be a little too much for Jonathan Smith and the Spartans in year one. As always, the killer Cignetti continued to roll with a convincing win over Washington at home. As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat.
